Damir Karic

Damir Karic, 1, of Lamar died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at his home.
He was born April 6, 2002, in Fort Worth, Texas.
Survivors include his parents, Donavan and Rachel Farmer of Lamar; two sisters, Alanis and Trinity Farmer, both of Lamar; paternal grandparents, Audrey and Butch Farmer of Oark; maternal grandparents, Lori and William Johnson of Russellville; and numerous aunts and uncles.
A memorial service will be announced later by Dardanelle Funeral Service.

Esther J. Jones

Esther Jane Jones, 83, of Cass died Sunday, April 27, 2003, at her home.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Dorothy Turner of Lamar.
She is survived by eight children, James Jones, Johnny Jones and Bessie Haffelder, all of Cass, Vergie Granillo of Ozark, Wanda Haffelder of Delaney, Rosa Kildow of Fayetteville, Freda Kildow of West Fork, and Susie Osburn of Springfield, Mo.; son-in-law, Kenneth Turner of Flat Rock; several grandchildren including Kathy Dyer of Lamar, Lynne Sims of Clarksville, Bill Turner and Rita Kraus, both of Knoxville, Betsy Haffelder, Terri Osburn, Jennifer Graham, Amanda Granillo, April Granillo, and James Lee Jones, all of Ozark and Frankie Jones of Coal Hill; and several great-grandchildren including Jamie Taylor, Becky Heyland, Erica Dyer, Alfred Milam, Shauna Hylton, Matthew Needham, Ashley Needham, K. T. Turner, Ryan Turner, William Turner Jr., Cody Kraus, Mariah Jones and Allison Graham.
Funeral was Wednesday, April 30, at Shaffer Funeral Home in Ozark with burial at Patrick cemetery.

Francis W. Cowan

Francis W. (Bud) Cowan, 79, of Fort Smith died Thursday, May 1, 2003, in Fort Smith.
He was born in Clarksville to the late William Issac (Ike) and
Georgia Casteel Cowan, graduated from Oark High School and attended the University of the Ozarks where he majored in chemistry. During his two years of military service he was a combat rifle infantryman in the Bloody Bucket Division during the Battle of the Bulge.
In 1946, he graduated from the Kansas City School of Watchmaking where he later taught for a short time. He was retired owner-operator of Cowan Jewelry Store in Fort Smith which served as the central office for the seven stores he owned and operated in Beaumont, Texas, Port Arthur, Texas, and Lake Charles, La. He was also engaged in real estate and a car lot business.
He was a 32nd degree Mason and was active in the Optimist Club where he served as president and secretary-treasurer. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Bernice Cowan; one daughter, Nancy Sue (Suzy) Miller; and one son, William Curtis (Bill) Cowan.
Survivors include two daughters, L. Lee Cowan of Fox and Cindie Cowan Kelcey of Fort Smith; two sisters, Bertha (Butch) Waldo of Ozone and Grace Mayo of Sallisaw, Okla.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, May 5, at Edwards Funeral Home Chapel in Fort Smith with Rev. David Bell, pastor of Kinsley (Kansas) Methodist Church officiating. Burial was in Roselawn cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association, 212 Natural Resource Drive, Little Rock, AR 72205.

Harry M. Torzeski

Harry M. Torzeski, 88, of Clarksville died Thursday, May 1, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Wilton, N. D., son of the late Nickolas and Irene Kansky Torzeski, and was preceded in death by his wife, Laura Torzeski.
Survivors are one daughter, Cheryl Torzeski of Arlington, Texas; three sons, Gary Torzeski and Dennis Torzeski, both of Cali-
fornia, and David Torzeski of Dallas, Texas; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.
Local arrangements were under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.

Johnnie M. Jenkins

Johnnie Mildred Jenkins, 73, of Russellville died Friday, May 2, 2003, at Sparks Regional Medical Center in Fort Smith.
She was a daughter of the late George Frank and Ira Wilkins Campbell, widow of Milburn A. Jenkins, and retired Con-Agra employee.
She is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Arthur and Dollie Jenkins of Russellville and James David Jenkins of Midwest City, Okla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Norma Jean and Bill Patterson of Clarksville; two brothers and sisters-in-law, J. C. and Anita Campbell of Clarksville and Maxi Don and Janice Campbell of California; eight grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services and burial were at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 6, at Oakland cemetery with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Jessie O. Warren

