GARR, Philip, 71, passed away Sunday, May 25, 1997. He was preceded in death by his parents, Athena and Salim Garbushian. Survived by his two brothers, John of Lafayette, LA and Sam (Irene) of Tucson; sister, Janet Bezdikian of Tucson. Memorial Service 1:00 p.m. Thursday, May 29 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL with Chaplain William Killian officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the United Way of Greater Tucson for the American Cancer Society. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

LYNN, Alice G. of Tucson, AZ, died early Sunday morning, May 25, 1997, at Columbia Northwest Medical Center, Tucson, AZ, after a sudden onset of illness. Alice Lynn was born in Indianapolis, IN, on June 30, 1930. She is the daughter of Russell W. Gorman and Mary Greenwell Gorman, late of Indianapolis. Mrs. Lynn is survived by her husband of 26 years, John R. Lynn, now residing in Tucson, AZ. Also surviving are a sister, Nancy O’Conner and her husband, Robert of Oseola, IN. There are also two surviving nieces, one nephew, eight great-nieces and great-nephews, in addition to Jean Paggett Gardner among many other close friends and professional colleagues. Mrs. Lynn attended elementary school and high school in Greenfield, IN. Upon graduation from high school, she received nurse’s training at St. Vincent Nursing School in Indianapolis. Thereafter she received a Bachelor of Science degree at Indiana University. Mrs. Lynn is remembered and loved as a teacher of psychiatric nursing. She taught at the University of Nebraska for six years. She then joined the faculty of her alma mater, Indiana University, where she taught for 29 years before retiring in 1992, with the rank of associate professor. John and Alice were married on February 20, 1971 in Indianapolis, where they lived until they moved to Tucson, AZ, where they have resided for the balance of their life together. Friends will be received to give their condolences at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee, Tucson, on Wednesday, May 28, 1997, from 3:00 o’clock until 6:00 o’clock in the afternoon. Funeral services will be held for Alice G. Lynn at Northminster Presbyterian Church with Dr. Richard F. Rowley and Rev. Kenneth D. Skodiak presiding on Thursday morning, May 29, 1997, at 11:00 o’clock. Her husband requests that gifts be made in her memory to the Indiana University School of Nursing, Development Office, 1111 Middle Dr, Indianapolis, IN 46202, or to any other Christian or charitable endeavor her friends and loved ones should choose.

MELTON, Robert L., 72, died May 26, 1997. Survived by wife, Patricia; children, Michael (Heather) Melton, Patricia (Jeffrey) Sadowsky, all of Tucson; brother, Roy (Betty) Melton of MO; grandchildren, Jason, Charles, Gina and Kelli.He was a member of the B.P.O Elks and a volunteer at the Pima Air & Space Museum. Memorial Service 4:00 p.m. Friday, May 30, 1997 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL with Rev. Jim Howard officiating. The family suggests donations to the Pima Air & Space Museum, 6000 E. Valencia Rd., Tucson, 85706.

MORGAN, Kathryn K., of Tucson, died on Monday, May 26, 1997 at her residence. She was 84 years of age. Mrs. Morgan and her family, came to Tucson from Pennsylvania in 1958. She is pre-deceased by her husband Lawrence, who died in December of the same year. Mrs. Morgan is survived by her sons, Keith Morgan of NM, Ross Morgan of Tucson, Kim Morgan of Tucson; daughter, Gayle Facklam of CO; brother, Art Kesselring of Vail, AZ. Friends may call at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), on Wednesday, May 28, 1997 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Private graveside services will take place on Thursday. Donations may be made in Kathryn Morgan’s memory to the American Heart Association, 5325 E. Pima, Tucson, AZ 85712.

VAUGHN, James Elbert, 88, of Tucson, passed away May 26, 1997. A Tucson resident since 1955, coming from MI. He taught school in a one room school house in Brazil, TN. He worked for T.V.A. in TN. He was a machinist for Ford Motor Co. in MI. He was a Machinist here in Tucson for Hughes Aircraft. Mr. Vaughn was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He is survived by son, James David Vaughn of Austin, TX; daughter, Marilyn Vaughn Mills of Tucson; granddaughter, Bethany Vaughn of Kansas City, MO; brother, Ambrose Vaughn, Jr. of Trenton, TN; sister, Mattie Lou Scarek of Chicago; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by wife, Verna Vaughn in January 1994. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held Thursday, May 29, 1997, at 10:00 a.m. at Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME, 22nd & Swan. Interment will follow at All Faiths Memorial Park.

