DAVIS, William ”Don”, 88, of Tucson, died January 15, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Margaret; sons, Jerry and John; sister, Vida; and six grandchildren. Don was a longtime postal employee. Funeral Services will be held at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern @ Magee, Tuesday, January 20, 1998, at 10:00 a.m. Burial will follow at South Lawn Cemetery.

Donald Odell Douglas, 71 yrs old, died January 14, 1998, Wednesday, in Tucson. Survived by his wife, Mary Lou Douglas of Oro Valley, AZ; two daughters, Donna Soto of San Juan Capistrano, CA, Diana Spurling of Houston, TX; sister, Christine Caves of Springdale, Arkansas; eight grandchildren and three great-granddaughters. There will be a gathering at 9990 N. Hillview Dr., in Oro Valley on Monday, from 2:00 to 6:00 p.m., January 19, 1998. Arrangements handled by 881-0338.

LANE, Helen M., 82, died December 19, 1997. She is survived by many family and friends. Memorial Service will be held January 19, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of the Painted Hills, 3295 W. Speedway. In lieu of flowers donations to Carondelet Hospice, P.O. Box 13170, Tucson, Az 85732.

LOPEZ, Osvaldo G., age 79, of Tucson, died January 14, 1998. He was preceded in death by son Victor and two sisters, Margie and Lily and one brother, Joe (Bibi). Survivors include loving wife of 57 years, Lydia (Mona); six children, Vicente (Ozzie) O. Carm, Martha (Gilbert) Duarte, Anthony (Toni), Mercy Valencia, John (Marilynn), Roxie Lopez; 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Mr. Lopez was born August 5, 1918 in Ray, AZ. He is one of 10 children. He was a self made entrepreneur from an old Arizona family. He will leave a tremendous void in all the hearts that knew him. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd at Speedway, Friday January 16, 1998 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. with Rosary at 8:00 p.m. Mass will be Saturday, January 17, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Cathedral, with Rev. Vicente O. Lopez O. Carm officiating and bishop Manuel Moreno presiding. Burial to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Santa Monica Aids Foundation. RAPER, Kristen Marie, born August 7, 1991, in Tucson AZ, died January 16, 1998 after a long courageous battle with cancer. She is survived by her loving parents, Mark and Carolyn Raper; and her ”best” sister, Julie. Kristen never let her cancer stop her from enjoying life. She was loved by everyone who was lucky enough to meet her and will be deeply missed. Also survived by her grandparents, Ernest and RuthAnn Shoaf, Tom Raper, (preceded in death by her grandmother Joann Raper); great-grandparents, Helen Miller, Flossie Raper, and Mabel Underwood; aunts and uncles, Eston and Lois Shoaf, Becky and Steve Martin, Brenda Raper, and Mickey and Barbara Raper; cousins, Emily, Amy and Christopher Martin, and Bryan and Matthew Raper. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd, Sunday, January 18, 1998 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Graveside Service will be held at Eastlawn Palms Cemetery, Monday, Jan. 19, at 11:00 a.m. Kristen, you were taken from us too soon. SMITH, Spencer M. ”Spen” Born February 9, 1923 in Zanesville, OH, died January 14, 1998. He graduated from Vermont Academy in 1942 and entered Dartmouth College (46), where he became a Delta Kappa Epsilon, serving as president in his senior year. He was a member of Sphinx, Green Key and Palaeopitus. He served on the Inner Fraternity Council and became president in his senior year. Spen played basketball for Dartmouth and was a member of the 1946 Ivy League Championship Team. Served in the United States Navy Airarm, in the Pacific Theater, during WWII. Spen’s entire professional life was in the paper industry where he served as marketing and sales vice-president for three corporations during the course of his career. An excellent sailor, tennis player, hunter and fisherman, Spen belonged to many clubs and organizations in the New York area. He is survived by his wife, Doree; two children and four step-children; three grandsons and four step-grandchildren. His son, Spencer Grant Smith (Dartmouth ’71) resides in Seattle, WA. His daughter Pamela Smith Jackson lives in Tucson. A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 21, 1998 at St. Philips in the Hills Episcopal Church, N. Campbell and River Rd. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Vermont Academy, Saxons River, VT 05154. A Memorial Service and Inurnment will take place Friday, January 20, 1998 at Christ’s Church, Rye, NY.