Jessie Omagene Warren, 74, of Belfair, Wash., died Tuesday, April 29, 2003, at Harrison Hospital.
She was a native of Garber, daughter of the late Arthur and Susie Ober Beasley, 1946 graduate of Ozone School, widow of Sam O. Warren, and retired from business in 1980.
She was preceded in death by four siblings, Quinton Beasley, Mildred Casey, Edra Cox and Bertie Cox of Johnson County.
Survivors include two sons, Larry Warren of Belfair, Wash., and Bart Warren of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; two daughters, Leah Sperl of Purdy and Lesia Stice of Vancouver, Wash.; two adopted daughters, Sammy Warren of Belfair, Wash., and Gail Rhodes of Clarksville; one sister, Nedra Thompson of Lonoke; 14 grandchildren; and 20 great-grandchildren.
Funeral and burial arrangements were under the direction of Miller-Woodlawn Funeral Home.

Laurence Nauman Jr.

Laurence Edward Nauman Jr., 73, of Ozark died Monday, April 28, 2003, at his home.
He was a native of Douglas, Wyo., son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Laurence (Mable Wigent) Nauman Sr., rancher, Methodist, and was employed in crushing and paving construction.
Survivors include his widow, Ethel Fawcett Nauman; five daughters, Amy Garner of Arizona, Kay Weinland and Ginny Latham, both of Colorado, Susy Crumm of Wyoming, and Lynne Gayle of Idaho; three sons, Bud Nauman, Mickey Nauman, and Mike Nauman, all of Wyoming; one sister, Helen Ball of Colorado; 24 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.
The body was cremated.

Robert E. Baskin

Robert Eugene Baskin, 90, of Clarksville died Sunday, May 4, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
He was a retired service technician for the poultry industry, member of the Harmony Presbyterian Church, son of the late James Randolph and Lizzie Mae Basham Baskin, and was preceded in death by one sister, Lottie Marie Baskin Bean; and two brothers, John Pierce Baskin and David Kenneth Baskin.
Survivors include his widow of 66 years, Regna (Pat) Wofford Baskin; two daughters and sons-in-law, Jan E. and Lance Spanke and Debby K. and James R. Dickerson, all of Clarksville; five grandchildren and spouses, David Lance and Lori (Patterson) Spanke II, Tabitha Rachelle (Frala) and Clifford Hoyt, Heather Lynn (Frala) Brady, Robert Eugene and Marlina Lindsey Spanke, and Stephanie Laine Spanke Lewis; three great-grandchildren, Gage Edmond Hoyt, Halen Jagger Lewis, and Haiden Alaine Brady; one sister, Theda Rose Baskin Cobb of Garland, Texas; and two brothers, James Lawrence Baskin of Kansas City, Mo., and Paul Douglas Baskin of Clarksville.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, May 8, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Burley King officiating. Burial will be in Harmony cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be David Lance Spanke II, Robert Eugene Spanke, Randy Lee Baskin, Bobby Lewis, Michael Ray Frala, Don Anderson, and Douglas Ray Baskin.
Honorary pallbearers will be James Paul Baskin, Larry Baskin, Gary Baskin, Bobby Gene Bean, Earl McKinney, Brian Pledger, and Clifford Hoyt.
Visitation will be from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday, May 7, at Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Roger W. James

Roger W. James, 58, of Fayetteville, husband of the former Sharon Pazdera of Clarksville, died Friday, April 25, 2003, at Northwest Nursing Center in Fayetteville.
He was a native of Kansas City, Mo., son of the late Wylton E. and Marjorie Phyllis Fox James, grandson of the late Rev. Ralph and Marguerite Fox of Gentry, graduate of Lincoln High School and the University of the Ozarks in Clarksville, former resident of Ozark, where he was a past president of the Rotary Club and an ordained elder at the First Presbyterian Church. He was employed for 20 years with Cargill as regional sales manager and later worked as a truck broker with Vouk Truck Brokerage.
Other than his widow, he is survived by one daughter, Mrs. Casey (Tara) Wilkins of Coppell, Texas; one granddaughter, Dillon Wilkins of Coppell, Texas; two nephews; and three great-nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 29, at Beard's Funeral Chapel with Rev. Peter Kimball officiating.
Memorials may be made to the University of the Ozarks, 415 North College Avenue, Clarksville, AR 72830.
