SHALVAY, Agnes Theresa, Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother, died peacefully May 18, 1996 in Tucson, AZ at the age of 80, leaving behind her life long friend and devoted husband of 59 years Mike; sons, Michael Jr. (wife Nancy) and Thomas (wife Karen) of Tucson; and daughter, Joan Hurst (husband Dave) of San Ramon, CA; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; sisters, Alice Genz of Winfield, NJ and Charlotte Burke of Ft. Lauderdale, FL. Born January 17, 1916 in Elizabeth, NJ, Agnes has been a Tucson resident since October 1946 and was a co-founder of Wheel Equipment, Inc. in 1965 with husband Mike and sons, Mike Jr. and Thom. Family was always most important to Agnes yet she frequently donated her services to Sacred Heart Parish as well as many hours and her excellent baking skills to St. Jude Children’s Cancer Research Hospital and Spina Bifida Association through Beta Kappa Chapter #4621 of Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority fund raisers. Agnes also enjoyed playing Bingo in various Tucson area establishments and hobbies included astrology and numerology. Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. till 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, 1996 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 22, 1996 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, with entombment to follow at Holy Hope Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers the family requests, donations be made to Casa de los Ninos Nursery, 347 E. Speedway, Tucson, 85705. Directed by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 327-6341.

SHETTLESWORTH, Catherine Jane, 56, of Tucson, AZ, died May 19, 1996. Catherine was born and raised in Peoria, IL and graduated from Peoria Cental High School and Stephens College in Columbia, MO. Preceded in death by her mother, Elizabeth Hill. Survived by husband, Jack L. Shettlesworth; daughter, Amy (Joe, Jr.) Pellegrino of Tucson; son, Mark Shettlesworth of Tucson; father, Walter H. Hill, Jr. or Tucson; sister, Vicky (Jim) Graham of Tucson; brothers, Ken (Kathy) Hill of Moline, IL and Doug (Lynne) Hill of Tucson; father and mother-in-law, Roy and Geneva Shettlesworth of Columbia, MO; sister-in-law, Iris (Gary) Price of Littleton, CO; and many friends. Memorial visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. where a memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, Rev. MULVIHILL, Marvin Gene, T/Sgt. USAF Ret., 54, died May 20, 1996 in Douglas, AZ. Survived by wife, Alva Gastelum Mulvihill; children, William (Mary) Mulvihill, II, James (Teresa) Mulvihill, Melanie Mulvihill, Christopher (Kiki) Mulvihill and Gwendolyn (Shawn) Mulvihill; parents, Edith and William Milvihill of MO; twin brother, Melvin (Maria) Mulvihill of Sierra Vista. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 9:00 a.m. Friday, May 24 at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone. Burial in Holy Hope Cemetery. NAROFSKY, Seymour “Sy’, 62, of Tucson, died on May 20, 1996. Found rest in his Lord Jesus Christ after a long battle with throat and lung cancer. Served as president of Tucson’s New Voice Club and spoke at area schools about the consequences of tobacco use. Sy served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. Survived by wife of 31 years, Nancy; sons, Thom (Dorene) and Terry (Cindy); daughter, Elizabeth (David) Warner; grandchildren, Shannon, Timothy, Joshua, Jacob Narofsky and Nathalie Warner; brother, Howard Norris of Irving, CA. He will be missed by numerous loving family members and friends. Services Friday, 10:00 a.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY with George Barnes, Education Minister of Mountain View Baptist Church officiating. WAXMAN, Joseph, 86, of Tucson, died May 22, 1996. Survived by wife, Sadie; daughter, Madeline Galkin; son-in-law, Joseph Galkin; grandchildren, Mike and Terri Galkin, Roch and Deanna Doran; great grandchild, David Joseph Galkin; sister, Esther Grifkin. Funeral Service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Friday, May 24 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Tucson, AZ. Further services and burial will be held in California. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either the American Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society.

BAUMGARDNER, Catherine (Happy) Parks, 85, died May 18, 1996, wife of Frank Baumgardner. Survivors are daughter, Susan Kaiser, Valdosta, GA; granddaughter, Catherine Noble, Glasgow, Scotland; and grandsons, Steven Kaiser and Andrew Kaiser, Atlanta, GA; and son, Frank, III, Sebastopol, CA; grandsons, Joel, San Francisco, CA, and William, Portland, OR. Born in Watertown, WI, Catherine was educated at Penn Hall, Chambersburg, PA, Wellesley College, and Parsons School of Design. She was employed at Lord and Taylor, New York, and Mandel Bros., Chicago. Catherine and Frank were married at holiday time in 1936. They moved to Atlanta, Chicago, New York, Jacksonville, FL, and Lancaster, OH, on various assignments with Anchor Hocking Glass. For retirement they chose Tucson and UA in 1968. Catherine (Happy) devoted herself as a docent at the Museum of Art, as a worker at St. Philip’s art gallery and gardens, and to women’s tennis at Skyline Country Club where they were charter-life members. A Memorial Service will be at St. Philip’s In The Hills at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 21, 1996 with the Rev. Dr. Roger Douglas officiating.

