Billie V. Swan

Billie V. Swan, age 69, resident of Delta, Colo., died Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2001 in Delta County Memorial Hospital.

Graveside services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 in Mesa View cemetery in Delta with Pastor James Conley officiating, under the direction of Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory.

She was born Aug. 6, 1932 in Mineral Springs to the late Sam and Grace Corbel Cowling; spent her childhood and attended school in De Queen; and was a member of First Baptist Church in Delta. She was predeceased by her parents; and eight brothers and sisters.

She is survived by her husband, Orvel Swan of Delta, Colo.; three daughters, Dottie Kramer and Cindy Messano, both of Delta, Colo., and Becky Swan Gillette of Hawaii; four sisters, Fairy Bell Leeper, Bernice Murphy, and Shirley Green, all of De Queen, and Juanita Garvin of Spokane, Wash.; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

Gladys May Raney

Mrs. Gladys May Stowe Raney, age 71, resident of De Queen and formerly of Grannis, died Friday, Nov. 30, 2001 in Brookewood Nursing Center.

A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 4 in First Christian Church of De Queen with Rev. Jack McCullough officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of De Queen.

She was born Sept. 13, 1930 in Harrisonville, Mo., to the late Marvin lee and Kristina Marie Henriksen Stowe; was a retired cook; a former employee of Lane Poultry in Grannis; and a member of First Christian Church of De Queen. She was predeceased by her husband, Noah Raney on Jan. 4, 1996.

She is survived by two daughters, Janet Raney of De Queen and Sandra Matheson of Wheatland, Calif.; two sons, David Raney of Dexter, Mo., and Billy Raney of Humble, Tex.; one brother, John Stowe of Linn Valley Lake, Kan.; three sisters, Edith Armstrong of Milo, Mo., Helen Goff of Overland Park, Kan., and Mary McMillian of Henrietta, Mo.; 15 grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Weldon A. Lynch

Weldon A. Lynch, age 61, resident of Umpire, died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2001.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 5 in Davis-Smith Funeral Home Chapel in Glenwood with Bro. Danny White and Rev. J.B. Evans officiating. Burial followed in the Saline cemetery near Umpire.

Visitation was from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Dale Dwaine Jewell

Dale Dwaine Jewell, age 57, resident of Vandervoort, died Wednesday, Dec. 4, 2001 at his home.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 7 in United Methodist Church in Vandervoort with Bro. Donnie Jewell officiating. Burial followed in Witherspoon cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

He was born Jan. 19, 1944 in Vandervoort to the late Clyde and Delia Jackson Jewell; was a logger; and a member of United Methodist Church in Vandervoort. He was predeceased by his parents; five brothers, Thurman, Willard, Chester, Leon and Edward; and two sisters, Mary Lee and Birta Mae.

He is survived by one son, Dwaine Jewell of Vandervoort; one daughter, Dalena "Dee" Carol Sanders of De Queen; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Tressie Stacy Greene

Mrs. Tressie Stacy Manasco Greene, age 97, resident of De Queen and formerly of Dierks, died Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2001 in Brookewood Nursing Center.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 in United Methodist Church of Umpire with Rev. John Henry Williams and Rev. Don Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel cemetery at Umpire under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.

She was born Aug. 28, 1904 at Umpire to James K. Polk and Tressie "Babe" Hunter Manas-co; was a member of Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church of Dierks; and a homemaker. She was predeceased by her parents; an infant daughter; and her husband, John Amon Greene.

She is survived by one son, Gerald D. Greene of Athens; one daughter, Tressie Yvonne Willis of De Queen; one brother, Reese D. Manasco of Dierks; five grandchildren; 11 great-grand-children; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Louis "Buddy" Cowan

Louis "Buddy" Cowan, age 71, resident of Barling, died Thursday, Nov. 29, 2001 in Fort Smith.

Graveside services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1 in Grannis cemetery under the direction of Fentress Mortuary of Fort Smith.

He was a retired employee of Tyson Foods; and attended Barling Freewill Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Dimple Cowan of Barling; three daughters, Billie Jean Myers of Gillham, Mary Louise Fox of California, and Glenda Marie Rose of Barling; three sons, Henry Lewis Cowan of Cove, Ricky Joe Cowan of De Queen, and Kenneth Wayne Cowan of Fort Smith; two sisters, Faye Lull of Spokane, Wash., and Bessie Rudle of Washington; one brother, Sidney Cowan of Washington; 17 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

Kennedy Dawn Meek

Kennedy Dawn Meek, infant daughter of Clint and Angela (Minton) Meek, Lenxa, Kans. passed away Wednesday, June 11, 2003 at the Shawnee Mission Medical Center, Merriam, Kans.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m., Saturday, June 14 at the Community Christian Church, 4601 Main, Kansas City, Mo.; burial in the Resurrection cemetery, Lenexa, Kans. under the direction of the Amos Family Chapel. Visitation will be 6-8:30 p.m., Friday at the Amos Family Chapel of Lenexa, 10113 Lenexa Dr., Lenexa, Kansas. The family requests contributions to the church.

She was born April 1, 2003 at the Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She is survived by her parents and sister, Kamrei Michael, all of the home.

Paternal grandparents are Pam Smith, Lenexa, Kans. and Dwight Meek, Lake City, Fla.

Maternal grandparents are Linda and Vern Brown, Ottawa, Kans. and Curtis Minton, Paola, Kans.

Great grandparents are Bernard Esarey, De Queen; Betty and Troy Messer, Oklahoma City, Okla.; Violet Minton, Lenexa, Kans. and Marion Meek, Ft. Myers, Fla.; and a number of aunts and uncles.

John W. Smart

John W. Smart, age 80, resident of Ukiah, Calif., died Saturday, June 7, 2003.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 11 in Ukiah under the direction of Eversole Mortuary. Internment was in Evergreen Memorial Gardens.

He was born May 16, 1923 in Broken Bow, Okla., moved to California in 1950 and resided in Ukiah since 1965; worked a s a sawmill electrician for over 20 years at the mill in Calpella.

He is survived by his wife, Rachel Smart of Ukiah, Calif.; two daughters, Katherine Ball of Ponoma, Calif.; and Judy Lacefield of De Queen; two sons, John Beck of Ukiah, Calif., and Charles Beck of Albuquerque, NM; two sisters, Annie Mae Roath of Eureka, Calif., and Marie Reid of Broken Bow, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mary Lorene Odem

Mary Lorene Odem, age 83, died Tuesday, June 17, 2003 in an Abilene hospital.

Funeral services were held Thursday, June 19 at Elmwood Funeral Home Chapel in Abilene.

She was born May 12, 1920 at Gillham to Odus and Dollie Eason. She was predeceased by a son, Charles Minor; and a grandson, Tommie Charles Minor.

She is survived by two sons, Clifford Eason and Dwight Eason; one daughter, Christene Glass of Abilene, Tex.; two brothers, S.G. Eason of Lockesburg and Thomas Eason of De Queen; 17 grandchil-dren; 28 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
