Rita Schmidt

Rita Louise Schmidt, age 66, a resident of Texarkana, Texas, died Monday, December 11, 2017 in the Waterton Plaza, Texarkana, Texas.

She was born to Joseph Herbert "Bud" and Bobbie Louise Duff Schmidt in Houston, Texas on August 13, 1951. She was an accountant for Defense Financial Accounting Services, and a Baptist. She enjoyed gardening, flowers, sewing and was an avid reader.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by one son, Kristopher Schmidt of Texarkana, Texas, a brother and sister-in-law, David Rodney and Deborah Schmidt of Arden, Arkansas, an aunt, Billie M. Duff of Houston, Texas, a nephew, Dustin Schmidt of Ashdown, two nieces, Heather Thrash, and Misty Parker Both of Ashdown, and six great-nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Rita Schmidt will be held Saturday, December 16, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. in the Millwee Cemetery, Horatio, Arkansas, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. Visitation will be Friday, December 15, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Mrs. Charlotte Burt

Mrs. Charlotte Jean Jewell Burt, age 69, a resident of De Queen, Arkansas, died Wednesday, December 6, 2017, at her home.

She was born to Richard and Bernice Fuller Jewell in Minneapolis, Minnesota, on October 8, 1948. She worked at Control Data, as well as a homemaker. She enjoyed crocheting, and riding her motorcycle. She loved animals, especially her puppy, Liz.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

She is survived by her husband, Dan Burt of De Queen, two daughters, Lisa Sonenstahl and
Lori Peterson both of Minneapolis, Minnesota, a sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Richard Pucel of Ely, Minnesota, two brothers and a sister-in-law, Michael and Connie Jewell of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Clay Jewell of Tulsa, Oklahoma, and a number of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

No service is scheduled at this time. Cremation under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen, Arkansas.

Frances Lucille Coffey

Ms. Frances Lucille Coffey, age 76, a resident of Foreman, Arkansas, died Monday, December 4, 2017, in Texarkana, Arkansas surrounded by her family.

She was born October 11, 1941 in Hugo, Oklahoma. She was a school nurse for over 20 years at the Foreman school district. She was a loving mother, grandmother, Gigi, and second mother to several exchange students. Ms. Coffey was a member of the Foreman Church of Christ and an avid Cowboys and Razorbacks fan.

Ms. Coffey was preceded in death by her parents, Forrest and Esther Talley.

She is survived by her two children and spouses, Terry and Jennifer Coffey of Hot Springs, Arkansas and David and Denise Bailey of Horatio, Arkansas; a brother and sister-in-law, Jerry and Andrea Talley of Foreman; her 7 grandchildren, Anthony Bailey of Paris, Texas, Lareina Stiner of Texarkana, Arkansas, Patricia Wood of Reno, Texas, Kena Bailey of Fayetteville, Arkansas, Jamie Coffey of New York, New York, Justin Coffey and Bo Coffey both of Hot Springs, 8 great-grandchildren, a number of nieces and nephews, as well as several great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Ms. Coffey will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2017, in the Foreman Church of Christ with Bro. Ricky Gregory officiating. Burial will follow in Dollarhide Cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

The family will receive friends from 6-8 Friday, December 8, 2017, at the Foreman Church of Christ.

Mary Alice Hughes Talley

Mary Alice Hughes Talley age 83, of Mena, Arkansas formerly of Wickes passed away Sunday, December 3, 2017 in Mena.

She was born the daughter of Tim Hughes Se. and Gert Forest Hughes on December 5, 1933 in Doyline, Louisiana. Mrs. Talley was married to the late George David Talley. She was a loving mother, grandmother, grandmother, sister, and friend to all who knew her. She will be dearly missed by all.

