DARLAND, Harold D., 90, died April 24, 1998. Brother of Richard Darland, Floyd Darland, Donna Sullivan and Thelma Weeks. He was manager of 'SS Kresge Department Stores', now K-Mart Stores, his career spanned 43 years. Memorial Service 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 4, 1998 at Bring's Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway with Rev. Howard Higgins officiating.

SMITH, Ruth Louise, age 80, died April 29, 1998. She was loved and is survived by her daughters, Dianne Martin (Tucson, AZ), Ellen Begnoche (Garden City, KS); her son, Gregory Bolton (Atlanta, GA). Mrs. Smith was the widow of Ray E. Smith, whose brother, Ed Smith resides in Oklahoma City, OK. There will be no local services. The cremated remains of Ray and Ruth Smith will be combined and scattered over the Gulf of Mexico this summer, per their wishes.Cremation Society of the South, (770) 941-5352.

Dorothy Ann Davis Bachman, born November 15, 1927 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, died April 29, 1998 in Tucson. Dorothy is survived by her husband, Lt. Col. Frank L. Bachman Ret.; sisters, Bonnie Davis of El Cerrito, CA and Barbara Askren of Tucson; aunts, Gladys Wittwer, Margaret McKenney and Edith McKenney; daughter, Janene Osborn of Redmond, WA; son, William Johnson of Wonderlake, IL; daughter, Laura Terra of Libertyville, IL and six grandchildren, Jessica Ingles, Chris Ingles, Lillian Osborne, Kierstin Johnson, Matthew Johnson and James Terra. Dorothy loved to travel in her trailer, collect unusual artifacts and create artistic treasures from common materials. Her sense of humor and love of whimsy was contagious and inspirational to all who knew her. The family remembers her as spirited, independent and willing to laugh at her own foibles. She will be dearly missed by everyone including her two dogs, Sable and Charlie. Friends may call at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Avalon Chapel, 8090 N. Northern Ave. (at Magee) from 2:00 to 3:00 p.m. Monday, May 4, 1998 with funeral services beginning at 3:00 p.m. The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Heart Association, 5325 E. DETRICK, Thebert C. 'Det' 76, died April 30, 1998. Survived by his wife, Thelma; daughters, Joyce (Tom) Compton, Karla Holleran and Cathy (Michael) Pyles; grandchildren, Sherri, Thomas Compton, Kenny, Kelly and Kasandra Morrow, Shannon and Westley Wood; great-granddaughter, Alexis Lynn Wood. FITZPATRICK, Wilma Taylor, of Tucson, passed away on April 30, 1998. Survivors include her daughter, Wilhelmina (Donald) Shiplett; grandchildren, Donna (Brad) Giles, Michael Shiplett, Gayle Lynn (Keith) Kramer; great-grandchildren, Ashlee, Paige, Taylor and Andrew. Wilma was proud of her Transylvanian heritage, coming to the United States in 1921 with her mother and sisters to join her father. Her happiest years were spent in Indiana, where she will return for her burial in Elmwood Cemetery. In 1945, after her first husband, Andrew Taylor's death in Indiana, she relocated to Tucson for her daughters health and married Edward Fitzpatrick. Her love of cooking, music and gardening, especially her roses, was exceeded only by the love she had for her family. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 4, 1998 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd. at 11:00 a.m. with visitation prior from 9:00 to 11:00. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

Mother of Tina (David) Fotheringham and Kathy (Jimmy) Ortega; sister of Caroline Robledo, Beatrice 'Sally' (Gene) Timmerman and Walter 'Luis' (Martha) Romero; grandmother of Bryan 'Jim' Adams, Brenna Fotheringham, Katrina and Jimmy Ortega, Jr; aunt of Barbara (Gortan) Zepeda and Paul (Mary Helen) Robledo. Gastelum; three grandchildren; son of Mary Gastelum; brother of Frank S. Gastelum, Mary A.Ledbetter, Clara McInnes, Sylvia Amparano, Herlinda Pariseau. Preceded in death by his father, Frank L. Gastelum; his brothers, Gilbert E. and Robert Gastelum. Gregoria S. Grijalva, 75, of Tucson, passed away April 30, 1998. Preceded in death by husband, Ismael Grijalva; sisters, Paulina Flores and Dolores Colores. Survived by daughters, Alice Bassett and Angie Orantez; sons, Ismael (Carol), Roy (Maruja), Edward, Aurelio, Manny, Francisco, Alex and Rumaldo; sister, Maria Ortiz. Also survived by 36 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Sunday, May 3, 1998 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave. with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Monday, May 4, 1998, 9:00 a.m. at St. Margaret's Church, 801 N. Grande Ave. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. HENRY, Margie Edith, 82, entered into the presence of her Lord on April 30, 1998. A resident of San Angelo, Texas for the past two years, Margie had lived in Tucson, Arizona for 52 years. She was born in West Virginia on September 13, 1915 to Alex and Adeline Rollins who preceded her in death. Margie is survived by her beloved husband of 64 years, James C. Henry; her son and daughter-in-law, Roger and Claudine Henry of Arlington, Texas; her daughter and son-in-law, Betty and Ralph Graham of San Angelo, Texas. Also surviving are five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren and her special friends, Susan and Ralph Schild and daughters, Stephanie and Laura of Tucson, Arizona. She was retired and a member of Southland Baptist Church of San Angelo. A private graveside service is planned for the family. Memorials may be made to Gideons International. Margie loved her Savior and was a testament of His love by her life, her many friends and her many selfless deeds. We love you, Mama, and will miss you greatly.

