Edward B. Johnson

Edward Benton Johnson, 87, of Charlotte, N. C., died Saturday, Jan. 22, 2005, at Presbyterian Hospital.

He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Angus Johnson, graduate of Clarksville High School, attended Draughon's Business College in Dallas, Texas, former employee of General Foods in the sales division, Associated Brokers, and McEwen Funeral Service, served as a sergeant first class in the North African and Italian theatres during World War II, member of Providence United Methodist Church where he was a choir member, coached the junior high basketball team, served as an usher for 36 years, and was a member of the Wesley Men's Bible class, and was an American Red Cross volunteer.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Lee Cole Johnson; two sons, Ronald Edward Johnson of Greenville, S. C., and Mark Russell Johnson of Racine, Wis.; one granddaughter, Elizabeth Renee Johnson of San Francisco, Calif.; and one grandson, Ronald Benton Johnson of Atlanta, Ga.

A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 25, at Providence United Methodist Church with Rev. Dr. Ken Carter, Rev. Dr. Bill Jeffries and Tara Ebner officiating.

Honorary pallbearers were members of the Wesley Men's Sunday School class.

Memorials may be made to Providence United Methodist Church, 2810 Providence Road, Charlotte, N. C. 28211.

John Johnson

John Johnson, 91, of Clarksville died Friday, Jan. 21, 2005, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.

He was a native of the Hickeytown Community, son of the late Ben and Bertha Jones Johnson, former construction employee for many years, and was preceded in death by two brothers, Orville and Morris Johnson.

Survivors include his wife, Bea Hickey Johnson; three sisters, Goldene Knuckles of Lamar, Jewel Waldrop of Atkins, and Frances Ward of Bee Branch; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 24, at Humphrey Chapel in Russellville with Rev. Bill Milam officiating. Burial was in Hickey cemetery at Hickeytown.

Keith Keeling

Leland Keith Keeling, 60, of Coal Hill died Saturday, Jan. 15, 2005, at his home.

He was a native of Rockford, Ill., son of the late Cleo and Jewell Monden Keeling, United States Marine Corps veteran, former superintendent of the Ozark Recreation Association golf course prior to retiring in 1991, member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion, and a Southern Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Jo Ann Keeling; two sons, David Alen Keeling of Paragould and Duane Alex Keeling of Little Rock; one sister, Pamela Jean Sprage of Texas; four brothers, Cleo Keeling of Brooklyn Center, Minn., Gregory and Quinton Keeling, both of Phoenix, Ariz., and Kevin Keeling of Rockford, Ill.; and 22 grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 19, at Hess cemetery at Coal Hill with Gerald Morris officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Dr. Patrick Martin

Graveside services and burial for Dr. Patrick Martin, D. O., 77, who died Jan. 9, 2005, in San Antonio, Texas, will be at 3 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville.

He was a native of Clarksville, served as a lieutenant colonel in the United States Air Force, graduated from the University of Arkansas, completed medical school at The Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery in 1960, and opened a family practice clinic in Commerce, Texas, in 1963, where he was one of the founders of a hospital. He retired from the medical field in 1990.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law, Caryl and Brad Chilton of Stephenville, Texas, and Mary and James Ramsey of Sugarland, Texas; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Patrick W. Martin, D. O., of Denver, Colo., and Todd and Judy Martin of San Antonio, Texas; and five grandchildren, Nicholas Martin of Denver, Colo., Stuart Chilton of Stephenville, Texas, Luke Martin of San Antonio, Texas, and Rachel and Reese Ramsey of Sugarland, Texas.

Robert L. Kraus

Robert L. Kraus, 76, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2005, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.

He was a 30-year retired IBM Computer Company employee, son of the late Gomer and Alice Ann Kraus, Navy veteran and Baptist.

Survivors include his wife, Elzada Kraus; one daughter, Alice Ann Fergueson of Fayetteville; three sons, Michael Kraus of Russellville, Joe Kraus of Clarksville and Larry Kraus of North Carolina; two brothers, Gomer and Joe Kraus; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 27, at Oakland cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

W. G. Russell

W. G. Russell, 89, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Jan. 19, 2005, at his home.

He was a native of Yarbro, son of the late John and Emma Eor Russell, and retired in 1976 after working 19 years in maintenance at Newport School District at Costa Mesa, Calif.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Helen Larrison Russell; one sister, Genevive Turner of Marion, Ind.; three brothers, Roby D. Russell and Paul Russell, both of Elkhart, Ind., and James Russell of Union, Mich.; and nephews and nieces, Chuck and Joy Larrison and Steve Larrison, all of Clarksville, Michael Larrison of Arcadia, Okla., and Christina Larrison Williams of Waukegan, Ill.

Funeral was at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Larry Horne officiating. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens in Fayetteville.

Pallbearers were Tommy Davis, Varnel Nelson, Leon (Bud) Phillips, Bart English, Herb Chavers, and Russ Thormann.

Betty S. Hardgrave

Betty Sue Foster Hardgrave, 73, of Clarksville died Monday, Dec. 27, 2004.

She was a daughter of the late Alfred and Clara Foster, native of Franklin County but had resided in Johnson County for the past 58 years, was employed in the Johnson County Courthouse for 25 years having served as circuit clerk for 14 years, member of Union Grove Baptist Church where she served as a Sunday school teacher and church clerk for many years, member of the Order of Eastern Star, served as a 4-H leader, and was active in the Sulphur Springs Extension Homemakers Club.

Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Ben Floyd Hardgrave; one son and daughter-in-law, Ben Alfred and Judy Hardgrave of Clarksville; two daughters and one son-in-law, Peggy and Larry Horne and Dianne Urell, all of Clarksville; two brothers and three sisters-in-law, Guy and Velma Foster, Tommy and Mary Foster, and Muriel Hardgrave, all of Ozark; five sisters and two brothers-in-law, Rhoda Kelly of Ozark, Lillian Parker of Modesto, Calif., Alta Johnston of Mulberry, Marcella and Ira Mitchell and Joyce and Roy Crooks, all of Ozark; six grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 30, at the Union Grove Baptist Church with Rev. Larry Horne and Rev. Burnett King officiating.

Burial will be in Union Grove cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers will be Claud Dougan, Gene Raible, Mike Jacobs, Wes Kendrick, Lonnie Turner, and Duane Steele.

Honorary pallbearers will be Glen Drum, Bob Hurley, Loyd Yates, C. O. Blackard, Donald Meek, Dale Meek, John Patterson, Rick Harmon, Steve Harmon, Kenneth Harmon, Howard Halmes, and Don Dougan.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 29, at Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Carl A. Reed

Carl Anthony Reed, 60, of Albuquerque, N. M., formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2004.

Survivors include his mother and stepfather, Florence and Charles Clinton of Clarksville; and two sisters and one brother-in-law, Yvonne Leibschwager of Austin, Texas, and Marlene and Fred Dougan of Clarksville.

The body was cremated.
