Ethel Marie Beasley Todd
Ethel Marie Beasley Todd of Quitman, AR, died February 14, 2004, at Baptist Medical Center in North Little Rock, AR. Born May 20, 1922, in the Valley Special/Mt. Olive community, she was 81. She was the daughter of the late Louis Henry Beasley and Mamie Ethel Taylor Beasley.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Chester and Jack Beasley; sister Dollie Beasley; and grandson Michael Giles.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Charlie D. Todd of Quitman; two daughters, Janet Naylor and her husband Bill of North Little Rock, and Susan Giles and her husband Eddie of Quitman; a brother, Walter Lee Beasley of Heber Springs; a sister, Nellie Pettus and her husband Billie of Quitman; six grandchildren, David Naylor of Edmond, OK, Teresa Naylor of Jasper, AL, Jason Giles of Heber Springs, Robert, Amanda and Jonathan Giles of Quitman; four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jonathan Naylor of Edmond, OK, and Kaiya Noah Giles of Heber Springs. Many nieces, nephews, and friends also survive her.
She attended school at Valley Special and Quitman, graduating as the top student in her class. She and Charlie married
October 1, 1939. After his discharge from the army at the end of World War II, they returned home to the Pearson community. Together they owned and operated the Cackle Moo Farm. They raised registered polled beef cattle and breeder hens. Although Marie’s activities centered about the home, she was an active member of the Palestine Baptist Church where she taught a Sunday School class for many years.
Visitation for Mrs. Todd will be held at Olmstead Funeral Home on Monday, February 16, 2004 at 5:00 - 8:00 pm
Services for Mrs. Todd will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2004 in the Pines Baptist Church at 2:00 pm with Rev. Dick DeBusk, Rev. Leon Vandivor, Rev. Denver Gillespie and Benny Rothwell officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Jason Giles, Robert Giles, Jonathan Giles, B.W. Pettus, David Naylor, Boyd Rothwell, Richard Rothwell and Frederick Fowlkes.
Interment will be in the Pearson cemetery.

Mrs. Vera Ellen Turner
Mrs. Vera Ellen Turner, age 79, of Quitman, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2004, at Beverly HealthCare in Heber Springs, Arkansas. Born July 3, 1924, at Antioch, Oklahoma, she was the daughter of the late Berry Fite and Lola Carzina (Hoss) Dill. Mrs. Turner was a homemaker and mother, and her religious belief was Baptist. She was preceded in death by her husband, George W. Turner. Survivors include one son, G. W. 'Sonny' Turner of California, two daughters, Cynthia Broyles and Judy E. Whitmier, both of Quitman, AR, four brothers, three sisters, and ten grandchildren, Justin, Celiena, Danny, Linda, Johnny, Terry Lynn, Richard, Mark, Breanna, and Thomas. Mrs. Turner is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mr. Vines Carlton Gray
Mr. Vines Carlton Gray, age 77, of Cabot, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, February 17, 2004, at St. Vincent Medical Center in Sherwood, Arkansas. Born August 5, 1926, at Guy, Arkansas, he was the son of the late Calvin L. and Vinnie (Ryan) Gray. Mr. Gray had been a resident of Heber Springs for most of his life and was retired from the Cleburne County Hospital. He moved to Cabot in 1988 and was a member of the Christ Worship Center at Cabot. Mr. Gray cared for and helped others, and he enjoyed walking and flowers. He was preceded in death by his father in 1951 and by his mother in 1985. Mr. Gray was also preceded in death by two brothers, Abeles Gray and Wilton Gray, and one sister, Vernell Smith. Survivors include one brother, W. C. Gray of Cabot, AR, one sister, Marvell Smith of Austin, AR, his nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. Mr. Gray was loved by his brother and sister, his nieces and nephews, and his church family, and he loved them as well. Visitation will begin Friday, Feb. 20, at 12:00 noon at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. in Heber Springs. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2:00 P.M. in the Olmstead Chapel in Heber Springs with Rev. Tom Heffner officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Pleasant cemetery at Quitman. Mr. David Crockett Ray
Mr. David Crockett Ray, age 78, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at White County Medical Center in Searcy, Arkansas.Born in Curry County, New Mexico, on May 12, 1925, he was the son of the late Marvin and Donnie Bell (Riley) Ray. Mr. Ray was a former resident of Phoenix, Arizona, and was a retired truck driver and a veteran of the United States Navy. He had lived in Heber Springs for two years and attended the First Assembly of God Church. Mr. Ray was preceded in death by both of his parents, and by two brothers, and two sisters. Survivors include: one son, Byrdy Ray of Phoenix, Arizona, three daughters, Donna White, Carol Anderson, and Rebecca Patchin, all of Heber Springs, AR, eight grandchildren and many great-grandchildren. Mr. Ray is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Lula Maud Davis