WELCH, Margaret Rawson, 92, a 49 year resident of Tucson, born February 10, 1905 in UT, died May 23, 1997 in Livermore CA, while visiting with her daughter. She was a teacher and dietician, 1928 graduate of University of Utah. Loving grandmother, outstanding cook, excellent seamstress, loved to crochet, knit and read. She was a girl scout leader, member of American Association of University Women, Alpha Delta Pi, Womens Auxiliary to the American Institute of Mining, Metallurgical and Petroleum Engineers (WAAIME). Survived by daughter, Mary Kay Berg, Livermore, CA; son, John Welch, Greeley CO; seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; preceded in death by husband; Reed F. Welch who died in 1986. Services will he held Saturday, May 31, 3:00 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 1501 Hillcrest Ave., Livermore, CA. BATEMAN, Herman Edward, 80, died May 23, 1997, of Alzheimer’s disease. Born May 27, 1916 in El Paso, TX, he is survived by his daughter, Ann Justison of Oakland, CA and his son, Thomas of Flagstaff, AZ; wife, Arline of Tucson and grandchildren, Patrick, Kathleen and Elizabeth Justison and Tiffany and Wally Bateman. He was predeceased by his wife, June Fantz. 'Pete' was a professor of history at the University of Arizona for over 30 years, until his retirement in 1980, and served as associate dean of the Graduate School. He was a graduate of San Jose State, 1937, earned a master’s degree from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1939 and a Ph.D in history from Stanford University in 1953. During World War II he served in the U.S. Coast Guard. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, gifts in his memory may be made to the Department of History, University of Arizona. CARLSON, June Frame, 53, died at home Friday, May 23, 1997, on her birthday after a valiant battle with cancer. June was born in Staten Island, NY. Attended Southern Methodist University and graduated from Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn School of Nursing. She started and finished her 32 year nursing career at TMC, primarily as an O.R. nurse. In recent years she became a registered nurse first assistant. Her care, compassion, and high standard of excellence earned her great love and respect by all who knew her.
June is survived by her father, James R. Frame of Tucson; sister, Nancy F. Jacobs and brother, Wesley B. Frame both of Raleigh, NC; several nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by her mother, Evelyn G. Frame. A Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church UM, 5th and Craycroft, Wednesday, May 28 at 6:00 p.m. in the Chapel. Contributions may be made to Tucson Hospice c/o of TMC.

GOODWIN, William Charles, age 81, of Green Valley, AZ, formerly of Minneapolis, died Monday, May 19, 1997. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 55 years, Margaret. Former owner of Dealers Manufacturing Co., served on board of directors for Camden Norwest Bank and Employers Association of Minnesota. Survived by children, Nancy Farina of Tucson, AZ, David and Suzanne Goodwin of Deephaven, MN, Julie and Steve Lawton of Colorado Springs, CO, Scott and Tracy Goodwin of St. Louis Park, MN; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild. He was a gentle, kind, devoted and loving husband, father, grampa and friend. We’ll miss you Dad! Memorial Service celebrating Bill’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 1997 at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 1300 St. David’s Road, Minnetonka, MN. GREENE, Frances M. (Marie), 82, died May 24, 1997. Preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, William A. Greene. Survived by daughter, Della (Donald) Leverenz of Tucson; grandchildren, Theresa (Brian) Eglinton, Karen (Donald) Reinhold, William (E. Sue), Michael, Susan (William) Shader, Donna, Kristen (Lawrence) Strasser; sister, Berchie Wynn; six great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral Service, 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 1997 at BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Interment to follow at Desert Vista Cemetery. LANCASTER, Julie Ann, 35, died May 24, 1997. Survived by parents, Jim and Darleen Lancaster; brothers, Michael (Nannette) Lancaster of Tucson, Mark Lancaster of Salt Lake City, UT, Don Lancaster of Pottstown, PA and nieces and nephews, Colin, Brynn, Ashley and Austin. Memorial Services will be 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, Catalina United Methodist Church, 2700 E. Speedway, Dr. Harold Cowart officiating. LEVY, Wilna F., 66, died May 26, 1997.Survived by her loving husband, Gil Levy; son, Sam Levy; sisters and brothers-in-law, Helen and Gary Caldwell, Margaret and John Horn, Virginia and Bobby Davis, Ann and Frank Glick; brother and sister-in-law, Wiles and Margaret Faye Farr. Wilna fought a long and courageous battle with M.S. Funeral Services will be held, 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 29, 1997 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Burial to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make a contribution to your favorite non-profit charitable organization.

TARWATER, James, age 47, of Tucson, AZ, joined his father, Calvin and sister, Faye with the angels in heaven on May 22, 1997. Raised in Tucson from the age of five years old. After graduating from Pueblo High School in 1969 he served two years in the U.S. Army. James worked for 18 years as a driller at Duval Mines. He spent the last five years working at El Rio Health Center. He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; mother, Willodean; sisters, Elaine Mungeon and Frances Yarborough; brothers, Brice and Steve; children, Jimmy, Kristie, Tim and Jessica; his granddaughter, Andi, and many nieces and nephews. He will be remembered as a great lover of nature and friend to many. A Memorial Service will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (at Magee), on Thursday, May 29, 1997 at 11:00. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery on Oracle Road, Tucson. Donations may be made to Carondelet Hospice in his memory.

