Mary E. Myers

Mary Elizabeth Myers, 91, of Little Rock, died Sunday.

She lived in Lawrence County for 64 years, where she was a member of the Black Rock United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She taught school at Strawberry before moving to Walnut Ridge in the early 1930s where she worked at First National Bank for 14 years. She served as treasurer of the Oak Forest cemetery Association, and was a member of the Board of Directors of First National Bank of Lawrence County. In 1976, she moved to Clinton with her sister Jennie Sue, where she was a member of Clinton United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women, Unit III.

She is survived by one brother, Richard Spades of Cabot; and two sisters, Rowena Lawson of Fairfield Bay and Kathryn Callahan of Pocahontas.
Funeral services were held at House-Gregg Funeral Home in Walnut Ridge on Tuesday with burial at Oak Forest cemetery at Black Rock.

William Oscar Gray

William Oscar Gray, 69, of De Valls Bluff, died Sunday, August 8, 2004.

He was the former mayor of DeValls Bluff and a retired school administrator.
He is survived by his wife, Thelma Shaw Gray; one daughter, Cheryl Wall of Alexander; one son, John Gray of West Helena; three granddaughters; seven step- grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; one sister, Elsie Hall of Ames, Iowa; one brother, Leroy Gray of North Little Rock.

Funeral services were Aug. 11, at the First Assembly of God Church in Biscoe. Burial was in Oakland cemetery in DeValls Bluff. Westbrook Funeral Home in Hazen was in charge.

Memorials may be made to the Leukemia Society or the charity of your choice.

Winnie M. McLeod

Winnie Marie McLeod, of Sherwood, died Aug. 4, 2004.

She is survived by one son, Walter McLeod, North Little Rock; four daughters, Juanita Crouse, Sherwood, Darelyne Money of Cabot, Veda Rogers Statesville, N.C., Glenna Ivie, Riverdale, Utah; one brother, Jack McLeod Pangburn; 22 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren ; 14 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral service was Aug. 7, 2004 at North Hills Baptist Church in Sherwood. Interment was in Fairview cemetery in Cave City. Roller-Owens Funeral Home was in charge.

Charles Brewer Jr.

Dr. Charles Dwight Brewer Jr., 52, of Carlisle, died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 2004.

Dr. Brewer was born June 23, 1952, in Little Rock, Ark., a son of Billie Jeane Lisenby Brewer Dougherty and Charles Dwight Brewer, Sr. He was a very loving husband, father, son and brother. He received bachelor’s degrees in pharmacy and psychology and a doctorate degree in pharmacy from the University of Arkansas. He was employed as Director of Pharmacy at Beaufort Memorial Hospital prior to becoming director of the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit at the University of Arkansas. He was a member of Carlisle Methodist Church, a scout leader and volunteer fireman in Carlisle.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Renee Hadwin Brewer; one son, Charles Dwight Brewer III and a daughter, Natasha Marcyann Brewer, all of the home; his mother of Cabot; two brothers, Joseph Miller Brewer of Jacksonville and Robert Michael Brewer of Cabot; and his father and mother-in-law, George and Delores Hadwin of Hardeeville, S.C.

Funeral Services were Monday at Carlisle United Methodist Church, with Carlisle Fire Department serving as pallbearers. Burial was in Hamilton cemetery. Arrangements by Boyd Funeral Home, Lonoke.

Donations may be made to Carlisle United Methodist Church, Hamilton cemetery Fund or Boy Scouts of America, Quapaw Area Council.

Ollie Green Smith

Ollie Green Smith, 86, of Camden died Aug. 6, 2004.

She spent the majority of her life in Lonoke with her husband, John DeWitt Smith, who preceded her in death.

She is survived by four adopted children, Tom Smith of Coushatta, La., Lynn Smith of Houston, Texas, Joyce Smith of Newport, Ore., and Sharon Cornelius of Houston, Texas; one brother, Ralph Green of Hot Springs Village; three sisters, Vivian Watkins of Camden, Margaret Purvis of Des Arc, and Shirley Sullivan of Texarkana; and four grandchildren.

Funeral was Aug. 8 at Garth Funeral Home Chapel in Des Arc, with burial in Sand Hill cemetery in Des Arc.

Charlene T. Howell

Charlene Townsend Howell, 79, of Raleigh, N.C., died Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004.
She and her husband worked in the family business, Howell Drug Store. She retired to Hot Springs, where she was an employee at Quiltland Shop, was a volunteer at Mid-America Museum, and was a member of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Debi Howell Schwarz, Michelle Howell Coffey, both of N. C.; her son, Jeff Howell of Fla.; her brother, Rodney Townsend of Lonoke; and her sister, Mae Spiller of Hot Springs; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family requests that donations be made in her memory to your local hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Lester L. Fulmer

Lester L. Fulmer, 81, of Vidor, Texas died Aug. 3, 2004.

He was a native of Cabot, a member of the 14th Air Force Flying Tigers from 1942-45 and a member of the Bridge City Masonic Lodge #1345. He was a member of Pecan Acres Baptist Church in Vidor. He retired in 1983 as a maintenance supervisor from P.P.G.

He is survived by his wife, Freida Leola Fulmer of Vidor; a son, Steven Fulmer of Vidor; daughters, Nancy Eberhardt of Beaumont, Texas and Barbara Kelson of Crystal Beach; sister, Peggy Roach of Cabot; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral was Aug. 5 at Forest Lawn Funeral Chapel with interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 3195 Calder, Beaumont, Texas 77702.

E. H. ‘Pap’ Mathers

E. H. ‘’Pap’’ Mathers, age 68, of Butlerville, died Sunday, Nov. 9, 2003. He was an auto mechanic. He was a Baptist.

Surviving are his brother, Harvey Mathers, and sister, Eula Mae Hatler, of Alamogordo, N.M..

Visitation was Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2003 at Westbrook Funeral Home.
Graveside service was Wednesday, at Butlerville cemetery Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe.

Briley Matthew Price

Briley Matthew Price, age 17, of Hickory Plains, died Sunday, Nov. 16, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident. He was a 10th grade student at Beebe High School and a member of Hickory Plains Missionary Baptist Church.

Matt is survived by his parents, Bobby and Paula Briley Price of Hickory Plains; one sister, Meagan Price of Hickory Plains; his half-brother, Larry and half-sister, Laura; his grandparents, Bully and Nell Price of Hickory Plains, Pat Briley of Bryant.

Visitation was Tuesday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe. Funeral was Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Hickory Plains Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Hickory Plains cemetery.

Jerry William Coburn

Jerry William Coburn, 71, died Nov. 11, 2003. Survivors include his wife Edna Coburn, 5 children: Jerry Coburn Jr., of Florida, John Henry Coburn, Patricia Ann Rice White, Mary Jane Maronay and Danny Ray Coburn, all of Stuttgart, an adopted son, Lloyd Meek of North Little Rock, 14 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 2 sisters, Minnie Coburn, of North Little Rock, and Katherine Reynolds, of Jacksonville,
2 brothers, Marion Coburn of Missouri and Arthur Coburn Owens of Georgia.
Services were Friday at Concord United Methodist Church with interment at Concord cemetery, by Boyd Funeral Home of Lonoke.