Lula Maud Davis, 97, of Modesto, California, died February 17, 2004, at Modesto. Born June 22, 1906, at McAlester, Choctaw Nation, Oklahoma Territory, she was the daughter of Edgar Clay Fish and Cora Mae Garrett Fish. During her lifetime she worked in the health care field and other service related professions. She worked for 20 years for Redwood Theaters in Modesto, California. She was the first manager of the Colonial Inn in Heber Springs, Arkansas. She resided in Cleburne County, Arkansas, for about 40 years until her failing health forced her to move to be with family members. Survivors include three daughters, Doris Marie 'Ginger' Hammond of Ceres, California, Betty Lou McGregor of San Benito, Texas, and Eva Mae Beck of Modesto, California; two stepdaughters, Erma Davis Billings of Yakima, Washington, and Wilma Davis Hoskins of Bethesda, Arkansas; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren and 20 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Albert William 'Smokey' Kirkwood and her husband, Joda Ranson Davis.

Mrs. Martha Emmalene Gateley
Mrs. Martha Emmalene Gateley, age 67, of Rogers, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 18, 2004, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rogers. Born May 19, 1936, at Quitman, Arkansas, she was the daughter of the late Therman Joseph and Lydia (Freeman) Hodges. Mrs. Gateley was raised in Quitman, Arkansas. She was employed by ABF Freight System for thirty-five and a half years as a dispatcher and secretary. Mrs. Gateley was a member of the Temple Baptist Church in Little Rock. She was preceded in death by her husband, Maurice T. Gateley. Survivors include two sons, Gary Wayne Moore and his wife, Claudia Jo, of Mayflower, AR, and J. D. Moore and his wife, Ann, of Rogers, AR, one daughter, Dianne Vaughn of Rogers, AR, one brother, Danny Hodges of Quitman, AR, and three sisters, Villa Lovin and Verl Pike, both of Quitman, AR, and Jean White of Conway, AR, nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mrs. Gateley is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Mr. Charles Freddie Nichols, age 61, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, February 19, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Heber Springs, Arkansas, on February 3, 1943, Mr. Nichols was the son of the late Fred Nichols and Alma Seymore Nichols. Mr. Nichols was a truck driver, and he was a lifetime resident of Heber Springs and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Chris Nichols of Heber Springs, AR, one son, Jonathan Nichols of Heber Springs, AR, three daughters, Pennie Biggerstaff of Sherwood, AR, Candi Pena of Bentonville, AR, and Ashly Miller of Heber Springs, AR, and seven grandchildren, Brandt, Brennan, and Bryce Biggerstaff, Adriane, Myka, and Keelan Pena, and Malachi Miller.Mr. Nichols is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Lena W. 'Lee' Tvedten
Lena W. 'Lee' Tvedten died at her home in rural Quitman, Arkansas, on Thursday, February 19th. She was 89 years old. Mrs. Tvedten was born Lena Wiborg in Copenhagen, Denmark, on June 20, 1914. Her mother Anna, father Jul, and three siblings Erik, Helge, and Ester moved to the U.S. when Lena was 12 years old. She grew up in Titusville, PA, and graduated from Upsala College in New Jersey where she captained her varsity basketball team. It was at Upsala where she met Harold L. Tvedten on a blind date. Harold would become her husband and life-mate and father for her two sons, Thomas H. and Paul L., her only children. The family moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, in the early 50’s where Lee completed her master’s degree in the German language. She taught foreign languages and English in Baton Rouge at the high school level until her retirement at age 65. Her last years have been spent in Arkansas living near her eldest son Tom and his family. Until disability overcame her, Lena spent her retirement time, money, and energy working in and for various charitable causes. As far as her family knows, Lena never made an enemy, forgave all who wronged her, and never uttered an unkind word to or about anyone. She was a loving mother and grandmother, a faithful wife and friend, and a devout Christian. Her life stands as an example of goodness to all who knew her. She will be missed. Lena is survived by her sons Tom of Quitman, AR, and Paul of San Francisco, CA; her grandchildren, Justin, Joel, Hannah, Camille, Noel, Lena, and Thomas; and one great-granddaughter, Destanee.