BREWER, William Roy, Jr., 73, passed peacefully from this life into God’s hands at home May 18th, 1996. Husband of Joan M. Brewer; father of Susan Reed (Robert), Cindy Baker (Jeff), Debbie Cool-Brewer (Patrick), Dawn Brewer (Tom Reilly), William Roy Brewer, III (Kathleen), John S. Brewer, Sr. (Julie) and Connie Fiandaca (Al); 11 grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. Roy is also survived by his sister, Constance Wolffe of NJ and step-father, Verl Hawks of Green Valley. Roy was a Native Arizonan, born in Douglas in 1922. Served his country with distinction as a WWII U.S. Army Air Corps. P-47 Fighter Pilot in the European Theatre (England, France, Belgium, Germany). He flew 81 missions with the 36th Fighter Group, 22nd Fighter Squadron. Roy was a graduate of Tucson High School and The University of Arizona. He retired after 30 years with Buxton-Smith/McKesson. A lifetime member of B.P.O. Elk’s No. 385, and a Tucson Rodeo Committee member for 17 years. Funeral Service 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 23rd, 1996 at Northminster Presbyterian Church, 2450 E. Ft. Lowell Rd. with Dr. Andrew G. Ross officiating. Burial at Tucson Memorial Park East Lawn. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to U of A Cancer Research Center, 1501 N. Campbell, Tucson 85719. Friends call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. May 22, 1996 at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott, and one hour prior to service at Northminster Presbyterian Church.

DAVENPORT, Glen A. “Tex’, 93, of Tucson, died May 20, 1996. He was a member of Ironworkers Local #75, and Tucson Lodge #4 F.and A.M. Survived by daughters, Linda Taylor of Tucson, Vickie Elam of Rangely, CO; seven grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Gertie Davenport and sister Ruby Wilcoxon. Friends may call Thursday 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. with Graveside Services immediately following in Evergreen Cemetery with Tucson Lodge #4 F. and A.M. officiating. DAVIES, M. Irene, passed away in peace on May 19, 1996. Born on September 29, 1921 in Wilmerding, PA, she has lived in Tucson since 1951. Irene is survived by David, her loving husband of 53 years. Survivors include her son, Tim (Anne); grandson, Kevin; brothers, Robert R. Rook and Vernon E. (Nora) Rook, all of Tucson. Irene retired from Hughes Aircraft in 1972. She is a past president of the Tucson Business and Professional Women’s Club. During her career she was active in Junior Achievement and has been a member of the Eagle’s Auxiliary for over 25 years. Remembrances may be made to the Humane Society of Tucson. At Irene’s request there will be no memorial services. Arrangements by Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd and Swan.

KINKEAD, Verlie Watha, 92, passed away Sunday, May 19, 1996. Verlie was born ay 17, 1904 in Jamestown, CO to Frank and Lille Belle (Crayne) Walker. She is survived by one daughter, Watha Lillabelle Seaman of Tucson; stepdaughter, Casandra Scofield of Seattle, WA; stepson, Robert Kinkead of Minneapolis, MN; daughter-in-law, Deloris Seaman of Cresent City, CA; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren also survive. Her parents, husband and son, all preceded her. She will be missed by many cousins and friends. Services Wednesday 2:30 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle and W. Miracle Mile, with Pastor Philip Brayton of Northwest Baptist Church officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to service time.

KOROBKO, John (NMI) Jr., 46, of Fairbanks, AK and part-time resident of Tucson, died May 15, 1996. Preceded in death by his father. Survivors include mother, Marie L. (Orville) Abney; sister, Gail A. (Raffie) Berberian of Tucson; niece, Arlene Tanya Stolz of CA; uncle, Robert (Vivian) Burns Spencer of Fairbanks, AK; numerous cousins and many friends in Tucson and Alaska. At John’s request there will be no services. Arrangements by Desert Rose Cremation, Tucson.

LUCHSINGER, Hilda A., age 89, of Tucson, died Saturday, May 18, 1996 at Tucson General Hospice. Survived by daughter, Mrs. Melvin (Audrey) James of Tucson, AZ; sister, Anita Melvin and niece, Diane Pietsch of Racine, WI; sister-in-law, Caroline Peter of Milwaukee, WI; many nieces and nephews. Donations to favorite charity appreciated. Services 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 23, 1996 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave., Tucson, AZ with Pastor Mark Harmon of the Central Church of the Nazarene officiating. Friends may call Thursday, 10:00 a.m. May 23, 1996 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY.

