TORNQUIST, Susan Greer, 58, cherished wife, mother, grandmother and friend, passed away September 11, 1997. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul Greer and Evelyn Greer; and her brother, David Greer. Susan is survived by her loving husband, Dick; her children, Rick (Jonna), Stephen, and Anne Marie (Daniel); her grandchildren, Stephanie and Tyler; as well as many other family members and friends. Susan will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made on behalf of Susan to a charity of your choice. Barney Arnold Zeavin, 73, entered into rest at his home, September 9, 1997. He was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin with a BBA and worked for the U.S. Government as a C.P.A. for 34 1/2 years. He enjoyed traveling, stamp and coin collecting, and reading. He was preceded in death by his wife, Edna Zeavin, David Zeavin, April Antonetti. He is survived by son, Carl Zeavin; daughters, Becky Lines, Lorna Humphreys, Bonnie Bonfield; and grandchildren, Lana Lines, Paige Humphreys, Robert Bonfield; and sister, Lillian Breakman. Friends may call at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway, Friday, September 12, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, September 13, at 11:00 a.m. at the L.D.S. BATY, Frank O., Ret. Lieutenant Commander U.S.N., 78, died September 9, 1997. Survived by his wife, Thelma; children, Diane Day, Sandra Marshall, Judy Jensen, Linda Payne, David Baty and Darlene Baty; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one brother and four sisters. Friends may call Friday, September 12, 1997 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, September 13, 1997 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

BELL, Col. Maynard W., USAF Retired, passed away on September 10, 1997. Col. Bell was born in Roseburg, Oregon in December 1907. He attended the University of Oregon and was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and graduated with a BS degree in 1930. Following graduation, he worked on the San Francisco Examiner and the Roseburg News-Review. In 1940 he married Evelyn Willis of Canyonville, Oregon, who predeceased him in 1978. Recalled to active military duty in 1940, he was stationed in Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia and Italy during WWII. Later he was Executive Officer of 310th bomber group; Director of Personnel of the 41st Air Division in Japan, and Professor of Air Science at Montana State University. His last posting was at Davis-Monthan AFB where he retired in 1961. Col. Bell’s military honors included the Bronze Star, Seven Battle Stars and the French Croix de Guerre with Bronze Palm. His niece, Judith Bell Wales, his sister-in-law, Phyllis Bell, both of Tucson; his grandnephew, Herrick Wales, III, of Massachusetts; and his grandnieces, Kathleen Wales of Alaska and Lauren Wales Chanler of Connecticut survive Col. Bell. He was a long-time supporter of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, Arizona Chapter of the Nature Conservancy, Tohono Chul Park, Tucson Humane Society and Habitat for Humanity. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to any of above organizations in Col. Bell’s name. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.

Martha M. Casarez, 78, of Tucson, passed away September 9, 1997. Survived by husband, Florencio Casarez; daughters, Mary (Ray) Guajaca, Juanita C., Elida (Melecio) Mercado, Susan (Luciano) Gutierrez, Viola (Charles) Oakley, Lupe (Ed) Bray; sons, Ben (Gloria) Casarez, Tony (Marie) Casarez, Loren (Esther) Casarez, Louis (Pauline) Casarez; sisters, Frances Ponce, Consuelo Conrad; brother, Jose Moreno; 40 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren. Husband of Elianne of Tucson; father of Claude (Jacqueline) Leclair of Tucson, Daniel (Pamela) Leclair of Auburn, ME, Denise (Kenneth) Capriola of Lewiston, ME, Laurier (Diane) Leclair of San Antonio, TX and Celine (Daniel) Michaud of Tucson; grandfather of PFC Andrew Leclair; Rosemary, Geoffrey and Nicholas Capriola; Christopher and Mathieu Leclair; Robin and Michelle Michaud. Member of the Eagles and Knights of Columbus. Coordinators at Sacred Heart Church – Casa Maria Sandwich Makers. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Alzheimer’s Assoc. LUHRING, Curtis C., 78, of Tucson and Sunman, Indiana, died Sunday, September 7, 1997. He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Evelyn; daughter, Elsie Clark and husband Jay; son, David Luhring and wife Gloria; grandchildren, Curtis Hayes, Elizabeth Luhring and Andrew Luhring; and brother, Russell Luhring of Naples, FL. Burial services were held in Penntown, Indiana. Remembrances may be made to the American Heart Assoc. or to the charity of ones choice.

