Leona Shearer
August 3, 1923 - April 25, 2012

ZEDA LEONA SHEARER, 88, of Austin, Arkansas, changed her residence from earth to Heaven on April 25, 2012. She was born August 3, 1923, in Brumett, AR and was a member of the Assembly of God Church. She was preceded in death by her 1st husband, Ernest Gregory and 2nd husband Rev. Preston Shearer, parents Rob and Barbara Herring and 8 siblings, Son, Clifton Eugene Gregory and Step Son Danny Shearer.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Bill Gregory and wife, Marilyn of Austin, AR; Cliff Gregory and wife, Mary of Jacksonville, AR. and Lenora Shearer of Cabot, AR.; Three step children; Dathel Balch and husband, Bob of Clewiston, FL., Maradean Jarrett of Searcy, AR., and Janet Matlock and husband, Donnie of Fort Smith, AR.; 14 Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.

Visitation will be 6:00–8:00 pm, Friday, April 27, 2012 at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 28 at the funeral home. Officiating will be Pastor Happy Caldwell and Pastor David Harper. Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery , Cabot, AR.

Faye N. Mayfield
January 8, 1938 - April 23, 2012

Faye N. Mayfield, 74, of Cabot died Monday, April 23, 2012. She was born January 8, 1938 in Thornton to the late Benjamin F. and Dora Dean Nutt. Mrs. Mayfield was a member of Victory Baptist Church in Cabot and was a Merchandising Assistant for J.C. Penney for 25 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd D. Mayfield and a brother, James R. Nutt.

Mrs. Mayfield is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Mayfield and Melinda Bardwell, both of Cabot and her sisters, Margaret Colvert of Orlando, Florida and Patsy Roberts of West Monroe, Louisiana.

Visitation will be from 4:00 to 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home (501)843-5816. Graveside services will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Lillian Viola Besancon
January 2, 1918 - April 22, 2012

Lillian Viola Besancon, 94, of Cabot died Sunday, April 22, 2012. She was born January 2, 1918 in Cabot, Arkansas to the late Henry and Viola Sailor Spires. Mrs. Besancon was a resident of Cabot Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Lillian began working at the Jacksonville Ordinance Plant in 1943, making ammunition during World War II. She later retired from Franklin Electric after 37 years of service. After retirement, she was actively involved with the Senior Citizen Center. Family and friends will always remember her wonderful fried chicken and homemade pies. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Besancon was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Howard Besancon; sister, Mary McMillan and her husband, Paul; brother, William Henry Spires; and granddaughter Deborah Elaine Besancon.

She is survived by her two sons, Harold Besancon and his wife, Kathy and Wayne Besancon and his wife, Dianne; four grandchildren, Virginia Besancon, Shelly and her husband, Jason Morden, Heather and her husband, Shane Morden, and Lane Blaylock; six great grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

A visitation will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 25, 2012 in the chapel of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home, with services immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery.

Marion Dewey Poole
June 28, 1945 - April 18, 2012

Marion Dewey Poole, 66, of Cabot, died Wednesday, April 18, 2012. He was born June 28, 1945 in Newport, to the late Marion and Ethel Mae Young Poole. Mr. Poole served in the United States Air Force as a small arms instructor before becoming an air traffic controller. During his tenure with the USAF, he received a Commendation Medal, an Achievement Medal and a Good Conduct Medal. After his retirement from the Air Force, he continued working and later retired from the FAA at Little Rock National Airport. Mr. Poole enjoyed horses, shooting sports and spending time with his grandchildren. He also enjoyed motorcycles and flying and was a licensed pilot. In addition to his parents, Mr. Poole was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Gann and a grandson, Greg Iosbaker.

Mr. Poole is survived by his wife Edie Thompson Poole; his children, Kim Hodges of Searcy, Pam Iosbaker of Anchorage, Alaska, Kay Bodan and Shane Phillips, Sr., both of Cabot. Also surviving him are his four grandchildren, Nichole Payne, Stephen Atwell, Shane Phillips II and Fischer Hodges, one great granddaughter, Emma Payne and one brother, Howard Poole of Russell.

A time of visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, April 23, 2012 followed by a memorial service beginning at 6:00 p.m. in the chapel of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home (501)843-5816.

Forrest Andrew Cook
March 1, 1945 - April 15, 2012

Forrest Andrew “Johnny” Cook, 67, passed away Sunday, April 15, 2012. He was born March 1, 1945 in North Little Rock to the late Homer and Ernestine Perry Cook. Mr. Cook served in the U.S. Navy as a cook and later returned to Vietnam as a civilian to work in the supply chain for Dyna Electronics. He loved his animals and was always willing to help others. Mr. Cook played a large role in raising his great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Sybil Joann Cook and Janice Ware.

Mr. Cook is survived by two brothers, Eugene Cook of Seattle, Washington and Jewel Cook of Ward as well as a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. The family would like to extend a special thank-you to the staff of Madison Health and Rehab Center and Arkansas Hospice for their wonderful care.

Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012 at Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home (501)843-5816, followed by a graveside service at 11:30 a.m. at Mount Carmel Cemetery.

Mary Frances Smith
December 16, 1937 - April 14, 2012

Mary Westfall Smith, 74, of Cabot died Saturday, April 14, 2012, after her battle with cancer. She was born December 16, 1937 in Dade City, Florida to the late Woodrow Thomas and Evelyn Odema Burkhead Huffstutler. Mrs. Smith was a secretary and after retirement, she continued to serve as a caregiver for the elderly. She was a member of Cabot Apostolic Church. Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by three husbands, William Rock LaFave, Clifford M. Westfall and Marion D. Smith as well as a brother, Victor Huffstutler, a grandson, Anthony LaFave and a nephew Scott McKinzie.

Mrs. Smith is survived by two children, Tom LaFave (Debi) of Austin and Mary Westfall Cain (Thomas) of Azle, Texas; one sister, Barbara McKinzie (Jerry) of Conway; one niece, Jan Lester (Nathan) of Conway and three grandchildren, Ryan LaFave, Andrea LaFave and Morgan Cain.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Monday April 16, 2012 in the chapel of Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Cabot Apostolic Church with Pastors D.C. Moody and Larry Pearce officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Cemetery in Conway. Arrangements are by Moore’s Cabot Funeral Home, (501) 843-5816.
