Mrs. Martha Bell

Mrs. Martha Kathren Reeder Bell, age 79, resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Thursday, December 16, 2004 in the Christus St. Michael Health System.

She was born to Claud Duvall and Annie Lee Little Reeder at Lockesburg, Arkansas, on October 17, 1925. She graduated from Lockesburg High School in 1943 as class valedictorian. She was a Lockesburg Librarian from 1986 until July of this year, and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lockesburg. She was a member of the AARP Chapter 278 and the Hospital Auxiliary, and enjoyed reading and crossword puzzles.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Eleanor Berry; and a brother, Joe D. Reeder.

She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, William C. and Mardy Bell of Raleigh, North Carolina; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and William Spring of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina; one sister, Dorothy Shinn of Lockesburg; one sister-in-law, Winnie Faye Reeder of Texarkana; three granddaughters, Sarah, Elizabeth and Kate; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mrs. Martha Bell were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 20, 2004 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Kem Reeder officiating. Burial followed in the Coulter cemetery, Lockesburg, Arkansas under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home. The family received friends at Chandler Funeral Home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 19, 2004.

Thelma Lee Stringfellow

Mrs. Thelma Lee Sage Stringfellow, age 95, resident of Horatio, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004 in Brookewood Nursing Center.

She was born May 18, 1909 at Oklaunion, Tex., to John and Nancy Alice Beard Sage; was a retired employee of the Rubber Corporation of Arkansas; a homemaker; and a member of Corinth Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Hershel Stringfellow and R.J. Stringfellow; a daughter, Nell Vonrea Barnes; a great-grandchild, Kaitlyn Philemon; and her husband, I.C. Stringfellow.

She is survived by one son, Delton Stringfellow of Horatio; two daughters, Juanita Staggs and Loretta Reid, both of Horatio; 20 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 28 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 11 am. Wednesday, Dec. 15 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.L. Walker and Rev. Ralph Staggs officiating. Burial followed in Clear Creek cemetery at Horatio.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. Dec. 14 at the funeral home.

Rolona Nell Johnson

Rolona Nell Johnson, age 30, resident of Lockesburg, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 at the home of her aunt and uncle.

She was born Sept. 7, 1993 at Lockey, Tex., to Travis Lavern and Verna Ruth Newton; was a 1993 graduate of Waco High School; a nurse’s aide; and a member of the Lewis Temple Church of God in Christ of De Queen.

She was preceded in death by her father; her grandmother, Etta Johnson; and her grandfather, Billy Joe Newton.

She is survived by her mother, Verna Ruth McElroy of Waco, Tex.; two brothers, Henry Jackson and Corey Jackson, both of Waco, Tex.; her sister, Alesha McElroy of Austin, Tex.; her grandparents, Thelma and Jesse Bouston of Lockesburg and Buddy Johnson of Lubbock, Tex.; her great-grandmother, Zeola Geiger of Wilson; one niece and one nephew.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 5 in New Zion Baptist Church of Oak Grove at Lockesburg with Elder E.A. Edwards and Pastor Rodney Briggs officiating. Burial followed in McElroy cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 4 at the funeral home.

Jutson “Jud” Flournoy Jr.

Marion Jutson “Jud” Flournoy Jr., age 78, resident of De Queen, died Saturday, Jan. 29, 2005 in Christus St. Michael Health System at Texarkana.

He was born Jan. 15, 1927 at De Queen to Marion Juston Sr. and Ola Mae Taylor Flournoy; was a retired butcher; and a member of Kern Heights Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Erma Crawford Flournoy of De Queen; two daughters, Judy Smith of De Queen and Debbie Davis of Nashville; one stepdaughter, Gloria Pressley of Omaha, Neb.; one stepson, Major General Rodney Pressley of Scott Air Force Base, Ill.; one sister, Edlene Lovell of De Queen; eight grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 1 in Mt. Ida cemetery with Rev. Rusty Ross officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Omagene King

Omagene King, age 86, resident of Texarkana, Tex., died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 in Shreveport, La.