MCCORMICK, Yvonne Esperanza, 36, died September 8, 1997. Yvonne is survived by children, Pamela and Kevin Ambrose; their father, Jim Ambrose; grandmother, Tillie Monteverde; parents, Tillie (Gilbert) Nunez, Rudi (Olga) McCormick; brothers, John McCormick, Eric Nunez, Rudy McCormick, Jr., Danny McCormick; sisters, Cynthia (Richard) Sanchez and Lucinda McCormick; many other family and friends also survive. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 12 at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 9:00 a.m. Saturday, September 13 at St. Augustine Cathedral, 192 S. WATERMAN, Elsie M., 64, went to her Heavenly Father on September 9, 1997, 1997. WHITE, Jeanne Francis, 73, passed away September 2, 1997 at 10:30 p.m. Preceded in death by husband, Welman Lee White. Survived by one daughter and one son.

BEALMEAR, Brackett Kent, beloved son of Arden Bealmear and Patricia Brown; and stepson of John O. Brown, went to be with God on September 6, 1997. He was born September 14, 1968, in Decatur, IL, but lived in Tucson since infancy. He attended Amphitheater Public Schools and graduated from Canyon del Oro in 1986. He earned a Doctorate in Pharmacy and a Master’s Degree from the University of Arizona. He leaves behind his grandparents, Mrs. Coeta Murray of Edmond, OK, and Mr. and Mrs. James McLaughlin of Sullivan, IL. Brackett left a legacy enjoying the out-of-doors with many friends and family. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the Humane Society of Tucson, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., 85716. BLAIR, Claribel, 79, of Tucson, died September 8, 1997. Survivors include her children, Claire Moore, Doug (Susan) Bailey; two grandchildren, Carol and Ashley Moore; and one sister, Ary Goodwine of Palestine, Illinois. FERNANDEZ, Gustavo, Sr., 33, of Tucson, passed away September 8, 1997. Survived by wife, Angie Fernandez; grandmother, Graciela Maldonado; parents, Mr. Francisco Fernandez and Hilda Fernandez; daughter, Daniella Fernandez; son, Gustavo Fernandez, Jr.; sisters, Clementina (Pete) Trejo, Grace Fernandez, Hilda Fernandez; brothers, Rogelio Fernandez, Jesus Francisco Fernandez; brother-in-law, Julio (Maria) Verdugo. Also survived by numerous aunts, uncles and friends. He was loved by all and will be dearly missed. GERBER, Kenneth E., Beloved son of Joseph and Janette; Dear brother of David; Loving father of Daniel. Dr. Gerber was director of the Chronic Pain Management Program at the Department of Veteran’s Affairs Medical Center in Long Beach, CA. A member of the Clinical faculty at the University of California, Los Angeles, and a professor at California State University in Long Beach. He was the author of many books and research papers. Interment September 2, 1997 in Costa Mesa, CA.