She is survived by:

Angie Blanton and husband Steve, of De Queen, Arkansas

Granddaughters: Kari Winters and husband Pete

Children, Gavin and Ean Shadden, Brook Winters, Zach Winters and

Kriston Morris and husband John

Child, Riley Morris of Pea Ridge, Arkansas

Grandsons: Jonathan Blanton and wife Rhonda

Children, Peyton and Jace of De Queen, Arkansas

Matthew Blanton and wife Megan of Van Buren, Arkansas

Joseph Watkins and wife Lista

Children, Savanah, Colbee, and Eden Watkins of Tahlequah, Oklahoma

Gerald Watkins and wife Heather

Children, Kalin, Bailey, Addison, and Avery Watkins, of Wickes, Arkansas

Justin Watkins of Mena, Arkansas

Brothers: Joe Hughes and wife Martha of Broken Bow, Oklahoma

David Hughes and wife Linda of Horatio, Arkansas

Sister: Margaret Smith of Quinlan, Texas

Numerous nieces and nephews and a multitude of church family and friends

She was preceded in death by parents, Tim Hughes and Gertrude Hughes, Sr. two brothers, Tim Hughes, Jr. and James Hughes, a sister Gwendolyn and her loving and devoted husband George David Talley.

Funeral service will be Thursday, December 7, 2017, 2:00 p.m. at Pentecostal Church of God in Wickes, with Brother Chris Burke officiating. Interment will follow in the Belleville Cemetery in Lockesburg, Arkansas under the direction of Beasley Wood Funeral Home of Mena.

Pallbearers will be Donald Talley, Jonathan Blanton, Matthew Blanton, Gerald Watkins, Joseph Watkins, Pete Winters, and John Morris

Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Wayne Herring, Rex Herring, and Westin Burke.

Mrs. Kathryn Gentry

Mrs. Kathryn Louise Gentry, age 90, a resident of Wickes, Arkansas, passed from this life on Friday, December 1, 2017 at her home in Wickes.

Kathryn was an avid reader, enjoyed her flowers, cooking, and most of all, spending time with her family. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Wickes.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Albert Guy Gentry, on December 9, 2010. Kathryn was also preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Houston and Preston Wolf, a sister, Frances Dolph; and a daughter-in-law, Diane Gentry.

She is survived by three daughters and their husbands, Cheryl Sullivan and James of Texarkana, Texas, Patsy and Mickey Evers of Texarkana, Texas, Gina and Ricky Rosson of Wickes, Arkansas, three sons and their wives, Larry Gentry of Texarkana, Texas, Michael and Marilyn Gentry of Wake Village, Texas, and Curt and Jan Gentry of Phoenix, Arizona; seventeen grandchildren and their spouses, Harlan and Rhonda Sullivan, Cherrilyn and Brett Counts, Kimberlee and Scott Roxburgh, Misty and Anthony Knighton, Jason and Nicole Evers, Brent and Michelle Gentry, Christy and James Solomon, Chris and Kathy McGee, Cristin and Joey Boatright, Phillip and Bethany Stayton, Matthew Gentry, Sydnee and Andy McClure, Alexandria Gentry, Tori and Bryce Cooper, Colten Gentry, Nicholas Rosson, and Trenton Rosson; 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Ethel Waldon of De Queen, Arkansas, as well as, a number of nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mrs. Kathryn Gentry will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, December 6, 2017 in the Wickes Church of Christ with Bro. David Jacobs officiating. Burial will follow in the Daniel Cemetery, Wickes, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M.

Mr. Red Pennington

Mr. Thurman “Red” Pennington, age 75, a resident of Lockesburg, Arkansas, died Wednesday, November 29, 2017, in the Little River Memorial Hospital, Ashdown.

He was born to Buford Floyd and Eugenia Gore Pennington, on February 15, 1942, in the Lone Oak Community of Sevier County, Arkansas. He married the love of his life Mary Abernathy Pennington on December 20, 1971 in Idabel, Oklahoma. He enjoyed riding his horses.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Buford “Buzzy” Wayne Pennington.

He is survived by his wife of over 45 years, two daughters, Mary Ruth Pennington of Elkins, Arkansas and Sarah Ann Pennington of Fayetteville, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Stassney Brown of Nacogdoches, Texas, Aaron Brown of Sugarland, Texas, and Aubrey Pennington of Fayetteville, Arkansas; and one sister, Marvarine Wright of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; he is also survived by a number of nieces, nephews, other family members, and a host of friends.

Funeral services for Mr. Red Pennington will be held 2:00 P.M., Friday, December 1, 2017 at the Millwee Cemetery in Horatio, Arkansas under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen. The family will receive friends Thursday, November 30, 2017 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.