BAGLEY, Charles Frank, 79, of Tucson, passed away May 22, 1997. Beloved husband, father, and grandfather. Survived by wife, Lyra Jean; daughter, Virginia Lee (Jim) Bombard; grandsons, Charles and Patrick Huston; granddaughter, Coleen (James) Penski; great-grandchildren, Robert, Christopher, Charles, Allan, David and Christine Huston, and Jonathon and Shannon Irving; also brothers, John C. and George C. Bagley of Tucson; sister, Elizabeth Cummings of Palm Springs, CA. Charles is a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Tucson Masonic Lodge #4, Scottish Rite, and Charter Member of Sabbar Temple. Born February 3, 1918, in Phoenix, AZ, he graduated from Tucson High School in 1937. During WWII, he served with the US Army from May 1941 through July 1945 with the 761st Engineers Railroading Transportation Co., in both the African and European fronts. On return he worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad Co. for 40 years, retiring as a locomotive Engineer. He also served as Chief Engineer for several years with Bro. of Locomotive Engineers Div. 28. For years a devoted horseman and established Kleindale Stables and Gentlemen’s Acres. BAILEY, Margery S., 81, of Tucson, formerly of E. Peoria, IL, died May 23, 1997. Survived by her daughters, Marilyn K. (George) Meiner of Morton, IL, Judith A.(Edward) Burkardt of Mendota, IL; son, Ronald D. (Jeanne) Bailey of Elyria, OH; sisters, her twin, Margaret S. (Elmer) Grogan of Tucson, Esther (Harold) Miles of Danville, IL, Rosalie (Donald) Tonagel of Portland, OR; grandchildren, George Meiner IV of Morton, IL, Rebecca Wilson of Creve Coeur, IL, Jennifer Emerson of Hinsdale, IL, Melissa Kostner of Burr Ridge, IL, Douglas Meiner of Washington, IL, Andrew Bailey of Ypsilanti, MI, Anthony Bailey of Lima, OH, Kathleen Bailey of Auburn Hill, MI, Scott Burkardt of Loves Park, IL; nine great-grandchildren, six nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband, Clifford B. Bailey on April 7, 1989. Mrs. Bailey was a member of St. Odilia Church. Memorial Mass, Wednesday, 9:00 a.m., St. Odilia Church, 7570 N. BEMENDERFER, Hellen, 96, of Tucson, died May 22, 1997. Survived by numerous nieces and nephews and friends from Tucson. Cryptside Services will be at South Lawn Cemetery, with Rev. BRYANT, Ronald George, of Tucson, died unexpectedly on May 23, 1997, following surgery. Ron was born April 5, 1936 in Hollywood, CA. Ron grew up in Long Beach, CA and moved his family to Tucson in 1963. He was the first franchise for der Wienerschnitzel and built a respected place in the Tucson business community. He was an avid U of A basketball fan and had season tickets for 30 years. Ron was a member of the YMCA, playing basketball with the 'lunch bunch' who referred to him as 'Dog'. His love of the water and boating drew him frequently back to CA where he owned an avocado grove in Valley Center. He was a member of Southwestern Yacht Club in San Diego and the Friday Harbor Sailing Club. He is survived by wife, Jeanne; mother, Betty Roth and grandson, Matt Waite, all of Tucson; his three daughters and their families, Debbie and Mark Bennett and children Greg, Tim and Jacy of Mesa, AZ, Denise and Mike Smith and children, Dane and Lyndee of Dayville, OR and Dana Lynn Bryant of Mesa, AZ. A fourth daughter, Doreen Waite preceded him in death. He is also survived by sister, Bea Jae Armstrong (Gary) and nephews, Jim, Jeff and David Armstrong of CA. Ron was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and will be missed by all who knew him. He was a member of Fountain of Life Lutheran Church, 710 S. Kolb Rd., where a Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 27 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Downtown-Lohse Family YMCA, 60 W. Alameda, Tucson, AZ 85701 or Fountain of Life Memorial Garden.

CALLOW, Evelyn A., 80, of Tucson, died May 23, 1997. She is survived by her children, Patricia (Robert) Hoyt, Gennine (Bud) Gerard, Gene R. Callow and William D. Callow; her siblings include, Gary and Lin Smith, Myrna Eyer and Melba Santimore; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and one great-granddaughter also survive. Memorial Services will take place at the Recreation Hall at 1811 W. Prince on Wednesday, May 28, 1997 at 7:00 p.m., with Pastor Dan Hodgson officiating. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY.
