Edna Freeman

Edna Freeman, 83, of Dover died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was born in the Holman Community north of Lamar, a daughter of the late Earl and Eddie Mae Kraus Mathews, widow of Otal Freeman, member of the Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church, and was preceded in death by three sisters; one brother; and one grandchild.
Survivors include two sons, Bobby Mathews and Gary Freeman, both of Dover; two daughters, Paulette Helton of Dover and Margaret Matlock of New Blaine; four sisters, Louise Freeman of Gum Log, Mae McNeeley of California, Kathern Leavell of Dover, and Dorothy Grady of Edwards, Mo.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at the Gospel Lighthouse Pentecostal Church with Rev. Bobby Freeman officiating.
Burial was in Annie's Chapel cemetery under the direction of Humphrey Funeral Service of Russellville.
Pallbearers were Kenneth Riggs, R. L. Williams, Ronnie Mathews, Danny McMinn, Jimmy Floyd, and Joe Hampton.

Karl R. Pomrenke

Karl Robert Pomrenke, 88, of Fort Smith, brother of Alfred Pomrenke of Clarksville, died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003, in Fort Smith.
He was retired from the United States Air Force after 20 years of service, member of the First Lutheran Church of Fort Smith, and retired Southside High School teacher and farmer.
Survivors include his widow, Gudrun Pomrenke; two daughters, Ute G. French of Fort Smith and Michaela P. Whitton of Centennial, Colo.; one son, Dr. Gernot Pomrenke of Mananassas, Va.; one stepson, Gunter F. Hauck of Oberkirch, Germany; one sister, Mary-Ann Schlueter of Oaklawn, Ill.; one other brother, Julias Pomrenke of Reno, Nev.; one brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Heinrich and Inge Jung of Pirmasens, Germany; seven grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, at the First Lutheran Church with burial at the U. S. National cemetery in Fort Smith under the direction of Edwards Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Michael French, Stefan Pomrenke, Alexander Swanson, Donald Trammell, Tom Golden, Aaron French, and Brian Perkins.
Memorials may be made to First Lutheran Church, 419 North 12th, Fort Smith, AR 72901.

Laverna M. Baker

Laverna May Baker, 64, of Knoxville died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2003, at her home.
She was a nurse at Johnson Regional Medical Center, member of First Baptist Church of Knoxville, daughter of the late Harvey Lee and Motie Mae Thompson and Wardena and Wallace Adams, and was preceded in death by one sister, Callie Maude Johnston; and three brothers, Harvey Ward Thompson, Billy Wayne Thompson and Walter Andrew Thompson.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Edward Baker; two daughters and one son-in-law, Jeannine Felegi and Mel Sams of Van Buren and Peggy Swopes of Knoxville; three sons and daughters-in-law, Wesley and Gina Baker of Clarksville, Fred L. and Trini Baker of Dover, and Edward P. and Noriko Baker of Guam; one brother, Wallace Eugene Thompson of Texas; and four grandchildren, Benjamin David Hester, Sylvia Celeste Fuller, Kevin Dane Baker, and Tosha Marie Swopes.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at Knoxville First Baptist Church with Rev. Richard Snyder officiating.
Burial was in Woodland cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Mike Helms, Jim Warren, Young Reese, Don Cockran, Rodney Selby and Allen Brown.
Honorary pallbearers were Sam Howell, Andy Brightman, Glen Rainey, Billie Grissom and Deborah Roberts.

Mary Lou Brown

Mary Lou Brown, 76, of Clarksville died Friday, Dec. 26, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Grover and Marjorie McCracken Russell, widow of Leonard Brown, and a Baptist.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, John N. and Peggy Brown of Clarksville; one brother, Lee Russell of Clarksville; two grandchildren, Amanda Estelle and husband, Mark, of Knoxville and Ginger Brown of Little Rock; and two great-grandchildren, Dylan Beck and Abby Estelle, both of Knoxville.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was in Mt. Vernon cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Louie Leeds, Ted Laneer, Kenn Young, Jimmy Gould, Tim Skaggs, and Jackie Dobbins.
Honorary pallbearer was Charles McCarley.

