HILL, Rick, 54, Donald Frederick Hill, Jr. was born January 19, 1943 to Dr. Donald and Ruth Hill, and died August 31, 1997. He is survived by his wife Elaine and son Daniel; sisters Susanne Imhaus and Nina Brown, both of California; nieces and nephews; parents-in-law William and Elsie Lewis; and many caring friends.
Rick was born and raised at Hill Farm in Tucson. He graduated Northern Arizona University and completed medical studies at the University of Arizona College of Medicine. He started Greer Ski Tours in Greer, AZ in 1977 and for nine years shared his love of skiing by operating a cross country ski touring center. He was an avid hiker, an expert skier, a naturalist and an equestrian. He was president of the Greer Chamber of Commerce and a volunteer of the Fire Department. He returned to Tucson, and upon developing severe emphysema he was the first Arizonan to undergo double lung transplant in 1990 at Washington University Barnes Hospital in St. Louis. The transplant gave him seven years to know his son, and although disease crippled his body, his strength of spirit never flagged.
A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, September 5 at 9:00 a.m. at San Pedro Chapel, 5230 E. Fort Lowell Road. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Old Fort Lowell Neighborhood Assn., 5230 E. Fort Lowell, Tucson, AZ 85712; Friends of St. Michael’s School, 602 N. Wilmot, Tucson, AZ 85711, TMC Hospice, or the charity of your choice.

MCDONALD, Vance, age 78, of Tucson, passed away September 3, 1997. His wife, Geannella, preceded him in death in 1991. He is survived by one son, John (Brenda) McDonald; and four grandchildren. Mr. McDonald was an active member of the 32nd Degree Masons, and also the 5 Points Lodge in El Paso, TX. He was a member of the Scottish Rite in Tucson, and the Elks Lodge #2532. He retired in 1967 from a long career with the Air Force. In 1981 he retired from the University of Arizona. Memorial Services will be at the Sabbar Shrine Temple on Saturday, September 6, 1997, at 10:00 a.m. with Larry Parton officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners Children’s Hospital or Transportation Fund, 450 S. Tucson Blvd., 85716, or donations may be made to the Elks Children Research Center in c/o the University of Arizona, in Vance McDonald’s name. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

PANCZYK, Chet, of Tucson, died September 4, 1997. Survived by daughter, Donna (Frank) Jacobs, Diane (Mike) Vernon; sons, Michael (Teresa) Panczyk, MI, Richard Panczyk; grandchildren, Steven and Kristin Jacobs, Monica and Andrea Vernon, Tucson; brother, Joseph (Joan) Panczyk of OH; sister, Helen Raczka, NY; numerous nieces and nephews. Mr. Panczyk was a member of American Legion Post #73, VFW Post #4903, a former member of Knights of Columbus and the Holy Name Society and usher at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. He was a dedicated father and loving grandfather. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. PEREZ, Virgil Joseph, 40, of San Antonio, Texas, passed away September 1, 1997. Survived by mother, Martha Longoria Perez, sisters, Maria, Cecilia and Christina Perez. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 5, 1997, from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY, (North Chapel), 204 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 6, 1997, at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. SHEPHERD, James H., 74, of Tucson, died September 4, 1997, after a brief illness.Survivors include his wife, Anne; stepson, James (Patricia O’Brien) Zielbauer; grandson, Jonathan Zielbauer, step grandchildren, Matthew and Cerridwen Johnson, all of Tucson; numerous nieces and nephews, especially Robin Laird of NYC, and Rebecca Taylor of Tucson; cousin, Genie Shepherd of Durham, NC; sisters-in-law, Ave and Viola Suire, Mary O. Doucet, Margaret (Archie) Parsley, all of Louisiana, and Sylvia (Howard) Taylor of Tucson. James was preceded in death by his parents, Milton Tracy Shepherd and May Sue Herndon Shepherd; sister, Mary Louise Sitze; and brother, Milton Shepherd. Retired after 20 years serving our country with the US Air Force, Mr. Shepherd was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Friday, September 5, 1997, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow with full military honors at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. BAZA, Harvey, born March 18, 1923, in Leonard, Michigan, died September 2, 1997, in Tucson, AZ. He was a retired pharmacist. Mr. Baza is survived by his wife, Madeline; a son, Franklin (Donna) Baza of Tucson; sister-in-law, Zoa Taylor. Memorial Services Thursday, September 4, 1997 – 1:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

BOONE, Beverly, age 62, of Tucson, died September 2, 1997. She is survived by her loving husband, Thomas; and children, Tom Jr., Pamela and Russell (Dauna) Boone; grandchildren, Jacob, Jessieanne and T. J. Boone and Kara Baler. She was preceded in death by her parents and four brothers. Mrs. Boone was consecrated in 1993 in the Lutheran Deaconess Association. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, September 8, 1997, at Resurrection Lutheran Church with Rev. William Snyder officiating. FATHAUER, Isabel S., 88, died September 1, 1997. Wife of Walter Fathauer; Mother of Mari Martin and Dorothy (Anthony L.) Arnaud; Sister of Lemuel Shattuck, Jr., all of Tucson. Five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren also survive. Memorial Service 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 6th, at Grace St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 2331 E. Adams St., The Reverend Gordon K.McBride officiating. Donations may be made in Mrs. Fathauer’s Memory to Arizona Cancer Center or Lemuel Shattuck Library of the Bisbee Council on Arts and Humanities. Gregory Allen Johnson, 52, died September 2, 1997. Gregory went to be with his Lord on September 2, 1997 as a result of cancer. Father of Shannon Woolfe, Scott Johnson and Rachael Liphart, all of Maryland; brother of Wayne Johnson of Roanoke, VA, Marilyn Johnson of Tucson, Laura Johnson of Florida and Sharon Burrows of Ohio; son of Joel and Edith Johnson of Roanoke, VA; grandchildren, Sarah Woolfe and Megan Liphart also survive. Mr. Johnson attended Calvary Chapel. Private family memorial gathering will be held. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

