Vernell Nash
Mr. Vernell Nash, age 70, of Haynes, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at Crestpark Nursing Home in Forrest City.
Mr. Nash was a member of the Union Male Chorus.
He is survived by two sisters, Jeanette Holland, of Haynes, Annie Turner, of Detroit, Mich.; three brothers, Robert Nash, of Forrest City, Douglas Nash, of Milwaukee, Wis. and Joe Nash, of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Visitation services for Mr. Nash will be Friday, Dec. 1, 2000, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Kennedy Chapel Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, at 3 p.m., at Union M.B. Church in Haynes, with the Reverends Ted Austin and O.B. Brown officiating. Burial will follow at Clay Hill Cemetery. Kennedy Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Arena Poole Williams
Mrs. Arena Poole Williams, age 77, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Mrs. Williams, born Sept. 7, 1923, in Widener, was the daughter of Andrew Poole and Cornelia Smith Poole.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death in 1986 by her husband, Amos Williams Sr. She is survived by 10 daughters, Ethel Davis, Joann Ivory, Shirley Williams, Carolyn Stidum, Addie Hare, Dianne Evans, Katharine Kidd, Elizabeth Williams, Beverly Hampton, all of Forrest City, Cornelia Jones, of Little Rock; seven sons, Odell Williams, Charles Williams, both of St. Louis, Mo., Amos Williams Jr., Danell Williams, Alfred Williams, Roosevelt Williams, Jeffery Williams, all of Forrest City; two sisters, Inez Woodard, of Forrest City, Leomia Bonds, of Palestinel a brother, Henry Poole, of Hillsburg, Ill.; 36 grandchildren, 44 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Williams will be Saturday, Dec. 2, 2000, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be held Sunday, Dec. 3, 2000, at 12:30 p.m. at Summerfield M.B. Church with Rev. David Neal officiating. Burial will follow at Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.

Jeffie Jean Downey
Ms. Jeffie Jean Downey, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2000.
Ms. Downey was born Aug. 1, 1924, in Forrest City, to J. F. Downey and Alberta Milton Downey Brown. She lived in Forrest City all of her life. She was a member of the Forrest Chapel United Methodist Church.
Ms. Downey is survived by a sister, Louise Crow, of Forrest City.
A graveside service for Ms. Downey will be held Thursday, Nov. 9, 2000, at Forrest Park Cemetery at 2 p.m. Rev. Berlon Davis will officiate the service. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Ellen Elzora Steele
Mrs. Ellen Elzora Steele, age 89, of West Memphis, died Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000, at Beverly Healthcare in West Memphis.
Mrs. Steele was a retired sewing room manager at Dacus Casket Co. and a member of the First Baptist Church of West Memphis.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Harry R. Steele. Mrs. Steele is survived by four daughters, Alice L. Knowlton, of Ft. Myers, Fla., Ruby Sanders, of West Memphis, Dorothy Elliott, of Ellettsville, Ind., Betty J. Mills, of Rosemark, Tenn.; a son, Claude R. "Shortie" Steele, of West Memphis; a sister, Velva Melton, of Forrest City; two brothers, Augustus Colvin, Lawrence Colvin, both of Forrest City; 17 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Steele will be Friday, Nov. 10, 2000, at 1 p.m., in the Chapel of Roller-Citizens Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Crittenden Memorial Park Cemetery in Marion. Roller-Citizens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
The family asks that all memorials be made to the First Baptist Church of West Memphis.

Fred Turner
Mr. Fred Turner, age 72, of North Little Rock, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.
Mr. Turner was a retired Air Force veteran and was a trustee and assistant Sunday School superintendent at Bethel A.M.E. Church in North Little Rock.
Mr. Turner is survived by two sons, James Butler, of Little Rock, Brandon Weatherspoon, of Colt; a daughter, Bertha Bruce, of Detroit, Mich.; two brothers, Hurley Turner, of Colt, Herbert Turner, of Magnolia; four sisters, Hazel Robinson, Myrtle Orange, both of 12 twelve great grandchildren.
Visitation for Mr. Turner will be Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, from 7 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Watson Northcrest Funeral Home in North Little Rock. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at 11 a.m. at Bethel A.M.E. Church in North Little Rock with burial following in National Cemetery under the direction of Watson Northcrest Funeral Home.

