BANCHY, Susan M., M.D., age 36, passed on from this world August 16, 1997 to join her ”Beloved Companion” Dr. John A. Kelly who preceded her in death on August 3, 1997. She is survived by her parents, Eugene and Dorothy Karey of Tucson; brother, Kenneth Karey and his wife, Darlene and their children, Jennifer and Erik from Lancaster, MA; an aunt, Veronica Weselak and cousin, Marsha Brown, both of Albuquerque, NM. No Memorial per Dr. Banchy’s request. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Humane Society of Tucson, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., Tucson, AZ 85716. BARNETT, Florence A., 83, died August 16, 1997. Mother of James (Deborah) Barnett of Tucson, Patricia Sands of Korea and Carolyn Sue Dron of Georgia; sister of Freda Rice and Maria Dendy; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. At Mrs. Barnett’s request, no services are planned. Arrangements by BRING’S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

COTTRELL, Jacqueline Ann, 27, of Tucson, died August 17, 1997. She is survived by her parents, Brian and Diana; brother, Nathan (Heather); sister, April; nephew, Gage; partner, Bert Mueller; grandparents, Harold and Beverly Cottrell and Alfred and Edith Clark; and numerous aunts and uncles. Memorial Services will be on Thursday, August 21, 1997 at 7:00 p.m. at The Franciscan Renewel Center, 5802 E. Lincoln Drive, Scottsdale. GOTTESMAN, Iris, age 97, joined her husband, Israel, August 17, 1997. Born in New York City she came to Tucson in 1964. A devoted wife, mother and grand and great-grandmother, she is survived by her daughter, Ruth (Jerry) Vegodsky; son, Michael H. (Bonnie) Gottesman, both living in Tucson and daughter, Naomi Gottesman of New York. She is also survived by her brother, Paul Weinstein of Deerfield Beach; sisters, Millie Feldman and Ruth Effron of Hamden, Connecticut; four grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Graveside services to be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Congregation Anshei Israel Section, Thursday, August 21, 1997 at 9:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, make donations to the American Heart Association. KRUEGER, Lester P., age 74, died on August 16, 1997, Saturday in Tucson. He was born in Quincy, IL and a Tucson resident for the past 14 years. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Ethel (Dissler), Juanita (Currens), Lillian (Duesterhaus); and brother, William. Survived by brother, Carl of Albuquerque, N.M. and sister-in-law, Mary (William) of Kettering, Ohio; and many nieces and nephews. Mr. Krueger enlisted in the navy in 1942 and was honorably discharged in 1946. According to Mr. Krueger’s wishes, there will be no service. Donations may be made in his name to either TMC Hospice Center or the Rincon Congregational Church on Craycroft where Mr. Krueger was a member. Arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 881-0338.

MONTGOMERY, Marvaline ”Marva”, 90, of Tucson, passed away on Sunday, August 17, 1997. Mrs. Montgomery was born in Boynton, Missouri on January 23, 1907. She came to Tucson from Missouri in 1985. Her survivors include two daughters, Virginia Montgomery and Shirley Buzzard; one son, Robert Montgomery; nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), on Tuesday, August 19 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. A prayer service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Interment services are to take place in Missouri. Contributions may be made in her name to TMC Hospice.

COBB, Carl M., 80 of Tucson, died August 15, 1997. Survived by children, Carlene Deason, Sharon Davidson and Larry Cobb, all of Tucson; sister, Vera Puccio of Bryan, TX; and five grandchildren. Memorial Service Thursday, 3:30 p.m., Broadway Christian Church, 4741 E. Broadway, with Pastor Mark Luera officiating. Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice Family Care, Inc. 3443 E. Ft. GETTEL, Floyd, W., 67, of Tucson. He was born September 22, 1929, in Harrisburg, PA, passed away August 15, 1997, after a long courageous battle with cancer. Survived by loving wife, Betty of 49 years; brothers, Harry of Tucson and John and Bruce of Hagerstown, MD; sisters, Ethel (Charles) Goetz and Betty (Charles) Cantner of Hagerstown, MD; and many nieces and nephews. Floyd was employed at Magma Copper Co., and retired after 36 years of service. He will be greatly missed by his many friends and co-workers. In lieu of flowers, contributions to Hospice Family Care, 3443 E. Ft. Lowell, Tucson, AZ 85716. Graveside services Tuesday, August 19, 1997, at 10:00 a.m. at Evergreen Cemetery, arrangements by ABBEY FUNERAL CHAPEL 3435 N. 1st Ave. (888-1111).

