John Tadeo Trujillo, 59, died January 21, 1998. Husband of Grace W. Trujillo of Tucson; father of Barbara Ann League of Mesa, AZ and Mark A. Trujillo of Everett, WA; brother of Abraham T. Trujillo of Tumacacori, AZ, Emelina Valdenegro of Tucson, Josephine Gaffney of Las Vegas, NV and Evelyn Ramos of Tucson; one grandchild, John David Trujillo League also survives. He was V.P. of Arizona Territorial Gourd Society and retired from Arizona National Guard. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at St. Ann's Catholic Church, Tubac, AZ. ZUTTER, Jean D., age 76, passed away January 22, 1998 in Tucson, AZ. He was born July 8, 1922 in Zurich, Switzerland. Jean spent the majority of his international banking career with the then Irving Trust Co. in New York and Paris, France, retiring in 1989. Most recently, Jean has served as a Director of the Board of AXA Reinsurance Co. He is survived by his wife, Clarice M. of Tucson; his sons, John D. Jr. of Briarcliff of Manor, NY, Alain S. of San Rafael, CA and four grandchildren. Also survived by his brothers, Louis E. of Chesterfield, MO and Bernard H. of Torremolinos, Spain. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Philip's in the Hills Church in Tucson on Tuesday, January 27, 1998 at 3:30 p.m. A special thanks to the staff of the Tucson Medical Center for their tender care. James Campbell Bailey, 78, a long time resident of Tucson and Pinetop, died in his home on Friday, March 20, 1998 after a brief illness. Mr. Bailey is survived by his wife Jane Hibner Bailey, daughters Ann (Bill) Fait of Carlsbad, CA, and M. Virginia (Fred) Arbogast of Tucson, son James (Vikki) Bailey, Jr., of Carlsbad, CA and many step-children and grandchildren. Born in Macomb, IL, he was graduated from Dartmouth College in 1941. During World War II he served as a flight instructor in the Army Air Corps. Mr. Bailey served as President of the Union National Bank in Macomb, IL and as a trust officer for the Valley National Bank in Tucson. Before retiring, he was Administrative Manager of the Optical Sciences Center at the University of Arizona. He was a life-long pilot and avid amateur radio operator (KE7WD, W6CTU, W7YXE). In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, Tucson Medical Center Hospice or to the American Cancer Society. A memorial service will be held on Saturday March 28, 1998 at 11:15 AM at St. Michael's Episcopal Church in Tucson, reception following services.

BENNET-ALDER, Grace, 77, died Saturday, March 21, 1998. Born in Toronto Canada to Esther Torrence and J. P. Grant. Had a career as a public health nurse and was a dedicated volunteer. Her current family is her husband, four children, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She is survived by two sisters and one brother. Celebration of her life at a date to be announced. Contributions to Unitarian Universalist Church of NW Tucson, 3601 W. Cromwell.

Lt. Col. Wayne Lamont Covert (Ret.) USAF, 84, died March 22, 1998 at El Dorado Hospital. He is survived by his wife, Louise Sproull Covert; daughter, Patricia Louise Covert; sister, Anne Baker; nieces, Emily Boylan, Peggy Boyd, Carol Macri (daughters of deceased sister, Ruth Eleanor Osborne), Nancy Hughes; nephew, Andrew Baker and many great-nieces and nephews. Son of Ora Ball Covert and Oscar Lamont Covert, he grew up on a farm near Grove City, PA which had been given to his great-grandfather for service in the Revolutionary War. He joined the National Guard of Pennsylvania in 1938, transferred to Army Air Corps in 1939, trained as enlisted Bombardier and flew numerous missions on Sub Patrol from Panama, South America and Galapagos Islands until sent to CBI Theater in 1942. He flew for General Chenaut in China, then back to India where he finished 50 missions. After 35 missions, he received a Battlefield Commission to Second Lieutenant. Upon returning stateside in 1943 he spent 13 years at Davis Monthan Air Force Base as crew member on B29's, B-47's and Squadron Navigator. In 1958 he transferred to Wichita, Kansas as B-47 Instructor and Chief of Bomb-Nav. In 1963 transferred to Statesboro, Georgia as R.B.S.' Detachment Commander then to Albany, Georgia as Squadron Commander of 12th R.B.S. Squadron, then to Colorado Springs as S.A.C. Liason to Aradcom. Wayne retired in Tucson in 1967 where he worked in real estate and for the City as a golf starter. He is a member of Troa, Seventh Bomb Group Association, Tucson Basha, American Legion, VFW, Pima Air Museum, Desert Museum and Saguaro Christian Church. Memorial Services will be held at Saguaro Christian Church, 8302 E. Broadway on Thursday, March 26, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Southwest Division, 1636 N. Swan, Tucson, AZ 85712. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