VALDENEGRO, Salvador, 89, born June 10, 1908, passed away Friday, January 16, 1998. Preceded in death by wife of 52 years, Manuela and parents, Salvador and Ramona. Survivors include, Daniel (Gloria), Ricardo (Olga), Carlos, Patricio (Connie), Federico (Wilma), Alberto (Rosa), Eddie (Sherri); daughters, Mercedes, Ramona, and Carmen; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, leaving behind five generations. Mr. Valdenegro was employed with Southern Pacific Railroad for 42 years, and also a member of the Knights of Columbus Counsel 1200. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 19, 1998 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Tuesday, January 20, 1998 at 9:00 a.m. at St. Margaret’s Church, 801 N. Grande Ave. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY.

Judson C. Walp, age 68, died January 7, 1998 at 5:25 p.m. He is survived by his son, Judson T. Walp (Lisa) and daughter, Julie A. Schoup both of Tucson. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Stephanie Schoup, Melissa and Maranda Walp all natives of Tucson. Judd was an Air Force Veteran having served during the Korean Conflict, where he received the Good Conduct Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. It was during his military service that he was transferred from Pennsylvania to Tucson in 1951. Mr. Walp became a highly respected businessman, and was very active in his community. For many years he owned and operated Perry Heating and Cooling, Inc. He was a past President and a life member of Sertoma International. A gentle man with a big heart, Mr. Walp had entered into extensive philanthropic activities to benefit his fellow man, and he will be missed by many. In order to further his efforts, the family has requested that donations be made to Casa de Los Ninos, 1101 N. 4th Ave., Tucson 85716 or the Humane Society, 3450 N. Kelvin Blvd., Tucson 85716. The family rests in the assurance that Mr. Walp has gone to meet the one and only love of his life, his wife, Patricia, who preceded him in death on Sept. 20, 1992. Private family services were held. Arrangements by ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

WOLF, Les, Native Tucsonan Les Wolf (80 yrs.) joins his mother (Suzanne Pheiffer 1882-1988) and brother (John ”Jack” Pheiffer 1920-1996) in eternal rest as of January 16, 1998.
Leslie George Wolf Sr., known by many friends and family as ”Les”, was born in Tucson, at the ”Storks Club” August 14, 1917. He attended Safford Elementary and Tucson High School. Les played center field for the semi-pro American Legion Baseball Team prior to World War II. He joined the Navy, serving thru WWII, and upon his return, worked for the Southern Pacific Railroad. Les also operated a Richfield service Station at Stone and Ochoa until 1954, moving to the Columbus and Broadway Mobil Station till 1971. His business relocated twice more, leaving Kolb and Broadway in 1979 for the Mobil Station at Campbell and Glenn until his retirement in 1985. In retirement, Les volunteered with the Tucson Police Department until 1995.
Les truly loved Tucson and Arizona. He hunted and fished all over the state most of his adult life and kept a home in Pinetop for relaxation. Les is survived by wife, Alta of Tucson; son, Bill Wolf of Glendale, CA, son, Jim Moeller of Irvine, CA; daughters, Nora Lee Marsh and Suzanne Rodriguez; sons, Les Wolf II and Bob Wolf all of Tucson, including 13 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family request you honor his memory by serving the children in the neighborhood he grew up in by making donations to the Pio Decimo Children’s Center, 848 S. 7th Avenue.
We will miss this fine man.

