ROSE, Helen C., 94, passed away at approximately 1:00 p.m. on the 23rd of December, 1999. She was born on the 21st of December, 1905 in Connersville, Indiana. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Crawford, who died in 1981 and most recently her second husband, Harold Rose, who died in 1995. Helen graduated from Earlham College in 1927. She taught high school Latin and English for six years in Indiana, then for several years she was housemother in a school for delinquent girls. After that she worked for many years as a Statistician in the research department of a publishing company. She leaves two stepsons, Stan Rose of Missoula, Montana and Tom Rose of Bryant, Indiana. Helen was a member of St. James United Methodist Church. A Memorial Service is scheduled for January 5 at 11:00 a.m. at St. James United Methodist Church, 3255 N. Campbell Ave.

SCHNEIDER, Florence Hemley, 85, December 29, Ashland, OR. preceded in death by husband William in 1996. survived by son, Burton of Fountain Hills, AZ and daughter Patricia Moore of Eugene, OR; 6 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The Schneiders founded and operated Treehaven School in Tucson from 1949-1976. After retirement, they moved to Ashland, where they were active in many community activities. She will be missed by family, friends, and Treehaven alumni. Remembrances may be sent to Schneider Museum of Art, Southern Oregon University, Ashland, OR 97520.

ZEEH, Hope Reyes, 53, of Tucson, AZ passed away Tuesday, December 28, 1999. She is survived by her husband, John R. Zeeh, previously of Kingston, NY now of Tucson, AZ; also sister, Gladys Aguilar and brother, Paul Reyes both of San Antonio, TX and many nieces and nephews. Services will be held in San Antonio, TX at a later date.

BARAN, Norval Eugene, 56 passed away Wednesday, December 29, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. He is survived by his son Evan of Tucson, Brother Conrad (Linda) Baran of Flagstaff, AZ. A Memorial service will be held Sunday, January 2, 2000 at 3:00 PM at DESERT ROSE CREMATION & BURIAL, 2750 S. 4th Ave. Suite 106

DONALDSON, Ruth Helen, died on Wednesday, December 29th, 1999 in Tucson. She was born in Duluth, Minnesota, May 27, 1917. She was retired from Western Electric Company in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America, Republican Women of Tucson, and the Forty-Niners Golf Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Lars A. and Olga A. Thorsen; her brother, Lloyd Thorsen, and her husband, Robert Donaldson.
She is survived by her sister, Lorraine Markham of Winnemucca, Nevada and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial Service 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 3, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

ELLIS, Doris Dean born August 23, 1950 passed away December 29, 1999. She was born in Sumner, Mississippi. Doris's family moved to Chicago in 1956. After attending George W. Tilton Elementary School and graduating from Lucy Flower High School in 1968, she started a career in the legal field and proceeded to start a family. IN 1980, she returned to school, attending the University of Illinois at Chicago Circle Campus until 1982, when she made Tucson her home. After transferring to the University of Arizona, Doris graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Biology. She served on the Board of Directors of The Arizona Children's Association and Mental Health Resources Inc., taught Biology at Central Arizona College, and was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints before losing her battle with cancer. She is survived by her four children; Vincent Ellis, Antwon Ellis, Cicele Chaffin and Roberta Chaffin; two grandchildren, Jordan Ellis, and Quincero Ellis. She is also survived by her parents; James and Clara Ellis; and her seven brothers and sisters, Willie Ellis, Roy Ellis, Valerie Oliver, Conway Ellis, Vonester Dantzler, Debra Caldwell, and Nyerere Ellis. Services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. at the Fairmount Chapel, 6150 E. Fairmount Avenue

Clyde Freeman, 71, died December 30, 1999. Survived by his wife, Betty Jean Freeman; daughter, Linda Sue (Don) Eager; son, Paul (Georgia) Simmons; grandchildren, Whitney Kyle, David Kyle and Daniel Simmons. Clyde was a resident of Tucson since 1962 and a general contractor for over 25 years. Visitation will be held 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, 2000 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY 5801 E. Grant Road where funeral service will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4, 2000. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms cemetery.

