GLENNON, David, 53, died April 27, 2000 as the result of a traffic accident. Survived by children, Mary and David; brother, Douglas Glennon; sister, Sandra St. John; nieces, Elisa (Larry) Ross and Ashley Ross; and his companion, Darlene Bol all of Tucson. He served in Vietnam and was awarded the Bronze Star. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew him. Funeral Service 1:30 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with Pastor Phil Naylor officiating. Burial in TMP East Lawn. Friends may call from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 3rd at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. HOBBS, Alfred Bacon, better known as A. B. Hobbs, died suddenly as he and Elsie were on their way home from Four Corners on April 26, 2000. They were about sixteen miles into New Mexico when he collapsed. He died on the way to the hospital in Shiprock, NM. For more than 32 years they have shared his children, Robert Hobbs, Richard Hobbs who died in infancy and Karlene Hobbs and Elsie's children, Delbert (Claire) Evans, James Evans and Anita Destrini who died in 1984. Their grandchildren are Stacy Hobbs, Cary (Harold) Thorsen, Heather Evans, John Destrini and Andrea Destrini and the great-grandchildren are Tanika Cisenros, Michael Hobbs, Jasmine Grijalva who died in infancy in 1993, Roxann Grijalva, Anita Destrini, Adrian Destrini and China Navalot. All of the survivors live in the Tucson area, except for China, who is with her mother in Virginia. A. B. was born 4 December 1920 in the Copper Queen Hospital in Bisbee, AZ. His family homesteaded in New Mexico after the mines closed in Bisbee. After graduation from Roswell High School in 1940 he volunteered in the United States Army and was stationed at Schofield on Pearl Harbor Day. He is a retired Regular Army Major and worked for thirty-five years for the Water Department in Tucson. He is a member of the City of Tucson Retirees Association (CTRA), the Retired Officers Association and the Elks Lodge #385. Funeral Service 9:30 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2000 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with Dr. Loren McBain of Catalina Baptist Church officiating. Burial follows at East Lawn Palms cemetery. You may visit with A. B. and Elsie one half hour before the service on Thursday.

CATHERINE ANN HONOMICHL
1919 – 2000
Catherine Honomichl went to be with our Lord April 27, 2000. She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Emil G. Honomichl.
Catherine was born in Omaha, Nebraska and became a resident of Arizona in 1951. She was an active member of Our Mother of Sorrows Church, belonging to the Altar Society and Perpetual Adoration Society. She was also a member of the Women's Bowling Association for many years.
Catherine is survived by her children, Roger (Dalia) Honomichl of Maryland; Kathleen Paoli, Michael (Nancy) Honomichl of Tucson; her grandchildren, David Paoli of Tucson; Joseph (Stephanie) Paoli of Texas; Bill (Erika) Honomichl of Tucson; and Scott (Melanie) Honomichl of Gilbert. She was also a loving great-grandmother to Christina, Mina, Maria, Marissa and Robert Paoli and Tyler and Tanner Honomichl; as well as her sisters, brother, nieces and nephews in Omaha, Nebraska. Catherine will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to send their heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Encore Senior Village for the loving and tender care they provided Catherine during the past three months. They will be forever in our thoughts and prayers.
Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m., Wed- nesday, May 3, 2000 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Road. Burial in Holy Hope cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 2 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway, with the Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association–Southern Chapter, 2221 N. Rosemont Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85712.

JULANDER, Sun Nam, 62, died April 30, 2000. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

CARROLL DEAN MURPHY, JR. - Died April 29, 2000, born February 22, 1914 in Winnetka, Illinois. Son of Carroll Dean and Hazel Murphy. He received his business degree from Northwestern University, was a U.S. Navy Aviation and Instructor Pilot during WWII, V.P. and General Manager of Petrolite Corp., Tulsa, Oklahoma, V.P. and founder of Toyo-Petrolite, Tokyo, Japan, international business consultant for Petrolite Corp. until his retirement in 1986. He was a member of the Governors' Advisory Board in Wisconsin, Leader of the Trade Commission State of Wisconsin to Asia, Director of Associated Bank, Hurley, Wisconsin, Operations Officer of Iron County (Wisconsin) Development Zone, Chairman M.D. Group of International Business Consultants and a resident of Tucson, AZ since 1994. He is survived by wife, Joyce Murphy of Tucson; brothers, Homer Murphy of Cambria, CA, Lloyd Murphy of Phoenix, AZ; sister, Hazel Jackson of Fresno, CA; sons, Carroll (Rosemary) Smith of Tulsa, OK, David (Sherri) Murphy of Tulsa, OK; daughters, Jean (Jim) Adams of Mears, MI, Joyce (Paul) Momper of Denver, CO, Nancy Johnson of Tucson, AZ; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery.

