BESEMER, Martin, 83, of Tucson, died July 29, 1996. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Josephine; daughters, Shirley (Thomas) Itin of Michigan and Gail (Dr. Anselm) Parlatore of Washington; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Mr. Besemer retired from the executive sales division of Agway Petroleum, a northern agricultural co-op. He was a member of Elk’s Lodge #385. Services Friday 1:00 p.m. EVERGREEN MORTUARY, N. Oracle & W. Miracle Mile, with Reverend William L. Killian officiating. Interment private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s Hospital Auxiliary Scholarship Fund, 1601 W. St. Mary’s Rd., Tucson, AZ 85745.

BLEICH, Mary S., 86, a long time Tucson resident, died in Duncan, OK July 29, 1996. Mother of Janet (Robert) Cronian of Duncan, OK; two grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister of Jo Ditsch of Tucson. CARDELLA, Martin, Sr., 82, passed away July 30, 1996 at Scottsdale Memorial Hospital Osborn. Born January 14, 1914 in Chicago, IL. He was a retired printing machinist. Mr. Cardella came to AZ 20 years ago from IL. He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church in Scottsdale, AZ. He is survived by his wife, Antoinette Cardella of Scottsdale, AZ; son, Martin Cardella of Scottsdale, AZ; three daughters, Joanne Harris of Scottsdale, AZ, Dee Cardella of Scottsdale, AZ and Carol Sarlet of Tucson, AZ; one sister, Lena Modonia of Oak Brook, IL; 11 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Friends may call on the family on Thursday, August 1, 1996 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Messinger Mortuary and Chapel, 7601 E. Indian School Rd, Scottsdale, AZ. EARLY, Cynthia Jo, age 34, died Sunday, July 28, 1996 while visiting Los Angeles. She was born in Falls Church, VA on November 22, 1961. She graduated Suma Cum Laude from Saginaw Valley State University with an MBA degree. She was a co-owner of Mitchell Financial Services, a Tucson based mortgage bank. She is survived by her brother, Joseph E. Greene III; her mother, Jo Anne Cochran; her father, Joseph Earle Greene Jr., all of Tucson; and her maternal grandmother, Lilla Cleo Campbell of Royal Oak, MI; and her paternal grandfather, Joseph E. Green Sr. of MI and FL. A Memorial Service will be held at the EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., on Saturday, August 3 at 3:00 p.m. A gathering of family and friends will follow. MELILLO, Peter, 88 years old, died Tuesday, July 30, 1996 in Tucson. Survived by two sons, Peter A. Melillo of New York, NY, David D. Melillo of Tucson; two daughters, Marcelline V. Melillo of Littleton, CO, Emma-Luella Melillo of Albuquerque, NM; and two grandchildren. Graveside Services for Mr. Melillo will be held Saturday, August 3, 1996 at Holy Hope Cemetery, 3555 N. MILLER, Almeda, 73, of Tucson, passed away July 26, 1996. Survived by four daughters; three sons; two brothers; one sister; 19 grandchildren; and 2 great- grandchildren. NAGENGAST, Paul G. Nagengast, 47, went to eternal life July 13, 1996 after a short illness. He was born in New York and moved to Tucson in 1974. Beloved husband of Janet Nagengast; father of Amy (Gary) Ranta of AZ, Paul (Christine) Nagengast of CA; and grandpa to Ashley Nagengast of CA. NEWMARK, Irving, 82, of Tucson, passed away Wednesday, July 31, 1996. He worked as a metal fabricator and steel construction. Survived by beloved wife of 58 1/2 years, Mildred “Micky’; children, Bruce of Phoenix, Dorothy (Henry) Yanez, Carol (Gary) Richelson, both of Tucson; grandchildren, Brenda, Bryan, Sarah, Henry, Julie and David; great-grandchildren, Elicia and Andrew; sisters, Frances Sloan and Beatrice Reece, both of FL. Graveside Services will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Knights of Pythias section, 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 2, 1996 with Cantor Ivor Lichterman officiating. The family suggests that any memorials be sent to the Scholarship Fund of The Knights of Pythias, 2435 E. 17th St., Tucson 85719 in Irving Newmarks’ Memory. PATE, Glenn Smith, 63, died at home on July 30, 1996 of pancreatic and liver cancer. Preceded in death by mother, Ruby Purvis Pate and father, Alva Smith Pate of Russellville, KY. Survived by his wife, Louise; son, Daniel (Melanie) Pate; and daughter Jennifer Pate, all of Tucson. Other survivors include: Karen Pate, mother of Daniel and Jennifer (Tucson); brother, Robert Pate of Lexington, KY; niece, Karen (William “Wig’) Land; and two grandnephews of Nicholasville, KY; nephew, Kevin (Missy) Pate of Lexington, KY; and Viola Pate, Glenn’s stepmother of Louisville, KY. Extended family include Louise’s children and three grandchildren, Vincent (Margaret) Gosz, a daughter and son of Gilbert, AZ, Paul Gosz of Toronto, Canada, Carolyn (Wayne) Marietta and daughter of Tucson, Barbara Gosz of West Hollywood, CA. Glenn Pate was born and schooled in Russellville, KY and earned his bachelors degree in 1955 from Western Kentucky University, Bowling Green. He served three years (rank 1st Lieutenant) in US Air Force, Germany; attained Masters degree in teaching of geography, 1962, from University of IL; taught English and social studies for eight years in Evanston and Lincolnwood, IL junior high schools; earned his PhD in 1973 from University of California-Santa Barbara while supervising student teacher education and coordinating the secondary teaching credential program. Dr. Pate was a faculty member in the College of Education, Division of Teaching and Teacher Education at the University of Arizona since 1975 until his illness in fall 1995. He taught courses in secondary school teaching methods especially the teaching of social studies, educational foundations, gaming and simulation, educational implications of prejudice, values education, equity in education, and the teaching of geography. His special interests included prejudice reduction and Holocaust education. In the late 70's he completed a landmark study surveying the treatment of the Holocaust in world history textbooks. In 1978, together with the Tucson Jewish Community Council and the College of Education, organized a state-wide conference on the Holocaust awareness for educators. He published widely in the area of prejudice reduction among student populations. He specialized in supervising secondary student teachers and founded a publishing company to promulgate teacher-written lesson units. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 1, at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. @ Magee. A Scripture Service is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8650 N. Shannon Road, at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, August 2, 1996. Interment will follow at Evergreen Cemetery, 3015 N. Oracle Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dr. Pate’s name to a school or any organization promoting tolerance and social justice.