LEONA MARGARET nee DAVIES GOKE, Born October 18, 1914 in Rochester, MN, passed away peacefully at her home in Tucson, AZ on December 28, 1999 to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus. preceded in death by her husband, Robert; daughter, Marsha; brothers, Dayton and Wallace and parents, John and Isabelle (Lee) Davies. Leona was dearly loved and will be missed so much by her survivors: her son, James (Patti) Goke of St. Cloud, MN; daughter, Charlotte (Tim) Soliday of Tucson; grandchildren, John and Lindsey; sisters, Harriet and Norma; brother, John, and many sisters and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews. In 1936 Leona earned her R.N. degree, graduating from Mayo Clinic School of Nursing in Rochester, MN. After working at Methodist Hospital, she worked as a private duty nurse. She was often requested by patients because of her reputation as both a skilled worker and a kind and caring nurse. After her marriage to Robert in July 1937, she was devoted to raising her three children. She also worked for a number of years in her husband's hardware business in Arcadia, WI. Throughout her life she was active in the Lutheran Church, helping those less fortunate or in need. She was foremost a wonderful, nurturing, self-less mother and wife. She was also a sincere and caring friend to all who knew her, and she touched many lives with her beautiful smile and sweet, loving personality. Within our hearts she leaves a gift of many precious memories and a legacy of unconditional love for all family and friends. The family wishes to thank all of Leona's devoted caregivers who were with her to the end. Memorial services will be held Monday, January 3, 2000, 3:30 p.m. at Casas Adobes Congregational Church, 6801 N. Oracle Rd. FRANK M. GRANILLO SR., 80, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away December 27, 1999. preceded in death by wife Mary Granillo; grandson, Frank 'Bobo' Granillo. Survived by daughter, Mary Helen Granillo; sons, Frank (Pat) Jr., Joe (Olga), Benny (Martha) Granillo; sisters, Jesse Valencia and Esperanza Soto. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, January 2, 2000 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with a Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Monday, January 3, 2000, 10:00 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church, 801 N. Grande Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery.

SCRUGGS, George Frederick, age 87, died on December 29, 1999. He was born in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He was a loyal brother and uncle, and will be greatly missed.

ALLEN, Katharine Yancey Malloy Pritchett, was born May 20, 1915 in Yanceyville, NC. Died December 30, 1999 in Tucson, AZ. She was the daughter of Dr. Stephen Arnold Malloy and Nannie Kerr Malloy. She was a graduate of Meredith College, Raleigh, NC. She was first married to James Ira Pritchett III who passed away December 29, 1950. She later married Woodson Hargis Allen of Black Arrow Lodge, Cortaro, AZ. Mrs. Allen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Yanceyville, NC, The Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of America Colonists, North Carolina Society of 1812, North Carolina Society, Colonial Dames XVII Century, a charter member of the John R. Baylor Tucson Chapter, United Daughters of The Confederacy. Mrs. Allen was a direct descendent from which the town of Yanceyville, NC is named. She is survived by her husband, Woodson Hargis Allen and cousins. Funeral Service will be held 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave at Magee.

