Freddie Miner
Freddie H. Miner, 75, of Ozark, brother of Tommy Miner of Hartman, died Sunday, Feb. 10, 2002, at Washington Regional Medical Center in Fayetteville.
He was a native of McAlester, Okla., son of the late Ralph and Goldie Stafford Miner, World War II veteran, retired employee of U. S. Steel Company, and was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.
Survivors include two daughters, Loretta Tucker and Jeannie Miner, both of Ozark; three sons, Lonnie Miner Sr. of St. Louis, Mo., and Ron Miner and Lonnie Miner Jr., both of Ozark; one other brother, Glen Miner of Table Rock; three sisters, Irene Dering of Anderson, Ind., Geraldine McCartney of Mountain Top and Joyce Kelly of Harrison; 10 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at the Bethlehem cemetery north of Hartman with Rev. Carl Sory officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Shaffer Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Lonnie Miner Jr., Bryan Tucker, Jimmy Tucker, Charles Stacy, Charlie Miner, and Darrell McCartney.
Honorary pallbearers were Lonnie Miner Sr., Kenneth Ross, Jim Easom, Mack McCain, Ron Miner, and Jim Tucker.
Gladys Clayborn
Gladys Clayborn, 92, of Lamar, formerly of Knoxville, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Nail, she was a daughter of the late Oscar and Luie Lee Brown, widow of Earnest J. Clayborn, member of Knoxville Baptist Church, retired factory employee, and was preceded in death by three brothers; and four sisters.
Survivors include one daughter, Arlene Higgs of Knoxville; one sister, Retha Watson of Jasper; one brother, Eugene Brown of Warsaw, Mo.; two grandsons, Derrek Higgs and Jon Higgs, both of Knoxville; and one great-grandson, John Higgs of Knoxville.
Graveside service and burial were at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14, at the Knoxville cemetery under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.
Gordon Lee Dunlap
Gordon Lee Dunlap, 73, of Jefferson, formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital Desoto in South Haven, Miss.
He was born at Spadra, son of the late Hubert and Agnes Gifford Dunlap, World War II Navy veteran, retired from the Arkansas National Guard at Pine Bluff after 25 years, retired from the Pine Bluff Arsenal, and was preceded in death by his wife, Billie Joyce Bohannon Dunlap.
He was survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Thelma Dunlap of White Hall; one sister, Jeanette Smith of Little Rock; two grandchildren, Hubert Dunlap of Pine Bluff and Rhonda Ply of Jefferson; one great-grandchild, Cameron James Dunlap of Pine Bluff; and two step-grandchildren, Kye Harrison and Terri Harrison, both of White Hall.
Graveside services and burial were at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at the Woodland cemetery with Rev. George Willis officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Mike Smith, Jimmy Harvey, Charles Holmes, J. E. Cox, Deno Phillips, and Morgan Earl Howard.
Harold D. Acord
Harold Denver Acord of Austin, Texas, formerly of Clarksville, died Jan. 25, 2002.
Survivors include his widow, Maggie Dobbs Acord; four sons, Rick, Tim, Sam, and Harold Jr.; one daughter, Debby; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
Dr. Harold Boyer
Harold Boyer, 85, of Las Vegas, Nev., a retired dermatologist, died Friday, Feb. 8, 2002.
A native of Hartman and son of the late Dr. Herbert and Lois Wofford Boyer, he was a former resident of Fort Towson, Okla., graduate of Fort Towson High School and graduated medical school from the University of Oklahoma before completing a one-year internship at the New Rochelle Hospital in New York in 1942. He also served internships in Ann Arbor, Mich., and St. Louis, Mo.
He served in World War II as a Naval medical officer before his enlistment ended in 1946. He then opened a dermatology practice in Oklahoma until he was activated to serve as a physician in the Korean War. He moved to Las Vegas, Nev., when he ended his second stint with the Navy in 1952. He became the head of emergency at Southern Nevada Memorial Hospital, consultant of dermatology at Nellis Air Force Base, co-founder of the Las Vegas Skin and Cancer Center and later founded the Arkansas Country Doctor Museum in Lincoln.
Dr. Boyer was a charter member and board member of University United Methodist Church, a UNLV booster, a member and past president of the Las Vegas Rotary Club as well as the Las Vegas chapter of the American Cancer Society, served on the boards of the Salvation Army and Boy Scouts of America, and was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Bohle Boyer in 1994.
