McNAUGHTON, Clark H., born January 2, 1925 in Copperhill, TN, died September 20, 1996 in Tucson. Survived by mother, Penelope McNaughton; sisters, Jane Koch and Mary Welsh; and nieces and nephews. Graduated from Michigan Tech, was a US Navy pilot in WWII and spent his life as a mining engineer in various places across the country. A Memorial Service Friday, September 27 at 11:30 a.m. at Christ the King Episcopal Church, 2800 W. Ina Rd. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Assoc.

NORDMAN, Robert E., passed away Friday, September 20, 1996 at the age of 93. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 69 years, Josephine H.; daughter, Marcia Sanford (Stirling R); sons, Robert P.(Donna), William J. Nordmann (Mary) of Berryville, VA; grandchildren, Richard Sanford of Vista, CA, Robert Sanford of Tucson, Stephanie Lynch of Trabuco Canyon, CA, Russell Sanford of Tucson, Denise Koenneker, Marcia Croddy of Tucson, William Dornan of Chicago, MaryJo Mullins of St. Louis; and ten great-grandchildren. Robert retired from the Hoover Company in Michigan after 25 years of service. The family moved to Tucson in 1944. He worked for Inland and Elliott Electronics Companies, and in the late 60's he was night manager for U of A Student Union. He was an avid amateur radioe nthusiast, along with lapidary interests. He also belonged to the Masonic Lodge in Michigan. He will be missed and loved by his family and all who knew him. A Memorial Service is to be held at Devon Gables, 6150 E. Grant Road, Thursday, September 26, 1996 at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to a charity of your choice. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

REYNOLDS, Jon R., 59 years old, died Sunday, September 15, 1996 in Tucson.Survived by his wife, Marilyn Reynolds of Tucson; one son, Michael J. Reynolds of Tucson; three daughters, Lisa Page of Salt Lake City, Utah, Nancy Reynolds of Edwardsville, Kansas, Tracy Reynolds of Pomorene, AZ; brother, James Reynolds of Wellington, Utah; sister, Sandra Mansfield of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, September 28, 1996 at 2:00 p.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, 881-0338. RODRIGUEZ, Manuel Cendon, passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 1996 at the age of 97. He is survived by his loving and devoted daughter and her husband, Sarita and Donn McCann; grandchildren, Sarina and Susie McCann of Tucson; son and his wife, Efren and Jeanne Rodriguez of Los Angeles; and a circle of caring friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Sra. Nogueira Rodriguez who passed away in 1984. Mr. Rodriguez was born in Galicia, Spain on February 19, 1889 and immigrated to the U.S. in 1919. He worked for various construction companies in New York, at the Brooklyn Naval Shipyard as a pipe-fitter during WWII. He moved his family to Tucson for his wife’s health in 1948 and continued working as a cement finisher. He contributed to the building of the Marana Air Force Base, Titan Missle Sites, and the University Medical Center. He was also an avid reader and gardener. He will be greatly missed and will be remembered as a man of inspiration and dignity who instilled upon his family a tremendous sense of work ethic, pride, love and compassion. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 1996 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Saturday, September 28, 1996 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 N. Valley View Road. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

SIMS, Joe W., 69, born in York, AL, June 4, 1927, died September 24, 1996. He was a retired area manager for Santa Fe Pacific Pipelines, Inc. Survived by his wife, Patricia J. Sims; son, Kenneth Sims of Tucson; five stepchildren, Jim, John and Jeff DeSherilia, Jean Oakley and Mary Jo Finn; four grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, one sister, one brother, and a son, Joe Patton Sims. He was a Veteran of WWII, a member of the Sixth Marines Division Association, China Marines Association, Disabled American Veterans, American Legion, Tucson Rod and Gun Club, and National Rifle Association. No Funeral Services are planned at his request. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to In House Hospice at TMC.