He was born Dec. 14, 1917 in De Queen; was a retired cattleman and truck driver; a member of the Baptist Church; and a U.S. Air Force veteran having served in World War II. He was preceded in death by his parents, Will and Ola Nalley King; and two sisters, Madeline Keller and Alma Schult.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Shirley King of Texarkana, Tex.; two daughters, Linda Rankin and Carolyn Faoliu, both of Texarkana, Tex.; a sister, Altha King Gray of Sugarland, Tex.; five grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with military rites were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 15 in Hillcrest Memorial Park with Rev. Nelson Cheney officiating, under the direction of Texarkana Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5501 Plaza Dr., Texarkana, Tex. 75503.

The family will be at 1726 Meadowbrook Lane in Texarkana.

Vida Velera Crisp

Vida Velera Hobbs Crisp, age 82, resident of Dierks, died Friday, Dec. 10, 2004 in Howard Memorial Hospital at Nashville.

She was born Oct. 29, 1922 in De Queen to Ivan Lester Hobbs and Georgia Ann Farley Hobbs; was a retired seamstress; an Avon representative; and a member of Dierks First Baptist Church.

She is survived by a son, Steve Kesterson of Murfreesboro; a daughter, Theresa Chaney of Pensacola, Fla.; five grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 12 in First Baptist Church in Dierks with Rev. Larry Hobbs officiating. Burial followed in Sunshine cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of Dierks.

Robert Stanley "Bob" Harris

Mr. Robert Stanley "Bob" Harris, age 81, resident of De Queen, died Friday, December 10, 2004 in the Christus St. Michael Health System, Texarkana, Texas.

He was born at Coal Hill, Arkansas, on September 2, 1923. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the US Air Force as a tail gunner on a B-29. He graduated from the University of the Ozarks in the Spring of 1949, with a Pharmacy Degree. He was retired owner of Harris Drug Store, and was a member of the De Queen Church of Christ. He was a member of the Pharmacist Association, a 32 Degree Mason with the Masonic Lodge # 461, former member of the De Queen Rotary Club and the De Queen Lions Club. He served on the Planning Commission, and organized the Local Diabetes Association. He helped to organize and was a founder of the First State Bank of De Queen, where he served on the Board of Directors.

He is survived by his wife, Sybil Holley Harris of De Queen; one daughter, Carolyn Whitten of Hot Springs, Arkansas; one stepdaughter, Lana Autrey of Little Rock, Arkansas; three stepsons, David Helms, Gary Helms and Rickey Helms, all of Tyler, Texas; two granddaughters, Kelly Trimble of Hot Springs and Dede Bell of Little Rock, Arkansas; one great-granddaughter, Kelsey Bell of Little Rock, Arkansas; four step-grandchildren, Mathew, Regina, Adam, and Ryan, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Bob Harris were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 14, 2004, in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Van LedBetter and Paul Hillier, ministers of the Church of Christ, officiating. Burial followed in Redmen cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family received friends at the funeral home from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Monday evening, December 13, 2004. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

James Tate Regnier

James Tate Regnier, 78, a lifelong resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2005 at his home. He was born on March 22, 1926. He was retired as a manager from Southern LP Gas. He was a veteran of World War II and served his community in many capacities including city council, mayor, and the school board. He was a member of Horatio United Methodist Church. He will always be remembered for his love of crappie fishing, quail hunting, gardening with Bernice, and for the ever-present cup of coffee in his hand.

Survivors include his wife of almost 61 years, Bernice Bayless Regnier, a brother, Ireland Regnier and wife Linda of Clemson, South Carolina; a son, James C. and wife Madge of Waldron, Arkansas; a daughter, Elaine and husband Daryl Gibson of Cypress, Texas; a grandson, Dylan Lewis of Austin, Texas; a granddaughter, Elizabeth and husband Darren Senior of The Woodlands, Texas; a grandson, Lucas Regnier and wife Anna of New Orleans, Louisiana; a granddaughter, Courtney and husband Roy Mettlen of Lufkin, Texas; and four great-grandchildren.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, February 5 at Horatio United Methodist Church with Rev. Fred Smith officiating. Burial was at Horatio cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Horatio United Methodist Church.

Gloria L. Barnes

Gloria L. Barnes, age 76, resident of Warrenton, died Wednesday, Dec. 8, 2004 in Warrenton.

She was born May 3, 1928 at Gillham to John T. and Mamie E. Weiss Barnes; worked in the Warrenton banking and fishing industries; was a member of Logan Road Chapel for over 40 years; and a member of the Order of the Easter Star.

A viewing was held Sunday, Dec. 12 from 12-5 p.m. at Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, Astoria. Private internment was held.
