TESTER, Amos, passed away March 27, 1996. Survived by daughter, Cyndi Tester; brother, Bill Tester; uncle of, Bill Tester, Jr., Linda Tester Clemit and JoAnn Tester. Member of the Elks, lifetime member of the VFW, US Navy WWII.

THOMPSON, Ethel Marion, Ph.D., Home Economics Professor at the University of Arizona 1942-1965, died Wednesday, March 27, 1996 at Devon Gables Nursing Home in Tucson. Dr. Thompson, born in St. Cloud, MN, October 12, 1894, was one of six children of Pirrie Thompson (British) and Janet Crooks Thompson (Canadian). Ethel is survived by her sister, Irene Lillian Thompson of Tucson; nine nieces and nephews and their families, many of whom live in California or the state of Washington. Twenty-six of her family gathered in Tucson for a family reunion in 1990. At the University of Arizona, Dr. Thompson taught and did research in the field of Nutrition. Prior to this, she was on the faculty of Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH, 1926-1937. Ethel graduated from Everett High School (State of Washington) in 1913, University of Washington B.S., Columbia University graduate work in Chemistry; M.S. 1929 and Ph.D. 1940 “Chemistry and Nutrition’. Dr. Thompson was elected to Kappa Alpha Theta, Pi Lambda Theta (Education Honorary), Omicron Nu (Home Economics Honorary), Columbia University Chapter of Sigma Xi (Science Honorary), and was named Diplomate of the American Board of Nutrition in Human Nutritional Sciences. While at U of A, she worked with the Arizona Agricultural Experiment Station. Dr. Thompson opened the Home Economics Department to Doctoral level of study by offering a course in Advanced Study in the Chemistry and Metabolism of Lipids. She represented Arizona on the Western Regional Project on Cholesterol Problems, 1962-1965. Ethel Thompson was a pioneer. She came here to teach when Tucson and the University were small and remote from other cities. Most of the Professors were men. Dr. Thompson earned their respect. Ethel directed that there be no services in her memory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to The Nutritional Sciences Department, 325 Forbes Building, U of A, Tucson, AZ 85721. WORTHY, Robert C. “Bob’, age 66, of Tucson, formerly of Glenview, IL and Norwalk, CT, died March 30, 1996. He is survived by his loving wife of 44 years, Lorraine (nee Koch); children, Robert (Nancy) of Palatine, IL and Brenda (Jesse) Atkinson and DD of Tucson; one grandson, Russell Worthy; sister, Jean (Kenneth) Robinson of Hardwick, VT; mother-in-law, Martha Koch of Tucson; an uncle and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Mr. Worthy was preceded in death by his parents Ruth and Robert C. Worthy and father-in-law Theodore Koch. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 1996. A Funeral Service will follow at 7:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Mensing officiating. ADAM, David Gordon, 49, died March 31, 1996 of cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Margaret. He is survived by his loving family; wife, Karen; children, Brian and Katherine; sister, Tracy (John) Ward; three nephews; his uncle, Robert (Kay) Hubner; two cousins; and many in-laws. At David’s request, no services will be held but there will be a gathering of friends at the Westwood Hills Clubhouse, 1941 W. Calle del Reposo, on Saturday, April 6, 1996 beginning at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the charity of your choice.

