Mark Austin Curtis
Mark Austin Curtis, age 22, a resident of De Queen dies Tuesday, December 29, 2020, in North Hills, California.

He was born in De Queen, Arkansas. He enjoyed listening to music, had a fascination with cars, snorkeling and going to the beach and he loved animals.

Mr. Curtis was preceded in death by his grandparents, Barbara Curtis, James Simmons and Roy Ferguson.

He is survived by his mother, Crystal Renea Simmons Starkey of Homer, LA; his father, Mark Alan and Rashele Curtis of De Queen; one sister Shandra Curtis of Guam, three brothers, Steven Curtis of De Queen, Logan Quinn of IL, Cason Halter of Homer, LA, grandmother, Kathy Ferguson and a number of uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, January 14, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at De Queen Country Club.

The family requests that everyone wear a face mask and practice social distancing for safety.

Terry Lee Miller
Terry Lee Miller, age 64, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas died Saturday, January 9, 2021, in Little Rock.

He was born July 14, 1956 in De Queen. He began his career in industrial sales with Burgess Power Equipment Company in De Queen, and later worked for King Bearing, Motion Industries, Inc., HSI and Applied Industrial Technologies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and his four legged best friends. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in De Queen. He was “Pop Pops” to his three grand girls and always said, “Never let the truth get in the way of a good story.”

Mr. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Glen Lee and Selma Lee Richmond Miller; and his best friend, Shooter.

He is survived by his wife of 40 years, Sonya Gilbert Miller of De Queen; a son, Brooks Miller of De Queen; a daughter and son-in-law, Lindsey and Chris Wimberly of Fayetteville, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Becky, Helen and Emily Wimberly; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Judy Miller of Hot Springs; a nephew, Michael Miller; and a niece, Amanda McDowell.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 12, 2021 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel.

A family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of De Queen, P.O. Box 488, De Queen, AR 71832, or the Sevier County Humane Society, P.O. Box 872, De Queen, AR 71832.

Kenneth E. Crow
Kenneth Crow was born March 23, 1926, in Rocky, Oklahoma. He passed from this life and went to his heavenly home Thursday, January 7, 2021, in Nashville, Arkansas. He was a skilled logger & truck driver, and enjoyed farming, plowing his garden with mules, sharing his vegetables and training horses. He was a WWII Army veteran who served as 1st Scout in infantry, and he attended Old Time Gospel Church.

Mr. Crow was preceded in death by his parents, William Matthew and Edith Mattingly Crow; his wife, Elizabeth Jane “Betty” Carver Crow; two grandchildren, Kai Leeper and Billy Ashcraft; a great grandchild, Shyann Ashcraft; two childhood brothers Harold and Clifford and an infant sister; sister Millie Crow McKellar; brother Bruce Crow; and three sons, Ronnie Crow, Randy Crow and Danny Crow.

He is survived by one brother and sister in law, Gail and Pat Crow of Broken Bow, OK; one sister Peggy Crow of Leesville, LA; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rudy and Linda Hatridge of Wilton, Arkansas and Larry and Judy Bowman of Texarkana, Arkansas; seven daughters and three sons-in-law, Rhonda and Perry Small of Conway, Arkansas, Robyn Hatridge of Texarkana, Arkansas, LaBetha and Greg Patterson of Provo, Arkansas, Sheila and Van Cole of Stigler, Oklahoma, Susie Fugate and Monnie Moore both of Sutherlin, Oregon and Cheryl Beck of Wasilla, Alaska; and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Crow will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021, in the Old Time Gospel Church with Jerrel Helms officiating. Burial will follow in the McHorse Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

General viewing will be held from 8:00 a.m. – 8 p.m., Monday, January 11, 2021 at the funeral home. The family will receive friends starting at 4:00 p.m. Please wear masks.

Mr. Jim Mills
Mr. James Mack Mills, affectionately called, Jim, age 73, a resident of De Queen, died Friday, January 8 at his home surrounded by his family.

He was next to the youngest of seven sons born to Leonard Jake and Stella Marie Dunagan Mills. Jim was born on November 11, 1947 in O’Brien, Oregon. He had worked for Weyerhaeuser Company for 35 years before becoming owner operator of Jim’s Auto Sales. He married the love of his life, Glenda Kay Van Voast on January 17, 1969, and to this union, one daughter and twin sons were born. He and Glenda were members of the Kern Heights Baptist Church. Jim loved watching football, and was an avid Oregon Ducks fan. He enjoyed watching westerns, restoring antique cars, flag football, baseball, and softball. He coached a flag football team called “Over the Hill Gang”, and he also played on church softball and bowling teams. Most of all, Jim cherished the time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Jim is preceded in death by his parents, and five brothers, Edward, Len, Charles, Gene, and Bob Mills.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 52 years, Glenda Mills of De Queen, a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Steve Snider of De Queen, two sons and daughters-in-law,
Timmy and Amy Mills of De Queen and Jimmy and Kelly Mills of Lockesburg, five grandchildren, Kaleb and his wife, Brittany, Trevor, Tristan, Brodey, and Jed, two great-grandchildren, Haylinn, and Bosten; a brother, Larry and his wife, Karen Mills of De Queen, as well as nieces, nephews, and other family members.

