Roy "Pete" Johnson

Roy "Pete" Johnson, age 76, a resident of the King Community, died Tuesday, October 11, 2005 at his home.

He was born September 25, 1929 in De Queen to Wade Hampton and Emily Etta (Lovell) Johnson. He was a rancher, a member of the First Baptist Church in Gillham, Farm Bureau board member and former president, a member of the Arkansas Cattlemen's Association, a member of the Silver Hill Masonic Lodge #485, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #542, a member of the Woodmen of the World, and served in the U.S. Air Force.

Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and three sisters.

He is survived by his wife, Chris (Wommack) Johnson of Aransas Pass, Texas; two sons, Jim Johnson of Houston, Texas, and Gary Johnson of Corpus Christi, Texas; one daughter, Sue Woodard of Aransas Pass, Texas; one grandson, Dustin Cash of Houston, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Funeral Services for Mr. Johnson were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 13, 2005 in the First Baptist Church in Gillham with Rev. Bob McManus officiating. Burial followed in the Valley cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family received friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 12, at the funeral home.

Loyce D. Robbins

Loyce D. Robbins, 87, of Benton, died Monday, November 21, 2005 in the Grace Healthcare Center. He was born on September 18, 1918 at Mena, Ark. to the late Jim and Donia (Hawthorne) Robbins. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Robbins.

Mr. Robbins was a member of the First Methodist Church of Benton, Methodist Men's Club, Past President of the Benton Rotary Club, THEOS, and a United States Army Veteran having served in the Philippines. He retired from Alcoa in 1980 as a Supervisor and was a member of the 25 Year Club.

Survivors include one son, James William Robbins of Port Neches, Texas; one granddaughter, Ginger Lynn Sabaj; one great-grandson, Ulyess Kris Sabaj, other relatives, and many friends.

Funeral services were conducted on Saturday, November 26, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. in the Roller-Ballard Funeral Home Chapel (315-4047) with Dr. George McCoy officiating. A graveside committal service were held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Redman cemetery at De Queen, Ark. Visitation was held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, 2005 at the funeral home. Pallbearers were First United Methodist Church Men's Club.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to American Heart Association, 909 W. 2nd St., Little Rock, AR 72201 or Chemical Engineering Scholarship Fund at University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

L. Corene Horne

L. Corene Horne, of Little Rock, and formerly of De Queen, died November 21, 2005.

She was born in Horatio, Arkansas, on April 4, 1922 to the late W.A. "Astor" and Margaret Gore Horne. She taught elementary school for 42 years, first in Horatio, then in De Queen and, in 1985, was named Elementary School Teacher of the Year. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen.

Miss Horne is survived by her sister, Katherine Horne Hargis; her nephew, Garry L. Hargis and his wife, Alison; great-nephew, Peter G. Hargis, all of Little Rock; and great-niece, Katheryn B. Hargis of Washington, D.C.

Miss Horne loved all children, but "T.T."'s greatest loves and joys were Garry, who could do nothing wrong in her eyes, and Katie and Peter, for whom she was a second grandmother. The epitome of goodness, she was a role model of how to love and treat others.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 26, 2005 in the Redmen cemetery with Ron Paul officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family received friends from 6:00-8:00 p.m., Friday, November 25, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's Arkansas, 10411 W. Markham, Little Rock, 72205.

Clyda Ola McLaughlin

Clyda Ola McLaughlin, 97, of De Queen, formerly of Nashville, died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 2005, at a De Queen nursing home. She was born August 19, 1908, at Doyle, Ark., the daughter of the late Thomas William and Florence Roberts Brandon.

She was preceded in death by her husband, K. L. Ball; brothers, Elbert Brandon, Van Brandon, and Earl Brandon; and a sister, Flora Brandon.

She is survived by one daughter, Charlene Williams of Sparkman, Ark.; one sister, Illene B. Chambers Bagwell of Nashville; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of friends.

Services were scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 18 at Latimer Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Ozan cemetery, Bingen, under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville.

The family received friends at Latimer Funeral Home, Thursday, Nov. 17 from 6 - 8 p.m.

Elmer Whisenhunt

Elmer W. Whisenhunt, age 82, a resident of Foreman, died Thursday, Sept. 28, 2006 at his home.

He was born Sept. 29, 1923 in Arkinda to William Aaron and Polly Ann Tipton Whisenhunt, was retired from the U.S. Army and Little River County, a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Vietnam, and Korea, a POW during World War II and received the Purple Heart.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Iona Whisenhunt on Sept. 22, 2000 and 11 brothers and sisters.

He is survived by one son, Steven Dale Whisenhunt of Jesup, Ga.; three daughters, Janet Kay McGoff of Frisco, Texas, Kathy Lynn Hankins of De Queen, and Melissa Nell Nunn of Foreman; one brother, Melvin Whisenhunt of Foreman; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Monday, Oct. 2 in the Crossroads Baptist Church with Jimmy Roden officiating. Burial followed in the Campground cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Linda Green

Mrs. Linda Baker Green, age 60, a resident of Houston, Texas, died Friday, Oct. 13, 2006 in a Houston hospital.

She was born March 9, 1946 in Wickes to Quincey E. and Callie Marie Young Baker, was a homemaker and a Baptist.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Willard Baker.

She is survived by her husband of over 41 years, Danny "Benny" Green of Houston, Texas; a daughter, Theresa Mercon of New Caney, Texas; one brother, Vernon Baker of Conroe, Texas; two sisters, Nila Fay Cook of Cleveland, Texas and Juanita Carter of Shepherd, Texas; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held Thursday, Oct. 19 in the Baker cemetery at Wickes under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home.

Helen Vogt Kelly

Mrs. Helen Maxine Vogt Kelly, age 66, a resident of Fayetteville, Ark., formerly a longtime resident of De Queen, died Sunday, October 1, 2006 in Fayetteville.

She was born February 15, 1940 in Marshall, MN to Walter and Corola Silberstein Vogt. She was a homemaker and a Presbyterian.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Kelly.

She is survived by a son, Kevin Kelly; her mother, Corola Vogt; a sister, Marlene Brewer; and a number of nieces, nephews and other family members.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Kelly were held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 4, 2006 in the Redman cemetery with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