GALLEGO, Yolanda D., 39, went to the Lord on March 20, 1998 after a brief illness. She is survived by husband, Juan; children, Claudia Yvette and Juan Daniel. Also survived by her mom and dad, Gilberto and Ernestina Dominguez; along with her sisters, Sylvia (Ruben), Maria Elena, Leticia (Gilberto); and brother, Arturo (Patricia); and many loving nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by all. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 1998 from 4:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered Thursday at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. GRIMALDI, Anthony Michael, age 80, of Tucson, died March 20, 1998. He was born July 17, 1917 in New York City, NY. He was a welder for the Anaconda Wire and Cable Co. He is survived by his wife, Margaret (Hvozdik); son, Robert J. Grimaldi; grandchildren, Anne Marie Grimaldi, Johanna May, Cheryl Grimaldi, Michael Grimaldi; great-grandchildren, Ryan Jones, Jennifer and William May; sisters, Mary Rodie and Camille Massaroni. Anthony was a member of the Czech-Slovak Club of Tucson. Services will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

Morton Ocsay - Born in Budapest, Hungary. Came to the U.S. during the Hungarian Revolution in 1956. Presently living at 3201 E. Greenlee #51, Tucson. Survived by his wife Ruth; daughters, Evelyn Gaukroger & Susan Ault; grandchildren Sandy Warner, Shari & Michael Gaukroger & 2 great-grandchildren + Samantha & Chevy + many relatives living in Hungary & our special kids Lee & Mary Meshefsai. Retired 4 years ago after managing Rio Vista Estates for the Ashton Goodman Co. for 10 years. The family wishes to thank Dignata Hospice for their assistance. Services are private.

PRESTON, Norman, age 92, of Tucson, passed away March 22, 1998. A resident of Tucson for over 91 years. Survived by wife, Ethel C. Preston of Tucson; daughter, Norma Anderson of California; son, John Preston of Texas; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and also by four nephews and one niece. Mr. Preston retired from the US Postal Service in 1968, with over 30 years of service. Funeral Service will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, March 26, 1998 at Prince Chapel A.M.E., 602 S. Stone Ave., with Rev. Lee May affiliating. Friends may visit Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at ARIZONA MORTUARY, 7 E. SCHOLLARS, Harry Paul, 61, of Tucson, AZ, died on March 17, 1998 while working in Palm Springs, CA. He is survived by his devoted wife, Rhoda E. Schollars. He is also survived by his two sons, Todd (Helen) Schollars of Malmstead Air Force Base, Montana and Devin Schollars of San Diego, CA. He had three grandsons, Nathan, Matthew and John, and one granddaughter, Nichole. Harry was born May 16, 1936 in Kansas City, Missouri and spent his childhood in Omaha, NE, with his parents, Harry and Irene Schollars, both deceased. He was a resident of Tucson since 1985. A celebration of his life will be held March 25.

SNYDER, Herman (Herm) Carl, born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 12, 1922 and died on March 20, 1998 after a six year battle with prostate cancer. He is survived by his wife, Virginia; daughter, Ginger (Ed) Ludeke; son, Scott (Luann) Snyder; and grandchildren, Brooke (Paul) Mourreale, Josh Ludeke, Shannon, and Lauren Snyder, all of Tucson. Also brothers, Joe and Bob; and sister Lucille Mendenhall of Florida. Herm enlisted in the Army Corps of Engineers in 1942 and spent four years in the service as a Staff Sgt. His last two years were spent in India helping build the China-Burma Road. He and Virginia were married on December 4, 1948 and moved to Phoenix in January of 1949. Herm graduated from the Holt School of Horology in 1951 and went to work for the Dictaphone Company. In 1957 he was transferred to Tucson as Branch Manager of the Tucson office. For the next 30 years he worked for various office and audio visual equipment companies retiring from the Lanier Company in 1987. Recently he was asked what he was most proud of during his life and he said raising two wonderful children and getting to know his grandchildren. WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL is handling the cremation and in accordance with Herm's wishes no services will be held. Our family wishes to thank Dr. Hector Garcia and the staff at St. Joseph's Carondelet Hospice for the wonderful care they gave Herm during the last week of his life. You were loved by your family more than you knew and will be greatly missed. Arrangements handled by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL 881-0338.