Ouita R. Rosewaren

Ouita Ruth Rosewaren, 79, of Hartman died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at her home.
A native of Mountain Top, she was a daughter of the late Robert and Almeda Maxwell Tyson, widow of William O. Rosewaren, 1942 graduate and valedictorian of Pleasant View High School at Mulberry, Baptist, former employee of Clarksville Poultry Processing Plant, welder during World War II, member of Coal Hill VFW Post 8532 Ladies Auxiliary, and was preceded in death by one brother, Gene Tyson; and one sister, Shirley Kizer.
She is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Barbara Beck and Robert Lints of Hartman and Betty Rosewaren of Cabot; two sisters, Vessie Ivey of Mulberry and Robbie Smith of Fort Smith; one brother, Aubrey Tyson of Portland, Ind.; one sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Catherine and Warren Ash of Conoga Park, Calif.; three grandchildren, Michael Rosewaren and Jimmy Beck, both of Cabot, and Kimberly Beck of Hartman; and four grandchildren, Dylan Beck of Clarksville, Madison Evans and Lexie Evans, both of Hartman, and Andi Beck of Cabot.
Graveside services and burial will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at Kendall cemetery with Rev. Leroy Kizer and Rev. Paul Tyson officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers will be Richard Ivey, Karl Tharpe, James Beck, Craig Evans, Steve Stephen, and Dale Southern.

Richard Lawrence Sr.

Richard Leroy Lawrence Sr., 84, of Roseville, Calif., died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2003.
He was a former resident of Mt. Ayr and Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Navy Electrician's Mate 3rd Class prior to and during World War II, former employee of the Department of Defense (Air Force) following discharge from the Navy, spent two years in Spain, three in England and two in Germany, was active in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, National Association of Retired Federal Employees, the USS Tennessee (BB-43) Reunion Association and Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder for several years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Con and Fairy Belle Rush Lawrence and stepmother, Lizzie Schoemacher Lawrence.
Survivors include his wife of 65 years, Laura Eileen Privitt Lawrence, a native of Lamar; two sons, Richard Jr. and Conrad; one daughter, Jo; two granddaughters, Heidi and Laura; one brother, Keith of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorials may be made to Alzheimer's-NARFE, Alzheimer's Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., 17th Floor, Chicago, IL 60601-7633.

Robert Paul Wells

Robert Paul Wells, 78, of Scranton died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, in Paris.
He was former owner of Wells Furniture, World War II veteran of the Navy and Marine Corps, 33rd degree Mason, co-owner and chairman of the First National Bank of Paris, former city of Paris alderman and retired assistant fire chief, member of the Arkansas State Pardon and Parole Board for 15 years and chairman for five years, and member of the First Baptist Church. He was a son of the late John Paul and Minnie Mae Baskin Wells and was preceded in death by one sister, Peggy Mock; one brother, Jimmy Wells; and one great-grandson, Jay Collin Wells.
He is survived by one daughter, Sandra Louise Friddle of Fort Smith; two sons, James Robert Wells and John Paul Wells, both of Paris; one sister, Betty Poyntor of Dover; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 30, at the First Baptist Church in Paris.
Burial was in Oakwood cemetery at Paris under the direction of Roller Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers were Creed Wells, Craig Wells, Kirby Wells, Eric Wells, Cory Wells, Colby Wells, Cody Friddle and Justin Davis.

Stella M. Curtis

Stella Mae Curtis, 67, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2003, at her home.
She was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church and daughter of the late Roy Vester and Imogene Mabel Williams Nunley.
Survivors include her husband, Paul Leonard Curtis; two daughters and one son-in-law, Paula and Jimmy Wilkins of Jay, Okla., and Sheila Curtis of Clarksville; and one sister, Wanda Clinton of Little Rock.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 26, at Landmark Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Vernon Bass officiating.
Burial was in Annie's Chapel cemetery under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Carl Curtis, David Handley, Howard Wilkins, Jerry Curtis, Jimmy Wilkins, and Jimmy Foster.

Virgil C. Gilbertson

Virgil Calvin Gilbertson, 79, of Clarksville died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2003, at St. Edward Mercy Medical Center in Fort Smith.
He was a member of the First United Pentecostal Church of Clarksville, son of the late Elmer and Ethel Edelia Brostrom Gilbertson, retired chief of police in St. Paul Park, Minn., and was preceded in death by one son, Larry Gilbertson.
Survivors include his widow, Gladys Gilbertson; one daughter, Judy Minniear of Clarksville; one daughter-in-law, Sue Gilbertson of Sarasota, Fla.; one sister and brother-in-law, Norma and Robert Anderson of Minnesota; one grandson and spouse, Michael and Dawn Minniear of Clarksville; and three great-grandchildren, Steven Minniear, Megan Minniear and Tyler Minniear, all of Clarksville.
Funeral was at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 29, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Vernon Long officiating followed by funeral at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 2, at Apostolic Bible Church in St. Paul, Minn. Burial will be in Burnside cemetery in Red Wing, Minn.