TIZNADO, Bertha A., 39, of Tucson, Arizona, passed away April 27, 2000. Survived by husband, Thomas H. Villa; daughters, Juanita, Sylvia and Sonia; sons, Thomas and Vicente; sisters, Maria C., Jesus S., Susana T. and Georgina; brothers, Francisco T., Humberto T., Miguel T., Antonio T., Jorge T., Lio T. and Antonio T.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 03, 2000 from 4:00 p.m. till next morning at 4545 S. Mission Rd. Sp. #49. Mass will be offered on Thursday, May 04, 2000, 10:30 a.m. at Santa Cruz Church, 1220 S. 6th Ave. Interment to follow at Mt. Calvario cemetery.
A Loving, Caring and expectant Grandmother has spread her tweedy wings and flown away. Although she's gone and will be missed, her spirit will remain in our hearts to stay.

FAY ESTELLA TODD
May 26, 1911 – April 26, 2000
Fay Estella Todd, retired seamstress, hatmaker, and quiltmaker, gently went home to the Lord on April 26, 2000. Fay was born in Itasca, TX on May 26, 1911 to Mattie and Virgil Calhoun of Itasca, TX. She resided in Tucson for over 50 years. She is survived by her sister, Nelda Watson of Dallas, TX; brother, Horace Calhoun of Los Angeles, CA; children, Ina Ray Badger of Sacramento, CA, Elsie Jewel Johnson, Emma Mae Hodsden, Leroy Todd, Mack Todd, all of Tucson. She is also survived by a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. A Christian woman filled with the Holy Ghost, Fay was a long-standing member of Elder Compton's A-Mountain Church of God in Christ. Her enduring remembrance will be her spirituality, persistence, and friendly nature. She will be dearly missed. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at HEATHER MORTUARY CHAPEL, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd. Friends may call at the mortuary, one hour prior to the service.

SOLENG TOM - Born in Canton, China March 11, 1912, deceased April 28, 2000 in Tucson, Arizona.
Born to a struggling small merchant hotel family in Southern China, Soleng immigrated to the United States as a teenager with his older sister. He collected garbage in San Francisco, California, and wandered the United States, ultimately receiving a degree in Aeronautical Engineering from Washing University in Saint Louis, Missouri.
He found his way to Tucson, Arizona and worked in a small neighborhood store, which later turned into a chain of full service grocery stores, opened Tucson's first 'shopping center' in South Tucson. During World War Two he became a naval aviator in the United States Navy and was stationed in Alameda, California. After the War, Soleng Tom returned to Tucson and continued his business career, including real estate, insurance, trusts, mining interest and numerous business ventures including restaurants, discount stores, import and export business, and a variety of other entrepreneurial endeavors.
Concurrently with his business interests he also became active in the community through various organizations including the Chamber of Commerce, the Lions Clubs, politics, education (serving 18 years on Tucsons District I School Board and ultimately being honored with the dedication of an elementary school dedicated in his name in 1977). He was also extremely proud of his American heritage, and through his participation in the American Legion Morgan McDermott Post in Tucson, he gained national recognition becoming the first Asian-American to hold the title of National Vice Commander of the American Legion.
He always was active in the local Chinese Chamber of Commerce, was instrumental in starting bilingual after-hours Chinese school and worked with the community to celebrate customs and diversity of the community.
He was a pioneer in Arizona and Tucson community service and he helped enrich the concept of multi-cultural diversity before the term became popular. He participated in a variety of charitable endeavors, giving funds, his time and spirit.
Soleng Tom represents the archetype of the American dream rags to riches with a personal commitment to his family, community, and county. He is survived by one daughter, Tom Wi King of New York; sons, Arthur Tom of Tucson, Arizona and Soleng Tom, Jr. MD of Palo Alto, California.
The family request remembrances be made to the American Heart Association.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, May 2nd, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at ARIZONA MORTUARY UNIVERSITY CHAPEL. Funeral Service will take place Wednesday, May 3rd, 10:00 a.m. at the Sabbar Shrine Temple, 450 S. Tucson Blvd. Burial will be at Evergreen cemetery.

