Robert Lee Rhodes
Mr. Robert Lee Rhodes, age 49, of Forrest City, died Thursday, March 28, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Rhodes, born Oct. 7, 1952, in Forrest City, was the son of Joe Rhodes Sr. and Freddie Mae Diggs Rhodes.
Mr. Rhodes was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Joe Rhodes Jr.
He is survived by a son, Demone Rhodes of Little Rock; three sisters, Annie F. Brown of Arlington, Va., Freddie Jean Cross of East St. Louis, Ill. and Alvina Rhodes of Forrest City; four brothers, James Rhodes of Forrest City, Calvin Rhodes of Oakland, Tenn., Lee Andrew Rhodes of Los Angeles, Calif. and Albert Rhodes of Memphis; and one granddaughter.
Funeral services for Mr. Rhodes will be held Saturday, April 6, 2002, at 1 p.m. at Summerfield M.B. Church with Rev. Willie C. Moore officiating. Burial will follow in Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.

Eugene Rooks
Mr. Eugene Rooks, age 62, of Memphis, died Saturday, March 30, 2002, at Methodist Hospital-South in Memphis.
Mr. Rooks, born July, 10, 1939, in Forrest City, was a 1957 graduate of Lincoln High School and a had served as a coach at Lincoln High School, Forrest City High School, the University of Arkansas Pine Bluff and with the Memphis City Schools prior to his retirement in October.
Mr. Rooks is survived by his wife, Bettye Rooks, of the home; four daughters, Deborah Beasley of Chicago, Ill., Philita James and Kourtnee Rooks, both of Little Rock and Yolanda Rooks of Memphis and five grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mr. Rooks will be held, Thursday, April 4, 2002, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Clay Funeral Home. A second visitation will be held Friday, April 5, 2002, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., at St. Luke A.M.E. Church. Funeral services for Mr. Rooks will follow at noon at St. Luke A.M.E. Church with Rev. E.J. Outley officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.

Charles Whitsell
Mr. Charles Whitsell, age 54, formerly of Forrest City, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at a Texas hospital.
Mr. Whitsell was retired from H.E.B. Hospital with 10 years of service and from Lennox Air Conditioning after 23 years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Lorraine Whitsell; one son, K.C. Whitsell; two daughters, Kimberly Burkhardt and Kelli Cole; three sisters, Teresa Crities, Kerry Ellison and Sherry Hartman; and eight grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Whitsell will be conducted on Friday, April 5, 2002, from noon to 8 p.m., with the family receiving guest from 5 to 8 p.m., at the Lucas Funeral Home, located at 1321 Precinct Line Rd., Hurst, Texas. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2002, at 10 a.m. at Lucas Funeral Home, with burial following in Shannon Rose Hill Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Lucas Funeral Home.

Janie Sue Britton Hughes
Mrs. Janie Sue Britton Hughes, age 69, of Caldwell, died Thursday, April 4, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.
Mrs. Hughes, born Aug. 5, 1932, in Colt, was the daughter of Earl Britton and Rosie Lee May Britton. She was the office manager for Medical Technology and was retired from Yale Hoist, where she spent 26 years. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Caldwell and served as church treasurer and an Awana leader.
In 1950 Mrs. Hughes married Leon Hughes and he survives her along with a son, Gary Hughes of Caldwell; two daughters, Pam Speer of Caldwell and Deborah Robertson of Pocola, Okla.; two sisters, Ruth Turner and Gracie Duffel, both of Caldwell; a brother, Bransford Britton of Forrest City and six grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Hughes will be held, Friday, April 5, 2002, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Hughes will be held, Saturday, April 6, 2002, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Caldwell with burial following in Hughes Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of Caldwell's Awana program.

John Vernon Woodrome
Mr. John Vernon Woodrome, age 83, of Marianna, died Wednesday, April 3, 2002, at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.
Mr. Woodrome, born Jan. 1, 1919, in Greenbriar, was the son of O.V. Woodrome and Willie Edna Lawrence Woodrome. He lived in Lee County for most of his life, was a retired farmer and a veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years and was a member of Oak Forrest Methodist Church.
In 1941, Mr. Woodrome married Irene Preston Moye Woodrome and she survives him. He is also survived by a daughter, Carol Billingsley of Marianna and a grandson.
Funeral services for Mr. Woodrome were held today, Friday, April 5, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Burial followed in Marianna Memorial Park under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.