Eugene Edward Lohberg, 82, died January 13, 1998. Father of Richard (Janet) Lohberg of Tucson, Paul (Sharon) Lohberg of Orange, CA, Jerry (Rose) Lohberg of Spring, TX, Joan (Gene) Fowler of Tucson, Jim (M.F.) Lohberg of Tucson and Jay (Lauren) Lohberg of Tempe, AZ; 12 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren also survive. Preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Corinne in 1995. His smile, humor and love will be missed by all. He was a WWII Army Veteran, earning a Bronze Star and a Member of Arizona Professional Photographers Association. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 17, 1998 at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 1375 S. Camino Seco, Interment to follow at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery. ORACH, Stephen J., 85, of Tucson, died January 13, 1998. He was preceded in death by son, David in 1956. He is survived by his wife, Lucy; sons, John (Celeste) Orach of Tucson, Robert (Mary Ellen) Orach of Santa Maria, CA; grandsons, Jeffrey (Eileen), Bruce (Jeannette), Mark (Lena) and John Orach; five great grandchildren, Robert, Nicholas, Megan, Amanda, and Candice; brother, Matthew Orach; sisters, Irene Geise and Lucy Ufferman. Mr. Orach was born in Croatia in 1912, immigrated to the United States in 1920 and moved to Tucson from Ohio in 1946. Private Services were held at Holy Hope Cemetery. READ, Clara H., 88, of Tucson, passed away at home on January 6, 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Philip C. Read. She is survived by two nieces, Jacqueline Walsh of Tucson, and Joan Siebert of Brookfield, WI.; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and her devoted companion, Cathy Doyle. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church, 8650 North Shannon Road, Tucson at 10:00 a.m., January 20. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Cancer Society. TOM, Beatriz C. ”Tichi”, 73, of Tucson, died January 14, 1998. Pre-deceased by husband, Johnny Tom and sister, Dolores Celaya. She was a co-owner of J & B Market. Survived by children, John Tom Jr., Helen (Ed) Benbow, Lionel (Marylou Nunez) Tom, Herbert (Elizabeth) Tom, and David (Sylvia Madrid) Tom, all of Tucson; grandchildren, Odin, Celina, Jason, Gina, Giselle and Carlos; sisters, Delia Lee, Delfina Don, Ana Maria Santa Maria, Crecencia Estrada all of Tucson and Maria Luisa Soto of San Jose, CA. Funeral Mass, Saturday, 11:00 a.m. Holy Family Catholic Church, with Fr. Richard Elford officiating. Interment Evergreen Cemetery. TREJO, Ana Maria A., 78, of Tucson, passed away January 13, 1998. Survived by daughters, Angie (Ramon) Quiroz, Anna (Marco) Ayon and Mary Ann (Ruben) Montoya; sons, Placido A. (Carol), David A. (Isabel) of San Antonio, TX and Gene A. Trejo. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 16, 1998 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO’S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 204 South Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m., Mass will be offered on Saturday, 9:00 a.m. at St. Augustine’s Cathedral Church. Charles Perry Weaver, 82, of Tucson, died January 12, 1998. He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Eleanor Weaver; daughter, Nancy (Gerald) Monsman of Tucson, and three granddaughters, Claire, Cecily and Christina Monsman. Perry came from a distinguished frontier Missouri family. He received his BA and law degrees from the University of Missouri, where he also played varsity football. He was trained as an officer in the USN during WWII at the University of Arizona and served both aboard the destroyer USS Gwynn and as Provo-Marshall in the Philippines. For many years he was a technical sales consultant for Gardner-Denver Corp’s international customers. Perry was integral to the invention of a submarine blast-hole drill rig that was used to build the St. Lawrence Seaway, widen the Panama Canal, and construct deep-water harbors worldwide. He was a member of the Masons and the Tucson Country Club. Funeral Services will be held at St. Phillips in the Hills Episcopal Church, Friday, January 16, 1998 at 4:00 p.m. Donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1636 N.
