Mary Jean Essary

Mary Jean Essary, 70, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 21, 2001, at her home.
She was a native of Corsicana, Texas, daughter of the late Noah Lee and Mary Agnes Henson Tidwell, former University of Arkansas employee, and a member of the Bible Church.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Essary; one son, Bobby Essary of Huntsville; one daughter, Debra J. Allen of Clarksville; one sister, Judy Haley of Siloam Springs; three grandchildren; and three step-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 27, at Cornerstone Baptist Church at 904 Highway 12 West in Bentonville. Arrangements are under the direction of Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.

Robbie H. Stevenson

Robbie Jewell Hatchett Stevenson, 80, of Modesto, Calif., died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2001, at her home.
She was a native of Johnson County and a member of the Methodist Church.
Survivors include five children, Gary Joe O'Brien, Mark Stevenson, Clara Cudney, and Patricia Gill, all of Modesto, Calif., and Gail Kubo of Kona, Hawaii; five sisters, Helen Folkner and Docha Sperry, both of Coal Hill, Pauline Mayfield of Clarksville, Melva Hansen of Clear Lake, Calif., and Mildred Newman of Auburn, Calif.; ten grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 24, at Hillview Funeral Chapel in Patterson, Calif., with graveside services and burial to follow at 2 p.m. at Patterson District cemetery.

Tessie M. Lemley

Tessie M. Lemley, 69, of Lamar died Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001, at her home.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Arthur and Ruby Harris Henderson, graduate of Lamar High School, member of the Church of Christ, widow of Harold King Lemley, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Madeline Roof and Wanda Ross Callaham; and two brothers, Morris and Clarence Henderson.
She is survived by one daughter, Elizabeth Lemley of Seligman, Mo.; mother, Elsie Henderson Anderson of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Mitch Garrett of Russellville and Molly Garrett of Eureka Springs; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 25, at Hardwicke Funeral Home. The body was cremated.

Argie Carlile

Argie Carlile, 87, of Lamar died Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
He was a member of the Full Gospel Church, retired employee of the timber industry, son of the late Joe and Belle Einard Carlile, and was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy Webb Lollis Carlile; one sister, Bernice Blentlinger; and two brothers, Robert and Raymond Carlile.
He is survived by two stepdaughters, Katie Lollis and Patsy Lollis; and one stepson, William Lollis.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 12, at Lamar cemetery with Rev. Bob Holt officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Erma E. Freeman

Erma Elsie Burch Freeman, 84, of Clarksville died Saturday, Jan. 13, 2001, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
She was a daughter of the late Charles Arthur and Bertha Ellen Monroe Burch, widow of Linus Wolf Freeman, Catholic, retired office manager, and was preceded in death by four brothers, William, Leland, and Leo Burch, and Arthur Francis.
Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Laura (Wright) and Clinton Kelley of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Letitia Sue (Stewart) Talkington and husband, Ottie, of Van Buren, Sheila Ann (Stewart) Ragsdale of Clarksville, Steven Edward Stewart of Paris, and Sandra Dean Stewart Wallace of Jacksonville, Fla.; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, at Roller-Cox Chapel followed by a private burial.

Francis A. DeMarie

Francis A. DeMarie, 88, of Clarksville died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001, at North Logan Mercy Hospital in Paris.
He was a native of Brooklyn, N. Y., son of the late John and Stefana Ambriano DeMarie, and a Catholic.
Survivors include his widow, Helen DeMarie; one stepdaughter, Betty Killane of Clarksville; and one sister, Marie Catcher of Florida.
The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Iva Jane Brown

Iva Jane Brown, 94, of Landers, Calif., sister of John W. Williamson of Clarksville, died Friday, Dec. 15, 2000.
She was a native of the White Oak Community, daughter of the late John William and Viola Hill Williamson, widow of Wallace Claud Brown, a 67-year member of the Assembly of God Church, and had been a resident of California for 55 years.
She was preceded in death by three children, Marie Iva Jean Brown, Fay Zell Brown, and John Robert Smith; one stepson, Rev. Carl W. (Jack) Brown; two step grandsons; one granddaughter; and two brothers, Ona and Edmond Williamson.
Other survivors include four sons, James H. (Pete) Smith, Monte C. Brown, and Ray D. Brown of Covina, Calif., and Billy D. Brown of Landers, Calif.; three daughters, Ann Smart of Glendora, Calif., Roberta J. Smart and Judith C. Smart of Enid, Okla.; one stepdaughter, Veda Mae Meadows of Coweta, Okla.; 11 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral and burial were Thursday, Dec. 21, at Oakdale Mortuary in Glendora, Calif.

Lisa R. Casto

Lisa R. Nagengast Casto, 34, wife of Richard Casto of Coal Hill, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, in Storm Lake, Iowa.
She attended Fonda Community School in Fonda, Iowa, was a 1984 graduate of St. Mary's High School in Storm Lake, Iowa, attended Iowa Central Community College Business School in Spencer, Iowa, former resident of Malvern and Hot Springs, an employee of Fischer Hydraulics in Laurens, Iowa, and was preceded in death by her mother, Janet Drey Nagengast; and one brother, Kevin Nagengast.
Other survivors include her father and stepmother, Ervin and Karen Nagengast of Clarksville; one brother, Gary Nagengast of Fonda, Iowa; three stepsisters, Michelle of Paris and Amy and Mary Vanderheiden of Clarksville; and one stepbrother, Jon Vanderheiden of Clarksville.
Mass of the Christian Burial was at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Varina, Iowa, with Monsignor Leonard Ziegmann officiating. Interment was at St. Columbkille cemetery in Varina, Iowa.
Pallbearers were Brian Hawks, Steven Drey, Troy Peterson, Paul Nagengast, Terry Cohoon, Brent Briggs, Dean Drey, and Jim Nagengast.

Mary Magdalene Ashley

Mary Magdalene Ashley, 77, of Lamar died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001.
She was a graduate of Lamar High School, Catholic, daughter of the late William Bradley and Maude Warren Smith, and widow of Thomas Ashley.
She is survived by one sister, Joyce Ann Miller of Lamar.
A private memorial service was held at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 15, at Roller-Cox Chapel. Funeral and burial were in Charles City, Iowa.

Peggy M. Harrison

Peggy Martin Harrison, 73, of Jonesboro, mother of Hugh W. Harrison III and Jack Scott Harrison, both of Clarksville, died Thursday, Jan. 11, 2001, at her home.
A native of Howe, Okla., she was a former resident of Little Rock, retired secretary in the Department of Special Education and Communicative Disorders at Arkansas State University where she was employed from 1975 until 1995. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, where she was past chairperson of the Women's Circle, and a volunteer with Special Olympics and the Arkansas Association of Retarded Citizens.
Survivors include her husband, Hugh Harrison; one daughter, Mary Cecilia Mansur of Little Rock; one other son, Robert Martin Harrison of Hot Springs; eight grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 13, at the First Presbyterian Church of Jonesboro with Rev. Dr. Steven Voris officiating. Burial was private and was under the direction of Emerson Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 710 Southwest Drive, Jonesboro, AR 72401.
