John Lewis Davis

John Lewis Davis, age 80, a resident of Dierks, died Thur., April 24, 2003 in the Howard County Memorial Hospital.

Graveside funeral services for Mr. Davis were held at 3:30 p.m., Sat., April 26 in the Dierks cemetery with Rev. J.W. Gilbert officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home in Dierks.

He was born March 12, 1923 in Crosbyton, Texas to John B. and Glennie Teague Davis. He was a construction worker, a retired employee of the Dierks Water Department and a Baptist.

He was predeceased by a daughter, Joyce Davis Lott.

He is survived by his wife, Doris Moore Davis; one son, Johnny Davis of Dierks; two sisters, Delma Cochran of Cordell, Okla. and Faye Dayberry of Nashville, Ark.; one brother, Emmett Davis of Wichita Falls, Texas; eight grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Fri., April 25 at the funeral home in Dierks.

Ruby Orick Robbins

Ruby Orick Robbins, age 93, resident of Houston, Texas and formerly of De Queen, died Sat., April 19, 2003 in Houston.

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Robbins were held at 10 a.m. Sat., April 26, 2003 in the Redmen cemetery with Rev. Harold Brewer officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

She was born Aug. 19, 1909 in Gurty, Okla. She was a homemaker and a member of the Kern Heights Baptist Church.

She was predeceased by her husband, Glen Gardner Robbins.

She is survived by one son, George Berry Robbins of Houston, Texas; four granddaughters and six great-grandchildren.

The family received friends from 6-8 p.m., Fri., April 25 at the Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Frank Peeples Kornegay

Frank Peeples Kornegay, age 83, resident of Desert Rose, Ariz., and formerly of Horatio, died Saturday, April 12, 2003 in Yuma Regional Medical Center.

Graveside memorial service will be held Sun., April 27 at 1 p.m. at West Otis cemetery, with Rev. Fred Smith officiating.

Burial was in Horatio. There was an open house for friends of the Kornegay family Saturday, April 19 from 2 until 5 p.m. at the home of Ord and Claudia Cox, 1/2 miles south of 32nd Street on 5-1/2 E, next to Country Roads RV Park.

He was born June 17, 1919 in Deming, NM, to Robert and Claudia Kornegay; served in World War II; served in the Peace Corps in Santiago, Chili for three years; retired in Horatio then returned to Yuma. He was predeceased by a daughter, Charlotte; and grandson Michael Thomas.

He is survived by his wife, Sammy Lou Kornegay of the home; one son, Robert Kornegay of Kilgore, Tex.; two daughters, Claudia Cox of Yuma, Ariz., and Elizabeth Warren of Soper, Okla.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Alvin Lem Hutson

Alvin Lem Hutson, age 77, of Arkadelphia, died Tues., April 22, 2003 at the Baptist Medical Center in Little Rock.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Thurs., April 24 at the Odd Fellows cemetery near Lockesburg, with Rev. James Guthrie officiating. Interment will be under the direction of the Ruggles-Wilcox Funeral Home of Arkadelphia.

He was born Aug. 19, 1925 in Wilton, the son of the late Alvin L. and Edith Mewhinney Hutson. He was a mechanic and a WWII Navy veteran. He was predeceased by his first wife, Faye Pettigrew.

Survivors include his wife, Peggy Hutson; one son, Alvin Larry Hutson of Falls Chapel; one daughter, Lila Jane Reeves of Mena; one brother, Nelvin Friday of Lonoke; two sisters, Nan Goodman of Heber Springs and Eris Lipscomb of Searcy; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnie Irvan

Mrs. Johnie Mae Bell Irvan, age 84, a resident of Dallas, Tex., and a native of De Queen, died Saturday, April 19, 2003 in the Trinity Medical Center in Dallas.

She was born on February 11, 1919 in De Queen to John C. and Benjamin Char-lotta Stout Bell. She was a retired nurses assistant and a Baptist. In her younger years she and her husband drove trucks together.

Mrs. Irvan was preceded in death by her husband: Henry William Irvan on Feb-ruary 16, 1985; and two sisters: Hazel Davis and Gracie Bly.

