Viola "Pete" Grantham
Mrs. Viola "Pete" Grantham, age 76, of Wynne, died Friday, Jan. 26, 2001.
Mrs. Grantham was born on Feb. 7, 1924, in Waterloo, Ala. She was the daughter of Clarence H. Eppes and Pearl Craven Eppes. Mrs. Grantham was a retired bus driver for the Wynne School District and was a housewife. She was a member of Good Sam's Crowley's Ridge Runners, and a member of Wynne Church of Christ.
Mrs. Grantham was preceded in death by a daughter, Connie Brown; three brothers, C.H. Eppes, Jr., Kenneth Eppes, and Jerry Eppes.
She is survived by her husband, Raymond H. Grantham, of Wynne; a son, Danny Grantham, of Wynne; two sisters, Pauline Cowan, of Wynne, and Odessa Holt, of Rochell, Ill.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held today at 2 p.m. in Kernodle Funeral Home in Wynne, Burial followed in Harris Chapel Cemetery. The family requests all memorials be made to the American Cancer Society.

Ervin W. Johnson
Mr. Ervin W. Johnson, age 84, of Heber Springs, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at Lakeland Lodge in Heber Springs.
Mr. Johnson, born May 4, 1916, was the son of Thomas Johnson and Pearl Cullum Johnson. He was a retired service station owner and lived in Heber Springs most of his life. He was also a member of the First Assembly of God Church in Heber Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Nadine Tapley Johnson, of Heber Springs; two daughters, Barbara Robbins, of West Memphis, Betty Montesi, of Little Rock; a sister, Opal Goff, of Heber Springs and one grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Johnson are scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, at 10 a.m. in the Olmstead Chapel with Rev. Ron Kelley officiating. Graveside services and Burial will take place at 2:30 p.m. at Forrest Park Cemetery in Forrest City under the direction of Olmstead Funeral Home of Heber Springs.

Mary Douglas
Mrs. Mary Douglas, age 84, of Marianna, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital.
Mrs. Douglas was a homemaker. She is survived by a daughter, Gloria Berry, of North Little Rock; five sons, Herman Douglas, Melvin Douglas, both of Chicago, Ill., Carl Douglas, of Manhattan, Kan., James Douglas, Fred Douglas, both of Marianna; three sisters, Mary Butler, of St. Louis, Vora Bell Foster , of Oak Forrest, Pearlie Mae Jones, of Marianna; 11 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation services for Mrs. Douglas will be Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral services for Mrs. Douglas will be Saturday Jan. 6, 2001, at noon, at Bethleham M.B. Church. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Cemetery under the direction of Kennedy Funeral Home.

Helen Chambliss Lines
Mrs. Helen Chambliss Lines, age 82, formerly of Forrest City, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, in Searcy.
Mrs. Lines was born on July 13, 1918, in Forrest City. She was the daughter of Russell Williams and Sadie Borden Williams. Mrs. Lines had lived in Phoenix, Ariz., before moving back to Forrest City and then to Searcy. She was a housewife and a member of Graham Memorial Presbyterian Church.
Mrs. Lines married Richard Lines in 1936, and he preceded her in death in 1992. She is survived by a daughter, Chambliss Lines of Searcy; a sister, Margie Russell Whittenton of Forrest City; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held for Mrs. Lines on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at 11 a.m., in Mt. Vernon Cemetery, with the Rev. Harry Young officiating the service. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Henry Surginer
Mr. Henry Surginer, age 74, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Jan. 28, 2001, at Baptist Hospital-East in Memphis.
Mr. Surginer was born on June 9, 1926, in Forrest City, and was the son of Dave Surginer and Cora P. Surginer. He was a member of the Jolly Elders, and was a member of Second Baptist Church.
Mr. Surginer married Anita Devasier and she preceded him in death. He is survived by several friends and a host of church family.
Visitation for Mr. Surginer will be held Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, from 6 to 8 p.m., at Stevens Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held for Mr. Surginer on Wednesday, Jan. 31, 2001, at 10 a.m., at the Hughes Cemetery. Stevens Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Leslie Williams
Mr. Leslie Williams, age 53, of Forrest City, died Monday, Jan. 29, 2001, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mr. Williams was born May 1, 1947, in Tillatoba, Miss., the son of Ruthie Bradford. He was the director of Counseling Services of Eastern Arkansas, and he was also a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Mr. Williams is survived by his wife, Gwendolyn C. Williams of Forrest City; two sons, Jason Williams and Justen Williams, both of Forrest City; his mother; six brothers, L. C. Poole of Hayward, Calif., Joe Williams of Forrest City, John Williams and Glen Williams, both of Memphis, Charles Williams of San Francisco and Huley Williams of Charleston, Miss.; seven sisters, Cleotha Flowers and Lizzie Matherson, both of Milwaukee, Wis., Girdine Smith of Charleston, Miss., Christine Dumas of Riverdale, Ill., Essie Bland of Chicago, Ill., and Bessie Reed and Winnie Mae Johnson, both of Memphis and one grandchild.
Funeral services for Mr. Williams will be Friday, Feb. 2, 2001, at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Ronald Williams officiating. Burial will follow at Forrest City Cemetery under the direction of Clay Funeral Home.

