Grace Latimer Bell

Grace Latimer Bell, 89, of Hot Springs, formerly of Hope, died Thursday, September 15, 2005 in her daughter's home surrounded by family.

Born in Sevier County August 3, 1916, to Willie James and Mary Elizabeth (Betty) Latimer, she was a Methodist. She was predeceased by her husband, Joe Greer Bell; her parents; two sisters, Avis Graves and Doris Carver; and one brother, Edward Harris Latimer.

Kay Provus and Stan of Hot Springs, and Georgia Bell of North Little Rock; two sisters, Willie Jim Millwee of De Queen, and Elizabeth Bartee of Bellingham, Wash.; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

She was a devoted wife nursing her husband at their home in Hope after a stroke. She was a devoted mother who dearly loved her four children. She spent many hours sewing custom clothes for all her family and taught neighbors the craft. She enjoyed travel and would be too excited to sleep the night before departure. Her eye for a bargain was exceptional, and her ability to store her good buys proved her innate engineering aptitude.

Many will remember her for sewing advice given while selling fabric at TG&Y; and Wal-Mart in Hope for 15 years. She taught Sunday School to four-year-olds at Hope First United Methodist Church for many years and was President of her UMY group. Friends said she was a good listener, and gave comfort to others by her attentiveness. Neighbors loved to hear her whistle while she hung laundry on the line.

The service was Saturday, September 17, 2005 at 2:00 p.m., in the Belleville Methodist Church near Lockesburg with Rev. David Wilson officiating. Burial followed in the Belleville cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
