Luther C. Williamson
Luther C. Williamson, age 85, resident of De Queen, died Friday, Dec. 3, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
He was born April 5, 1919 to Emmett A. and Lillie Chronister Williamson; was an Army veteran of World War II; retired from Weyerhaeuser Treating Plant with 30 years of service; a farmer; and a member of First Baptist Church of De Queen.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Carl; a sister, Blanche; and his wife, Lorene Phillips Williamson.
He is survived by one son, Wayne Williamson of De Queen; one daughter, Judy Bloesch of Lockesburg; one brother, Owen Williamson of De Queen; three sisters, Nadine Breeland of Kemp, Tex., Shirley Van Voast of De Queen, and Mary Jane Tallant of Seagonville, Tex.; three grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6 in Chandler Funeral Home Chapel with Lyndon Fenton officiating. Burial will follow in Chapel Hill cemetery.

Maria Thereze DeCosta
Maria Thereze DeCosta, age 56, resident of Idabel, Okla., died Thursday, Dec. 3, 2004 in McCurtain Memorial Hospital.
She was born Sept. 18, 1948 in Albuquerque, NM, to Zane and Lottie Mae Tugman; enjoyed playing pool, playing the harmonica; and being with family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Zane Tugman Jr.
She is survived by one son, Michael Cagle of Redfield; three daughters, Tina Chandler of Ashdown, Tammie Crumpton of Foreman and Tonya Kretzer of Idabel, Okla.; two brothers, Gary Tugman of Garden Grove, Calif., and Joe Tugman of Idabel, Okla.; three sisters, Judy Downy and Elizabeth Stiegler, both of Garden Grove, Calif., and Nancy Sullivan of De Queen; and nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 in Chandler Funeral Home, De Queen.

Ricky Thomas Swindler
Ricky Thomas Swindler, died Sept. 25, 2004 in Durango, Colo.
Memorial services were held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23 in Primitive Baptist Church, Marlow, Okla.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Nora and Richard “Bud” Swindler of Gillham, Ida Lou and Woodrow Cook of Marlow, Okla.; one brother, Danny Swindler of Comanche, Okla.; one nephew, Raymond Rightmire of De Queen, and one stepbrother, Brian Nunley of Duncan, Okla.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Fern and Randy Nunley of Duncan, Okla.; his father, Clifford Swindler of Mena; one brother, Billie Gillespie of Comanche, Okla.; two sisters, Lisa Swindler of Sacramento, Calif., and Christie Lei of Mena; three sons, Clifford Swindler of Comanche, Okla., Nicky Todd Swindler of Iowa, and Ricky Joe Swindler of Russellville; three grandsons; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Earnest L. Gore
Earnest L. Gore, age 81, resident of Ashdown, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004.
He was a lifetime member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church; an elder at Camden Cumberland Presbyterian Chur-ch; a school board member in the Camden Fairview school district; an Army veteran receiving a purple heart and a bronze star; a moderator of Arkansas synod; and was retired from International Paper after 35 years of service.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Elizabeth Gore; three sons, Thomas Leon Gore of Gillham, Terry Alan Gore of Pineville, La., and Larry Joe Gore of Benton; two daughters, Elizabeth Ann Launius of Ashdown and Debra Sue Gore of Saratoga; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 7 in Madden Funeral Home Chapel at Ashdown. Burial followed in Millwee cemetery.

Edna Catherine Axton
Edna Catherine Axton, age 92, resident of Dierks, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 in Howard Memorial Hospital at Nashville.
She was born July 5, 1912 in Dierks to John and Betty Potts Axton; was a retired nurse; and a member of First Assembly of God Church in Dierks.
She is survived by a sister, Oma James of Dierks; and a number of nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10 in First Assembly of God Church in Dierks with Rev. Henry Bateman officiating. Burial followed in Dierks cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home of Dierks.
The family received friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 at the Dierks Chapel.