WARD, Charles Edward, 82, died April 28, 2000. Survived by sister, Jean Petersen of Fond Du Lac, WI; son, Michael (Marla) Ward of Brooklyn, NY and daughter, Patricia (William) McGee of Tucson; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren also survive. He was an electrician by trade but his real love was aviation. He was a pilot during WWII and a crop duster following the war. Arrival of his family stopped his crop dusting and he became an electrician. Memorial Service 10:00 a.m., Thursday, May 4, 2000 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

REBECCA EVE DICKSTEIN, 91, a 25 year resident of Tucson, formerly of Flint, MI, died May 2, 2000. She is survived by her children, Ruth (Samuel) Reiter of Tucson, Susan (Burton) Krohn of Los Alamos, NM, Deborah Dickstein of Seattle, WA, Robert (Carol) Dickstein of Flint, MI and Stephen (Ruth) Dickstein of Tucson; her grandchildren, George (Wendy) Reiter, Sara (Greg Brown) Reiter, Ilene Reiter, Wendy (Jeremy) Verba, Jonathan (Barclay Lynn) Dickstein, Laurie (Scott) Liss and Mollie Krohn; and seven great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Bernard Dickstein on September 30, 1995, Mrs. Dickstein graduated from Hunter College in 1928 and obtained her M.A. degree in Biological Science from Columbia University in 1930. She continued her post graduate work at the University of Michigan. She was a certified school psychologist in Michigan. Mrs. Dickstein was an active member of the Pima County Retired Teachers Association and was the recipient of the Community Service Award in 1994. She was an active senior citizen, who served on various committees until recently. For 18 years she was a facilitator for a Great Decisions Study Group. In Tucson, Mrs. Dickstein was an involved congregant of Temple Emanu-El, an officer of Senior Congregants and a benefactor of the new Temple Emanu-El preschool. She will always be remembered for her intellectual curiosity and boundless energy. Services will be held Thursday, 9:30 a.m. at Temple Emanu-El, 225 N. Country Club Rd., with Rabbi Samuel M. Cohon officiating. Interment will follow in the Temple Emanu-El Section of Evergreen cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in the name of Rebecca Eve Dickstein to Temple Emanu-El. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & cemetery.

WALLACE CARLTON DIERS, PHD., 76, born in Akron, OH, passed away April 30, 2000 after a long battle with cancer. His wife Judy preceded him in death. Survived by his son, Greg Diers; daughter, Diana (Kent) Knapp; and granddaughter, Megan Humphries, all of Tucson.
He attended Ohio University before enlisting in the Army where he served at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, and Ardennes Central Europe for which he received the Good Conduct Medal, European Africa Easter Campaign Medal with five stars and WWII Victory Medal. He returned to college at Indiana University where he received BA in Psychology and started his undergraduate work. He was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity and served Alpha Iota as Chaplain and Secretary. After completing his undergraduate work at Indiana, he continued his education and graduate work at University of Ohio where he received his Degree in Philosophy.
Wally moved to Tucson in 1956 to start his practice as southern Arizona's first Clinical Psychologist and Child Guidance Clinic. From there he helped to establish Mental Health Clinics as a Consultant in Cochise, Graham and Greelee Counties. He was a research associate for the Psychology Dept. at University of Arizona. Soon he went into private practice. He was appointed by Gov. Jack Williams to the Board of Psychologist. Was on the board or officer for several youth groups. Wally was a member of American Psychological Assoc., The Academy of Psychosomatic Medicine, Academy of Psychologists in Marital and Family Therapy, The American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and Pima County Assoc. Mental Health. For many years he worked for Department of Disability Determination Services.
Every August for ten (10) days he'd pack up Judy, Diana and Greg plus some of Greg's friends and go camping where there were no people, phones, TV or stereos. And you could always find him on the golf course Wednesdays and Saturdays. Wally had a wonderful sense of humor and always had a joke or story to tell. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
The Diers family want to especially thank the staff and management of Maison Da Vinci Elder Care Home for all their extra care and attention they gave to Wally during his stay there.
Funeral Service 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 4, 2000 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Burial follows at East Lawn Palms cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
