THEO JOHNSON

Funeral services for Theo Johnson, 60, of Forrest City will held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at the New Light M.B. Church in Forrest City. The Rev. Jesse McClure will officiate. Burial will be in the Forrest City cemetery.

Johnson, born Dec. 2, 1943, to the late John and Irene Johnson, died in July 2004 at the Baptist Hospital in Forrest City.

Preceding him in death was both of his parents, a brother, and a sister.

He leaves to cherish his memory, four children, 13 grandchildren, six sisters, four brothers, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Browns Home for Funerals will direct services.

BANKSTON WATERS

Funeral services for Bankston Waters, 80, of West Helena will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at the West Helena United Methodist Church. The Rev. Rebecca Wiseman will officiate. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Barton.

Visitation will be from 5 until 7 p.m. today at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Waters, born Jan. 16, 1924 in Barton, died Aug. 4, 2004 at his residence. He was owner of a mechanical contracting business, several motels and was a real estate developer.

He was a veteran of World War II and Korea, was a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner, former West Helena city council member, served as an Ark. State Police Commissioner under the late Gov. Winthrop Rockefeller for over 20 years, and was a Republican representative on the Phillips County Election Commission.

He leaves his wife, Maxine Funderburk Waters of West Helena; two sons Bankston Edmond Waters of Destin, Fla., and Ralph K. Waters of Memphis, Tenn., a daughter Mary Susan Childress of Little Rock; two step-sons, Ron Funderburke and S.L. Funderburke of Apopka, Fla., two sisters Sara Warrick of West Helena, and Mary L. Cooper of Marks, Miss., five grandchildren; two step grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded death by a brother C.W. (Sonny) Waters and his father C.W. Waters Sr.

Pallbearers will be Ray Warrick, Mark Kirshner, Charles Waters, Henry King, Mike McCarty and Johnny Miller.

Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. John Barrow, Bob Carpenter, Jim Hall, Eddie Schieffler, Bill Akers, Judge L.T. Sims, Arnell Willis, members of the West Helena Methodist Men's Club, members of the Wally Byam Razorback Club, and members of Cotton Pickin Good Sams Club.

Memorials may be made to the West Helena United Methodist Church.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home will direct services.

FREEMAN BRYANT

Funeral services for Freeman Kelso Bryant, 76, of Little Rock, formerly of Helena who died Saturday, July 31, 2004 at St. Vincent's Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in the Rockport Community of Malvern. Dr. J.N. McCollum, pastor and Elder Billy McCoy, pastor of St. Paul Church of God in Christ will deliver the eulogy.

Burial will be at Perla cemetery with Brandon's Mortuary of Malvern in charge of arrangements.

Visitation for family and friends will be from 5 until 7 p.m. Friday at Brandon' Mortuary in Malvern.

Bryant, was born April 28, 1928 in Perla, Arkansas to the late Arthur Bryant and Ollie Medrettie Jones Bryant. He was a retired employee of Allied Chemical Company in Helena and of the Baptist faith.

He leaves his children, Sharon Clegg Montgomery of Prattsville, Freeman Bryant Jr., and wife Felicia of Dallas, Texas, Tommy and Linda Bryant of Malvern, Marilyn and Lovell Caldwell of Little Rock, Jerry Bryant of Detroit and Linda Bryant of Helena, Jacqueline and William Mobley of Plano, Texas, Michael and Saundra Bryant of San Antonio, Texas, Marcus and Doris Bryant of Chicago, Ill., David and Effie Bryant, Arthur and Katherine Bryant, Jordan Bryant and Michelle Bryant all of Helena; two brothers, James Bryant and Herschel and Queen Bryant of Malvern and a sister, Katie Haynes of Malvern and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.

His wife, Annie Mae Haynes Bryant, preceded him in death.

JAMES STROGER

Graveside services for James Stroger, 66, brother of Cook County board President John H. Stroger Jr., will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at Magnolia cemetery in Helena. Stroger died Aug. 3, 2004 after a long illness.

Visitation will be from 7:30 until 9:30 p.m. this evening at Jackson and Highley Funeral Home.

Stroger the youngest of four children born to John and Ella Stroger in Helena moved to Chicago more than 40 years ago and worked at several public agencies. A devout Catholic, James had a special spirit for life and a smile that could light up a room.

James was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Cleopatra Dunnings who died in 1998, his brother Earl Carlton Stroger who died as a young child and a nephew Hans Stroger.

