During the intervening 82 years, Marianne Lyons accomplished many things of which she was proud, although if asked, she would respond that her most significant accomplishments were her three sons, 11 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. But Marianne achieved much more in her life than rearing children. Born and raised in Chicago, Illinois and Davenport, Iowa, following high school and a year of College, she met an Iowa young man, John Miller who she married in February 1937. A year after arriving in California, Marianne’s second son (Bill) was born at Queen of Angeles Hospital in Los Angeles. In the last year of World War II, Marianne’s husband, John had become employed by a defense contractor and there was also another child on the way.Marianne’s third son (Michael) was born in December 1945. Within five years, Marianne and John moved to the west San Fernando Valley. At this time Marianne was able to return to the business world, taking first a position as a bookkeeper at a CPA firm, Marianne Miller acted as: Office Manager of Kay Jeweler, Bookkeeper and Corporate Secretary of General Concrete Products, concluding her 30 years work (mostly in the financial world) as Controller of Avdel Corporation in Burbank. Following John’s sudden death in 1980, Marianne sold their house in Ventura County, California and moved to Tucson, Arizona, where her son Michael and his wife, Ann Marie live. In Arizona, Marianne volunteered for office work in the rectory of St. Odilia’s Church, assisted in recruiting food preparers for memorial services for deceased persons, contributed and collected food for the homeless, worked in the Catalina Roadrunners rummage sale and fund raisers, was a member of St. Odilia’s Martha’s Circle and a former member of Welcoming Committee Company Copper Creek Neighborhood Association. Only a persistent illness dragged her away from these activities that she loved to a God that she loved more. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking donations be given to ”Those Who Care”, 3200 N.
