Jake Humphrey Jr.
Mr. Jake Humphrey Jr., age 74, of Forrest City, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Humphrey was born Aug. 18, 1928, in Widener. He was a retired machine operator at Halstead.
Mr. Humphrey is survived by his wife, Mae Gratis Humphrey; four sons, Leo Humphrey and James Earl Humphrey both of Forrest City, Jake Humphrey III and Mark Anthony Humphrey both of Little Rock; three daughters, Bobbie Clark of Dayton, Ohio, Ida Faye Bohannon Humphrey and Rose Mary Humphrey both of Little Rock; five sisters, Lillie Mae Holmes of Forrest City, Joella Moore, Ophelia Dortch, Versie Mae Humphrey and Rose Ella Humphrey all of Chicago, Ill; 18 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Humphrey will be held Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at 11 a.m. at the New Light M. B. Church with Rev. Jessie McClure officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.

Douglas F. Jones
Mr. Douglas F. Jones, age 66, of Marianna and formerly of Hughes, died Saturday, Sept. 21, 2002 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Memphis.
Mr. Jones is survived by his wife, Pearlene Jones of Marianna; four sons, Glenn Jones, Marvin Jones and Rodney Jones all of Houston, Texas and Douglas E. Jones of Marianna; four sisters, Deloris Isabell of Memphis, Ida Brown and Linda Wilburn of St. Louis, Mo. and Claudine Grant of Los Angeles, Calif.; one brother, Cleotis Carter of St. Louis, Mo.; and 11 grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Jones will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Bethlehem M. B. Church in Marianna. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Bethlehem M.B. Church with burial in the church cemetery following. The Anthony Funeral Home in Anthonyville is in charge of all arrangements.

Rev. Monroe Smith
Rev. Monroe Smith, age 81, of Forrest City and formerly of West Memphis, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Rev. Smith is survived by two sons, Arvee Smith of Marion, Ind., and Monroe Smith Jr. of Chicago Ill.; two daughters, Diane Brumfield of Maywood, Ill., and Vivian Smith of Chicago Ill.; one sister, Rev. Rosetta Gatewood of Forrest City; and five grandchildren.
Visitation for Rev. Smith will be held Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Anthony - West Memphis Funeral Home Chapel North. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, at the 15th Street Church of God in Christ in West Memphis. Burial will follow in Paradise Garden Cemetery under the direction of Anthony Funeral Home South in West Memphis.

James Walker Sr.
Mr. James Walker Sr., age 76, of Forrest City, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Walker was born March 10, 1926, in Forrest City. He was a retired fork lift driver.
Mr. Walker is survived by his wife, Augusta Walker; two sons, James Walker Jr. and Eugene Walker both of Forrest City; three daughters, Louise Fields, Angela Walker and Alberta Hayes all of Forrest City; one sister Dorothy Dunlow of Moreno Valley, Calif.; 18 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Walker will be held Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mr. Walker will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at 2 p.m. at United Christian M. B. Church with Rev. Theodis Cochran Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.

Rhonda Ann Ramsey
Mrs. Rhonda Ann Ramsey, age 33, of Colt, died Thursday, Sept. 26, 2002.
Mrs. Ramsey was born Sept. 2, 1969, the daughter of Albert Kampert and Willadean Thigpen Kampert. She was a housewife and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ Latter Day Saints of West Memphis.
Mrs. Ramsey is survived by her husband, Greg Ramsey; two sons, Scottie Ramsey and Rusty Ramsey; one daughter, Ashley Ramsey; and her parents of Belleveere, Ill.
Visitation for Mrs. Ramsey will be held Friday, Sept. 27, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Morgan Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral services for Mrs. Ramsey will be held Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002 at 2 p.m. at Morgan Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Fred Dover officiating. Burial will follow at Bell Cemetery in Palestine under the direction of Morgan Funeral Home.

Rev. Monroe Smith
Rev. Monroe Smith, age 81, of Forrest City and formerly of West Memphis, died Wednesday, Sept. 18, 2002, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.

Wilma Adeana Denton
Mrs. Wilma Adeana Denton, age 68, of Forrest City, died Monday, Sept. 2, 2002, at Methodist Central Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Denton was born March 31, 1935, in Jonesboro, the daughter of John Jasper Hall and Bertha Nelson Hall. She lived in Forrest City for most of her life, was retired from G&H Transportation and a member of the Oak Hill Church of God.
Mrs. Denton married L.E. Denton in 1947 and he survives her along with three sons, Mitchell Denton, Steve Denton and Greg Denton all of Forrest City; one daughter, Deana Ballard of Forrest City; one brother, Hal Hall of Jonesboro and seven grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Denton will be held Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002 at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel from 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at Oak Hill Church of God on Thursday, Sept. 5, 2002 at 2 p.m. Burial will follow in Forrest Park Cemetery, under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Henry E. Fondren Sr.
Mr. Henry E. Fondren Sr., age 88, of Mobile, Ala., died Sunday, Sept. 1, 2002, at his home.
Mr. Fondren, a native and former resident of Forrest City, was the former manager of the Forrest City Water Utility and had been a resident of Mobile for the past 26 years. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jewell A. Fondren of Mobile, Ala.; a daughter, Priscilla Turner of Collierville, Tenn.; two sons, Harry E. Fondren Jr., of Casper, Wyo., and Micheal W. Fondren of Nashville, Tenn., and three grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Fondren will held Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2002, at 11 a.m. in the Chapel of Magnolia Funeral Home in Mobile. Burial will follow in Pine Crest Cemetery under the direction of Magnolia Funeral Home of Mobile, Ala.

Raymond Earl (Pete) Coleman
Mr. Raymond Earl "Pete" Coleman, age 58, of Parkin, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in Jonesboro.
Mr. Coleman, a retired forklift driver, is survived by a daughter, Sheila Coleman of Parkin; a son, Mark Coleman of Parkin; two sisters, Jannie Steele of Nashville and Shirley Shinault of Aurora, Ill., and a brother, Junior Coleman of Colt. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Coleman.
Visitation services for Mr. Coleman will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, from 6 to 9 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church in Earl. Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at 3 p.m. at First Assembly of God Church with burial following in Parkin Cemetery in Parkin under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Memphis.
The family requests memorials be sent to First Assembly of God Church in Earle.

Sofia Hernandez Martinez
Mrs. Sofia Hernandez Martinez, age 72, of Hughes, died Saturday, Sept. 28, 2002, in her home.
Mrs. Martinez, born Sept. 30, 1929, in Brownsville, Texas, was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church. She is survived by a daughter, Maria Edwards of Perryville; a son, Johnny Martinez of Hughes; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Rual Martinez.
Funeral services for Mrs. Martinez will be held Wednesday, Oct. 2, 2002, at St. Mary's Catholic Church with Father Ed Graves officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery under the direction of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home of West Helena.

Donna Jeanne Young
Mrs. Donna Jeanne Young, age 62, of Palestine, died Sunday, Sept. 29, 2002, at her home.
Mrs. Young was born July 21, 1940, in Falmouth, Mass., the daughter of Al Allen and June Johnson Allen. She lived in Palestine for the past six years and was a housewife.
Mrs. Young married Bert H. Young in 1955 and he survives her along with two sons, Danny Young of Desoto, Ill., and Steve Young of Wheatley; a daughter, Jesslyn Holland of Ravenden; two brothers, Raymond Allen of Wynne and David Allen of Massachusetts; two sisters, June Allen of Massachusetts, and Ruth Sharon Allen of Alabama; 10 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Young will be held Monday, Sept. 30, 2002, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2002, at 2 p.m. at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow in Bell Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