Orval Cash Guire
Mr. Orval Cash Guire, age 71, a resident of Gillham, Ark., died Tuesday, December 7, 2004 in Hot Springs.
He was born March 30, 1933 in Gillham to David William and Annie Levina Oliver Guire. He was a pulpwood hauler and made his living with a chainsaw, and was an Army veteran.
He is survived by four children, Douglas Edward Guire of Gillham, Randall Lee Guire of De Queen, Laura Ann Leach of Gillham, and Michael Wayne Guire of Gillham; nine brothers and sisters, Muriel Fasold of Carson City, Nev., Austin Guire of Jacksonville, Fla., Myrtle Johnston of Fayetteville, Ark., Chester Guire of Carson City, Nev., Russell and Gloria Guire of Alma, Wisc., Raymond and Sue Guire of Pahrump, Nev., Alma Kitchens of Fayetteville, Ark., Patrick and Joette Guire of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Donald and Lorene Guire of Cloverdale, Calif.; five granddaughters; one great-granddaughter; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services for Mr. Guire were held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, December 11, 2004 in the Cossatot cemetery with Stephen Chenoweth officiating, under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.
The family received friends from 6-8 p.m. Friday, December 10, 2004 at the funeral home.

Janet Renee Tipton
Mrs. Janet Renee Turner Tipton, age 51, resident of Dierks, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 at her home.
She was born July 29, 1953 in Dierks to Eule “Rusty” and Maudie Nadine Sherman Turner; was a homemaker; and a member of Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Dierks.
She is survived by her husband, Dennis Tipton of Dierks; a son, Corey Tipton of Ashdown; a daughter, Tabitha Richards of Dierks; her mother, Nadine Turner of Dierks; a sister, Shirley Chambers of Pine Bluff; and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 10 in Holly Creek Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Albritton and Rev. Mac Chambers officiating. Burial followed in Dierks cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home, Dierks.
The family received friends from 2 to 4 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 at the Dierks Chapel.

Mamie Ester Barnes
Mamie Ester Wyss Barnes, age 101, resident of Gillham, died Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004 in De Queen Regional Medical Center.
She was born Monday, Dec. 29, 1902 in Green Bluff, Wash., to John and May Ann Sample Wyss; worked for the U.S. Postal Service; was a homemaker; a member of First Baptist Church in Gillham; and the Eastern Star #542 Gillham Chapter.
She was preceded in death by her husband, John Thomas Barnes in 1977; three brothers; and one sister.
She is survived by two daughters, Iserella Barnes Hudson of Dallas, Tex., and Gloria Louise Barnes of Warrenton, Ore.; three grandsons; three great-grandsons; and two great-great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 in First Baptist Church in Gillham with Rev. Bob McManus officiating. Burial will follow in Gillham cemetery under the direction of Wilkerson Funeral Home.

Floyd Roy Nichols
Floyd Roy Nichols of Texarkana, Texas, and formerly of De Queen, Arkansas, passed away in his sleep at home on November 19, 2004.
Mr. Nichols was born on October 15, 1902 in Gillham, Arkansas. He left home at the age of 14 to work in the oil fields in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Smackover, Arkansas to help support his mother and younger siblings. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1926, and served on the U.S.S. Mississippi and U.S.S. Idaho. He married Willa Mae Brown in 1931, and they returned to De Queen, Arkansas after he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 1934.
Mr. Nichols owned and operated the Mobile Oil Wholesale distributorship in De Queen for many years. He was a deacon at the First Baptist Church, and formerly served on the De Queen School Board and Salvation Army Board. He also served as the Sevier County Civil Defense Director and in the Rotary Club. Mr. Nichols lived a full and wonderful life, and he will be missed by his friends and family.
Mr. Nichols is preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Willa Mae Brown Nichols, (1913-1999).
He is survived by his daughter, Janice Gail Nichols Thomas and her husband, Gerald Edwin Thomas of Texarkana, Arkansas; a granddaughter, Angela Gae Thomas Campbell and her husband, Matthew Campbell of Longbeach, Mississippi; a grandson, Jason Nichols Thomas and his wife, Michelle Vukasin Thomas of Roanoke, Texas; one great-granddaughter, Sarah Kate Campbell; three great-grandsons, John Thomas Campbell, Pryor Nichols Thomas and Clayton Reed Thomas; a sister-in-law, Ethel Lipscomb; and numerous friends and relatives.
Visitation was at Wilkerson Funeral Home on November 22, 2004 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. in De Queen, Arkansas, followed by graveside services at Redman cemetery in De Queen, Arkansas at 12:30 p.m.
A memorial service was conducted in the Chapel at the Cornerstone Retirement Center in Texarkana, Texas at 3:30 p.m. on Monday, November 22, 2004. Rev. Steve Martin of Flippin, Arkansas conducted the service.