MOORE, Ethel, age 92, of Tucson died August 7, 1997. Graveside Services will be at Pima County Cemetery, Tuesday, August 19 at 9:00 a.m. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, DODGE CHAPEL, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

PUMA, Madeline Josephine, 73, of Lebanon, OR, died August 15, 1997 on the Solemnity of the Assumption into Heaven of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Preceded in death by her husband, John. Lebanon, OR is the home of her son, John (Margaret) Puma; daughter, Mary (Michael) Hickson; and granddaughter Elise Hickson. Her step-granddaughters, Erica and Angela Hickson are of Washington state. Our beloved Madeline is also survived by her sister; Mary (Samuel) LoMaglio of Tucson; her brothers, Patrick (Elizabeth) Crino of Tucson, and Michael (Billie) Crino of Los Angeles. Her nieces and nephews are Joseph LoMaglio, Louise LoMaglio, Francine DeLeon, Sam LoMaglio, Anne Wilson, Mary Lacagnina, Patrick Crino, Teresa Mortensen, Margaret Seader, Cathy Crino, and Larry Crino. The Rosary Vigil was prayed Sunday with the St. Edward’s community in Lebanon. Madeline’s nephew Fr. Patrick Crino will celebrate the funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 20 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 1946 E. Lee St. in Tucson. ”Blessed are they who have died in the Lord Jesus; let them rest from their labors for their good deeds go with them”. Arrangements by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd., (520) 327-6341.

SCHAPIRO, Rosemary B., 76, died Thursday, August 14, 1997 after a brief bout with cancer. Survived by husband, Herbert Schapiro; two sons, Robert and Bernard Hickey; and one granddaughter, Diane Hickey. Rosemary was the treasurer of the Hemlock Society of Southern Arizona, member of American Humanist Assoc. and member of Humanist of Southern Arizona. Memorial Services will be held at a later date.

SPEARS, Dr. Sherry R., born September 14, 1936, died August 13, 1997. A native of Tucson. Survivors include her mother, Irene Smith; stepfather, Donovan Smith; her sister, Nancy Davis of Payson; brother, Bob of Sedona; two nieces, Donna Belk of Payson and Jacque Wilson of Phoenix; and numerous friends. In lieu of services and flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice in her name.

SWEITZER, Mary Alice, 82 years old, died Sunday, August 17, 1997 in Tucson.Survived by daughter, Janet Sweitzer of Tucson; four brothers, Stanley Poffinbarger of Tucson, Leonard Poffinbarger of Tucson, James Poffinbarger of Muskegon, MI, Darrell Poffinbarger of Laingsburg, MI; sister, Ruby Carmichael of Tucson. No Services are planned at this time. Arrangements handled by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 881-0338.

WELT, Betty L., 75, of Tucson, passed away August 17, 1997. She is survived by husband of 50 years, William Welt of Tucson; daughter, Bonnie Welt of Tucson; daughter, Elaine and her husband Jim Irvine of Ridgecrest, CA; brothers, Archie and Gordon McCallum, both of Canada. Betty was a member of Daughters of the Nile, St. Paul’s United Methodist Church & Amaranth. Memorial Services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, August 20, 1997 at St. Paul’s United Methodist Church with Rev. Sharon Ragland & Rev. Lew Runion officiating. WILSON, ”Chuck” Ben A., Jr., 59, native Tucsonan, died suddenly of a heart attack August 16, 1997. He is survived by wife of 30 years, Diana (Hammond); sons, Brian and David; brother, Brad (Donna), all of Tucson. Graduate of Amphi High School and employed by Aero Rental for 33 years. Member of Southwestern Chapter of the Buick Gran Sport Club of America. BREMER, Kenneth, 70, of Tucson, was taken home by his Lord on August 14, 1997. Survived by wife, Mildred M. Bremer of Tucson; son, Randy L. (Brenda) Bremer of Corvallis, OR; daughter, Gwen S. (Loren) Bos of Tucson; brother, Stewart (Betty) Bremer of Phoenix; sister, Barbara (Norm) Slagh of Holland, MI; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. CAGALJ, Mary Ann, 72, entered into eternal life on August 14, 1997. Mother of Michael (Tamara) Ranney of CA, Maureen Young of Saudia Arabia, Thomas (Deborah) Ranney of CA, Carol (Gregg) Forszt of TX, Paul Ranney and Ann (David) Walling, all of Tucson; dear friend of James Meritt; six grandchildren also survive. Rosary will be recited 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17 at BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Monday, August 18 at St. Francis Cabrini, 3201 E. Presidio. Burial in Holy Hope Cemetery. Mrs. Cagalj was a member of Elk’s Lodge #385 Women’s Auxiliary. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17th BRING’S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.