ANDERSON, Ernest A., 79, of Tucson, died March 23, 1998. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Marie; one son, John (Anne) Anderson; three grandchildren, Jennifer, Tamra and Michael; and three great-grandchildren, Joshua, Christopher and Brandon; and one sister, Julia Orth of California. Graveside Service will be held at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Wednesday, March 25, 1998 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Olsen of Flowing Wells Assembly of God Church officiating. Florence Suddaby Barnhill, died March 23, 1998. Born in Milan, MI, Mrs. Barnhill came to Tucson in 1931. She was active in volunteer and community services which included the Red Cross during WWII, Cub Scouts, Junior Women's Club and Trinity Presbyterian Church. She served as Director of Volunteer Services for St. Mary's and St. Joseph's Hospitals for more than 15 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Othiel H. 'Barney' Barnhill in 1975, and is survived by a sister, Shirley Little of CA; two sons, Robert Barnhill of Sonoita and Larry Barnhill of Tucson; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. A Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 26 at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. Burial will follow in East Lawn Palms Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to either St. Mary's or St. Joseph's Auxiliary, care of Carondelet Foundation, 350 N. Wilmot Rd. Tucson, AZ 85711.

Estevan (Santino) Canez Jr., 10, died March 21, 1998. Estevan was born on May 7, 1987. Beloved son of Estevan R. Canez Sr. and Celia Alvarez; beloved brother of Cena and Abran; beloved grandson of Guadalupe Canez Sr, Cruz Rosalez, Celedonio Alvarez Sr and Leonore Alvarez; beloved hijado of Claudio Alvarez and Matilda (Manuel) Galaz. Also survived by many beloved uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Reunited with the Lord, Tio Mike Galaz, cousin, Esther (Lizette) Galaz, Tia Mary Moxico and all the dearly departed. Rest in peace, Mijo. A Wake will begin at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, March 27, 1998 at Capilla Senor de los Milagros, 2830 S. 12th Avenue, with a Rosary at 5:00 p.m. Mass will be said on Saturday, March 28, 1998 at 8:00 a.m. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. CASSIDY, William J., age 86, of Tucson, passed away March 23, 1998. Mr. Cassidy served in the United States Army. He fought through WWII including the Battle of the Bulge. He worked for General Motors prior to serving his country and than continued working for them until 1960. After moving to Tucson he worked at Do It Yourself Hardware Store. He than worked for Naughton's until his health failed. He suffered from Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease that eventually lead to his death. Survivors include his loving wife of 62 years, Marie; son, William; sisters, Rita Connolly and Lenna Harrison; nephews, Paul Harrison, William Harrison, James Connolly, Hugh Connolly, Tim Connolly, Richard Connolly; nieces, Carol Harrison, Judy Harrison and Mary Sue Connolly. He is survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway), Wednesday, March 25, 1998 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Funeral Services will be at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 1950 W. Irvington, Thursday, March 26, 1998 at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. McGloin officiating. Burial will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements byfamily owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

CRIVELLO, Vera D., 78, died March 24, 1998. Survived by cousins, Frieda Wilson, Bing Wilson, Wayne Weeks, Larry Weeks, Jewel Bodimer-Oliver and Rhonda Bodimer. Funeral Services and Interment will be in Alton, Illinois. Donations may be made in Mrs. Crivello's memory to University of Arizona Cancer Research Center, 1515 N. Campbell Ave. Tucson, AZ 85724. GIARDINA, Gaspar 'Gus', of Tucson, died March 23, 1998 of cancer. Survivors include his wife, Jean; and her son, John Kilpatrick. He was preceded in death by Mary, mother of his three children, Frank (Debbie) Giardina, Maryann (Howard) Williams, Jeanette (Dennis) Buster; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; two brothers; six sisters; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Gaspar, known as 'Gus' by his many friends, worked for American Airlines for 24 years at both JFK in NY and Tucson International Airports. He retired in 1983. Memorial Service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Thursday, March 26, 1998 at 5:00 p.m. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