LUGO, Sr. Jeanne, O.P., born Luisa Lugo, died Sunday, May 19, 1996 in Bisbee, AZ. Sr. Jeanne was 75 years old and born on August 9, 1920 in Douglas, AZ to Juan Lugo and Amanda Camarrero Lugo. Raised in Douglas she graduated from the Douglas Public Schools. Sr. Jeanne entered the Eucharistic Missionaries of St. Dominic in New Orleans on May 5, 1945 and professed first vows on September 8, 1948. Nearly fifty years of missionary work touched the lives of people in Louisiana and Arizona and several small villages in Mexico. Sr. Jeanne was the first Hispanic woman to be appointed Diocesan Director of Religious Education in the United States, a position she held in Tucson, AZ from 1976-1984. She retired in 1990, but continued to serve the people of St. Patrick Parish in Bisbee, AZ on a part time basis as a spiritual director and the leader of an adult scripture study. Sr. Jeanne was honored in April 1996 by the parishioners of St. Patrick parish with a week long celebration in appreciation of her many years of loving service. Survivors include her five sisters, Amelda Rojo of Bisbee, Alicia Lewis of Tucson, Lydia Estrada of Douglas, Aurelia Abril (Frank) of Safford and Delia Boggs (Robert) of Douglas; also two sister-in-laws, Concepcion Lugo and Angie Lugo, both of Douglas; also numerous niece and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Rodolfo Lugo in 1980 and John Lugo in 1990. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 22, 1996 at Dugan Funeral Chapel in Bisbee from 11:00 a.m. til 6:00 p.m. Rosary will also be held on Wednesday at St. Patrick Church in Bisbee at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held on Thursday, May 23, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Patrick Church. On Friday another Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave., Tucson, AZ. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery, Tucson, AZ. All arrangements are being handled by Dugan Funeral Chapel, Bisbee, AZ.

MALLAS, Leo J., (W7NLU), Born 10 December 1920 in Chicago, IL, passed away 18 May 1996 from pulmonary fibrosis. He is survived by a daughter, son-in-law and two grandsons. At age of four his parents moved to North Chicago, IL. He graduated from Holy Family Grade School in 1935, from Waukegan Township High School, Waukegan, IL 1939. He held numerous industrial jobs until WWII broke out. He enlisted into the Navy Reserve 20 February 1942 for four years. Went through training at Great Lakes Naval Training Station. He was assigned to Catapult School at Navy Pier, Chicago. He then transferred to Philadelphia Navy Yard, where he was assigned to the USS Independence CVL22, joined Pacific Fleet in 1943, was involved in over 155 engagements with the enemy. He was honorably discharged November 20, 1945. He went to Tucson to visit his brother, John, and decided to stay, where he met a girl whom he married. He then moved to Decatur, IL and worked six years for Army Signal Corp. He moved back to Tucson and worked for DMAFB for six months before transferring to government Air Force Offices at Hughes Aircraft. Mr. Mallas retired June 1, 1972. He did a small amount of traveling, enjoyed working on and developing his home property. He actively enjoyed ham radio activities since 1948. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, May 24 at 3:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Donations to St. Mary’s Carondelet Hospice would be appreciated.

MARGADANT, Clarys Lynette, born December 14, 1910, passed on to a larger room on May 18, 1996. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Edward Kenneth “Bud’ Margadant. She is survived by her son, Ted Winston Margadant, from Davis, CA; her daughter, Nancy Helen Margadant, from Tucson, and their families; her sister, Lola Runyan, from Camas, WA; her brother, Richard Miller, from Portland, OR, and their families. She was a mother and friend to many people who will remember her and the good times they had together. Clarys was an elementary school teacher in Los Angeles for many years. In her retirement she continued working as a real estate agent, and volunteer English as a Second Language teacher in San Clemente, CA. In 1987, she moved to Tucson to be near her loving and devoted daughter, Nan. She spent the next nine years living and enjoying life fully, inspiring all who knew her to do the same. Clarys shared and loved unconditionally, giving everyone permission to be themselves. She was an independent thinker, and worked passionately for human rights. She was a life-long learner. She loved art, music and children. She enjoyed playing bridge, solving crossword puzzles, reading, writing, painting, and traveling to exotic places. She typified class, dignity, and peace of mind that made all people from differing backgrounds or walks of life, both young and old, feel welcome and at home in her presence. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 23 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, followed by a service celebrating her life at The Fountains at La Cholla at 2:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Southern Poverty Law Center or Habitat for Humanity.

NIVEN, Alice P., 66, of Green Valley, died Sunday, May 19, 1996. She is survived by her husband, Lorne of Green Valley; daughters, Lorna and Mary of Tucson; sister, Leonie Demchuk of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Funeral Services will be held at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, May 23, 1996 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with Rev. Sharon Ragland of St. Paul’s UMC officiating. Interment will follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice.

O’CONNOR, Andriette, passed away May 18, 1996. She was preceded in death by her father and mother, grandparents; Mr. and Mrs. J.A. O’Connor. She is survived by her life long friends, Dona Chapman, Arthur E. Moreno; brothers and sisters, Arte (Carole), Rosemary (Ray), Linda, Elias, Bobby, Patricia, Alex (Stephanie), Ron (Terri), Joanne (Tim) and Ellen (Jerry). She is also survived by several aunts and numerous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 21, at TUCSON MORTUARY, (Center Chapel), 240 S.
