Mrs. Betty Jean Walker

Mrs. Betty Jean Louise Martin Walker, age 66, resident of Norman, Ark., was called to heaven on August 13, 2003.

She was born to Sanford George and Allie Mae Dwyer Martin at Muse, Okla., on April 2, 1937. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ottie Walker, her parents, two sisters, Allie Fackler, and Mattie Bradley, and one brother, S.G. Martin.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: Paul and Wendy Walker of Lockesburg; and Keith and Melba Walker of Ashdown, Ark.; three daughters and son-in-law: Arline Icenhower, Brenda Durham, and Kathy and Raymond Vallee all of Lockesburg, Ark.

She is also survived by sixteen grandchildren; twelve great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, several aunts, cousins, and two very special friends, John Ridenour and Marvin Haynie. She had many others who called her friend, grandma, and mama. She loved life to the fullest. She was a homemaker, an avid reader and loved children. She was loved by all and will be forever missed.

Funeral services for Mrs. Betty Jean Walker were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, August 16, 2003 in the Mt. Joy Church, Daisy, Ark., with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in Mt. Joy cemetery, under the direction of Chundler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Active pallbearers were grandsons, Michael Walker, Timmy Stubbs; Justin Stubbs; Loyd Robert Walker; Christopher James Puckett; Christopher Bryan Stubbs. Honorary pallbearers were grandsons, Ray Vallee; Levi Durham; Joshua Walker and Mason Walker.

Norma Sue Bedwell

Norma Sue "Susie" Cannon Bedwell, age 80, resident of Nashville, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2003 in a Texarkana hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 10 in Nashville Funeral Home with Bro. David Blasé officiating. Burial will follow in Restland cemetery.

She was born Sept. 25, 1922 in Lockesburg to Grover Cleveland and Mary Ann Ray Cannon; was a member of Lockesburg Baptist Church; a former LPN at Howard Memorial Hospital; and a graduate of Red River’s first nursing class. She was predeceased by her son, David R. White; two brothers, Runyon Cannon and Gordon Cannon; and two sisters, Doris McKeehan and Avis (Squeaky) Lofton.

She is survived by three daughters, Janet Patton of New Boston, Tex., Rita Jackson of Little Rock and Karen Goodson of Nashville; one sister, Ann May of Shreveport, La.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist building fund, P.O. Box 339, Nashville, AR 71852.

Harvey Morris

Mr. James Harvey Morris, age 58, resident of Crescent, Oklahoma died Tuesday, August 12, 2003, after losing his battle with cancer.

He was born April 19, 1945 in De Queen, Arkansas, to Buck and Minnie Morris of Gillham. After graduation from Gillham High School in 1963 he attended Southern State College in Magnolia, Ark., majoring in Animal Science and Agriculture Education. He was a member of the livestock judging team there. After two years at Southern State he transferred to OSU in Stillwater, Oklahoma. While at OSU, his junior year, he won first place individual and his team won first place at the annual senior college livestock judging contest at the Southwestern Exposition in Fort Worth, Texas. After graduating from OSU he attended Texas A&M.; He then accepted a professorship at Southern State, then returned to Oklahoma. For the past 33 years, he had worked at the Oklahoma City Stockyards as a cattle broker.

He was preceded in death by his father, James Thomas "Buck" Morris in September 2000, and a brother, Johnny Morris in April 1999 and a nephew, Brian Morris in August 2001.

He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda; three sons and daughter-in-law: Shawn of Guthrie, Okla., Jammie and Misty of Crescent, Okla., and Jeffrey of Santa Clara, Calif.; one daughter and son-in-law: Shannon and Craig Freitag of Santa Clara, Calif.; two grandsons: Blake and Tristan; four granddaughters: Savannah, Michaela, Sonita, and Savanna; his mother, Minnie Morris of Gillham; three brothers and sisters-in-law: Marvin and Tina Morris of Oklahoma City, Okla., David and Donna Morris, and Scottie and Shelly Morris, both of Gillham; two sisters and brother-in-law: Sandra and Dale Oglesby and Kathy Saddler, all of Gillham, and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Harvey Morris were held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, August 15, 2003 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel, De Queen. Burial followed in the Overturf cemetery, Gillham.

Robert Copelin

Robert Lee Copelin, of Mena, died Friday, March 14, 2003 in the St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Ft. Smith, Ark.