STOUTE, William M., Sr., of Tucson, died September 22, 1996. Survived by wife, Mary of Tucson; children, Michelle Jones, Rhoda Thompson, William M. Stoute II, Adrienne Carr, Sherry Thomas; 19 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Edward E. BARTLETT, Ramon Jose, 10, of Las Vegas, passed away September 21, 1996. Preceded in death by biological father, Joseph L.Bartlett. Survived by mother, Maria E.Estrada; sister, Juliana Nicole Estrada; brother, Michael Estrada; grandparents, Elvira and Reuben L. Bartlett, Helen R. Sabo, Rosie and Armando Sr. Estrada. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 1996 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. CLEAVE, Forrest Haines, 75, resident of Tucson, Arizona, formerly of Portsmouth, Ohio, died Thursday, September 19, 1996 in Tucson. He graduated from the University of Illinois with a BA and received his MBA from Harvard University. He served as a Captain in the United States Army during W. W. II. He retired a Vice-President with “William’s” Shoe Manufacturing Co. He was a member of Phi Delta Theda Fraternity, Lifetime Member of the Salvation Army, an active member of both The Second Presbyterian Church in Portsmouth, Ohio and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Tucson. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce and numerous other organizations. He is survived by his daughters, Caroline Maxwell (husband, Jonathan) of Greensboro, North Carolina, Candace Wagner of Tucson, Cynthia Hammond (husband, Barry) of Springfield, Missouri; grandchildren, Gavin Maxwell, Jeremy Wagner, Zachary Wagner, Caroline Markley Hammond; his brother, Scott W. Cleave, Att. of Decatur, Illinois; sister, Rosamond Ham of Lexington, Kentucky; six nephews. Mr. Cleave was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Lou Cleave. On September 7, 1996 Mr. Cleave celebrated his 75th birthday with his family and so enjoyed hearing from his many friends. A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, September 28, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at St.Andrews Presbyterian Church, 750 Chapala, Tucson, Arizona, with Dr. Joe Bettridge officiating. The family would appreciate contributions to the Salvation Army, 1001 N. Richey, Tucson, Arizona 85716, in lieu of flowers. Arrangements through ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Avenue, Tucson, Arizona.

CRAIG, Marjorie L., 78, a Tucson resident for 43 years, passed away on September 23, 1996. Born March 10, 1918 in Wolf Creek, Ohio. Graduated from Ohio State University. Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert S. Craig, and is survived by four children, Herb Craig (Emerald), Wally Craig (Barbara), Linda Andaloro (Michael), Jim Craig (Annette); and by eight grandchildren. Marjorie “Nana” was loved by all who were blessed to be part of her life. Memorial Services will be held at Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway, Saturday, September 28, at 9:30 a.m.

DALEY, Joseph M., Sr., 59, died suddenly on September 20, 1996. Survived by wife, Barbara; sons, Joseph Jr., John and David; granddaughter, Margaret Ann. Mr. Daley was employed by Suntran before retiring in 1993. Memorial Services to be held October 1 at the Moose Lodge, 925 E. Bilby, at 7:00 p.m.

EISENBERG, Shulamith “Shullie’ Zevin, died September 22, 1996 after a valiant six-year battle with Merkel cell tumors. Born in the Bronx, NY January 11, 1920, she moved to Tucson with her husband Harold in 1941. They continued their lifetime commitment to community involvement for 55 years in Tucson. They helped found Tucson Community School, the Tucson Folksingers, and the Inner City Neighborhood Coalition, were involved in the desegregation of TUSD, served as co-chairs of the Community Development Advisory Committee for Block Grant Funding, and were active in Neighborhood Housing Services, the Pueblo Gardens Neighborhood Association, the Aviation Corridor Committee, the Tucson Committee for Public Involvement, and the Kino Neighborhood Association. Shullie was a mediator for Our Town Family Services, a producer for Access Tucson, and recently served as president of the Tucson Loan Chest. In recognition of their lifetime of involvement, Shullie and Harold received a 1994 Jefferson Award, the Ornery Critters award from the Neighborhood Coalition of Greater Tucson, several copper letters from the City of Tucson, and numerous other honors. Shullie and her husband, Harold, who died in March 1995, owned and operated Windowcraft for many years in Tucson, on North First Avenue and then on South Norris Avenue. Shullie is survived by two sisters, Matty Bress and Ethel Polakoff, both of New York; one daughter, Sandee Brooke; three sons, David (Patricia), Paul (Chris) of Sun River, OR and Jake (Tzvia); 12 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a large circle of loving friends and extended family. A celebration of Shullie’s life will be held within a few months, on a date yet to be determined. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you give time or money to acharity or cause important to you.