We offer up her spirit to the Lord. An informal memorial service will be held at Greers Ferry First Presbyterian Church on Sunday, Feb. 22, at 3:00 P.M. Helene (Leni) Kramolis
Helene (Leni) Kramolis of Heber Springs, Arkansas, died suddenly on Monday, February 23, 2004. She was born September 7, 1931, in Krefeld, Germany. She was a resident of Heber Springs for the past thirty-two years. She loved Greers Ferry Lake and taught all her children and grandchildren how to swim. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vladimir; her parents, Hermann and Klara Opgen-Rhein; two brothers, Winfred and Heinz Opgen-Rhein; and two sisters, Marianna Smith and Clara Tillmanns. Survivors include two sons, Andy Kramolis of Heber Springs, AR, and Chris Kramolis and wife, Shannon, of Little Rock, AR, one daughter, Diana Prince of Heber Springs, AR, her grandsons, Brandon Prince, Andrew Kramolis, and Nick Kramolis and his wife, Kayla, one great granddaughter, Kailynn, her twin brother, Paul Opgen-Rhein of Germany, and one sister, Tutti Ziob of Germany. She was a proud member of the Red Hat Society and worked in the community taking care of the elderly for many years. She attended St. Albert’s Catholic Church.

Steven Allen Wilson
Steven Allen Wilson, age 48, of Greers Ferry, Arkansas, passed away Monday, February 23, 2004, at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born October 28, 1955, at Sacramento, California, he was the son of the late Melvin Andrew and Wanda Doris (Edens) Wilson. Steven had been a resident of Greers Ferry for four years and was a former resident of Illinois. He worked as a carpenter for Puddin Ridge Construction and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Steven will be remembered as a kindhearted man who loved fishing and animals and enjoyed riding horses. His religious belief was Baptist. Steven is survived by one son, Timothy Wilson of Sacramento, California, one daughter, Valarie Wilson Wheeler of Sacramento, California, one stepson, Shaun Williams of Greers Ferry, AR, two stepdaughters, Shalyn Evans of California, and Crystal Williams of Greers Ferry, AR, two brothers, Andy Wilson and Danny Wilson, two sisters, Shari Wilson and June Allison, his former wife and best friend, Charlotte Williams of Greers Ferry, AR, his brother-in-law, Arzie Arms of Miami, Oklahoma, three nephews, Andy, Bobby, and Denzil Arms and one niece, Mary Arms. Steven is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Kenneth Bennett
Kenneth Bennett, 65, died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, Tennessee. Born in Perry, Florida, on May 28, 1938, he was the son of the late Joseph Lester and Bessy (Hunter) Bennett.
Kenneth had formerly lived in Greers Ferry for fifteen years, and he had been a resident of Marion for four years. He was a retired commercial painter and a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
He is survived by his wife Sherry Lynne and his best friend Bobbie of West Memphis; two daughters, Melody Brewer of England and Leslie Bennett of Texas; two sons, Tom Bennett of Scott and Joe Bennett of Texarkana, and stepson, Calvin J. Britt of West Memphis, as well as two sisters, Cathleen Simmons of Tennessee and Sara Parker of Florida, and nine grandchildren who loved him dearly.
Kenneth was a devout Christian who loved to fish and hunt. He will always be remembered as Husband, Daddy, and Grandpa. He will never be forgotten.
Graveside services for Mr. Bennett will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 2:00 pm in the Shiloh Cross Roads cemetery. with Rev. Van Harness officiating.