Funeral services were held at 12 noon Monday, March 17 in the First Assembly of God Church in Mena with Bro. Norman Ward, Bro. Mike Shaddon and Bro. Ron Tilley officiating. Interment was in the Concord cemetery under the direction of Beasley-Wood Funeral Home of Mena. Family visitation was Sunday, March 16 from 2 to 4 p.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Robert was born November 3, 1943 in De Queen, Ark., to the late Robert Ward Copelin and Mary Frances Williams Copelin, his age being 59 years, 4 months, and 12 days.

He was married on August 20, 1963, in Mena, to Patsy Rhea Brumbelow; was a machinist at U.S. Motors in Mena; a member of the Copelin Family singing group; and attended the First Assembly of God Church in Mena.

He was predeceased by his father and one brother, Huey Wayne Copelin.

He is survived by his wife, Patsy Rhea Copelin; a son, Bobby Copelin; a daughter, Patricia Ann McAllister; his mother, Mary Frances Copelin; a sister, Joyce Liles; and a brother, Stephen Paul Copelin, all of Mena; three grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and a host of other family and friends.

Pallbearers were Lloyd "Woody" Self, David Edwards, Kenneth Denton, Howard Fruen, Brent Shrader and Tim Skaggs. Honorary pallbearers were Richard Copelin, Kenneth Copelin, Landon Copelin, Tim Copelin, Allen Brumbelow, and Gerald Liles.

Glen Ray Mooneyham

Glen Ray Mooneyham, age 58, resident of Horatio, died Tuesday, March 10, 2003 at his home.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, March 13 in West Otis cemetery at Horatio with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.

He was born Nov. 10, 1944 at Horatio to Harold and Nettie Ross Mooneyham; was a truck driver; and a member of Horatio United Methodist Church. He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Benny Mooneyham in 1990 and Harold Leroy Mooneyham in 1999; and his wife, Charlotte Mooneyham in March of 2001.

He is survived by one son, Richard Easlon of Horatio; three step-daughters, Sheila Chandler of Horatio, Denise Gentry of De Queen and Lisa Frady of Cerro Gordo; one brother, Gilbert L. Mooneyham of Horatio; two sisters, Linda Jean Carrell of Lockesburg and Helen Gatlin of De Queen; and two grandchildren.

Bessie Mae Farley

Mrs. Bessie Mae Works Farley, age 86, a resident of Gillham, died Wednesday, March 12, 2003 in the De Queen Regional Medical Center.

She was born on September 26, 1916 in Nashville, Ark. to Henry and Lula De'Armond Works. She was a homemaker and a member of the 3rd Street Baptist Church in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Mrs. Farley was preceded in death by her husband: Andrew James Farley and two sons: James Henry and Arthur Lee Farley.

She is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law: John Edward and Lawanda Farley of Gillham, Billy Frank and Bonita Farley of De Queen and Delois Farley of Gillham; two daughters and a son-in-law: Mary and Doyle Bagley of Wickes and Barbara West of Springfield, Missouri; 14 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; a number of step-grandchildren and a very special niece: Clara Hughes of Hot Springs, Ark.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Farley were held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2003 in the Mineral cemetery in Gillham, with Rev. Tim Bowlin and Rev. Neal Warren officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Prior to the service the family was at the home of Bill and Bonita Farley in De Queen. The day of the service the family was at the home of John and Lawanda Farley in Gillham.

The family received friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 13 at the funeral home.

Ada Poole

Mrs. Ada Poole, age 92, former resident of De Queen died Thursday March 13 at Magnolia Regional Medical Center in Corinth, Miss.

Mrs. Poole was born March 15, 1910 in Daisy, Ark. to Will and Minnie Tedder.

Mrs. Poole was a cook for many years at Self Creek in Daisy, Ark. and a beautician. She loved cooking, quilting, sewing, fishing and taking care of others.

Mrs. Poole was preceded in death by her husbands: Claude Sanders and Fred Poole and one granddaughter, Alicia Kersey.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law: Claudette and Henry Goodwin, of Michie, Tenn. formally of De Queen. One granddaughter: Shawna Talkington, of De Queen and two great grandchildren who were the light in her life: Sydney Conatser and Austin Talkington, of De Queen, and one sister Ruby Walston, of Alexander, Ind.

Funeral services were held Saturday March 15, at 10:00 a.m. at Mt. Joy cemetery, Daisy, Ark.

Visitation was at Davis Funeral Home in Glenwood Ark., Friday, March 14 from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