He leaves a brother, John H. Stroger Jr., three nieces, Yvonne Lynn Stroger Clark, Donna Dunnings Lewis and Trudi Dunnings; a nephew, Alderman Todd Stroger and several great nieces and nephews.

Jackson and Highley Funeral Home will direct services.

FRANCES HOLLINS

Funeral services for Frances Hollins, 96, of Helena will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004 at the New Zion Church in West Helena. The Rev. James Baker will officiate.

Visitation will be Friday, Aug. 6 from 5 until 7 p.m. at New Zion Church.

Hollins, born June 26, 1908 at Oneida to the late Rev. George and Eliza Hammond Wilkins, died Aug. 3, 2004 at Helena Regional Medical Center. She confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. She was educated in the Arkansas public schools, served on the Mother's Board of her church and as a nurse's aide.

Her parents, a daughter, two sons and her late husband Taft Hollins preceded her in death.

She leaves to cherish her memory two sons, Isaac Mills of Helena, Taft and Polly Hollins of Jackson, Miss., six daughters, Vera M. Jones of Flint, Mich., Anna Phillips of Chicago, Ill., Verba Dunn of St. Anne, Ill., Ethel Garner of Kankakee, Ill., and Dorothy Johnson and Evelyn Hollins of St. Louis, Mo. a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, a niece Alberta Wolf of Indiana, a daughter-in-law Rebecca Wells of St. Anne, Mo. and her caretakers Levette, Laman and Cherry Carter, relatives and friends.

Browns Home for Funerals will direct services.

Hollins died Aug. 3, 2004 at Helena Regional Medical Center.

WILLIAM HARRIS

A private memorial service was held Sunday, Aug. 1, 2004 at Jackson and Highley Funeral Home for William Harris, 79, of Helena who died July 20, 2004 at Methodist North Hospital in Memphis.

Harris, was born March 17, 1925 in Helena to the late John and Hattie Harris. He confessed faith in Christ as his personal savior and was a member of the Beautiful Zion Baptist Church in Helena.

He was employed by the City of Helena until his retirement.

A sister, Jessie Brown preceded him in death.

He leaves to cherish his memory a loving companion Jessie B. Otey of Helena; seven children, Stephanie Harris, Leslie Hughes both of Memphis, Cook Otey, Cherry Harris, Terry Harris all of Little Rock, Larry Harris of Baltimore, Md., and Billie Harris of Okolona, Miss., and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friend.

Jackson and Highley Funeral Home directed services.

DAISY JACKSON

Funeral services for Daisy S. Jackson, 89, of Marvell will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, 2004 at Cypert Church of Christ. Mark Spencer will officiate. Burial will be at Cypert cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 until 8 p.m. Saturday, July 24 at Roller Citizens Funeral Home.

Jackson, born June 18 1915 in Marvell to Antone and Ida Schaffhauser, died July 23, 2004.

Jackson was a homemaker and member of Cypert Church of Christ.

She leaves to cherish her memory one son Elbert Jackson and his wife Rada of Marvell; one daughter Chris Meek and her husband Mack of Gretna, La.; four granddaughters Ashley Swain and her husband Bob of Oneonta, Ala., Amelia Williams and her husband Bo of Pratsville, Ala., Vicky Francia and her husband Joe of Tulsa Okla., and Patti Sims and her husband Barry of Memphis; two grandsons, Patrick Meek of Baton Rouge, La. and Weldon Elbert Jackson, III, also known as Trey, and his wife Keely of Marvell; 10 great-grandchildren, Katy Swain of Oneonta, Ala., Colton Williams of Pratsville, Ala., Libby and Meri Grace Francis of Tulsa, Okla., Jackson, Olivia, and Natalie Sims of Memphis, and Laura Leigh and Abigail Jackson of Marvell.

Preceding her in death was her husband Weldon E. Jackson, Sr.

Pallbearers will be Trey Jackson, Patrick Meek, Joe Francis, Barry Sims, Bob Swain, and Bo Williams.

Memorials are to be made to Cypert Church of Christ.

MYRTLE DOWNEY

Funeral services for Myrtle E. White Downey, 93, of Paragould will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 1, 2004 at the chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena. Burial will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Barton.

Downey, born Feb. 8, 1911 to Johnny Counts and Birtha Jane Evans Counts, died June 28, 2004 at Paragould Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Paragould. She was a member of the West Helena United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of Eastern Star.

She leaves a daughter Christine Hinton of Wynne; three sons, Raymond G. White of Memphis, Roy F. White Jr, of Carrollton, Ga., and Murl White of Paragould; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Roller-Citizens Funeral Home in West Helena will direct services.
