Beatrice Byrd Cox

Mrs. Beatrice Byrd Cox, age 84, resident of De Queen, died Monday, March 1, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 9, 1919 in Wilmot; was a homemaker; and a member of First United Methodist Church of De Queen, D.A.R. and Eastern Star. She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Cox on Nov. 26, 1979; her parents; Bea and Thelma Lindsey Byrd; and a sister, Faye Louise Stein.

She is survived by two sons, James E. Cox of Port Aransas, Tex., and John S. Cox of Little River Club; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3 in Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Bill Fish officiating. Burial followed in Redmen cemetery.

Lillie Sullivan

Mrs. Lillie Roma Rogers Sullivan, age 91, resident of De Queen, died Thursday, Feb. 26, 2004 in a Texarkana hospital.

She was born Dec. 28, 1912 at Haworth, Okla., to Glen and Mary Williams Rogers; was a member of First Baptist Church of De Queen; and a homemaker. She was predeceased by her parents; 11 brothers and sisters; and her husband, Jasper Murry Sullivan.

She is survived by five sons, Gene Sullivan of Colorado Springs, Colo., Dal Sullivan of Phoenix, Ariz.; and Kerry Sullivan, Kelsey Sullivan and Arnold “D.D.” Sullivan, all of De Queen; three daughters, Sheron Martin of Okeechobee, Fla., Gwen Baity of De Queen, and Iris Ward of Texarkana; 20 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; and a number of great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 28 in Chapel Hill cemetery with Rev. Travis Lane officiating, under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Rev. Raymond Earl Goodwin

Rev. Raymond Earl Goodwin, 84, of Beverly Healthcare, El Dorado, went to his heavenly home on Friday, February 20, 2004. He was a member of Wyatt Baptist Church where he served as Associate Pastor Emeritus since 1996. He was a member of the Truth Seekers Sunday School Class and a former pastor of Rose Hill Baptist Church.

Born June 30, 1919 in El Dorado, he was the son of T. E. and Ester Hampton Goodwin. He was a graduate of Wyatt School and Columbia Bible School in Magnolia. He was ordained as a deacon and later as a pastor by Wyatt Baptist Church. He served in the U. S. Air Force during World War II. Since 1950, he pastored B. M. A. A. churches in Arkansas, Louisiana and Texas. At Wyatt Baptist Church he directed the Children's Worship and frequently visited in hospitals and nursing homes in El Dorado and with those who were homebound.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Willie Lou Adams Goodwin; a son, Bruce; and his brother, Garfield Goodwin.

Survivors include three daughters, Laura Elrod of Texarkana, Ark., Jan Wheelus of El Dorado, and Jeannie Wold of Athens, Ga., four grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He was a loving husband and father.

Funeral services were held at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, February 22, 2004 at Wyatt Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Lee officiating. Interment followed in the Wyatt-Parnell cemetery under the direction of Bailey Funeral Home of El Dorado. Deacons of the church served as pallbearers.

Memorials may be made to Wyatt Baptist Church Building Fund, 4621 West Hillsboro, El Dorado, AR 71730.

Jeffie Johnson

Mrs. Jeffie Johnson, age 91, resident of De Queen, died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 14, 1912 in Quitman, Tex., to George and Roxy Miller Rink; was a homemaker; retired from De Queen School System; and a lifetime member of First United Methodist Church in De Queen. She was predeceased by her husband, Gus Johnson in 1991; and two sisters, Ethel Whitley and Flo Morrison.

She is survived by two daughters, Jackie Lyons and LaVonne Mullins Tutt, both of De Queen; a sister, Frankie Brooks of De Queen; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20 in Redmen cemetery with Rev. Bill Fish officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church.

The family will be at the home of Jackie Lyons, 502 N. Bennett in De Queen.

Ida Naomie Elizabeth (Hinsley) Gathright

Mrs. Ida Naomie Elizabeth (Hinsley) Gathright, age 90, a resident of Lockesburg, died Wednesday, February 18, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.

She was born January 2, 1914 in Milford Community, Lockesburg, Arkansas to M. W. J. (Billy) and Iola (Ola Shelley) Hinsley.

She was a loving wife and mother, a homemaker and a member of the Old Union Missionary Baptist Church, Lockesburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Guy Gibson Gathright on September 3, 1989, her parents and seven brothers.

