PHILLIPS, M. Dean, 39, of Tempe, AZ, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 1996. Preceded in death by his sons, Ryan and Clayton. He is survived by his wife, Kathy; and his son, Brandon of Tempe; parents, Kay and Nina Phillips of Tucson, AZ; Don Phillips and wife of Arlington, TX; sister, Martie Phillips of Tucson; three nephews and one niece; many cousins, friends and co-workers. Born in Tucson, AZ on April 5, 1957. A graduate of Amphitheater High School. He served a two year church mission in St. Paul Minneapolis, MN, as well as a tour guide for LDS Nauvoo Center in IL. Graduated from Arizona State University in 1991 with Business Degree. For the past 11 years he has worked for Caterair/Sky Chief. His position at Sky Chief was Senior Account manager from America West. He also worked for HandR Block as tax preparer, office manager and teacher. Even though Dean is gone we will always have the wonderful memories. Visitation will be Sunday, April 21 at Meldrum Mortuary, 52 N. MacDonald St., Mesa, AZ at 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the LDS Del Rio Chapel in Tempe (Del Rio and Los Feliz) on Monday, April 22 at 10:00 a.m. Graveside Services and burial will be at 3:00 p.m. South Lawn, Tucson, AZ.

ROCHE, Madonna (Donna), 88, of Tucson, died April 18, 1996 at St. Josephs Hospice. Before her retirement she was a real estate broker. She was preceded in death by her husband, John J. Roche; her parents, Dr. John and Mary Lynch; brother, Dr. Charles Virgil Lynch and sister, Marguerite Lynch McEvoy. Survivors include stepson, John F. Roche, Charlotte, NC; niece, Diane McEvoy Carver, Terre Haute, IN; nephews, John T. and James H. McEvoy, Alexandria, VA; great nieces, Carrie Carver Carpenter, Julie McEvoy, Sheila McEvoy, and Shannon McEvoy; great nephews, John M. Carver and Timothy McEvoy; step-grandchildren, Laura Roche Moser and Greg Roche; and seven great great nieces, nephews and step-great grandchildren. She was a member of St. Ambrose Parish and the Benedictines Oblates. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Sunday, April 21 with Rosary at 5:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be said at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 22 with burial to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. SNIDER, Stephen Spencer, 37, formerly of Tucson, died April 15, 1996. He is survived his mother, Barbara; sister, Ann; brother, Jamie; niece, Jessica; and nephew, Michael, all of Tucson. Stephen relocated to the Palm Springs area in 1987. He was a member of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, active in its youth programs as well as its Lay Eucharistic Ministry. He was also a member of Integrity Of The Desert. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, April 27, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 47535 Hwy 74, Palm Desert, CA. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Stephen Snider Memorial Fund for Youth, c/o St. Margaret's Episcopal Church, 47535 Hwy 74, Palm Desert, CA 92260.

THEWS, Edith E., 90, died April 19, 1996. Mother of Robert L. (Johnnie) Thews of Tucson; granddaughter and beloved caregiver, Jene' Rife of Tucson; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; and four sisters also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy Thews. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

VOGEL, Evelyn Capt (Overpeck), 87, died April 17, 1996. Survived by daughter, Gail Eiland (L.E. 'Red'); and grandson, Lee Eiland. She was born July 5, 1908 in Cochise County, in the Territory of Arizona and raised on ranches in Cochise and Santa Cruz counties. She graduated from Bisbee High School, attended USC and graduated from the U of A with a MA in English. A career teacher, she taught at Amphi, Tucson and Catalina High Schools. No services are planned. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

