Magdalene Acord

Magdalene Dobbs Acord, 71, of Sunset Valley, Texas, died Friday, Nov. 28, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
She was a daughter of the late Man and Suda Maxie Hamilton Dobbs, widow of Harold Denver Acord, and an employee of the Department of Human Services.
Survivors include one daughter, Debby Stockton of Wimberley, Texas; four sons, Ric Acord and Tim Acord, both of Austin, Texas, Sam Acord of Cedar Creek, Texas, and Dee Acord of Sunset Valley, Texas; five sisters, Frances Thomas and Lucy Elms, both of Clarksville, Ann Smith and Catherine Worth, both of Tulsa, Okla., and Etta Houston of Hartman; four brothers, Bill Dobbs of Kansas City, Kan., Jack Dobbs of Clarksville, Don Dobbs of Lamar, and Harold Dobbs of New Blaine; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service was held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, at Kingdom Hall in Clarksville with Lee Ford officiating. The body was cremated. Local arrangements were under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.

Mildred B. Bildy

Mildred Bowles Dildy, 78, of Atkins died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at her home.
A native of London, she was a daughter of the late Ruel Ray and Minnie Bell Bewley Cox, widow of Thurman Edward Bowles Sr. and Earnest E. (Jake) Dildy, member of the Antioch Free Will Baptist Church, and was preceded in death by one brother, James Cox; one sister, Wilma Anderson; and one great-grandson, Brian Darnold.
She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Rheba and Dewayne Crosley of Clarksville, Ann and Gene Budimier of Lake Station, Ind., Wilma and Bobby Chaney of Atkins, and Shirley and Jerry Hardin of London; two sons and daughters-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Thurman (Jo Ann) Bowles Jr. of London and Mr. and Mrs. Bennie Wayne (Linda) Bowles of Tecumseh, Okla.; one sister, Bonnie Coleman of Mulberry; 31 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 10 a.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at the Antioch Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Fred Goates and Rev. Hubert Staggs officiating.
Burial was in Oak Ridge cemetery at Jethro near Ozark under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Active pallbearers were Johnny Bowles, Jimmy Bowles, Steve Darnold, Eugene Darnold, David Nix, Doug Crosley and Jeremy Hardin.
Honorary pallbearers were Michael Bowles, Gene Smith, Roy Hughes, Bobby Chaney, Jerry Hardin, Dewayne Crosley, John King, Sherman Collins, Chris Hull, Andrew Holtzman, A. J. Hollon, Larry Walker, and Gene Budimier.
Memorials may be made to the Antioch Free Will Baptist Church, 1731 Sweeden Road, Russellville, AR 72802.

Pauline Deeds

Pauline Deeds, 88, of Russellville, mother of Nellie Jane Griffith of Russellville, formerly of Clarksville, died Monday, Dec. 1, 2003, at AMI St. Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville.
She was a daughter of the late Jim and Becky Chesser, widow of Marion Deeds, and member of Faith Church in Dardanelle.
Survivors include three other daughters, Rebecca Ann Williams of Russellville, Betty Ann Harper of Dardanelle and Mary Lou Wise of Casa; four sons, Danny Earl Deeds, James Riley Deeds and Lonnie Eugene Deeds, all of Russellville, and Frankie Lee Deeds of Pottsville; 26 grandchildren; 48 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 4, at Faith Church in Dardanelle with Rev. David Jay officiating.
Burial will be in Graves cemetery at Delaware under the direction of Roller-Cox Funeral Home.
Active pallbearers will be Frankie Deeds, Danny Earl Deeds, Gary Newman, Danny J. Robertson, Frankie Wayne Deeds, and Danny Wayne Deeds.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jeff Clark, Mack Harper, Chris Harper, and Joe Taylor.

Russell R. Houston

Russell Ralph Houston, 44, of Mound City, Kan., died Saturday, Nov. 29, 2003, at his home.
He was a son of the late Morris Ellis Houston, laborer and Baptist.
Survivors include his mother, Dixie Houston Chapman of Mound City, Kan., formerly of Johnson County; and two sisters and brothers-in-law, Lana and Kenneth Bretch of Belton, Mo., and Barbara and Michael Thomas of Garden City, Mo.
Funeral was at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 2, at Roller-Cox Chapel with Rev. Amos Pledger officiating. Burial was private.

Shirley J. Lewis

Shirley Joyce Hubbard Lewis, 71, of McGehee, whose daughter and son-in-law, Vickie and Glenn West, reside in Clarksville, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at St. Vincent Infirmary Medical Center in Little Rock.
She was a native of Dermott, daughter of the late W. F. and Nora Ann Dowdy Hubbard, retired home health care employee, and a member of the First Baptist Church of McGehee and Order of the Eastern Star.
Other survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Kenny and Ronda Lewis of Benton; five grandchildren, Sean West, Ryan West, April Lewis, Natalie Lewis and Andrew Lewis; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral was at 1 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 30, at Griffin Funeral Service Chapel with Dr. Tommy Cunningham officiating. Burial was in Dermott cemetery.