Survivors include his widow, Judith Boyer; one daughter, Mary Elizabeth Boyer Martinez; one son, John Boyer of Las Vegas, Nev.; one brother, Bill Boyer of Dallas, Texas; one grandson, Brian Michael Boyer of Las Vegas, Nev.; and one granddaughter, Blake Boyer of Las Vegas, Nev.
Memorial services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 13, at University United Methodist Church with burial to follow at Hartman.

Hettie Curtis
Hettie Cowell Curtis, 88, of the Flat Rock Community died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was a native of Johnson County, daughter of the late Jimmy John and Melissa Breedlove Cowell, widow of Alvie Thomas Curtis, and a member of the Hagarville Church of Christ.
She is survived by three sons, Lee Gerald Curtis of California and Harland Curtis and Thomas Curtis, both of Knoxville; two brothers, Jimmy Cowell of Hartman and Billy Cowell of Clarksville; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 16, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Paul Bates and Keith Avaritt officiating. Burial was in Annie's Chapel cemetery.
Pallbearers were Harland Curtis, Tom Curtis, Carl Curtis, James Cowell, John Weir, and Steve Bocksnick.
Hazel B. Stephens
Hazel Henrietta Burkholder Stephens, 87, of DeSoto, Texas, formerly of Clarksville, died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002.
She was a native of Barstow, Texas, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. William Burkholder, widow of Cleed Stephens, graduate of Barstow High School, former employee of the Farm Security Administration, highway patrol, retail floral industry, retail clothing sales, and the Pecos (Texas) School System Administration offices, and was preceded in death by four brothers, Ralph Burkholder, Walter (Buck) Burkholder, John Burkholder and Wilson (Bill) Burkholder; and three sisters, Flossie Nutt, Viola Howrey, and Pauline Wright.
Survivors are one son and daughter-in-law, Thomas and Melissa Stephens of DeSoto, Texas; one grandson, Andrew Stephens of DeSoto, Texas; one sister, Gertrude Hestes of Fort Worth, Texas; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 20, at Oakland cemetery in Clarksville with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating. Local arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
Jeremy D. Chenowith
Jeremy Don Chenowith, 23, of Russellville died Sunday, Feb. 17, 2002.
He was a tile installer, member of the Assembly of God Church, native of Russellville, graduate of Dover High School, musician, singer and songwriter, and was preceded in death by his maternal great-grandparents, Odus J. and Emma Crowe and Ollie and Jewel Jamell; and paternal great-grandparents, William and Gustava Duvall and Harve and Thea Chenowith.
Survivors include his wife, Debbie Chenowith of Dardanelle; one son, Alex Chenowith of Dardanelle; one daughter, Olivia Chenowith of Dardanelle; parents, Donny R. and Diane Jamell Chenowith of Russellville; sister, Jessica Chenowith of Russellville; maternal grandparents, Shirley and Sam Jamell Sr. of Russellville; paternal grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. Norman (Mary) Chenowith of Ola; aunt, Anita Chenowith Smith of Russellville; uncle, Sam Jamell Jr. of Dover; and cousins, Jerrod and Nicole Smith of Atkins, Leslie Metz of Dover, and Samuel Jamell III of Pottsville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 21, at Lemley Funeral Chapel with Rev. Tommy McCaul and Rev. David Downum officiating. Burial will be in Shiloh cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Tim Metz, Gary Jones, John Birge, Butch Duvall, Tracy Blood, and Samuel Jamell III.
Jess F. Looper Jr.
Jess F. Looper Jr., 78, of West Monroe, La., formerly of Clarksville, died Thursday, Feb. 14, 2002, at his home.
He was a native of Clarksville, son of the late Ada (Hatchett) and Jess F. Looper Sr., U. S. Army veteran of World War II, member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksville, former employee of Oklahoma Tire and Supply Company (OTASCO), and was preceded in death by one daughter, Alicia J. Looper; and one son, Rodger Allison Looper.
Survivors include his widow, Velma Marion Looper; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating. Burial will be in Oakland cemetery.
Velma Looper
Velma Marion Looper, 73, of West Monroe, La., formerly of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2002.
She was a native of Hartman, daughter of the late Hugh and Alice Marvel Marion, graduate of Hartman High School, member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksville, retired beautician, widow of Jess F. Looper Jr., and was preceded in death by one daughter, Alicia J. Looper; and one son, Rodger Allison Looper.
She is survived by one sister, Crystal Acord of Hartman; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Rev. Lowell Eaton officiating. The body was cremated and the cremains will be buried in Oakland cemetery at Clarksville.