Neva Blackard
Mrs. Neva Blackard, age 91, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at St. Benard Hospital in Jonesboro.
Mrs. Blackard was born March 31, 1909. She was the daughter of Robert Delon Frost and Martha Ona King Frost. She lived in Forrest City most of her life, moving here from Clarksville. Mrs. Blackard was a retired school teacher, an artist, and a Methodist.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jackie Blackard, in 1991, and her husband, Marvin Jack Blackard, in 1996.
Mrs. Blackard is survived by a brother, Wylie Frost, of Forrest City; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Blackard will be held on Thursday, Jan. 4, 2001, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., at Morgan Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, at 9 a.m., at Morgan Chapel, with the Rev. Rex Darling officiating. Morgan Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m., in Clarksville, at the Oak Land Cemetery, under the direction of Joan Frost Gray-Ehnert.

Louis Johnson
Mr. Louis Johnson, age 85, of Forrest City, died Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2001, at his home.
Mr. Johnson was born on July 11, 1915, in Baton Rouge, La. He was the son of Louis Johnson Sr., and Lue Vingue Davis Johnson. He was retired from Vaccaro Lumber where he worked for 41 years.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife, Lucille Nesbitt Johnson, of Forrest City.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Chapel of Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services for Mr. Johnson will be Sunday, Jan. 7, 2001, at 1:30 p.m., at Christian Redeeming Spiritual Church, with the Rev. Theodis Cochran officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.

Castella Williams
Mrs. Castella Williams, age 84, of Forrest City, died Sunday, Dec. 31, 2000, at Methodist Hospital Central in Memphis.
Mrs. Williams was born May 12, 1916, in Indianola, Miss. She was a retired farmer.
Mrs. Williams is survived by nine sons, Dunbar Williams, of Detroit, Mich., Leodis Williams, of Forrest City, Herman Williams, Eugene Williams, Howard Williams, Cornelius Williams, all of Chicago, Ill., Leonard Williams, Elisie Williams, Timothy Williams, all of Little Rock; five daughters, Catherine Smith, of Memphis, Stella Howard, of Chicago, Ill., Deloris Stewart, of Little Rock, Lola Hall, Sadie White, both of Cleveland, Ohio; 34 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Visitation services for Mrs. Williams will be Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Clay Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at 11 a.m., at Salem Baptist Church, with the Rev. Felix Duckworth officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemtery. Clay Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Ethel Williams
Mrs. Ethel Williams, age 82, of Forrest City, died Friday, Dec. 29, 2000, at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Forrest City.
Mrs. Williams was born on Aug. 18, 1918, in Forrest City. She was the daughter of Eddie Williams and Blanch Adams Williams.
She is survived by a son, Roy Burkes, of Madison; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation for Mrs. Williams will be held Friday, Jan. 5, 2001, from 10:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Woodhouse Mortuary. Funeral services will be Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, at 12 p.m., at the United Christian M.B. Church, with the Rev. Leroy Lacey officiating. Burial will follow in Casteel Cemetery, under the direction of Woodhouse Mortuary.
