Jane Eden

Mrs. Jane Eden, age 80, resident of Plainview, died Monday, April 19, 2004.

She as born Nov. 29, 1923 at Gilkey to Dick and Ethel Fisher; was married Roy Eden on Oct. 31, 1942; and retired from the United States Post Office. She was predeceased by her parents; four brothers, Bud, Paul, Allen and Lemuel Fisher; and two sisters, Jean Chism and Nancy Fisher.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Eden of Plainview; two sons, Roy Eden of De Queen and Mike Eden of Fordyce; six grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 21 in Plainview Jesus Name Pentecostal Church with Bro. Stacey Lisenbey officiating. Burial followed in New Bethel cemetery under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service.

Visitation was held from 6 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 20 at the funeral home.

J.E. Loper

J.E. Loper, age 82, resident of Colleyville, Tex., and formerly of Lockesburg, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 in Colleyville.

He was born Aug. 13, 1921 in Durant, Okla.; was a heavy equipment mechanic; and an Army veteran of World War II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Waunie E. Loper on Feb. 1, 2001; and one daughter, Vickie Kampstra on June 13, 2001.

He is survived by one son, Randy Loper of Colleyville, Tex.; five daughters, Darlene Laner of Howells, Neb., Sue Mize of Hatfield, Linda Taylor of Lockesburg, Debbie Edmiaston of De Queen and Tammy Durand of North Richardson Hills, Tex.; one brother, Roy Loper of Roebuck, SC; 21 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, May 15 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Wesley Blankenship officiating. Burial followed in Redmen cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Linda Taylor, 298 J. Clark Road, Lockesburg.

Luceille Virginia Jones

Luceille Virginia Couch Jones, age 82, resident of Nathan died Wednesday, May 19, 2004 at her home.

She was born June 13, 1921; was retired from Pike County Hospital; and a member of Nathan Church of Christ. She was preceded in death by her husband, Doyle Wesley Jones; a son, Eddie Clarence Jones; her parents, Clarence and Delphia Couch; and a brother, Raymond Couch.

She is survived by her children, John W. Jones of Nashville, Eva Cox and Betty Hughes, both of Nathan, and Patsy Lawless of De Queen; a brother, Calvin Couch of Nathan; eight grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 22 at Latimer Funeral Home, Nashville. Burial followed in Academy cemetery in Nathan.

Fredrick Durden Dunn

Fredrick Durden Dunn, age 91, resident of De Queen, died Monday, May 10, 2004 in Brookewood Nursing Center.

He was born Oct. 6, 1912 in De Queen to Sam and Siddie Durden Dunn; was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II; a rancher and timberman; and a member of First Christian Church of De Queen and the DAV. He was preceded in death by his parents; and two brothers, Rex Dunn and John Dunn.

He is survived by his wife, Jewel Brown Dunn of De Queen; two sons, Rick Dunn and Sam Kelley, both of De Queen; one daughter, Lou Ann Huckaby of De Queen; one brother, Richard Dunn of De Queen; nine grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 13 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Faron Rogers officiating. Burial followed in Chapel Hill cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 12 at the funeral home.

Gertrude Austin

Mrs. Gertrude Austin, age 92, resident of Brenhem, Tex., and formerly of Dierks, died Sunday, April 18, 2004 in Brenhem.

She was born Nov. 17, 1911. She was predeceased by her husband, Jim; a daughter, Mary; and a grandson, Scott Turner.

She is survived by a daughter, Martha Turner of New Ulm, Tex.; and a grandson.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 21 in First Baptist Church in Dierks. Burial followed in County Line cemetery near Nashville, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

Doris Cross

Doris Keller Cross, of Foreman, was united with her heavenly Father, Sunday, May 23, 2004, at the age of 83.

She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She was born March 12, 1921 in Foreman. She was a homemaker and a member of the First United Methodist Church in Foreman.

