Pauline Patterson

Mrs. Pauline M. Patterson, age 81, of Cherokee Village, died Saturday, June 14, 2008, in Salem.

Pauline retired from Jewel Food Stores.

She is survived by her husband Bob Patterson; One Daughter, Pauline Deckard of Wisconsin; One Son, Robert Patterson of Pennsylvania; and One Sister, Esta Bennett of Cherokee Village.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday June 24 at 10:30 AM in the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL with arrangements by O’Neil Funeral Home of Lockport, IL.

Gloria L. Tomberlin

Mrs. Gloria Louise Tomberlin, 74, of Cherokee Village, died Saturday, June 21, 2008, at her home. Gloria was a devoted wife and mother.

She was the daughter of the late Frank Sosa and the late Lela (Yslava) Sosa.

She was preceded in death by her husband Donnie Tomberlin.

She is survived by two Daughters: Reynee Birdsell and Rhonda Tomberlin of Cherokee Village; Four Sisters: Yvonne Cadena, Barbara Polak and Lela George of California and Deloris Manassee of Texas; One Brother Frank Sosa Jr. of California. She is also survived by Three grandchildren and Four great-grandchildren

A funeral service will be in Heath Oak Hill Chapel at 3:00 PM Wednesday, June 25 with Andrew Birdsell officiating. Interment will follow in the Bronaugh Cemetery in Hardy.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM Tuesday, June 24.

Helga Anna Helfrich

Mrs. Helga Anna Helfrich, age 78, of Hardy, died Monday, June 2, 2008 at her home.

Helga was born in East Prussia to Emma Selma Bendig and Karl Weinstein on March 29, 1930. She met her future husband, Werner Helfrich, in the German Black Forrest refugee camp in 1950; in January 1955 Helga and Werner traveled to Canada and were married on February 9, 1955. Helga and Werner along with their two children, Karen and Wilfred, moved to Michigan in 1963. Werner passed away in 1978.

Helga worked in the automobile industry and retired from General Motors, she moved to Hardy in 1995.

Helga first attempted to obtain U.S. citizenship in 1974 but had to drop the issue due to her husband’s health, she tried again in 1987 and in 1995, but each time the people trying to help her did not follow through. Finally with the help of her friends Helga became a United States citizen on November 15, 2006.

Helga was a member of the Hardy Church of Christ and loved to play the accordion. She could be found many days playing her accordion in front of the shops along Main Street Hardy or playing in a duo with her partner at the local senior center and nursing homes.

She is survived by One Daughter Karen Helfrich of San Bruno, California and One Son, Wilfred "Will" Helfrich of Oxford, Michigan. She is also survived by two Sisters, Gerda Lohse and Anneliese Korte both in Germany and two grandchildren.

A memorial service will be at the Hardy Gym at 2:00 PM Wednesday, with Rev. Charles Babb officiating.

Jerry L. Davis

Jerry Lavern Davis, of Cherokee Village passed away Monday night March 10, 2008, at his home at the age of 61.

Jerry was born in Witchita Falls, Texas.

Jerry held a specialist degree and was a reptologist for over 40 years and worked at the Little Rock Zoo.

He is survived by his mother Ruth Davis and one sister Rose Lam both of Cherokee Village; two daughters: Michelle Lynn Hubbard and Shannon Lynn Davis both of Jonesboro; eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

He will be greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held at Heath Oak Hill Chapel at 10:00 AM, Friday March 14, 2008, with the Rev. Bob and Rev. Kay Burton officiating.

Julia Boettger

Mrs. Julia E. Boettger, age 92, of Cherokee Village, died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at White River Medical Center in Batesville, AR. She was a Homemaker and loved art work.

She was the daughter of the late Peter Charbarneau and the late Edna O'tonna (McRill) Chamberneau.

Julia is survived by: one Daughter, Beverly Littlefield of Waukesha, WI, one step Daughter Alice Grant of Milwaukee, WI, a son Robert Myers of Cherokee Village and a step son Thomas Boettger of Greenfield, WI. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 33 great grand children and 5 great great grandchildren.

A Rosary service will be held on Friday, July 18th at 10:30 AM. A memorial Mass will follow at 11:00 AM both at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Cherokee Village with Fr. Tom Marks celebrating.

Kenneth Franklin King

Kenneth Franklin King, age 77, of Cherokee Village, died Tuesday, March 4, 2008, at the Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Ash Flat, Arkansas surrounded by the love of his family.

Kenneth was born on January 12, 1931 Rector Arkansas to Jewell King and Marie (Duffel) King. Kenneth graduated from Rector High School in 1949 and Later that year married Mary Virginia Morris on August 6, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan, while Kenneth was working at the Cadillac Motor Company. Kenneth entered into the U.S. Army in 1952and was stationed at Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri where he served as a Drill Instructor/Drill Sergeant. After finishing his service in the Army Kenneth returned to Arkansas and earned his accounting degree from Arkansas State University in May of 1959.

Kenneth moved his family to Hardy, Arkansas in 1959 and worked as an accountant for Ralph Johnson in the Hidden Valley Development Company. Kenneth served as the General Manager for the Woodland Hills Development Company until 1962. In 1963 Kenneth established the King Agency Real Estate which provided real estate, insurance and accounting services. King Agency Real Estate remained in business in the same location for 31 years from 1963 until 1992, when Kenneth entered into business with Ron Rhodes and started the King Rhodes Real Estate business. Kenneth continued with the business until he retired in 1996.

Kenneth was a well known figure in both business and civic affairs in Sharp County as well as the surrounding region. He served as a Director on the Board of First National Bank in Batesville, Arkansas; a Director of the area Boy Scouts of America and was one of the original members of the Board of Directors for the Eastern Ozarks Hospital in Cherokee Village. Kenneth was active in helping establish the Chamber of Commerce in the Spring River area. He served on the Finance Committee at the First Baptist Church of Hardy, where he and his family were members. Kenneth was also very involved in the activities of the Highland School system, where he worked for many years with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and served on the Highland School Board.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Virginia (Morris) King of Cherokee Village; his mother, Marie (Duffel) Blan and step-father, Fred Blan; and a brother, Miles King.

He is survived by his three children: Kevin King and wife Lita; Deanna (King) Strobbe and husband Greg; and Joel King and wife Kim, all of Highland; Six grandchildren, including Kara (King) McEntire and husband Jeff, Brett Strobbe, Erika King, Kolby King, Preston King and Landon Strobbe; great-grandchildren Kenzie McEntire and Mallory McEntire (and a third great-grandchild due in April).

Kenneth is also survived by a step-sister Martha Dean Wilson of Paragould and a sister-in-law Reba (Morris) Nolen of Marmaduke.

Pallbearers are Brett Strobbe, Kolby King, Preston King, Jeff McEntire and Kerry Evans.

Honorary Pallbearers are Linn Garner, Max Hill, Ronnie Qualls, Allie McBride, Donna Kelly, Dana Murphy, Paul Stovall, Jim Counts, Henry Gschwend, Karen Taylor and the Staff of Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Services will take place at the First Baptist Church of Hardy at 1:00 PM Friday, March 7, 2008, with Bro. Ferrell Duffel of Manila officiating. Interment will be in the Oaklawn Cemetery in Highland.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 PM Thursday at First Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to: Sharp County Community Foundation at either FNBC, P.O. Box 8 Ash Flat, AR 72513 or Liberty Bank, 1927 US Hwy 62-412, Hardy, AR 72542

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of Eaglecrest Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for their compassionate and loving care.