ESTRADA, Michael Anthony, 28, of Las Vegas, passed away September 21, 1996. Survived by wife, Maria E. Estrada; parents, Rosie M. and Armando T. Sr. Estrada; grandparents, Nellie and Jesus Martinez; daughter, Juliana Nicole Estrada; son, Michael Estrada Jr.; sisters, Annette Monreal, Anna Estrada, Sandra Estrada, Susan Martinez; brother, Armando Estrada Jr. He will be greatly missed by those whose lives he touched. Visitation will be held on Thursday, September 26, 1996 from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. at TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Friday, September 27, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica’s Church, 212 W. Medina. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. HODGSON, Lynn F., 96, of Tucson, died September 21, 1996. Survived by wife of 76 years, Nancy; daughters, Helen Mellberg and Linda Hendry, both of Tucson; sons, Eugene Hodgson of Tucson and Dale Hodgson of Sun Valley, CA. Services Thursday, 11:00 a.m., EVERGREEN MORTUARY with Pastor Thomas Savage of Amphitheater Bible Church officiating. Interment EVERGREEN MORTUARY and CEMETERY, N. Oracle and W. Miracle Mile. Friends may call one hour prior to service.

JOHNOFF, Florence M., 81, passed away Saturday, September 21, 1996 at Devon Gables Nursing Home. She is survived by her husband, Nick Johnoff; daughter, Ann Mays; sons, Nick Ivan and Carl Johnoff; grandsons, Eric and Alex Johnoff and Darren Mays. Florence owned Johnoff Realty for 25 years. She was a charter member and first president of the Women’s Council of Tucson Board of Realtors and a charter member of the Freedom Foundation. She was dedicated real estate and was very active in the community. Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 4 at 4:00 p.m. at Broadway Christian Church, Rev. Tolman conducting. Arrangements by Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME.

KNIFFIN, Lyall V., a resident of Yearington, NV for a few years and a former resident of Tucson, passed away August 30, 1996. He is survived by two sons, Patrick and Michael (Kelly); and four grandchildren, Melissa, Matthew, Joe and Ashley. He is also survived by two brothers, Bernard andWarren; and two sisters, Lorene and Leatha. He was a hero in WWII and awarded three bronze stars and a bronze star medal among other citations and medals for bravery. Graveside Service September 27 at 1:00 p.m. at East Lawn Palms Cemetery with Ft. Huachuca Post Military Honor’s Service.Burial of the cremains will follow.

MARTIN, Robert Leroy, age 65, a resident of the Tucson area since 1954, passed away September 20, 1996. Born July 8, 1931 in Plumer, Pennsylvania. Mr. Martin was an Air Force Veteran of Korea. “A loving husband, father, grandfather and friend, who will be dearly missed.” Survived by his wife of 44 years, Shirley; sons, Randall and Kip Martin; daughter, Tanya Martin-Thornton; grandchildren, Robert R., Cayla and Kateland. A Visitation will be held today from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Rosary at 7:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

POJE, Dragutin C., Sr. was born on January 23, 1917 in Bosanski Novi in the former Yugoslavia. Mr. Poje died on September 14, 1996. Any gifts should be to your favorite charity. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

SWALLOW, Alice L., 97, cousin of Dorothy G. Cottrell, passed away September 21, 1996 at a nursing care home in Tucson, AZ. Born November 14, 1898 in Dover Foxcroft, Maine. Daughter of Chester L. and Ella M. (Gerry) Swallow. She graduated from Foxcroft Academy in 1919. She was a member of Rebekah Lodge, worked for the State of Connecticut at the Veterans Hospital as housekeeping supervisor for 21 years. She came to Tucson March 19, 1962. Survived by nephew, William C. (Edith) Allen of Ellsworth, Maine; and cousin, Dorothy G. (Raymond) Cottrell of Tucson; also many cousins, nieces, and nephews. A Committal Service will be held in Maine at a later date. Those who wish to make a memorial contribution may do so to their favorite charity or the Foxcroft Academy Building Fund, 147 Main St, Dover Foxcroft, Maine 04426. Burial will be in the family lot in Maine. Arrangements by ARIZONA MORTUARY.

WELTER, Paul, 45, of Tucson, passed away September 21, 1996. Paul was a well known member of Iatse Local #415. He worked for years in local theater and stage productions and is the “Stage Left” presence at TCC. Besides this, and his work in several movies, Paul leaves a legacy of humor and grace to all who knew him. He is survived by wife, Deborah; daughter, Rachel; son, Corey; mother, Irene; brothers, Tom, Jim (Roxanne), Rob, Bill (Linda), and John Welter; sister, Kathy Welter; and beloved dog companion, Darlene. He was preceded in death by his father, George R. Welter. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 1996 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at ARIZONA MORTUARY CHAPEL, 7 E. University Blvd. Funeral Mass will be Thursday, September 26, 1996 at 10:00 a.m. at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E. Lee St. at Campbell Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery.