DWAIN WILLIAM BATTIN, 74, of Tucson, passed away December 30, 1999. Survived by his wife, Emma; children, MiMi, David, John, Robert, Melvin, Lois, William, Ruth, Howard and J.D. and their spouses; 14 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Ella (Virgil) Ward and Donna (Byron) Bird; brother, Dr. Keith Battin; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Battin served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He was a member of the F.O.E. #180 and Epes Randolph Lodge #32. He also served many offices with the Job's Daughters. Masonic Graveside Service Tuesday, 11:00 a.m. Evergreen cemetery, with Epes Randolph Lodge #32, followed by Memorial Service at FOE #180, 1530 N. Stone. BRACAMONTE, Belen Ortiz, 70, of Tucson, passed away December 30, 1999. preceded in death by husband, Constantino M. Bracamonte. Survived by daughters, Carmen (Armando) Gill, Celina (Roy) Cuaron, Cecilia Figueroa, Corrine (Martin) Carpio; son, Tino (Elsa) Bracamonte. Also survived by 24 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 3, 2000 from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Mass will be offered at 10:30 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Hope cemetery. CUMMINS, C. Ray, passed away December 31, 1999. Born April 20, 1915 in Roodhouse, IL, the son of the late Raymond and Nellie Mae (Dyer) Cummins. He was the husband of Betty A. (Montgomery) Cummins whom he married on September 4, 1940. He farmed in the Mason City, IL area for 20 years before moving to Tucson, AZ in 1968 where he worked for Grant Road Lumber until his retirement. In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Donna (Sam) Montooth of Dahinda, IL; two grandchildren, Marianne Alexander of Knoxville, TN, Jeffrey Alexander of Olympia, WA; four sisters; and three brothers. He was predeceased by two sisters and three brothers. Graveside Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at 11:00 a.m. in East Lawn Palms cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tucson Elks Lodge #385 in which he was a past member.

DAMAN, Joseph (Joe), 86, passed away December 31, 1999. preceded in death by son, Michael. Survived by beloved companion, Sylvia Ryder; sons, Jerry and Brian; daughters, Mary Kay, Bobbie, Sharon, Anitra, and Starr; 24 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren; brother, Bill; sisters, Ann and Mary. A Chartered Member of the Eastside Elks #2532. He did a lot for people who needed help. He owned the Daman Mobile Homes at four locations. He will be greatly missed by everyone. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Square and Compass Children's Clinic, 2600 N. Wyatt, Tucson, Arizona 85712. Visitation will be held 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Cryptside Service will be 3:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 5, 2000, East Lawn Palms Mausoleum.

MITCHELL, Lorene, 89, of Oro Valley, formerly of Oracle, passed away December 31, 1999. Survivors include her daughter, LaRoyce (Cecil) Brogdon; three grandchildren, Debbie (Troy) Sanders, Lisa Brogdon, Troy (Amy) Brogdon; seven great- grandchildren, Matthew, Jeremy and Stephanie Sanders, Jennifer and Christopher Bruno, Mario and Ashley Brogdon; plus many other friends and relatives. Lorene started her teaching career at the age of 18 in Texas afterwhich moving to San Manuel and teaching there for 25 years. She was also very active in the Oracle Baptist Church. Funeral service will be held at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave., Tuesday, January 4, 2000, at 1:30 PM with visitation one hour prior. Interment to follow at South Lawn cemetery.

ANNA ROSE OPHOFF passed away on December 31, 1999. Born on Wapakoneta, Ohio on September 17, 1913 to E.J. and Helen Shepard. She moved to Terre Haute, Indiana as a child with her parents and lived there until her move to Tucson in 1985. She married Louis F. Ophoff on July 28, 1934 and he preceded her in death in 1988. Survived by her children, Patricia A. (John) Spencer of Tucson; Mary H. (Joseph) Mullen of Fountain Hills, AZ; and George L. (Katey) of Tubac, AZ. Also survived by eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Maxine H. Hoy and Mary Jane Ramer, both of Silver Springs, FL. She leaves behind her many friends at Far Horizon East, which has been her home since 1985. Funeral Mass will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 4, 2000 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 215 S. Craycroft. Interment will follow at TMP East Lawn. Friends may call at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., Monday, January 3, with a Vigil Service said at 6:30 p.m.

PETERSON, Christopher Michael, 19, of Tucson, was tragically taken from us on December 31, 1999. He is survived by his parents, Kathy and Troy Moore; his brother, Kevin; father, Chris Peterson of Las Vegas; grandparents, Joe and Marcy Andrews of Michigan, C.P. Moore and Joe Maurer of Tucson, Roland and Dee Moore of California; plus many loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. Christopher's ability to bring a smile to your face, in addition to the way he loved and cared for people, will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
