Wallace Mayfield
Mr. Wallace Mayfield, age 66, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Crestpark Retirement Inn in Forrest City.
Mr. Mayfield, born July 19, 1935, in Wynne, was the son of Jessie Mayfield and Alberta Mayfield. He was a retired machinist with Yale Hoist and an Air Force veteran.
Mr. Mayfield is survived by a brother, Mark Mayfield of Texarkana; and four sisters, Mary L. Mayfield of Pontiac, Mich., Verna Bello of Chicago, Ill., Lisa Caselberry of Prairie View, Ill. and Magdalene Moore of St. Louis, Mo.
Visitation services for Mr. Mayfield will be held, Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, from 2 to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Clay Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mr. Mayfield will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at 3 p.m. at Beth Salem Baptist Church with Rev. Wade Taylor officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.

Sarah "Dola" Woodard
Mrs. Sarah "Dola" Woodard, age 98, of Madison, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2002, at the Specialty Hospital in West Covina, Calif.
Mrs. Woodard, born Dec. 18, 1903, in Carthage, Miss., is survived by five sons, J.C. Woodard of Fayetteville, N.C., Jesse Woodard of Forrest City, and Winston Woodard, Vernell Woodard and Linell Woodard, all of Pomona, Calif.; four daughters, Ruby King of Detroit, Mich., Lorraine Franklin of Forrest City, Earline Foster of Indianapolis, Ind. and Lynn Woodard of Madison; 64 grandchildren; 72 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great grandchild.
Visitation services for Mrs. Woodard will be held, Friday, Feb. 1, 2002, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Chapel of Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Woodard will be held Saturday, Feb. 2, 2002, at 11 a.m. at Madison Light Baptist Church with Rev. Charles E. Franklin officiating. Burial will follow in Paradise Garden Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.

Hosea Gray
Mr. Hosea Gray, age 83, of Colt, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Gray is survived by one daughter, Lena Hutchins of Memphis; one son, Archie Davis of Forrest City; one sister, Christine Hancock of Colt; and four grandchildren.
Funeral service for Mr. Gray will be conducted on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 1:30 p.m., at Mt. Moriah M.B. Church in Colt. Burial will follow in Clark Cemetery in Colt, under the direction of Jackson-Highley Funeral Home of West Helena.

Michael Green
Mr. Michael Green, age 42, of Forrest City, died Friday, Dec. 28, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Green was born April 4, 1959, in Forrest City and was a laborer.
He is survived by his mother, Willie Mae Green of Forrest City; two brothers, Danny L. Green of Forrest City and Victor Green of St. Louis, Mo.; and three sisters, Ruthie McGhee, Icyphine Green and Dorothy Poole, all of Forrest City.
Funeral services for Mr. Green will be conducted Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at 12 p.m., at the United Christian M.B. Church, with Rev. Norris Latham, Jr. officiating the service. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.

Monroe Pointer Sr.
Mr. Monroe Pointer, Sr., age 92, of Dansby, died Saturday, Dec. 29, 2001, at the Helena Regional Medical Center in Helena.
Mr. Pointer is survived by his wife, Birnether Pointer of the home; one daughter, Evelyn Gaines of Marianna; two sons, Monroe Pointer, Jr., of Dansby and Theodis Pointer, Sr. of Marianna.
Funeral services for Mr. Pointer will be conducted Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at 1 p.m., at the Church of the Living God in Dansby with burial following in the Dansby Cemetery, under the direction of Jackson-Highley Funeral Home in West Helena.

Clenzy Rodgers
Mr. Clenzy Rodgers, age 84, of Forrest City, died Monday, Dec. 31, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital-Forrest City.
Mr. Rodgers was a retired laborer and was also a member of Christ Temple Church in Forrest City.
He is survived by four daughters, Stella Hill and Betty Williams, both of Forrest City, Patricia Jones and Mary Hodges, both of Kansas City, Kan.; one son, Robert Rodgers, Sr., of West Memphis; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Rodgers will be held Friday, Jan. 4, 2002, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday, Jan. 6, 2002, at 2 p.m., at Christ Temple, with Elder Thomas Holloway officiating the service. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.