David Lee Wright
Mr. David Lee Wright, age 50, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Oct. 10, 2000, at Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Wright, born Oct. 14, 1949, in St. Francis County, was the son of Louis Mathew Wright and Mable Irene Breeden Wright. He lived in Forrest City most of his life. He was an office clerk for the Silver Horseshoe Motel in Memphis and was a Baptist.
Mr. Wright is survived by five brothers, L. M. Wright Jr., of Forrest City, Donald Wright, of Memphis, Billy Wright, of Collierville, Robert Wright and Solomon Wright, both of Byhalia, Miss.; and four sisters, Janice Mitchell of Trenton, Tenn., Myrtle Weatherly, of Hazen, Betty Nelson, of Kansas and Ann Hill, of Missouri.
Graveside services for Mr. Wright will be held Friday, Oct. 13, 2000, at 11 a.m., at Forrest Park Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, Oct. 12, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Chapel of Stevens Funeral Home. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Albert Rogers Jr.
Mr. Albert Rogers Jr., age 72, of Forrest City, died Monday, Oct. 9, 2000, in his home.
Mr. Rogers, born May 14, 1928, in Clark Corner, was the son of Albert Rogers Sr. and Viola Shackleford Rogers. He was a retired cement finisher and a farmer. He was also a member of St. John Baptist Church in Madison.
Mr. Rogers is survived by his wife, Barbara Rogers; five daughters, Angela Rogers, Sheila Rogers, both of Denver, Colo., Clarena Jordan, of Forrest City, Teresa Rogers, of Fresno, Calif., Jennifer Kelley, of Washington; seven sons, Bobby Rogers, Alex Rogers, Christopher Rogers, Terry Rogers, Timothy Rogers, all of Denver, Colo., Jason Kelley, Jonathan Kelley, both of Forrest City; six sisters, Catherine Morgan, of Gary, Ind., Ethel Phipps, of Fresno, Calif., Ernestine Sims, Derotha Winfrey, both of Forrest City, Dorothy Phillips, of Omaha, Neb., Ora Bell Scott, of Denver, Colo.; five brothers, Nathaniel Rogers, Floyd Rogers, James Rogers, Harold Rogers, all of Forrest City, Aaron Rogers, of St. Louis, Mo.; and 15 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Donald Rogers; three brothers, Napolean Rogers, Clarence Rogers, Henry Rogers; and a sister, Ruby Rogers.
A memorial service for Mr. Rogers will be held, Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at 2 p.m. at St. John Baptist Church in Madison, with Rev. James L. Brooks officiating. Woodhouse Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Fred Turner
Mr. Fred Turner, age 72, of North Little Rock, died Sunday, Oct. 8, 2000.

John Gilbert Chipman
Mr. John Gilbert Chipman, age 92, of Palestine, died Saturday, Oct. 14, 2000, at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.
Mr. Chipman, born Oct. 15, 1907, in Palestine was the son of George Chipman and Sophronia Howton Chipman. He lived in Palestine all of his life. He was a farmer and was retired from the A.S.C.S. Department. He was a member of the Salem Methodist Church.
In 1931 Mr. Chipman married Edith Johnson and she preceded him death in 1984. He is survived by two sons, George Chipman of Palestine, Ron Chipman, of Memphis; a daughter, Delores Jumper, of Palestine; a sister, Eunice Gwathney of Oklahoma; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by a son, Aubrey Chipman in 1986, and a daughter, Tolise Nosler in 1979.
Funeral Services for Mr. Chipman were today at Salem Methodist Church. Burial followed in Salem Cemetery under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.

Ralph W. Thompson
Mr. Ralph W. Thompson of Forrest City died Sunday, Oct. 15, 2000, at his home. He was 69.
Mr. Thompson was born Aug. 28, 1931, in England, Ark. He was the son of John M. Thompson and Mary Sherman Thompson. He was a graduate of Dyess High School. Mr. Thompson was a school administrator and former coach, and had coached at Vanndale, McCrory, Hughes and Wilson. He was presently the purchasing agent for the Forrest City Public Schools. He was a member of the Lindauer Road Church of Christ, School Masters Association and was a Sunday School teacher.
Mr. Thompson was married to Beverly Turner in 1955. She survives him along with one son, John W. Thompson of Fayetteville; one daughter, Cheryl Daniels of Conway; one sister, Nita Barnes of Nashville, Tenn., and four grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mr. Thompson will be held at the Lindauer Road Church of Christ on Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2000, at 10 a.m. Joe Arnold and Rex Darling will officiate the service with burial following at Mt. Vernon Cemetery in Forrest City under the direction of Stevens Funeral Home.
Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, Oct. 16, 2000. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Forrest City Education Foundation, Church of Christ or the First United Methodist Church.