BRADLEY, Robert Lee, 58, of Vail, AZ, died Thursday, April 28, 1996. Survivors include son, Robert of Vail; daughters, Eva Arias, Cheryl Monreal, Candace Valenzuela; mother, Helen Bradley, all of CA; brother, Richard; main squeeze, Judy McLoughlin, both of Tucson; five granddaughters, Annette, Monica, Bianca, Jacquelyn, Stephanie; close friends, Alexandra Chtcheblanova and the McLoughlin children. Robert was preceded in death by his brother, Bill. Private services were held Tuesday evening. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. BRAW, Ann P., 79, died April 1, 1996. Survived by her daughters, Cheryl Roberts of Tucson and Diane (John) Evance of Arivaca; brother, Frank (Mavis) Dudla of NY; sisters, Frances Mihevc, Marjorie Thomas, Theresa (William) Niles, all of NY and Dorothy (Jack) Nelson of VT; sister-in-law, Mary Dudla of NY; aunts, Mary Close Lantzy of Tucson and Katherine Somma of NY; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins survive. Mrs. Braw was preceded in death by her husband, William, her parents, and brother, Paul Dudla. Dopler of CA; brother of Katheryn McCraig of PA; 12 grandchildren; and one great granddaughter also survive. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Thursday, April 4, 1996 at St. Frances de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco with Fr. Robert Tamminga officiating. DUNN, Hiram W. “Joe’ (T/Sgt Ret. USAF) 62, a resident of Tucson, died April 1, 1996. Survived by wife, Patricia; son, Lawrence A. (Donna) of Pensicola, FL; grandson, Jesse; sisters, Beulah Doane of Hardin, MT, Bettie Davis (Arthur) of El Dorado Springs, MO; numerous nieces, nephews, and in-laws also survive. Mr. Dunn was the heating plant foreman at St. Mary’s Hospital retiring in 1975. Graveside Service 1:00 p.m. Friday at South Lawn Cemetery with Military Honors. FENDER, Stanley, 74, of Tucson, died April 1, 1996. Funeral Services Thursday, 11:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle and W. Miracle Mile with visitation one hour prior to service. GARCIA, Apolonio D. “Buck’ 83, of Tucson, entered into God’s Heavenly Kingdom on April 1, 1996. Preceded in death by son, Apolonio Garcia III. Survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Josephine Garcia; dearly loved father of daughters, Gloria (Rey) Olea, Julie (Andy) Trujillo; son, Ralph (Dolores) Garcia; sisters, Pauline Lovio, Erlinda Gutierrez, Estella Gamez; brothers, Nicholas D., Tommy D., Juan D. Garcia; loving Tata to Rey-Michael, Gabriel, Katrina, Daniel Olea, Christopher, Patrick Pesqueira, Cyra, Matthew Trujillo, Armando, Ralph, Michelle, Apolonio, Carlos, Andy Garcia; great grandfather to Nathan and Elayna. HARDIE, Fred Hamilton, 73, of Tucson, died March 31, 1996. He is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mildred; her children and grandchildren; daughter, Sue Hardie and her husband Terry Pollack of Oakland, CA; a son, Steve Hardie; and granddaughters, Corina and Megan, all of Minnetonka, MN; and a sister, Ellen Peck of Harrington Park, NJ. HOPKINS, William, A resident of Tucson since 1948, passed away March 27, 1996 in Tucson, at the age of 88. Born July 19, 1907 in Kirkentilloch, Scotland. Mr. Hopkins owned and operated Perfect Cleaners in Tucson, until his retirement in 1969. He sponsored and was active in slow pitch softball, and was an active member of St. Marks Presbyterian Church since 1950. Survived by his daughters, Mari Helen (Max) High and Beth Thomas; grandchildren, Douglas High, Robin and Robert Thomas; sister, Margaret Frieberger. Preceded in death by his wife, Ivy. A Memorial Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 6, 1996 at St. Marks Presbyterian Church, 3809 E. 3rd St. Rev. Sue Westfall and Rev. Stewart Taylor officiating. Graveside Service will follow at South Lawn Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Salvation Army or the Community Food Bank. Arrangements by SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

HORNER, Edith Marie, 90, of Tucson, died Saturday, March 30, 1996. She is survived by her children, Paul August (Elfrida) Horner of Marana, John H. (Shirley) Horner of Tucson, Charlotte (Joseph) Nesbitt of Garden Grove, CA; sisters, Mearl Smith, Pauline Johnson; brother, Pearl Oyer; 12 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, April 4, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

SMITH, Robert R., 70, died April 2, 1996. He was a WWII Veteran. He is survived by his loving wife, Geneva; sons, Doug of Tucson, AZ, Tom of Moberly, MO, Gary of St. Josephs, MO; daughters, Rosana Schloatman, Jonna Spano, Lori Wood, all of Tucson, AZ; brother, Dwight “Buddy’ of Oleta, IL; uncle, Ted Canterbury of Chillicothe, MO; and 11 grandchildren. At Mr. Smith’s request no services will be held.

STRONG, Donna Hall, passed on March 24, 1996. Born in Tucson, September 24, 1951. Preceded in death by her father, Ronald Hall. Survived by daughters, Deanne Donnelly and Kimberly Strong; mother, June Hall; brother, James Hall, all of Tucson. Friends may gather for Memorial Services at Northminster Presbyterian Church, corner of Tucson Blvd and E. Ft. Lowell, 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 6th.

THOMAS, Harry W., 76, died Saturday, March 30, 1996 in Tucson. Survived by wife, Reba Hutchison of Tucson; one step-son, David Harris of Tucson; one sister, Peg; and one step-grandson. Mr. Thomas was a member of the Moose Lodge #8892435. Funeral for Mr. Thomas will be April 4, 1996 at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway.