Vryl D. Burghart
Mr. Vryl Dean Burghart, aged 72, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita, Kans.
He was born Jan. 18, 1929 in Chanute, Kans., the son of Ralph J. Burghart and Minnie R. Debler Burghart. He graduated from Chanute Junior College in 1948, and served in the U.S. Army in Germany. After returning to Kansas, he received a Masters Degree in Education and taught school in Russell, Kans. He also lived in California for a time, before returning to Kansas in 2000.
In July of 2000 he married Nadine Brinkmeyer Burghart, who survives him.
Mr. Burghart is also survived by two brothers, Earl D. Burghart of Forrest City and Karl Burghart of Orange Park Fla.; a sister, Phyllis Nordt of Chanute; four step-children, Shirley Baron of Montana, Rebecca Brinkmeyer and Vicky Brinkmeyer, both of Wichita,Kans. and Dwight Brinkmeyer of Falls River, Kans.; seven step grandchildren, several step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Chanute, with Rev. Scott Lemmermann officiating. Burial followed at the Altoona Cemetery with an honor guard provided by American Legion Post 170. Gibson-Koch-Friskel Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
The family requests that memorials be made to Zion Lutheran Church 1202 West Main, Chanute, Kans. 66720.

Bill Burton
Mr. Bill Burton, age 53, of Cherry Valley, died Thursday, Jan. 3, 2002, at Cross Ridge Community Hospital in Wynne.
Mr. Burton was born March 10, 1948, in Wynne, and was a lab technician in the research and development lab at Rubatex Corporation in Colt. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Wynne Baptist Church.
Mr. Burton was preceded in death by his father, George Leroy Burton.
He is survived by his wife, Vickie Johnson Burton of Cherry Valley; two sons, George David Burton and Matthew Brian Burton, both of Wynne; his mother, Jessie Marie Weeks Burton of Wynne; three brothers, Rodney Burton and Bobby Burton, both of Wynne, and Donald Burton of Jonesboro; and one sister, Betty Ramsey of Wynne.
Funeral services for Mr. Burton were held Saturday, Jan. 5, 2002, at the Wynne Baptist Church, with Dr. Wes George and O'dell McCallum officiating. Burial followed in Halk Cemetery near Wynne, under the direction of Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne.
The family request memorials be sent to the Wynne Baptist Church Mission Fund.

Ruby Rudick Matlock
Mrs. Ruby Rudick Matlock, aged 82, a long-time resident of the Augusta and Woodruff County Area, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2002 at Central Arkansas Hospital in Searcy.
She was born Nov. 21, 1919 in Big Flat, and was the daughter of the late Floyd E. and Annie Bell Branscum Rudick. They later moved to Hilleman. In 1945, she married Floyd Matlock. They moved to Augusta in 1967. Mr. Matlock preceded her in death in 1985.
Mrs. Matlock was as member of the Grace Baptist Church in Augusta and was a housewife.
She is survived by a daughter, Sally Ann Matlock Hudson of Fort Worth, Texas; two sons, Gilbert Matlock of Forrest City and Dolen Matlock of Conway; a brother, Calvin Rudick of Marysville, Ind.; a sister, Bernice Dunkin of Drasco; nine grandchildren, five great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Earl, Claude and Clarence Rudick and a sister, Verdi Baty.
Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 7, 2002, at Grace Baptist Church in Augusta, with Rev. Steven Beavers officiating. Burial followed in Cotton Plant Cemetery, under the direction of Thompson-Wilson Funeral Home.
The family requests that memorials be made to Grace Baptist Church, 806 Gregory, Augusta.

Roger Preston Charles
Mr. Roger Preston Charles, age 50, of Forrest City, died Monday, Jan. 7, 2002 at his home.
Mr. Charles, born Jan. 1, 1952, in Forrest City, was the son of Lawrence William Charles and Lula Mae McDonald Charles. He was a chef and lived in Forrest City for most of his life.
Mr. Charles is survived by a brother, William Lee Charles of Tupelo, Miss.
A memorial service for Mr. Charles will be held at a later date for family and friends under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