GILBERT, Myron Dewey, Jr. Memorial services for Dewey Gilbert will be at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, September 14 at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church on the west side of Sabino Canyon just north of River Road. Mr. Gilbert died peacefully at his home in Tucson on July 14, 1997. He was born September 15, 1911 to M. Dewey and Ethel Vance Gilbert in Elis township, Hardin County, Iowa. He was educated in the public schools of Iowa Falls. He graduated from the University of Iowa at Iowa City, where he majored in business and was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. Upon returning to Iowa Falls, he was employed by the Weldon Brothers’ Construction Company for the Alaskan Highway project. He established the Gilbert Construction Company in Iowa Falls and continued to operate it, principally focusing on hospital construction, until retirement. He married Margaret Ann Wheeler in Iowa Falls in 1937. During World War II, Mr. Gilbert was a Chief Petty Officer in the Naval Construction Battalions commonly known as ”Sea Bees”. He served in the Pacific in Japan, Guam, Okinawa and Iwo Jima. After his discharge at Great Lakes at the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, he returned once more to Iowa Falls where he and his wife remained active in business and in the community until they retired and moved to Tucson in 1980. After Margaret Ann Gilbert’s death, Dewey married Gwendolyn Gohring Harding of Tucson and also Iowa Falls. Gwen and Dewey were active in the Tucson Country Club, the Volunteer Service Group, and the Literacy Program of Pima College. Dewey was particularly pleased at being honored for his work as a mentor in these two service organizations, especially with young people. Dewey and Gwen were members of St. Alban’s Episcopal Church. Dewey is survived by one sister, Mrs. Clifford Danielson of Sycamore, Illinois; and two nieces and three grandnieces. Arrangements by Hudgel’s SWAN FUNERAL HOME.

GRAVER, Duaine P., 66, of Tucson, passed away September 6, 1997. Survived by daughters, Claire (Denis) Skuse, Julie(David) Toms; sons, Paul (Margaret) Graver, David (Donna) Graver; seven grandchildren. Memorial Mass will be offered on Saturday, September 13, 1997 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Joseph’s Church. In lieu of flowers, family suggests donations be made to the TMC Hospice. Marion E. Harley, 83, of Tucson, died September 5, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Gloria B. Harley; his daughters, Marian (John) Petrole, and Patty (Mark) Strahler; granddaughters, Linda and Sarah Strahler, and Gina and Christina Petrole, and his faithful companion, ”Beauty”. Also survived by sister, Ruth Brickhouse of Frederick, MD, and brother, Theodore Harley of Hagerstown, MD. Mr. Harley was a Department of Defense Federal employee for 35 years. His work took him to many countries in the Middle East and Europe. The family expresses special thanks to the staff of Manor Care Nursing Center and to Carondelet Hospice for their caring help and support. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 10, 1997 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Private family services will be held on Thursday, September 11 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

MALGIERI, John C., 73, of Tucson, died August 28, 1997. He is survived by three children, John Jr., Donna and Linda; sister, Florence (Alex) Narvaez; brother, Nicholas Malgieri; fiance, Clara Prutzman; and several grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held on Thursday, September 11, 1997 at 11:00 a.m. at South Lawn Cemetery, 5401 S. Park Ave. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

MCDONALD, John E. (Jack), 43, of Tucson, died suddenly at his home September 8, 1997. Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Eleanor Mc Donald, he is survived by his wife, Diane; his brother, Richard Mc Donald of California; two sisters, Marilyn (Carl) Cooper of Patagonia and Kathleen (Tom) Ragland of Atlanta; his stepson, Darren Young; stepdaughter, Kelly Nierengarten; nieces, Erin Anderson and Lisa Garner; nephews, Scott Anderson, Jeffrey, Tom and Danny Stout, George and Jess Garner, Brad Konecnik; and numerous other relatives and friends. Jack was born and raised in Tucson. He graduated from Amphi High School in 1972 and earned his B.A. and Masters of Education from the University of Arizona. He was employed by Amphi Public School as a Special Ed teacher and as a teacher at El Hogar. Jack spent 14 years teaching at Ft. Defiance School District and several years in Ajo District. Jack touched the lives of many children – those with special needs and varied backgrounds. His sense of humor and smile and love of family will be missed by all. Visitation will be at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. at Magee, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., Thursday, with services to be Friday at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 939 W. Chapala Drive. The family requests donations to be made to the Amphitheater Foundation, 707 W. Wetmore Road, Tucson, Arizona. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel.