Lola Mae Baty
Mrs. Lola Mae Baty, age 86, of 315 Concord in Forrest City, died Monday, April 8, 2002 at Crittenden Memorial Hospital in West Memphis.
She was born Jan, 24, 1916 in the Newcastle Community, the daughter of Turley Davis and Viola George Davis. She was postmaster of Madison for more than 40 years and was a member of the Eastern Star and a member of Madison Baptist Church.
In 1934, she married John Robert Eppes, who preceded her in death in 1955. She was also preceded in death by her second husband, Woodrow Baty.
Mrs. Baty is survived by two daughters, Viola Hollowell and Linda Horton, both of Forrest City, a sister, Vera Dearing of Newcastle, seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, April 9, 2002, from 6 - 9 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2002, at Stevens Funeral Home, with burial following at Forrest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Madison Baptist Church or Bethel Baptist Church.

Malcolm "Jiggs" Gorman Jr.
Mr. Malcolm "Jiggs" Gorman Jr., age 77, of Forrest City, died Friday, April 5, 2002 at his home in Forrest City.
He was born April 12, 1924, in Pine Tree, and was the son of Malcolm O. Gorman Sr. and Myrtle Estelle Collier Gorman. He lived in St. Francis County most of his life, was a welder and blacksmith, and was a member of the Village Creek Baptist Church.
In 1986, Mr. Gorman married Frances Feltman, who survives him along with two daughters, Sandy Holland of Ravenden and Coretta Lassise of Aurora, Colo.; five stepdaughters; a brother, Jerry O. Gorman of Forrest City; two sisters, Mildred Jean Barker of North Little Rock and Betty Kirby of Forrest City, six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Gorman were held at Village Creek Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Monday, April 8, 2002, with burial in Forrest Park Cemetery. Memorials are to be made to Village Creek Baptist Church. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Norma Jean Hambrick
Mrs. Norma Jean McClintock Hambrick, age 71, a lifelong resident of Vanndale and Cherry Valley, died Friday, April 5, 2002 at Crossridge Community Hospital in Wynne.
Mrs. Hambrick was the daughter of William Guy and Bertie Carter McClintock. She was a retired line inspector at Sanyo Manufacturing Co., and a Baptist.
She was married to Howard Mitchell Hambrick, who preceded her in death in 1978. She is survived by a son, Rick Hambrick of Cherry Valley; a daughter, Kim Crumbley of Metropolis, Ill.; a brother, John McClintock of Searcy; five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Carol Leech; a sister Helen McClintock and a brother, Bill McClintock.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 8, 2002 at 10 a.m. at the Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home in Wynne. Burial followed at Akin Cemetery near Vanndale, under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Homes.

Alma Lawless
Mrs. Alma Lawless, age 89, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, July 30, 2002, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mrs. Lawless, born May 29, 1913, in Valley View, Texas, was the daughter of Robert E. Williams and Nettie Jane Burch Williams. She lived in Forrest City for most of her life, was a housewife and member of Bethel Baptist Church.
Mrs. Lawless is survived by two sons, Angelo Hollowell and Tommy Hollowell, both of Forrest City; two daughters, Yvonne Diedering of Victoria, Texas and Wanda Chester of Houston, Texas; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Mrs. Lawless was preceded in death by two husbands, Tom Hollowell, who preceded her in death in 1957 and Harry Lawless who preceded her in death in 1987.
Visitation services for Mrs. Lawless will be held Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Lawless will be held Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, beginning at 10 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home with burial following at Forrest Park Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Daniel Wayne Hamm
Mr. Daniel Wayne Hamm, age 12, of Pine Tree, died Saturday, Aug. 10, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Hamm was born Jan. 22, 1990 in Forrest City, the son of Gary Hamm and Stephanie Wilson Hamm. Mr. Hamm lived in Pine Tree for most of his life.
Mr. Hamm is survived by both his parents; a sister, Samantha Hamm of the home; paternal grandparents, Charles and Martha Hamm of Pine Tree; maternal grandfather, Joseph Wilson of Holland, Mich.; step-grandmother Elaine Wilson of Holland, Mich.; maternal-grandmother, Shirley Thompson of Wynne; step grandfather Harold Thompson of Wynne and his paternal great-grandmother, Letha Basse of West Memphis.
Visitation was held Sunday, Aug. 11, 2002 from 6 to 8 p.m. Services were held Monday, Aug. 12, 2002 at 10:30 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel with burial following in Barnishaw Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of all arrangements.