Funeral Services for Mr. Jim Mills will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, January 11, 2021 in the Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Bobby Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Cemetery, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M., Sunday, at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to the American Liver Foundation, 39 Broadway, Suite 2700, New York, New York 10006.

The use of face mask or covering will be required during your time at the funeral home.

William “Bill” Jones
William Talmadge “Bill” Jones, Jr., or more affectionately known as “Pops,” of Flower Mound, Texas was born September 11, 1951 in Seguin, Texas and passed peacefully January 7, 2021 in Dallas, Texas at the age of 69 years.

Bill grew up and attended school in Rusk, Texas until his Sophomore year in high school when his family moved to Nacogdoches, Texas where he graduated from Nacogdoches High School.

He moved to Irving, Texas after school where he met his sweetheart, Julie, and then moved his family to DeQueen, Arkansas where he became a police officer, and later Chief of Police, of the DeQueen Arkansas Police Department. He provided upstanding service to the DeQueen community from 1977-1985 when he resigned as Chief and moved back to Irving, Texas with his wife and two children.

Bill started his own private security company in Dallas, TX where he provided security services to both businesses and the private sector until his retirement. In his 5 years of “retirement”, Bill took great pleasure in working for the City of Highland Village, Texas caring for the residents, visitors and grounds of Pilot Knoll Park on Lake Lewisville until his passing.

Bill voluntarily devoted much of his time and energy to supporting youth sports organizations throughout his life. Bill is fondly remembered as a colorful character by the numerous friends who meant so much to him.

Bill was preceeded in death by father William T. Jones, Sr. and mother Elva “Jeanette” Finley Jones. He is survived by his ex-wife, Julie Jones, his daughter Jennifer and husband Doug Haugh, son Justin and wife Megan Jones. Bill will also be fondly remembered by his 6 grandchildren Dakota, Brayden, Landry, Logan, Audrey Anne and Bristol, by his sister Linda Roberts, sister Jana and husband Rob Pickett. Nephew Brent and wife Siggi Roberts and nephew Breckyn Pickett.

Mulkey-Mason Funeral Home in Lewisville, Texas is handling arrangements. A celebration of Bill’s life will occur on Monday, January 11, 2021 at 3:30pm at the Flower Mound Cemetery in Flower Mound, Texas.

Bennie Jean Speck
Bennie Jean Speck, age 91, a resident of Benton, Arkansas and formerly of De Queen, AR, died Wednesday, January 6, 2021, in Benton.

She was born July 14, 1929, in Houston, Texas. Mrs. Speck enjoyed spending time with her family and she was a member of the First Baptist Church of De Queen.

Mrs. Speck was preceded in death by her parents, Floyd Martin and Lonnie Mae Kendrick Renfrow and husband Arthur William Speck.

She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Deborah and Jim Northum of Benton, Arkansas and Sherry Harris of De Queen; one son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Sonya Renfrow of Horatio; one sister, Sandra Renfrow of Fort Smith, AR; three grandchildren, Jess William and wife Dakota Northum, Taylor Harris and Ben Renfrow.

Due to COVID a private burial will be held.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St. Jude PL Memphis, TN 38105-9959.

John Kenneth Monroe
John Kenneth Monroe, age 88, a resident of Horatio, Arkansas died Monday, January 4, 2021, in Texarkana, Texas.

He was born October 2, 1932, in King, Arkansas. He loved life, the Lord, his family and music. He loved singing anywhere, anytime. He played music by ear and taught others to play. He had sawmilling in his blood and had a passion for woodworking. He loved family reunions and would give the shirt off his back for anyone. He was a U.S. Army Veteran and a member of the Old Center Church in Horatio.

Mr. Monroe was preceded in death by his parents Cleve Dalton and Jennie Belle Hamiter Monroe; four brothers, Rayburn Monroe, Glen C. Monroe, Peavy Monroe and Linville Monroe.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years Lynda Emerson Monroe; three sons and two daughters-in-law, Greg Monroe of De Queen, Gary and Becky Monroe of Plano, Texas and Mark and Lynda Ramsey Monroe of Horatio; seven grandchildren, Mallory, Adam, Mathew, Starr, Laynie, Shannon and Bethany; ten great grandchildren and one on the way and a number of nieces and nephews.

A private family service will be held.

General viewing for Mr. Monroe will be held from noon until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2021 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Old Center Cemetery association, 1231 Central Road Horatio, AR, 71842 or the charity of your choice.

The family requests that everyone wear a face mask and practice social distancing for safety.