BISHOP, Mary Scozzarella, 75, of Tucson, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 1996. Survivors include daughters, Bonnie Spencer of IL, Linda Johnson of Tucson; sons, Scott Workman of OH and Ray Bishop of Tucson; sisters, Frances Schumacher, Grace and Rose Sacco, all of OH; eight grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Mary fought a six month courageous battle against cancer. Memorial Mass will be at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, April 20, 1996. The family suggests any memorial donations may be made to Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church Building Fund in memory of Mary Bishop, 1800 S. Kolb Rd., Tucson, AZ 85710. BROWN, Ellsworth Reynolds, II, 38, died April 1, 1996. Zell am See, Austria. Survivors include his wife, Gretchen Jones Brown; and son, Christopher Joel Brown of Kesselbach, Germany. (U.S. postal address CMR 467, box 5046, APO AE 09096); his mother, Helen Brown (Mrs. E.R.); sister, Elaine Brown; and brother, Howard Brown of Branford, CT; his in-laws, Russell and Gretchen Jones of Tucson; brother-in-law, Warner Jones of NY; and sister-in-laws, Charlotte Jones, Morrissey (Michael) of Phoenix, and Meredith Jones Weymer (Dr. Andrew) of CA. Mr. Brown was born in New Haven, CT, July 2, 1957. Following graduation from New Haven University as a mechanical engineer he was employed by General Electric as an international field engineer. At the time of his death, he was production manager for the Canadian engineering firm Bovar/Western Research in Hattersheim, Germany. Interment was in Branford, April 11, 1996. A Memorial Service is scheduled April 27th at St. Augustine of Cantebury Church, Weisbaden, Germany. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Augustine's Memorial Fund. CAIN, Robert Vernon, 75 years old, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in Tucson. Survived by his wife, Geraldine Cain of Tucson; one son, Robert Gene Cain of Tucson; one daughter, Linda Ann Johnson of Tucson; two sisters, Louise Peterson and Meckie Beekel, both of Tucson; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Services will be held Saturday, April 20, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, with burial to follow at East Lawn Cemetery. DARCY, William, 82, of Green Valley, AZ, died April 17, 1996. Survived by wife, Patricia Darcy; daughters, Kathy Darcy of Kansas City, KS, Anne Cleary (William) of Atlanta, GA and Mary Beth Jonkman (Michael) of Rockford, MI; sons, Neal Darcy (Lori) of Holland, MI and Brian P. Darcy (Maureen) of Carmel, IN; 11 grandchildren. Member of Green Valley Elks Club and American Legion of Green Valley. Also belonged to the Notre Dame Club of Tucson. Memorial Mass Saturday, April 20, 1996 at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley. Remembrances may be made to Notre Dame Club of Tucson Scholarship Fund, c/o Ray Tritz, 3520 Calle Vistosa, Tucson, AZ 85715. Funeral arrangements were handled by GREEN VALLEY MORTUARY and MEMORIAL GARDENS.

DARLING, Ralph E., 87, passed away on April 18, 1996. Born in Walton, NY, he was an active pioneer in life support products for the aviation industry and later for the astronauts in the various NASA space programs. He held numerous patents and received many awards for his efforts in this field. In 1948, Ralph founded the R.E. Darling Co. in Bethesda, MD. and moved it to Tucson in 1960 where it still produces many of these products today. He is survived by his wife, Mary; son, Ralph E. Darling, Jr; brother, Francis; grandchildren, Linda Caverly, Sue Darling, Gary Darling, Robert Darling and Sally Bockisch as well as six great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Philips in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave., Saturday, April 20, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. with The Very Reverend David Gillespie officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Philips in the Hills Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 65840, Tucson, AZ 85728.

DIETZ, Donald Fredrick, passed away Tuesday, April 16, 1996, at Navapache Regional Medical Center in Show Low. Mr. Dietz was born in Kenosha, WI, where he received his education and then went on to attend Fisher Body School in Waukeegan, IL, to learn to do auto body repair. Upon graduation he moved to Arizona in 1947 where he and his father opened Dietz Body Shop in Tucson which he co-owned and operated until 1992. In 1994 he and his wife moved to Show Low to enjoy his retirement together. No services are planed. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society. Owens Mortuary of Show handled arrangements.

Oliver C. Drachman 92, of Tucson, died April 16, 1996. Survived by wife, Alice; son, James West Drachman; daughter, Anne Rhodel Tartaul; grandchildren, James D. Drachman, Ann-Eve Berry, Oliver West Drachman; and three great granddaughters. Private Funeral Services will be held at St. Phillips in the Hills Episcopal Church, 4440 N. Campbell Ave. Saturday, April 20, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

ELLIOTT, Marie V. (Donovan), 73, passed away April 18, 1996. She was born in Marlboro, MA on May 21, 1922 and is survived by her husband of 46 years, Russell Elliott of Tucson, AZ; also son, George Elliott (Audrey); daughters, Joan Catt (Lonny), Lynn Palazzolo (Joe) of Warren, MI; grandchildren, Clint, Russell and Julee Elliott, Mark, Tiffany and Koury Catt and Lindsey Palazzolo; and one great grandchild, Dallas Catt. Also survived by her sisters, Helen Brennan of Marlboro, MA, Elizabeth Phaneuf of Cape Cod, MA, Aline Mott of York, ME; brother, Joseph Donovan of Tucson and James Donovan of Marlboro, MA. Services will be held in Marlboro, MA, however there will be a Memorial open house at 4765 E. 18th St. in Tucson (748-7119) for close friends and family on Sunday, April 21 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

GILBERT, James C., born September 12, 1928 in Elkins, WV, died April 17, 1996 in Tucson. He is survived by wife, Myrna; son, Curt, Lt. USN; daughter, Janice Beard; grandchildren, Jessica and Kevin Ward of Tacoma, WA; mother, Hazel; and sister, JoAnn Ebbs of Asheville, NC. He retired as a Lt. Colonel from the US Army Signal Corps in 1973, and the Army Intelligence Agency at Fort Huachuca December 1995. He was a member of the Sabaar Shrine Legion of Honor. The family wishes to thank all of their friends for their support and encouragement during his illness. Donations may be made to the Sabaar Shrine Temple in his name, or a charity of their choice. Memorial Services will be held in Asheville, NC. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