Mrs. Cross was preceded in death by her husband, William Richard Cross, who died on December 31, 2000; her parents, Lawrence and Birdie Johnson Keller; and one sister, Ruth Altenbaumer.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rhonda and Gordon Allen of Texarkana, Texas; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Beulah Edington of Dallas, Texas and Eunice and Lloyd Smith of Foreman; one brother and sister-in-law, Dallas and Ada Ruth Keller of Foreman, three grandchildren, Richard Allen and wife, Rhonda, Andy Allen and Jessica Allen; four great-grandchildren, Hayley Allen, Blake Allen, Tyler Allen, and Lacy Parker; and several nieces and nephews.

A service was held in celebration of her life, Thursday, May 27, 2004, at 2:00 p.m. in the First United Methodist Church in Foreman with Rev. James Shaddox and Rev. James Huges officiating. Burial followed in the Gravelly cemetery, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in De Queen.

Viewing was from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27 at the church.

Mary Lou Yeargan

Mary Lou Yeargan, age 68, of De Queen, died Saturday, March 20, 2004.

She was born on December 13, 1935, the daughter of Willie A. Shaw and Della Eunice Turner Shaw. On August 19, 1955, she was married to Larry Steve Yeargan who preceded her in death on December 1, 1997. She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Delayne Rae Yeargan.

She was a retired certified nurses aide and a member of the New Hope Freewill Baptist Church. She enjoyed her children, grand-children and visiting with friends.

She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Tammy Yeargan of Houston, Texas, Jeffrey L. and Shiela Yeargan of Eagletown, Oklahoma and Tim and Dana Yeargan of Mineral Springs; eleven grandchildren; four brothers, Elton "Bud" Shaw of Umpire, Joel Shaw and Charles Shaw, both of Newhope and Jerry Shaw of Lockesburg; and many nieces and nephews.

Services were held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 22, 2004 in the Newhope Freewill Baptist Church with Bros. Raymond Dees and Keith Rowton officiating.

Interment was in the Bear Creek cemetery under the direction of Davis-Smith Funeral Home, Glenwood.

Pallbearers were Brad Garner, Kenny Fant, Ricky Shaw, Jim Cook, Mike Hubbard and Tony Kirkpatrick.

Gertrude Novell Moss

Mrs. Gertrude Novell Rink Moss, age 86, resident of Murfreesboro, and formerly of De Queen, died Monday, April 5, 2004 in Murfreesboro.

She was born Jan. 31, 1918 in De Queen to Frank McIntosh Rink and Annie Estella Miller Rink; was an active member of Union Community Home Demonstration Club; and was the Union Community correspondent for the De Queen Bee during the 1950’s and 60’s. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband, Grover C. Moss; a son, Pat Lee Moss; four brothers, Charley, Walter, Albert and Virgil Rink; and two sisters, Junie Combs and Ruth Estella Johnson.

She is survived by four sons, Gerald and Freddy Moss of Murfreesboro, Frank Moss of Charlotte, NC, and Walter Moss of Houston, Tex.; one daughter, Felicia Foust of Clinton, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; four foster grandchildren; and eight foster great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, April 8 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Oscar Ball officiating. Burial followed in Chapel Hill cemetery.

The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, April 7 at the funeral home.

Elsie Ward

Elsie Ward, age 83, resident of Dierks, died Friday, April 2, 2004 in a Nashville hospital.

She was born May 25, 1920 at Kirby to the late Johnny and Mattie Smalling Foshee; was a retired employee of De Queen General Hospital; and a Baptist. She was predeceased by her husband, William Floyd Ward; a daughter, Brenda Kay Ward; and a son, Jimmy Terrell Ward.

She is survived by a son, Wayne Ward of Dierks; a sister, Jo Kyzer of Mesquite, Tex.; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 5 in Dierks First Assembly of God Church with Bro. Henry Bateman officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer cemetery under the direction of Latimer Funeral Home of Nashville.