MASSEY, G. Robert, 78, of Tucson, died August 12, 1997. Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m. on September 5, 1997, at South Lawn Cemetery. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

PETERS, Margaret K., 94, of Tucson, died August 26, 1997. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 8:00 a.m., Friday, at St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church with Fr. Robert Fuller officiating. Entombment will follow in Holy Hope Cemetery Mausoleum. Friends may call today 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME. POSNER, Benjamin, 101 years old, died September 3, 1997. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Jean. He is survived by son, Marvin (Rita) Posner of NJ; daughter, Renee (Lou) Feinswog of CA; five grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren. Graveside Services will be held Thursday, September 4, at 10:00 a.m. at the Young Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Cong. ASHLEY, Albert K., 90, retired from the U.S. Navy, passed away August 29, 1997. He and his wife, Emma, have lived in the Tucson area for many years as winter visitors, living both in Tucson and Idaho. And in later years Tucson became their permanent home.Before his illness, both Emma and Al were active in the Senior Citizens group of Southwest Tucson. Al, is also survived by his daughter, Bernadean (Randy) Stockton, of ID; and his grandson, Wyatt Stockton, also of ID; and two step-daughters, Vera Hagin, of GA and Shirley Bynum of Tucson. Memorial Services will be held at the Southwest Community Center, 5950 South Cardinal, on Thursday afternoon, September 4, 1997, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

DAVISON, Yolanda Serrano, born May 23, 1926, in Nogales, Sonora, Mexico, went to our Lord on August 31, 1997. She is survived by her devoted husband of over 43 years, George B. Davison; daughters, Yolanda D. Dyche (son-in-law, David, grandsons, Dane and Robert Scott) and Julie Kogan (son-in-law, Wally, grandchildren, Alexander and Kayla); sisters, Gloria S. Blake, Elvia S. Cavazos and Irene Serrano; and brother, Jorge Serrano; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Miguel and Julia Serrano; sisters, Julietta S. Escoboza and Denia S. Loustaunau; and brothers, Miguel Serrano, Ruben Serrano and Armando Serrano. As a young woman, she was a member of Club C.I.R. for Catholics in Hermosilla, Mexico, and worked for Telefonos de Mexico for 10 years. After marrying George, moving to Tucson, and raising her two lovely daughters, she was a Gate Program Spanish specialist with the Tucson Unified School District, serving at numerous schools around the city for over 15 years. She also volunteered at TMC as a Spanish translator. Throughout her over 40 years in Tucson, Yolanda served the Lord as a vibrant member of St. Cyril’s Parish. Her warm smile, gentle compassion, and love of life, touched all who knew her. She is deeply missed by her family and friends. Funeral Services will be on Thursday, September 4, beginning with viewing from 8:00 to 8:30 a.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway). Rosary will be at 9:00 a.m. at St. Cyril’s Church, Swan and Pima, followed at 9:30 with the Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. DEWAR, Alida D. (Dolly), 77, of Tucson, died August 28, 1997. She is survived by her son, James R. (Evelyn) Dewar; grandchildren, Scott Dewar and Cindy Matthews (Troy); and two great-grandchildren, Broc Matthews and Brittney Dewar, all of Tucson; two brothers, Albert (Boots) and Dick (Mickey) Fink; sisters, Kitty (Ralph) Diehl and Shirley (Danny) Megenhardt, all of Allentown, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the Tony and Mary Carano and Jim and Lu Reffkin families, and her many friends at Far Horizons. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Carondelet St. Mary’s Hospice, 1802 W. FARRINGTON, Thomas Eugene, II, 69, born June 8, 1928, died August 31, 1997. Survived by wife, Barbara; sons, Thomas III and James Joseph; one sister, Ruth Eppley of Tucson; nieces and nephews also survive. FLAHERTY, Thomas W., 84, formerly of Tucson, died August 31, 1997 in Mesa, AZ. Survived by son, James T. Flaherty of Westlake Village, CA; daughter, Patricia Cox of Mesa, AZ; grandchildren, James, Lori Ann; Erin, Thomas and Timothy; sisters, Marge Pendergast and Helen Flaherty. GRONDIN, George H., 75, of Tucson, died September 1, 1997. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marion. He is survived by his brother, Everett J. (Cecilia) Grondin of Tucson; nephew, Everett (Jackie) Grondin, Jr. of Tucson; niece, Terri (Roger) Walton of Tucson. Services will be private. HUMPHREVILLE, Rita Anne, 71, of Tucson, died September 1, 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, George, in 1984. She is survived by her children, Sue Mullarkey, Georganne R. (Richard) Connors, Nancy Boyle; Paul (Debbie) Humphreville, Roger (Deborah) Humphreville; sister-in-law, Marilyn Hannon; son-in-law, Joseph Mullarkey; 14 grandchildren; and devoted companion, Gene Urdiales. Mrs. Humphreville was a retired, registered nurse, member of St. Cyril’s Catholic Church and Old Pueblo Square Dance Association. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, September 6, 1997, St. Cyril’s Catholic Church, 4725 E. Pima (at Swan).