Clifford L. Myers

Clifford L. Myers, 84, of North Highlands, Calif., died Nov. 14, 2003, at his home.
He was retired from McClellan Air Force Base, member of the Disabled American Veterans, and was preceded in death by two sisters, Milber Frost and Lois Boaz.
Survivors include his widow, Betty Myers; three daughters, Lorraine Myers of North Highlands, Calif., and Joyce Myers and Linda Myers, both of Arizona; two sons, Dennis Myers and Wayne Myers, both of Arizona; one brother, John Myers of London; two sisters, Thelma Jean Tipton of Clarksville and Edythe Bly of Texas; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
No funeral services were held. Arrangements were under the direction of East Lawn Mortuary.

Carrie M. Powell

Carrie Morgan Powell, 77, of Lamar died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Countryside Manor Nursing Home.
A native of Lamar, she was a daughter of the late Otho and Lera Nation Morgan, widow of Leon Powell, graduate of Lamar High School, member of Lamar Methodist Church and Lamar Chapter No. 516 Order of the Eastern Star, retired sales clerk, and was preceded in death by two brothers, James Wilson Morgan and Norman Morgan; and one sister, Lera Ann Russworm.
She is survived by one sister, Ada Jane Willis of Oklahoma City, Okla.; three nieces, Kenna Jane Tays of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Norma Mariott and Alice Ann Johnson, both of Lamar; and five nephews, Frank Morgan of Pineville, Mo., James Lee Russworm of Tyler, Texas, Carl Lyn Russworm of Burnett, Texas, and Roger Willis and Bob Willis, both of Oklahoma City, Okla.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Monday, Dec. 1, at Lamar Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Thurman officiating.
Burial was in Lamar cemetery under the direction of Hardwicke Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were James Lee Russworm, Roger Willis, Sam Willis, George Overbey, Frank Nordin and Leland Nordin.

Alice M. Crabtree

Alice Marie Hirtler Crabtree, 79, of Clarksville died Tuesday, Nov. 25, 2003, at Clarksville Convalescent Home.
She was born in Harlan County, Ky., daughter of the late Ralph and Mary Elizabeth McCleary Hirtler, lifelong resident of Johnson County and Clarksville, member of the Second Baptist Church in Clarksville, 31-year member of Girl Scouts of the USA having served as a member of the Mt. Magazine Council where she was awarded the "Thanks Badge," the highest honor for volunteer adults, active in the Johnson County Democrat Party, and formerly employed as a home health aide. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Hirtler; and five sisters, Agnes Guthrie, Eunita Denton, Juanita Wheeler, Sophia Phillips, and Fleda Mae Moore.
Survivors include her husband of 63 years, Bernard R. Crabtree; one daughter, Sue Park of Clarksville; one granddaughter, Laura Gretchen Park of Clarksville; one grandson, Farris Crabtree Park and wife, Jennifer Smith Park, of Conway; one great-granddaughter, Allison Jade Park of Conway; one great-grandson, Benjamin Tanner Park of Clarksville; two brothers, Arch Wheeler of Conway and Jack Hirtler of Louisiana; one sister, Polly Key of Lamar; two brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law, Bill and Micki Hart of Conway, Leon Crabtree of Coal Hill, and Mary Ann Crabtree of Jasper.
Funeral will be at 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 28, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel with Virgil Knight and Herb Stallcup officiating. Burial will be in Coal Hill cemetery.

Brooks P. Bowman

Brooks P. Bowman, 67, of Clarksville died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003, at Johnson Regional Medical Center.
A native of Lansing, Mich., he was a son of the late George P. Bowman and Marie Tate, Navy veteran having served during the Korean War, and former owner-operator of Brooks Model Hobbie Shop in Clarksville.
Survivors include his widow, Peggie Bowman; one daughter and son-in-law, Valerie and Hal Cameron of Houston, Texas; stepmother, Doris Bowman of Ohio; one half-sister, Amy Cuff of Lexington, Ky.; three half-brothers, Gregory Bowman and Bobby Bowman, both of Ohio, and Eric Bowman of Michigan; three grandchildren, Karen Cameron, Jennie Cameron, and Scott Cameron, all of Houston, Texas; and two great-grandchildren, Halie Bluitt and Matilda, both of Houston, Texas.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 22, at Hardwicke Funeral Chapel. The body was cremated.

Eltrie I. Smith

Eltrie I. Smith, 71, of Dover, sister of Vivian Courson of Clarksville, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003, at Greenbrier Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
A native of the Hickey Township in Johnson County, she was a daughter of the late Alfred and Grace Snow Owen, widow of Billy Lee Smith, Pentecostal, and was preceded in death by one daughter, Hazel Smith; one brother; and two sisters.
Survivors include two sons, Tommy Smith of Dover and Billy Dale Smith of York, Neb.; five other sisters, Grace Young of Dover, Ruby Esterline of California, and Rachel Nemitz, Mary Lin and Fayma Nelson, all of Minnesota; one brother, Alfred A. Owen of Washington; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral was at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Bishop-Griffin Funeral Chapel in Greenbrier with Rev. Sally Ladd of Lamar officiating.