Randy Haven Wright
Randy Haven Wright, age 50, of Higden, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Tuesday, March 2, 2004. Born in Macon, Georgia, on March 14, 1953, he was the son of Roger Haven and Roberta Lucille (Thomas) Wright.Randy had been a resident of Higden since 1979, and he was employed as a maintenance worker for Concord Specialty Corporation in Batesville. Randy enjoyed woodworking. His religious belief was Baptist. Survivors include his parents, Roger and Roberta Wright of Higden, AR, one daughter, Jessica Lynn Fortenberry, one grandson, Alexander Haven Fortenberry, and his aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews. Randy is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Daniel Dupuis
Daniel Dupuis, age 50, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Sunday, February 29, 2004. Born in Grand Bay, Quebec, Canada, on March 6, 1953, he was the son of the late Albert and Rhea (Lambert) Dupuis.
Daniel was a former resident of Branson, Missouri, and he had lived in Heber Springs for ten years. He was a contractor and painter and enjoyed sports and fishing. His religious belief was Catholic.
Daniel is survived by eight sisters, Brigitte Daniel, Michelin Richter, Monique Nezwasky, Michelle Flower, Angele Young, Carmn Clermont, Louise Lunn, and Denise Kreuger and his brother-in-law, Donald C. Brummitt and his nieces and nephews.

Phillip Dean Grace
Phillip Dean Grace, age 48, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Thursday, March 4, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Heber Springs. Born October 5, 1955, at Chillicothe, Missouri, he was the son of Orville and Mildred (Bentley) Grace.
Phillip was married
to the former Diana Maria Turner in 1974. He had recently moved to Heber Springs and was a former resident of Fairfield Bay. Phillip was an advertising sales representative for Crane Media, and he had served as a minister until 1997. Phillip attended the First Assembly of God Church in Heber Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Maria (Turner) Grace of Heber Springs, AR, one son, Phillip Grace, II, of Heber Springs, AR, his parents, Orville and Mildred Grace of Lubbock, Texas, one brother, Stephen Grace and his wife, Louetta of Gracemont, Oklahoma, and one sister, Esther Hutzell and her husband, Len, of Corpus Christi, Texas. Phillip is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held at the family’s home at 409 Hill Crest in Heber Springs, on Saturday, March 6, from 5:00-8:00 P.M. Billy Gene Spinks
Billy Gene Spinks, age 61, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 7, 2004. Born at Drasco, Arkansas, on March 1, 1943, he was the son of Mary Ann (Seymore) Spinks Clark and the late Eugene Edward Spinks.
Mr. Spinks was the owner and operator of Cleburne County Paving. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the U.S. Army, and he was a very active member of the American Legion and V.F.W. A lifetime resident of Cleburne County, Mr. Spinks enjoyed the outdoors and loved fishing and hunting. He was also a good handyman and could fix anything that needed repair. His religious belief was Baptist.
Mr. Spinks is survived by one son, Jody Spinks of Heber Springs, AR, one daughter, Brianna Spinks Nony and her husband, Dr. Paul Nony, of Little Rock, AR, his mother, Mary Ann Clark of Heber Springs, AR, his loving companion, Patsy James of Heber Springs, AR, two brothers, Joe Spinks and Johnny Spinks, both of Heber Springs, AR, one sister, Wanda Hallum of Memphis, Tennessee, and one granddaughter, Audrey Nony. Mr. Spinks is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.

Mrs. Annie Ovene Davis Williams, age 86, of Heber Springs, Arkansas, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, at the White River Medical Center in Batesville, Arkansas. Born at Strawberry, Arkansas, on April 12, 1917, she was the daughter of the late Oliver Asro and Elizabeth Ann (Higgenbottom) Howard.
Mrs. Williams was a homemaker, loving mother, and thoughtful friend. She had been a longtime resident of Heber Springs and was a member of the First Assembly of God. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Joda R. Davis and James R. Williams.
Survivors include two daughters, Erma Billings and her husband, Conley, of Yakima, Washington, and Wilma Hoskins and her husband, Bill, of Batesville, AR, one stepdaughter, Anna Mae Finney of Atwater, California, one brother, Otha Howard of Lake Wales, Florida, six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren. Mrs. Williams is also survived by other relatives and her many friends.