She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, James Alon and Nelda Gathright, and Harold Lynn and Willa Gathright of Lockesburg; one brother, Robbie Hinsley of Texarkana, Texas; three grandsons and granddaughters-in-law, Mike and Valerie Gathright, Scott and April Gathright, and Toby and Gayle Gathright; one granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cathy and Larry Eason; five great-grandsons; one great-granddaughter; one great-granddaughter-in-law; one step-great-grandson; one step-great-granddaughter; one step-great-great-granddaughter, all of Lockesburg; also two special granddaughters-in-law, Diann Gathright of Lockesburg and Shelia Black of De Queen.

Funeral services for Mrs. Gathright were held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 21, 2004 in the Old Union Church with Bro. Donnie Davis officiating. Burial followed in the Lockesburg cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family was at Mama Ida's home, 161 W. Pine Street in Lockesburg.

Natalie Joy Wagner

Natalie Joy Wagner, infant daughter of Jason and Denice Wagner, died Feb. 16, 2004 in a Ft. Worth, Texas hospital.

In addition to her parents she is survived by a sister, Grace; her grandparents, Joyce and Tommy Wagner of Horatio and Don and Vonice Dawley of Arkadelphia; and her great-grandparents, Mildred Etzkorn of De Queen and Frances Wagner of Horatio.

Graveside funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 20 in Clear Creek cemetery with Father John Kerr officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Alta Mae Green

Mrs. Alta Mae Chaffin Green, age 90, resident of Horatio, died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004 at the home of her daughter in Wills Point, Tex.

She was born Jan. 27, 1914 at Francis, Okla., to Toll Bryan and Hattie Abegail Dill Chaffin; was a member of Horatio Assembly of God Church; and a homemaker. She was predeceased by her parents; and her husband, Charlie H. Green in 1995.

She is survived by three daughters, Charlene Garrett of Wills Point, Tex., Imogene Smith of Ashdown, and Carolyn Garcia of Garland, Tex.; a brother, LeRoy Chaffin of Paris, Tex.; a sister, Juanita Stewart of Horatio; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. J.L. Walker officiating. Burial followed in Clear Creek cemetery.

Roy Neal Loyd

Roy Neal Loyd, 57, of Broken Bow, Oklahoma passed away February 17, 2004 at Wadley Regional Medical Center, Texarkana, Texas. He was born March 2, 1946 in Roberta, Oklahoma, the son of Roy and Genova Carter Loyd.

Roy Neal Loyd and Sheila June Ray were married July 2, 2000.

He was affiliated with the Baptist faith and loved spending time with his family and friends and spent as much time as was possible with his wife. He enjoyed fishing, camping, gardening, hunting, and cooking. He had been a resident of the community for most of his life, moving from Arkansas.

Roy was preceded in death by his father, Roy Loyd, and his mother-in-law, Dorothy Ray.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Sheila Loyd of Broken Bow, Oklahoma; his mother, Genova Loyd of De Queen, Arkansas; one son, Rodney Loyd of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Angela Loyd and Charlotte Hames, both of Little Rock, Arkansas; one brother and sister-in-law, Ron and Bertha Loyd of De Queen, Arkansas; three granddaughters, and several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, February 20, 2004 at the Brumley Chapel, Broken Bow, with burial following in Glover cemetery under the direction of Brumley Funeral Home, Broken Bow, Oklahoma. Pastor Charles Loyd will officiate.

Elsie Catherine Hoosier

Mrs. Elsie Catherine Hoosier, age 78, resident of Mansfield, Tex., died Monday, Feb. 16, 2004 in Osteopathic Medical of Texas at Fort Worth, Tex.

She was born Sept. 19, 1925 in Geddes, SD, to William McKinnley and Margaret Hanson Welch. She was predeceased by her first husband, Wesley David Fitzgerald in 1990; and two sons, David Fitzgerald in 1985 and Dale Fitzgerald in 1988.

She is survived by her husband, Luther Hoosier, whom she married on Sept. 9, 2001; a daughter, Barbara Kight of Lockesburg; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Graveside funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 in Old Union cemetery with Rev. Larry Fry officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 at the funeral home.

Alice Irene Minor

Mrs. Alice Irene Brooks Minor, age 61 a resident of De Queen, died Thursday, August 5, 2004 in Hot Springs, AR.

She was born February 9, 1943 in Glenwood, AR, to Marion and Nora Brinkley Brooks. She was a homemaker, seamstress and a member of the De Queen Church of Christ.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Walter Minor on May 2, 2004.

She is survived by three sons: Danny Easlon, Donny Easlon and Richard Easlon, all of De Queen; two daughters: Vickie Dunn of De Queen, and Valorie Minor of Eagletown, OK; a step-son: John James Minor of De Queen; thirteen grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Minor were held at 3:00 p.m. Monday, August 9, 2004 in the Chapel Hill cemetery with Paul Hillier, minister officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