LARRA, Joe G., 79, of Tucson, passed away Wednesday, April 17, 1996. He is survived by daughters, Jo Ann (Art) Trujillo, Margaret Robles; granddaughters, Adrienne and Michelle Trujillo, Felicia (Roy) Lowe; sister, Reina Ortiz. Also survived by his friend Bea Marquez and her loving family. Joe also had many beloved nieces, nephews and God-children. Retired in 1978 as equipment manager from Tucson High School. U.S. Navy, VFW 549, K-C 1200, 3rd Degree Knight, R.A.T.S., Right Always Triumps manager of Marana Air Cadets, Baseball Team and Los Aguilas. Visitation will be held at St. Ambrose Catholic Church on Sunday, April 21, 1996 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, 1996 at St. Ambrose Catholic Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd. Rosary and Mass will be celebrated by Francisco R. Maldonado. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery and Mausoleum. Arrangements by TUCSON MORTUARY, INC. Now Joe is in Heaven coaching the heavenly baseball team.

REEVES, Homer Lawrence, 89, formerly of Bellaire, TX, 19 year resident of Tucson, died Wednesday, April 17, 1996 in Glendale, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Sally; daughter, Betty (Don) Vickrey; grandchildren, Donn (Kim) Vickrey, Susan (Eric) Spitzer; great grandchildren, Natalie and Haley; nieces, Beatrice Olarte, Jean Withrow, Marie (Vernon) Tanner, Betty (Arbon) Coker and Kathy (Ed) James. Mr. Reeves was a member of West University Masonic Lodge in Houston, TX. Graveside Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 19, 1996 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd., with Dr. David Smith of Casas Adobes Congregational Church officiating. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY.

SCOOPMIRE, John B. He was born May 17, 1908 in Seymour, IN, but lived most of his childhood and adult life in Gallup, NM. He worked for Chevron Oil Company, and was proprietor of Conoco Service Station. He also worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a fireman; as a salesman for Gallup Mercantile, and for the Coca Cola Bottling Co of Gallup. He retired in 1973 from Gallup Indian Jewelry. Mr. Scoopmire was preceded in death by his parents, William B. Scoopmire and Goldie Wilson Scoopmire and brother, Vance T. Scoopmire. He is survived by son, John W. Scoopmire (Andrea) of Gallup, NM; daughter, Helen A. McDaniel (James) of Tucson, AZ; sister, Lois Noble (Burton) of San Leandro, CA; brothers, Harry Scoopmire (Virginia) of Las Vegas, NV, Kenneth Scoopmire (Eleanor) of Albuquerque, NM and Harold Scoopmire (Phyllis) of Gallup, NM. The deceased is survived by five grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. Pall Bearers include: Darin McDaniel, James McDaniel, Wes McDaniel, Andrew Scoopmire, Douglas Scoopmire and Byrd Moss. Funeral Services Saturday, April 20, 1996 at 5:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Visitation will be Friday, April 19, 1996 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the mortuary. Services will be conducted by Rev. Philip Irby and Rev. J.B. Ryals of Emmanuel Baptist Church.

SMITH, Robert Clinton 'Bob', Lt. Col (Ret.) USAF, 66, of Tucson, died Thursday, April 11, 1996. Survived by his adored wife of 41 years, Ione 'Non'; beloved daughter, Lynda of Tucson; sister, Gale (Robert) Schaeffer; brothers, George (Karen) of Tucson, Jim (Joann) of Matawan, NJ. Also mourning the loss of Bob are nieces and nephews along with many, many caring, loving friends. Always willing to lend a hand, Bob was involved in many organizations and VITA was closest to his heart. Friends are invited to ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave (at Magee), on Sunday, April 21 at 11:00 a.m. for a celebration of Bob's wonderful life with Rev. Ray Plumlee officiating. Peter Sullivan 48, died April 14, 1996. Survived by family in Concord, MA; and many, many good friends in Tucson. Peter was an employee at R and S Auto Supply on Ajo and 6th Ave. for many years. Peter enjoyed riding his Harley, drag racing, music and cooking. A Memorial Service will be held at Reid Park today, Friday, April 19 at from 12:00 noon til dark. Peter will be missed by all.

VASSAR, Ruth Marie, 90, of Tucson, passed away April 17, 1996. Preceded in death by sisters, Minnie, Lola, and Olive. Survived by son, Clarence Love of Tucson; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Interment in Liberty Cemetery, Fresno, CA. Arrangements by ARIZONA MORTUARY.
