Tuffy McConnell
July 18, 1939 - July 22, 2018

Tuffy McConnell, age 79, of Mena, Arkansas, died Sunday, July 22, 2018 at the family farm in Mena. He was born on Tuesday, July 18, 1939 to Charley and Bertha May Casey McConnell in Henrietta, Oklahoma.

Tuffy believed family came first and was always there for them. He loved to talk and never met a stranger. He was a drywall finisher for over 35 years where he worked with his boys and family. Tuffy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and a great friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Buford McConnell and two sisters, Joyce Garland and Shirley Mizner.

Tuffy is survived by his wife of 37 years, Pat McConnell of Mena; his sons and daughters in law, Danny and Mona McConnell of Mena and Charley and Cathy McConnell of Mena; two daughters and son in law, Cindy and Scott Ely of Temecula, California and Carla Rendon of Waldron; his sister, Wanda Bush of Bakersfield, California; eight grandchildren; three great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Friday, July 27, 2018 at 10:00 A.M. at the Church of God on Highway 88 East. Interment will follow in the Pinecrest Memorial Park in Mena. Visitation will be Thursday, July 26, 2018 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Pallbearers are Danny McConnell, Charley McConnell, Scott Ely, Brandon McConnell, Connor McConnell, Aaron McConnell and Wilbert Yocum.

Betty Ruth Smith
June 29, 1931 - November 20, 2011

Betty Ruth Smith, age 80, of Wickes, died Sunday, November 20, 2011 at her home. She was born on Monday, June 29, 1931 to William Walter and Mary Etta Adams Griffith in Henrietta, Texas.

Betty was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved spending time with her family and loved living life to the fullest. Betty was in law enforcement for 25 years as a Deputy Sheriff and Dispatch in Sevier County and Little River County. She was very proud of this accomplishment. Betty enjoyed the great outdoors and going fishing. She also enjoyed reading and watching her deer off her front porch.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband Sam Sellers Jr.; her second husband Walter Cox; her third husband Robert Smith; one son Samuel Paul Sellers Sr.; one grandson Samuel Weston Green; eleven brothers and sisters.

Survivors include three daughters, Pamala Robbins and husband, Rodger of Grannis, Penny Kesterson and husband Bassil of Wickes and Barbara Manshack of Wickes; nine grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A private graveside services will be held Wednesday, November 23, 2011 at the Mountain Springs Resting Place, west of Grannis. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 22, 2011 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena.

Pallbearers will be Bassil Kesterson, Paul Sellers, Brandon Courtney, Blake Reel, Austin Miller and Dood Baker.

Stephen Douglas Barney
February 11, 1936 - November 24, 2011

Stephen Douglas Barney, age 75, of Cherry Hill, died Thursday, November 24, 2011 at the Arkansas Heart Hospital in Little Rock. He was born on Tuesday, February 11, 1936 to Stephen Julius and Dorothy Ernestine Schlie Barney in Rockford, Illinois.

Stephen was a devout Christian and served his Lord at the Cherry Hill Baptist Church where he also taught Sunday school and was on the Building and Grounds Committee. He loved his family and his church family very much. In 1975, Stephen and his wife Carol moved to Cherry Hill from Belvidere, Illinois. Stephen retired from Woodward Governor to the family farm to raise cattle and chickens. Stephen loved learning; he constantly had a book open or was taking courses on a wide variety of topics. Some of Stephen’s hobbies included reading, astronomy, meteorology, woodworking, hunting, fishing and trapping. Stephen was a loving husband, father, grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his loving wife of 56 years, Carol Mae LaBuy Barney of the home; two sons and daughters in laws, Daniel Lee and Jody Barney of Huntsville, Alabama and Stephen Andrew and Joy Barney of Cherry Hill; two daughters, Sandra L. Ward of Monroe, Wisconsin and Jill Annette Cabello and husband Juan of Cherry Hill, four sisters, Rosalie Lewis of Sacramento, California, Patricia McCulley of Yocana, Helen Velmers of Cherry Hill and Merrie Lawrence of Marietta, Georgia; twelve grandchildren, Nathaniel Barney of Cherry Hill, New Jersey, Allison Barney of Nashville, Tennessee, Adam Barney of Huntsville, Alabama, Jonathan Ward and Timothy Ward both of Monroe, Wisconsin, Misti Clark of Bryant, Arkansas, Phillip Savage of Sallisaw, Oklahoma, Christopher Grimes of Rantoul, Illinois, Jordan Barney, Bethany Barney, Eden Barney and Keilah Barney all of Cherry Hill; five great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 28, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Cherry Hill Baptist Church with Brother Grant Geiger officiating. Interment will follow in the Cherry Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, November 27, 2011 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena.

