William E. "Bill" Roberts
William E. "Bill" Roberts, age 50, of Wynne, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at his home.
He was born Jan. 29, 1949, in Cross County to Joe Roberts Sr. and Willie Mae Cannady Roberts. He was an employee of the Forrest City Fire Department for 20 years, and retired with the rank of Captain. He was also with the St. Francis County Sheriff's Department for 12 years, and was a Baptist.
He is survived by his wife, Mary; two sons, William E. "Bill Jr." Roberts and Brian Roberts, both of Wynne; two brothers, Joe A. Roberts Jr. of Tennessee and Robert G. "Bobby" Roberts of Wynne; and a grandson.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 20, 1999, at Morgan Chapel.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Morgan Chapel with Bro. Gary Chapman officiating. Burial will follow at Harris Chapel Cemetery under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.

Terry Wayne Byrd
Terry Wayne Byrd, age 61, of Clarksdale, Ms., died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999, at The Med in Memphis.
He was born in Leachville, Ark. on May 19, 1938. He was a planter.
He is survived by his wife, Suzanne Centenio Byrd of Clarksdale, Miss.; six daughters, Paulette Byrd of Leachville, Lesa Byrd of Morrilton, Terri Fraizer of Brandon, Miss., Kimberly Byrd Pearson of Alligator, Miss., Jennifer Byrd of Southaven, Miss. and Jessica Byrd of Clarksdale; four sons, Jonathan Byrd of Duncan, Miss., Keith Byrd of Clarksdale, Miss., Barry Byrd of Rena Lara, Miss. and Brian Byrd of Southaven, Miss.; one sister, Moba Lee Miller of Leachville; two brothers, J.T. Byrd of Phoenix, Ariz. and Tommy Byrd of Ft. Mohabi, Ariz.; 11 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Clarksdale on Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at 10:30 a.m. with Father Kent Bowlds officiating with burial following in Leachville Cemetery in Leachville, Ark. Visitation will be held Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. at St. Elizabeth Church with a wake at 7 p.m.

Ina (Granny) Hill
Ina (Granny) Hill, age 86, formerly of Palestine, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, in Denham Springs, La., where she lived with her son.
She was born Oct. 3, 1912, in Palestine and was the daughter of Frank and Belle 'Scott' Sulaw.
She is survived by two sons, Sanford Astin of Denham Springs, La. and Stanley Astin of Wilderman, Calif.; one daughter, Nora Belle Schade of Virginia Beach, Va. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Hill; one sister, Ruth Pannell and one son, Scott Astin.
Visitation will be held at the First Baptist Church on Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, with Rev. George Thorpe officiating with burial following in Bell Cemetery.

James "Don" Purtee
James "Don" Purtee, age 58, of Webster, Texas, died Sunday, Sept. 19, 1999.
He was retired from I.B.M. after 30 years of service and was currently serving as a director for the Harris County Municipal Utility District #55.
He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Judith Purtee of the home; one daughter, Jessica Cline; one son, Jim Purtee Jr.; and one granddaughter.
Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at Forest Park East Chapel under the direction of Forest Park East Funeral Home of Webster. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Attn: A.L.S.A.C., Memphis, Tenn. 38105.

Ina (Granny) Hill
Ina (Granny) Sulcer Hill, age 86, formerly of Palestine, died Saturday, Sept. 18, 1999, in Denham Springs, La., where she lived with her son.
She was born Oct. 3, 1912, in Palestine and was the daughter of Frank and Belle 'Scott' Sulcer.
She is survived by two sons, Sanford Astin of Denham Springs, La. and Stanley Astin of Wilderman, Calif.; one daughter, Nora Belle Schade of Virginia Beach, Va.; 14 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

George Jackson Conwell
George Jackson Conwell. age 52, of St. Louis, Mo., died Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, at Crestpark Skilled Nursing Home. He was formerly of Forrest City, and was retired from General Motors Company after 25 years.
He is survived by his mother, Myrtle Conwell of Haynes; a daughter, Twyla Conwell of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Hyton Conwell Jr. of Haynes and Roy Conwell of Forrest City; and four sisters, Mimmie Conwell of St. Louis, Mo., Aretha Blanchnett of Haynes, Eva Mason and Geoiga Tyus, both of Forrest City.
Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Kennedy Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Eddie Mosby officiating. With burial to follow in Shady Grove Cemetery with Kennedy Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Eliza Jane Pendelton
Eliza Jane Pendelton, age 77, of Madison, died Wednesday, Sept. 22, 1999, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
She was born Aug. 10, 1922, in Round Pond to Tom and Nancy Thompson. She was a homemaker.
She is survived by her husband, Robert Pendelton Sr.; two sons, Robert Pendelton Jr. of Madison and Barry Pendelton of Forrest City; six daughters, Varry Surratt and Ruby Johnson, both of Pine Bluff, Martha McNeary of Forrest City, Mae Bell Washington of St. Louis, Mo., Stella Carr of Madison, Lessie Driver of San Diego, Ca.; two brothers, Lucuish Thompson of St. Louis, Mo., William Thompson of Chattanooga, Tenn.; a sister, Pauline Starks of Oakfield, Tenn.; 34 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Clay Funeral Home.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 25, 1999, at Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Marland Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Whitmore Cemetery with Clay Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

James Aaron 'J.A.' Brewer
James Aaron 'J.A.' Brewer, age 54, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at the Cross County Hospital in Wynne.
He was born May 17, 1945, in Belton, Texas, to Edward and Maggie Stokes Brewer. He lived in St. Francis County most all of his life and was a security guard supervisor for Muller Industries.
He married Eugenia Lawrence in 1978, and she survives him along with two daughters, Jean Vick and Leella Sodachanh, both of Forrest City; three brothers, Charles Brewer and Donnie Brewer, both of Palestine, and Jerry Brewer of Forrest City; one sister, Maxine Burton of West Memphis, and a host of friends.
Visitation will be Thursday, Sept. 23, 1999, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, with burial to follow at Bell Cemetery in Palestine with Stevens Funeral Home in charge of the arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to the Peggy Sisco Heart Transplant Fund.

Christine West Drexler
Christine West Drexler, age 84, of Wynne, died Tuesday, Sept. 21, 1999, at her home.
She was born June 12, 1915 in Gill and was the daughter of Richard D. West and Mary E. Cox West. She was a former resident of St. Francis County and a graduate of Forrest City High School. She was a member of the Wynne Music Club and the Wynne Presbyterian Church.
She is survived by her husband, David Drexler of Wynne; and one brother, Gordon E. West of Houston, Texas. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard M. West and Leonard F. West and two sisters, Helen W. Rich and Lora West Gatten.

James Milton Braddock Sr.
James Milton Braddock Sr., age 81, of Palestine, died Friday, Sept. 24, 1999, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Wynne.
He was born April 6, 1918, in Brownsville, Miss., to James and Alma Braddock. He lived in St. Francis County for the past 25 years, and was a retired truck driver for G & H Transportation in Widener.
He is survived by two daughters, Donna Smith of Forrest City, and Linda McCoy of Wynne; a brother, Leland Braddock of Ormon Beach, Fla.; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A son, James Braddock Jr. preceded him in death in 1990.
Services were held Sunday, Sept. 26, 1999, with burial at Bell Cemetery in Palestine. Stevens Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
