Phyllis E. Barger

Phyllis Eleanor Barger, 94, died Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Ozark Nursing Home in Ozark, Arkansas.

She was born in San Simone, Arizona on June 14, 1914, to the late David Wesley and Nellie Pick Stouffer. She lived most of her adult life in Knoxville, Arkansas and was a member of the Knoxville Baptist Church.

Phyllis leaves behind one sister-in-law, Lena Stouffer of North Little Rock, Arkansas; five nieces, Emma Ruth Boyle of Litchfield Park, Arizona, Donna Anderson of Sherwood, Arkansas, Deborah Thomason of North Little Rock, Arkansas, Marcie Stouffer of California, and Karen Williams of Ada, Oklahoma; seven nephews, Doug and Michael Williams of Fort Smith, Arkansas, James Wesley Stouffer of Oregon City, Ore., Carlton Lee Stouffer of Phoenix, Arizona, Joe Stouffer of Butler, Missouri, David Stouffer of Rogers, Arkansas, and Aaron Stouffer of St. Louis, Missouri. She also leaves behind good friends, Lori White and Pat and David Troglin of Ozark, Arkansas.

Phyllis is preceded in her death by her husband, Howard Barger, and her long time friend, Ira Clubb; and two brothers, Wilbert and Conrad Stouffer.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6-7 p.m. Monday, November 17, 2008. The funeral service was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at the Knoxville Baptist Church in Knoxville, Arkansas, with Brother Richard Snyder and Brother Ira Taylor officiating. Burial followed in the West Mount Zion cemetery in Hartman, Arkansas.

Pallbearers were David Troglin, Douglas Williams, Allen Brown, Rodney Selby, Kerry Nordin and Jim Murdock.

Honorary pallbearers were members of her Sunday School Class.

Memorials can be made to the First Baptist Church of Knoxville, the Lamar cemetery, Lamar, Arkansas, or West Mount Zion cemetery c/o Hays Chapel Methodist Church.

All arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home of Clarksville (479) 754-2201.

Fern Fordahl

Fern L. Fordahl, 97, of Bismarck, mother of Lois Roden of Knoxville, passed away peacefully Oct. 26, 2008. In her final days, she was able to have many grandchildren and great-grandchildren spend time with her. They all talked to her about the annual lefse party and they think she kindly waited until they had finished. Services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 30, at the Baptist Home, Bismarck, with the Rev. Clyde Leimberer officiating. Burial was in the Concordia cemetery, Crosby.

Visitation was held from 2 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck, and continued one hour prior to the service at the Baptist Home.

Fern was born March 19, 1911, in Divide County, the daughter of Henry and Annie (Olson) Lohse. On Jan. 17, 1928, she married Oliver Fordahl, and they had 13 children. Oliver died in 1953, and she was left to raise the last eight children. In June of 1988, she moved to Bismarck, entering the Baptist Home in February 2000.

As a child, she loved being outdoors, tending to the animals and doing field work. As a homemaker, gardening was one of her favorite activities, and canning seemed never-ending; everyone loved her cooking. Embroidering was her favorite hobby and most of her family has at least one memento. For years, her home was the place to be on Saturday afternoons to visit the "out of towner" relatives.

Fern was able to be out and about all those years until August of this year. She was able to travel for some time, and visited all of her children and got to know the extended family. She could recall all the animals encountered on those trips.

Fern can claim 13 children, 37 grandchildren, 77 great-grandchildren, and 17 great-great-grandchildren, with the newest one being born just three days before her passing.

She is survived by her daughters, Olive (John) Patton, Union City, Calif., Florence (Richard) Gumke, Sultan, Wash., Jeanette Hansen, Crosby, Emily (Milbert) Boschee, Bismarck, Lois Roden, Knoxville, Ark., Juanita Wilhelmi, Silver Springs, Nev., and Patricia Fordahl, Minot; her sons, Robert Fordahl, Hayward, Calif., and Lowell Fordahl, Everett, Wash., and her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two daughters, Carmen and Eileene; two sons, Leroy and Clifford; two granddaughters; one grandson; her husband; her parents; one brother; and three sisters.

She will be dearly missed by all.

Bertha E. Reynolds

Bertha Edgmon Reynolds, 82, of Ozone died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2008, at Baptist Hospital in Little Rock.

She was a native of Mossville, widow of Vearl Reynolds; and was preceded in death by six children; two brothers; and three sisters.

Survivors include two daughters, Willma Vaughn of Clarksville and Marcia Stanley of Ozone; two sons, Dennis Reynolds and wife, Mary, of Ward and Tim Reynolds and wife, Joy, of Hagarville; four sisters, Cleo Lager of Jasper, Louise Grubb of Springdale, Bonnie Regier of Rogers and Ruby Holland of Tulsa, Okla.; three brothers, J. E. Edgmon, Ward Edgmon and Lawton Edgmon, all of Jasper; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 11, at Mossville Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Wood officiating.