Pallbearers will be Adam Barney, Jonathan Ward, Timothy Ward, Phillip Savage, Kevin Clark and Michael Floyd.

Memorial can be made to the Cherry Hill Baptist Church Building Fund, 411 Polk 72, Mena, Arkansas 71953.

Sondra Kay Harvey
August 16, 1954 - October 3, 2020

Sondra Kay Harvey, age 66, of Acorn, Arkansas, died Saturday, October 3, 2020 at her home. She was born Monday, August 16, 1954 to Herman Lee and Julia Ann Knox Hill in Black Fork, Arkansas.

Kay was a woman that loved the Lord and her family. She was of the Baptist faith and was saved at a young age. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and singing and listening to music. Kay enjoyed watching the deer and birds from her front porch. She also enjoyed watching western movies. She was an excellent cook and her family loved her waffles and especially her desserts, her Brown and Yellow Pies. Kay loved her Arkansas Razorback Football team. Kay was a loving mother, sister, Gran, aunt and friend and will be missed dearly by all who knew her.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Rocky Harvey; two brothers, Billy Ray Hill and Larry Hill and one sister, Wanda Reichert.

Kay is survived by her son, Michael Harvey of Acorn; her daughters, Sonya Kyle of Mena and Kaylene Harvey of Acorn; three brothers, Gene Hill of Heavener, Oklahoma, Darryl Hill of Page, Oklahoma and Jeff Hill of Clarksville; four sisters, Pat Powell of Mena, Stella Benjamin of Mena, Sue Carter of Mena and Brenda Reel of Bates, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Nicholas Harvey of Fort Smith, Olivia Harvey of Mena, Sonny Aaron of Cove, Mekinzie Kyle of Mena and Braxton Kyle of Mena; several nieces and nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2020, at 1:00 P.M. at Black Fork Cemetery near Black Fork, Arkansas under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. Visitation will be Monday, October 5, 2020 from 6-8 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel.

Troy Leon Denton
October 8, 2011 - October 8, 2011

Troy Leon Denton infant son of Leon Caleb Denton and Kathleen Lorene Chamberlain died Saturday, October 8, 2011at the Mena Regional Health System.

He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Leon Chamberlain.

Survivors include his parents, Leon Caleb Denton of Mena and Kathleen Chamberlain of Mount Ida; paternal grandparents, Troy and Anna Denton of Mena; paternal great grandparents, Troy J. and Jan Denton of Mena and Juanita Samuel of Ludlow, Oklahoma; paternal great-great grandmother Leona Denton of Zafra, Oklahoma; maternal grandmother Kathy Chamberlain; maternal great grandparents, John and Faye Chamberlain of Pencil Bluff; paternal aunts Kaya, Kylene and Kayla Denton all of Mena; maternal uncles and aunt, Walter Chamberlain and John Chamberlain of Mount Ida and Jesse Chamberlain of DeQueen and Victoria Chamberlain of Mount Ida.

Funeral Services will be Monday, October 10, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. at the Bowser Family Funeral Home Chapel in Mena with Brother Brandon White officiating. Interment will follow in the Gann Cemetery. No visitation is planned.

Pallbearers will be Walter Chamberlain, John Chamberlain, Jesse Chamberlain, Jerry Denton, Raymond Ludlow and Clifford Ludlow.

Ruth S. Carey
December 7, 1913 - November 2, 2011

Ruth S. Carey age 97 of Cove, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the Mena Regional Health System.

She was born Sunday, December 7, 1913 in Colorado.

Ruth was a simple woman and enjoyed her life with her husband of 57 years, Ivan Carey. He precedes her in death, along with her parents.

She enjoyed listening to music and playing Bingo. She also enjoyed people visiting with her.

Mrs. Ruth was sent for cremation under the direction of Bowser Family Funeral Home in Mena. No services are planned at this time.