SCOFIELD, John J, 46, a resident of Tucson, died July 30, 1996. Survived by wife, Janet; children, Janea, Jacob, Jacey; mother, Katherine of Ann Arbor, MI; sister, Connie of Tucson; niece and nephew, Trisha and Jeremy Koons; Uncle, Robert Steeb of Ann Arbor. John was employed with Trico Electric Co-Op as a dispatcher. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 3 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave., with Reverend John Anderson and Deacon Dane Johnson of Enchanted Hills Baptist Church, officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday at the Mortuary.

DAVIS, Harold DuBois, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather passed away July 26, 1996. He is loved and remembered by survivors: his devoted wife of 53 years, Margaret Mae Davis; sisters, Mary Sibrel, Lillian Thoroman and Lynnette; children, Barbara Brown and Thomas Harold Davis of Tucson, and Patricia Thifault of FL; and six grandchildren, Margaret and Trisha Julien, Alexander Brown, Heather and Michael Harold Thifault and Rebecca Hernandez; and two great-grandchildren, Rustin and Dane DuBois Hernandez. Harold was a resident of Tucson since 1968. A Memorial Service will be held at Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 2121 Canada, at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, August 3, 1996.

GALEY, Robert, 65, of Tucson died Tuesday, July 30, 1996. Born August 10, 1930 in Pennsylvania. Self employed. Survivors include very loving wife, Mary of Tucson; sisters, Mildred of OK, Helen and Lydia of PA; brother, Joe of PA; also surviving are Mr. and Mrs. Joseph Olexa and family of Tucson, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Finch and family of Green Valley, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Olson and family of PA; Katherine Siarkowski and family of P A; and many nieces and nephews. KITCHEN, Edward Noel, Sr., 82, of Tucson, died July 28, 1996. He is survived by his wife, Mary Kitchen of Tucson; daughter, Noela Padilla of Alamogordo, NM; son, Donald Kitchen of Salt Lake City, UT, son, Edward Noel Kitchen, Jr. of Tucson; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Private family services will be held in Nevada.

LACHOWICZ, Catherine M., 84, died July 29, 1996. Survived by her beloved children, Joe Lachowicz of Tucson and Carole Lachowicz of Alaska; brother, William Mitzak of FL; grandchildren, Deana, Marc, Tanya and Nikolai; one great-grandchild, Kaela also survive. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph. Burial to take place in Glen Spey, NY. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

LEATHERMAN-JOLLY, Parthene (Stockton), 86, former long-time Tucson resident, died July 26, 1996 in California. Survived by children, Corinne Leatherman Daum of La Verne, CA, Virginia “Ginger’ Leatherman Goldman of Bristol, RI and Jefferson Leatherman of Globe, AZ; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild; sister, Francis Stockton Shelton of Safford, AZ. Parthene was a clerk in the Pharmacy College at the University of Arizona for over 25 years. Funeral Service at First Southern Baptist Church of Fountain Valley, CA. PARKER, Gloria L., 46, of Tucson, granted Eternal Rest on July 1, 1996. Gloria is survived by her husband, Leonard of 29 years; and daughters, Charlene M. Parker (fiance Robert Knissel) and Laura A. Parker of Tucson. Gloria, preceded in death by her parents Alfred and Marion Masulla leaving behind three sisters, Rose Marie Mele of Waltham, MA, Roberta (Ricky) Wilson of Long Island, NY and Diane Vogel; four nieces and seven nephews; and very loving friend, Mary Monacell. Gloria touched the lives and developed close friendships with many throughout her life. She moved to Tucson with her family in 1980 from Waltham and was employed by Rincon Answering Service from 1987 to June 28, 1996. She will be missed by all who knew her. At Gloria’s request, a Mass of farewell will be celebrated at St. Monica’s Church, 212 W. Medina Road, on August 2 at 6:00 p.m.

She is survived by her husband, Ernest Tanner of Tucson; son, Norm (Karen) Clark of Tucson; stepson, Jerry Tanner of OH; brother, Harold (Judy) Ross of IN and grandson Dana Clark of Tucson. CROSBY, Ruby M., 81, a 55 year resident of Tucson, passed away July 28, 1996. Born August 4, 1914 in Wyanet, IL. Miss Crosby worked at LeCaves Bakery during the 1940's and 50's as a sales clerk. Survived by her husband, C. Kenneth Crosby; daughter, Carol (Art) Comolli; grandsons, Randy, Wade (Karen); great-grandchildren, Charlie, Chad, William and Heather; sister, Mary Lou (Bob) Miller. A Funeral Service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 1, 1996 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Ave., with Visitation one hour prior, Rev. David Taylor officiating. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.
