He attended elementary school in Akron and graduated from high school in Columbus, Ohio. He studied electrical engineering at Ohio State University. He entered the United States Army in 1946 and spent most of his duty between Sandia Base and Kirtland field in Albuquerque and Las Alamos, New Mexico. He was with the Manhattan Project as a military policeman. After his time in the service he returned to his home state of Ohio, touching base with family and friends where he had fond memories of cousins and a farm in the hills of the little town of Fresno, Ohio. Never forgetting the love for the west, he returned and lived most of his adult life in Arizona, California, and New Mexico. He attended Eastern Arizona College and received a certificate of proficiency of Electrical Engineering, which was his trade. After meeting his present wife, while in Tucson, AZ and their retiring, they returned to Silver City in 1986 and bought their first home. They made Silver City their permanent residence in 1989. He was a member of the American Legion Post 18 and the Messiah Lutheran Church.
After moving to Silver City he renovated several homes and loved working with his hands. His quality and craftsmanship excelled. He loved collecting antiques and making sure they were in good working order. He enjoyed the laid back lifestyle of this small town, his children and stepchildren, but most of all he loved his church (Messiah Lutheran LSMS) and the Lord. The Lord granted him his last wishes, to see his 70th birthday, to celebrate his 18th wedding anniversary, to see the year 2000 and to take an Amtrack train ride. Three were granted and the fourth God took care of, as he was on the Amtrack to heaven.
He was an unforgettable man, who was loved and will be greatly missed by his wife of 18 years, and his children, and the fulfillment of his promise to his stepchildren, that he was a good and faithful husband to their mother. Friends from east to west will sadly miss him.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, 1599 Clifton Rd. NE Atlanta, GA 30329 or The Messiah Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 401 Silver City, NM 88062.
Bright Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