R. H. (Rick) Clark, age 78, of Tucson, passed away August 13, 1997 with his family present. Born 1918, Gainsville, TX, he served two terms in the Army (52th Engineer Training Battalion, OR), receiving two honorable discharges during WWII. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local 420, residing in Tucson since 1954, and a 32nd degree Mason. He is survived and sorely missed by Louise, his wife of 50 years; daughter, Donna (John) Kamper; sons, Richard (MaryLou) and Dale Clark, all of Tucson; grandchildren, Edward Haas and Tyler Clark (Tucson), Sean Torbett (OR), Wanda DeSalvo (NV), Ricky and Louise Clark (HI); sister, Hazel Sarantas (MI); and brother, Gene (CA). He specified no burial or services. His ashes will be scattered later at his favorite fishing spot. In lieu of flowers, remembrances be directed to Carondolet Hospice Service.

Katie Clark (Katrina Ann), age 9, died in a tragic auto accident in Tucson on August 13, 1997. She is missed beyond measure by her deeply caring family: her mother, Sheryl Joan Clark of Tucson; father, David Scott Clark of Atlanta, GA; sister, Danielle Breen of VA; grandparents, Robert and Bernice Gohrke of Tucson and Jeannine Clark of Pinetop, AZ; and uncles, Thomas Gohrke of Alpine, CA, Randy Clark of Tucson and Terry Mullins and Tim Mullins of AR. Katie lived her short life with great passion and zest. She loved her family and many friends. She attended Butterfield Elementary School and was an excellent, gifted student. She had a bright, independent personality. Katie had many interests and activities. She had an eclectic music taste and innovative artistic abilities. She was a great reader and a great game player. She was an enthusiastic swimmer and played in girls soccer and softball leagues. She loved traveling. She leaves behind her cat, Choco. An exceptional child, Katie understood much of life beyond her years. There will be a celebration of Katie’s life this Sunday, August 17 at 6:00 p.m. at St. Francis in the Foothills, Swan & River.Attendance by children will be especially welcomed. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Francis Katie Clark Memorial Fund for the Homeless, 4625 E. River Rd., Tucson 85718.

John C. Croci, 43, of Oracle, died August 14, 1997. He is survived by his wife, Maria; sons, Jonathan, Nathan and Pete; grandson, Jonathan; parents, John and Anna Croci of San Manuel; sister, Pam (Morisson) of Tempe; brother, Joe Croci of Oracle; nieces and nephew, Andrea and Nicole of Tempe and Amanda and Joey of Oracle; and other family members. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, August 16, 1997, 11:00 a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Mammoth, AZ. Burial will follow in Oracle Cemetery. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, AVALON CHAPEL, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (at Magee).

GUILARAE, Allen ”Jerry” age 88, of Tucson, AZ, died Friday, August 15, 1997 at home with those who loved her. Preceded in death by her husband, Rueben D. Allen and son, Jimmy Allen. Survived by sisters, Fae Matthews of Tucson, Ann Mosely of Tarrant, AL and Eva Lou Kirk; niece, Teresa Bostic who was raised by her grandmother Fae and her aunt Jerry. Jerry moved to Arizona in 1934. She has many nieces and nephews in Alabama plus Mardella Wood, Lee and Jack Stanley, Maureen Morrifield and their families; a niece, Diana Lee Vaughan, her daughters, Aundraya K., Alana Stark of Tucson; also her nephew, Dewey R.Matthews and daughters, Carrie D. Matthews of Chula Vista, CA. Services 3:00 p.m. Sunday, August 17, 1997 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY, 5401 S. Park Ave. Friends may call one hour prior to visitation. In lieu of flowers, donations to be made to the American Lung and American Diabetes Assoc. will be appreciated.