Burial was in Mossville cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Darin Vaughn, Daryl Vaughn, Brian Vaughn, Barry Vaughn, Matthew Reynolds, Jacob Reynolds, Danny Hefley, and Travis Gregory.

Honorary pallbearers were Jerry Liggett, Spanky Woods, David Edgmon, Ricky Reynolds, Terry Edgmon, Randall Edgmon, Pete Lager, and Robert Huber.

George Spencer

George Spencer, 88, of Lamar died Wednesday, Nov. 5, 2008, at UAMS Hospital in Little Rock.

He was a native of Meadow Lands, Pa., son of the late George Pierce and Mary Louise Ferrina Spencer, Air Force veteran of World War II and the Korean War, retired Delta Airline employee, member of First United Methodist Church, VFW, American Legion Bunch Walton Post No. 22, and Rogers Rye VFW Post at Russellville, past state president of Improved Order Red Men in California, past commander of American Legion in California, past president of United Auto Workers Union, shop steward for Teamsters Union for 15 years, and past president and 24 year member of Johnson Regional Medical Center Auxiliary.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Jacobs Spencer; one sister, Mildred Hageter of Meadow Lands, Pa.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Private burial was at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, at Oakland cemetery. A memorial service followed at 2 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with Rev. David Hanshaw officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

James E. Yantis

James Edgar Yantis died Saturday, Nov. 8, 2008.

He served in the Air Force for three and one-half years and was stationed in Germany part of that time, prior to being employed at Marshalltown (Iowa) Instruments for 22 years, Fiberite in Greenville, Texas, for 11 years, security guard at Sara Lee for several years and most recently bus driver for Forrester-Davis Development Center in Clarksville.

He was a son of the late Fred Erving and Ola Fay Rummerfield Yantis and was preceded in death by three sisters, Fern Mathew, Lela Bacon and Bonnie Bell Yantis; and five brothers, Dean, Roscoe, Sam, Lindsey and Bob Yantis.

Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Frances Hall Yantis; two children and spouses, Bev and Randy Garmon of Westminster, Colo., and Brad and Edianna Yantis of Olathe, Kan.; four grandchildren, Charla Garmon (Boe Benefield) of Boise, Idaho, Jamey Garmon of Westminster, Colo., and Micah and Brady Yantis of Olathe, Kan.; three brothers, Leo, Melvin and Fred Yantis Jr.; one sister, Nellie Brumbaugh; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home in Marshalltown, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens.

Jeffrey Eric Levin

Jeffrey Eric Levin, 60, of Oark, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at home.

He was a retired attorney, who also devoted his years to organic gardening, his farm and family. He had a passion for the study of history, for baseball, and fly-fishing.

Born in Brooklyn, New York on May 27, 1948, Mr. Levin graduated with a degree in business from Syracuse University in 1970. He then received a Juris Doctor from American University in Washington, D. C.

He served as a Vista volunteer in Silver City, N. M., and practiced law with Northern New Mexico Legal Services in Taos.

After moving to Arkansas in 1976, Mr. Levin practiced law at Northwest Arkansas Legal Services in Fayetteville, and served as the legal counsel for the Arkansas State Energy Office under the Clinton administration in Little Rock from 1980-1983.

Upon moving to Johnson County, Mr. Levin practiced law in Clarksville from 1985 until his retirement in 1995.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Levin and Sherry Sagman Levin. His survivors include his wife, Susan Gateley Levin of Oark, Arkansas; daughter, Jenny Levin of Oark, Arkansas; two sons, Benjamin Levin and Gabriel Levin, both of Oark, Arkansas; one brother, Michael Levin and wife, Debbie, of New York; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held at 10 a.m. Monday, November, 10, 2008, at the Raymond Munger Memorial Chapel at the University of the Ozarks, Clarksville, Arkansas. A graveside service followed at 2 p.m. at the Yale cemetery, Yale, Arkansas. Visitation was from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, November 9, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home, Clarksville, Arkansas with Rev. Marci Ward and Rev Nancy Benson-Nicol officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Nature Conservancy or the Clarksville Boys Club.

Active pallbearers were Bill Higgins, Larry Driver, Doug Strubel, Wade Gateley, David Gateley, and Paul Gateley. Honorary pallbearers were Benjamin Levin, Gabriel Levin, Michael Levin, Larry Taub, Steve Driver, and Jesse Martinez.

Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home, Clarksville, Arkansas.