She is held in loving memory by her survivors: one daughter and son-in-law, Judy and Orville Booth of Dallas, Tex.; a grandson: Barron Booth of Denton, Tex.; a granddaughter: Athena Booth Clarkin of Philadelphia, Pa.; three nieces: Carolyn Pope of Broken Bow, Okla., Brenda Trejo of Lone Star, Tex., and Shirley Jones of Ashdown, Ark.; one nephew: Billy Jack Davis of Texarkana, Ark.; one step-son: James Williams Irvan; and many other loving grandchildren.

She will be missed.

Funeral services for Mrs. Irvan were held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, April 26, 2003 in the Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Jeter officiating. Burial followed in the Clear Creek cemetery in Horatio.

Dorsey Betts

Dorsey Edward Betts, age 78, a resident of Texarkana, Ark., and formerly of Hope and De Queen died Sunday, April 20, 2003 at his home.

He was born September 13, 1924, in Hope, Ark., to Ruel and Willie Hamner Betts. He was a retired street superintendent with the city of Texarkana and a former city manager in De Queen, Ark. He was a Baptist, a member of VFW Post 4562 in Texarkana, a member of AARP, and past president of the Texas Loyal Order of the Moose.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Lou Fuller Betts, and one sister, Velma Garrett.

He is survived by two sons: David Edward Betts of Waldorf, Md., and Michael Allen Betts of Houston, Tex.; two daughters: Mary Elizabeth Snider of De Queen, Ark. and Martha Luellen Russell of Texarkana, Tex.; five grandchildren: Steven Edward Betts of Schenectady, N.Y., April Sky Russell Smith of Texarkana, Tex., Jennifer Betts of Waldorf, Md., Taylor Marie Russell of Tex-arkana, Tex., and Matthew Edward Betts of Houston, Tex.; and one great-grandson: Nathan Smith of Texarkana, Tex.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, April 24, 2003, at Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home Chapel in Hope with Rev. Mark Markle officiating. Burial followed in New Hope cemetery in Patmos, Ark. Arrangements were under the direction of the Brazzel/Oakcrest Funeral Home, Hope, Ark.

The family received friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2003, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Dorles Marie Yandell

Mrs. Dorles Marie Chandler Yandell, age 68, resident of the Westline Community of Sevier County, died Sun. April 20, 2003 in the Christus St. Michael Hospital, Texarkana.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tues., April 22 in the Westline Free Holiness Church with Bro. Charles Chandler, Bro. Tracy Welch, Bro. Dale Crawford and Bro. Billy Don Weeks officiating. Burial followed in the Chapel Hill cemetery under the direction of Chandler Funeral Home of De Queen.

She was born Nov. 2, 1934 to Clarence and Mary Allen Chandler in the Westline Community, was a member of the Westline Free Holiness Church; was an employee of the Southwest Arkansas Development Council, and was a homemaker.

She was predeceased by her husband, James Thomas Yandell in 1990.

She is survived by three sons, Russell Yandell and Waylon Yandell of Westline, and Brian Yandell of Umpire; one daughter, Patricia Frady of Westline; four brothers, Clyde Chandler and Charles Chandler of Westline, Jimmy Chandler or Idabel, Okla., and Randy Chandler of New Boston, Texas; two sisters, Laura Nelson of Bardwell, Ky. and Glenda Johnson of Tom, Okla.; fourteen grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Mon., April 21, 2003 at the Chandler Funeral Home.

David Stepp

David Stepp, age 73, died Sat., April 19, 2003 in Mena.

Funeral services were Tues., April 22, 2003 at 10 a.m. in the Beasley-Wood Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Austin Emery officiating. Interment will follow in the Chapel Hill cemetery in De Queen under the direction of the Beasley-wood Funeral Home of Mena.

He was born Feb. 23, 1930 in Cerro Gordo, Okla. to the late John Arthur Stepp and the late Pearley May McBride Stepp. He was married to Inez Henderson, was a mill worker and a member of the Church of Christ.

He was predeceased by his parents; one daughter, Kathy Lavon Handshaw; 5 brothers, Paul Stepp, Otis Stepp, Willard Stepp, Johnny Stepp and Jimmy Stepp.

He is survived by his wife, Inez Stepp of Mena; two sons, Glen Stepp of Mena and Gary Stepp of Broken Bow, Okla.; one brother, Wayne Stepp; one sister, Lounell Stepp; seven grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, seven step children, and a number of step grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