Wayne J. Leary
Wayne J. Leary, age 81, of Fairfield Bay, Arkansas, passed away Friday, March 5, 2004, at Ozark Health Medical Center in Clinton, Arkansas. Born June 21, 1922, at Wells, Minnesota, he was the son of the late James B. and Freda (Blechinger) Leary.
Mr. Leary was a retired Vice-President of Fox Printing Company. He was a pilot during World War II and served as a Lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Air Corp. A resident of Fairfield Bay since 1989, Mr. Leary was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by one daughter, Katie Michuda.
Survivors include his wife, Helen (Bradley) Leary of Fairfield Bay, AR, one son, Patrick Leary and his wife, Melinda, of Cincinnati, Ohio, two daughters, Devon Stiegel and her husband, Robert, of Slinger, Wisconsin, and Mary Jo Zimmerly and her husband, Ken, of Greenwood, Indiana, and ten grandchildren.

Mr. Coy Steven Neighbors
Mr. Coy Steven Neighbors, age 50, of Ida, Arkansas, passed away Tuesday, March 9, 2004, at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock, Arkansas. Born in Kokomo, Indiana, on October 22, 1953, he was the son of Frances (Liles) Neighbors Porter and the late Coy C. Neighbors.
Steve was a truck driver for Caldwell Feeds in Rose Bud, Arkansas. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. Steve had been a resident of Cleburne County most of his life and enjoyed hunting and fishing. His religious belief was Baptist. He was preceded in death by his father and his grandparents, George and Jewely Neighbors and John and Virdie Liles.
Steve is survived by his wife, Kathy (Burleson) Neighbors of Ida, AR, two sons, Scott Neighbors and his wife, Susan, of Rose Bud, AR, and Shawn Neighbors of Ida, AR, his mother, Frances Porter of Heber Springs, AR his stepfather, Otis Porter of Kokomo, Indiana, one brother, Tony Porter of Rose Bud, AR, two sisters, Deana Porter of Mississippi, and Donna Burns of Heber Springs, AR, his step-grandmother, Gwendolin Hendricks of Kokomo, Indiana, and two grandchildren, Johnathan Bell and Ashley Churchwell. Steve is also survived by other relatives and his many friends.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 10, from 6:00-9:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. Funeral services will be held Thursday, March 11, at 10:00 A.M. in the South Cross Roads Church with Rev. Samuel Wildmon and Rev. Doug McClure officiating. Interment will follow in the South Cross Roads cemetery. Pallbearers will be Gary Don Lester, Jarrel Shearer, Lloyd White, Dale Roberts, Dale Southerland, and Wayne Gay. Honorary pallbearers will be John Roberts, Johnny Altom, James Southerland, and Sam Settlemire, Jr. Arrangements are by Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc., 601 W. Main, Heber Springs, AR 72543.
Albert James Peel
Albert James Peel, 88, of Quitman died Tuesday, March 9 at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Almond, Arkansas, on April 10, 1915, to the late Samuel Albert and Margaret Knight Peel. He was one of thirteen children. He was a retired carpenter, farmer, and cattleman. He was a Baptist by faith, but he attended Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church where he formerly was very active in the remodeling and maintenance of the Church. He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Mary Frances Harmon Peel of Quitman, a son, Jim Peel and wife, Wanda, of Quitman, a daughter, Kathy Willis and husband, Karo, of Romance, two grandsons, Rick Peel of Greenbrier and Matthew Bumgartner of Romance, two step-grandsons, Robbie Willis of Quitman and Steve Willis of Heber Springs, one great-granddaughter, Kristy Peel of Little Rock, two sisters, Dorthy Cannon of Drasco and Eva Lee Curtis of Orange, California, and two brothers, Will and Leonard Peel of Drasco.
Visitation will be held Thursday, March 11, from 5:00-7:00 P.M. at Olmstead Funeral Home, Inc. in Heber Springs. Funeral services will be held Friday, March 12, at2:00 P.M. in Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Gordon Lemmings officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Pleasant cemetery.