GOODWIN, Virginia, 77, of Tucson, AZ, died Saturday, March 21, 1998, in Morrow Bay, California, with family by her side. Cremation has taken place and her ashes will be scattered at sea. Virginia was born February 1, 1921, in Philadelphia, PA and grew up in Indiana, PA. She attended Grier School in Tyron, PA, graduating in 1938. She married William H. Yates in 1943 and lived in Chicago, IL, for 15 years and San Francisco, CA for eight years; they had two children. In 1965 she married Walter L. Goodwin of Tumacacori, AZ and Santa Fe, New Mexico and spent the next 20 years as a rancher in Pojoaque, NM. In addition to her ranching activities, she was interested in Spanish Colonial Art and served as president of the Spanish Colonial Arts Society, Santa Fe, NM. She lived the past ten years in Tucson, AZ. She was a fine art photographer and had studied with Marie Cosindas, Todd Webb and Ansel Adams. Virginia personified class and style. Her homes were always filled with fine art, great food and drink, music and laughter. She loved to travel and to be among her family and close friends. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter Goodwin; her sister, noted water-colorist, gallery owner and long-time Tucson, AZ, resident Kay Bonfoey; and her sister, Charlotte Packard, also of Tucson, AZ. She is survived by her daughter, Christi Newhall of Morrow Bay, CA; and her son, and daughter-in-law, William and Lindsay Yates also of Morro Bay, CA; her brother, Edward Bennett Jr. of Sante Fe, NM; and seven grandchildren; Blaise and Janell Yates of San Francisco, CA, and Heather, Alisha and Graham Yates and Theo Newhall of Morro Bay, CA. Arrangements are by BENEDICT-RETTEY of Morro Bay, CA.

GREENWOOD, Orilla H., 94, a long time resident of Tucson, died March 22, 1998 at the Villa Campana Health Center. A native of Kentucky, she came here in 1934 where she taught at University Heights and Mansfield Jr. High until she was married to Kenneth R. Greenwood, who died in 1994. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Robert Y. Cravens; a niece; and two nephews. Mrs. Greenwood, born in Owensboro, KY, received her education at Georgetown College in KY, U of A and Peabody College. She was a member of the National Society of the Colonial Dames and a member of Chapter BB of PEO. She belonged to the President's Club of U of A and Georgetown College and was a founding trustee of Grand Canyon College in Phoenix. Visitation will be at the ARIZONA MORTUARY, from 10:00 until 12:00 on Thursday, March 26, followed by a private burial service.

GUSTAFSON, Opal Lucille, 89, passed away on March 14, 1998. She was born in Chandler's Valley, PA on November 25, 1908 to Pearl Johnson and Fred Brooks. A resident of Tucson since 1964, Mrs. Gustafson was employed by the Pima County Health Department. In 1995 she was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Alden Gustafson; a daughter, Joyce Benson and a granddaughter, Debra Benson also precede her in death. She is survived by her daughter, Dolores (Donald) Thuresson; and grandchildren, Michael Darling of Long Beach, CA, Sandra Darling, David (Judy) Darling of Tucson. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 27, 1998 in the chapel of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church, 1949 E. Helen St. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

KAUFMANN, Henry Heinz, passed away this 24th day of March, 1998. Born in Frankfurt, Germany on July 23, 1908. He was educated in Germany, Switzerland, England, The University of Arizona (BA and Masters) and University of Southern California (Ph.D). While in Germany, Henry worked as part of his family brokerage house.
Henry left Germany in 1938 as a refugee and traveled around the world before settling in Melbourne, Australia in 1939. He came to the U.S. in 1940 and to Tucson in 1945 as a Tuberculosis patient. He and his family have lived in Tucson for 53 years. Henry worked until the time of his death as a stock broker for Prudential Bache. Previously he taught as an Assistant Professor at the University of Arizona, teaching German Literature and Yiddish during the 60's and 70's. He has worked tirelessly as a fund raiser and board member for the South Arizona Jewish Federation, the Jewish Community Center, Congregation Anshei Israel, the ZOA, Tucson Hebrew Academy, Handmaker Home and the State of Israel.
He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Rosylne Kaufmann; seven children, Susan Johns (Ron), David Rubin (Marsha), Wendy Hooks (Loren), Paul Rubin (Brenda Stosberg), John Kaufmann (Eve Scarborough), Robert Rubin (Marcy) and Judy Rubin (Dennis); 17 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and three sisters, Hilda Reiter, Anneliese Goldberg and Lottie Frazer. He is preceded in death by his first wife (Inge, 1965); brother, Erwin Kaufmann (1989); sister, Ellen Schlesinger (1976) and his parents, Sali Kaufmann (1941) and Irma Gideon Kaufmann (1976). Anyone wishing to make a donation in his honor should make gifts to the Tucson Hebrew Academy or the University of Arizona Cancer Center. He lived a long and wonderful life. May he walk with God.
Services to be held at Congregation Anshei Isreal, 5550 5th Street on Friday, March 27, 1998 at the hour of 11:00 a.m.