HILGER, Sallie Ann, 48, of Tucson, died April 30, 1998. Sallie graduated from Xavier High School in Phoenix and received a degree from Pomona College. After working for one year in San Francisco she came to Tucson in 1974. She was a Medical Technologist at the VA Medical Center Clinical Lab and was a supervisor of the clinical laboratory for six years. She volunteered for Cystic Fibrosis and was a summer camp counselor. Sallie belonged to the American Association of Clinical Chemistry and Arizona Society of Medical Technologists. She was a cherished friend and courageous fighter who loved to experience world travel and gourmet dining. She is survived by parents, Leslie and Helen Hilger; brother, Leslie G. (Mary Elena) Hilger, Jr.; sister, Mary Elaine (James) Atwell and nephews, Leslie Hilger, III, James Atwell Jr. and niece, Katie Atwell. A Mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 2, 1998 at st. Ambrose Catholic Church, 300 S. Tucson Blvd. Burial follows on Monday, May 4, 1998 at St. Francis Cemetery, 5055 E. Oak Street, Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 2345 E. Thomas Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85016. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040N. Columbus Blvd.

KELLY, Albert Henry, 81, died April 30, 1998. Husband of Muriel C. 'Peg' Kelly; father of Charles V. Kelly, James E. Kelly and Cher (Marvin) Gislason all of Tucson; brother of Francis W. Kelly of Washington and Thomas R. Kelly of New York; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren also survive. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Council 6848 and St. Vincent De Paul Society. Mass will be offered at 10:00 a.m. Monday, May 4, 1998 at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 7651 E. Pima. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Sunday, May 3, 1998 with a Vigil Service at 7:00 p.m. at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. ROBERT BRUCE KREINER, of Tucson, AZ passed away on April 29, 1998. He was born on December 28, 1926 in Detroit, MI. He is survived by his brother, Eugene Kreiner of Brown City, MI; his daughters, Fay Hunter of London, OH, Lisa Shapouri, Pam Hernandez, Connie Eggman, Bonnie Skogman, Cindy Lutz, and Kathy Dalecke, all of Tucson; his son, Dale Kreiner of London, OH; also 18 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Bob will be greatly missed by all who knew him. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Carondelet Hospice, 1802 W. St. Mary's Rd. An open house for family and friends will be held on Sunday, May 3rd at 1:00 p.m. at the home of his daughter, Lisa Shapouri.

MCCONEGHY, Robert K. Jr., of Tucson, died on April 27, 1998 following a brief illness. Born in Pittsburgh, PA. on August 30, 1914 he had lived in Tucson since 1963. He was a graduate of the Peddie School in N.J. and Dartmouth College and received advanced degrees from Boston University and the University of Arizona. He taught at Palo Verde H.S. for 19 years retiring in1982. He is survived by his wife of 58years, Winifred; three children, Robert K. McConeghy III of Tucson, Matthew H. McConeghy of Providence, R.I. and Deborah M. Carlstedt of Mendham, N.J.; six grandchildren, Eric Carlstedt, Britt Carlstedt, Kristin Carlstedt, David McConeghy, Kevin McConeghy and Robert McConeghy also survive. He was a member of Elks Lodge 2532 and the Rolling Hills Golf Club. A Memorial Service will be held in Coudersport, PA. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Robert K. McConeghy Jr. Scholarship Fund, c/o Palo Verde High School, 1302 S. Avenida Vega, Tucson, Arizona 85710. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

MUENTE, Dorothea Charlotte, a resident of Saddlebrooke, AZ. Born in Detroit, MI on May 22, 1928 and died in Tucson on April 29, 1998 after a valiant battle with stomach cancer. Survived by her loving husband, Walter John Muente; daughters, Dolorie (Paul) Corley, and Suzy (Andy) Hess; twin granddaughters, Anne-Marie Corley, and Melissa Corley; sister, Dolores (Herb) Stride; brothers, Rudy (Maria) Malz, and Manfred (Marilyn) Malz; and numerous other family members.
Dorothea was a 1951 graduate of Valparaiso University. After raising her two daughters in Wilmette, IL, Dorothea was employed by the Midwest Office of Educational Testing Service, where she served as Purchasing Agent. She and her husband, Walter, retired to Tucson in 1990 where she came to love the beautiful scenery of the Catalina Mountains. Dorothea will be remembered lovingly by her family and friends for her unfailing courage in the face of cancer, her quick mind, her dry wit, her fierce independence, her incredible skill as a gourmet cook and her love of Impressionist artist, Claude Monet.
Visitation on Monday, May 4, 1998 at Catalina Lutheran Church, 15855 N. Twin Lakes Drive, Tucson, Az 85739, beginning at 10:00 a.m. with the funeral service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Catalina Lutheran Church or the American Cancer Society.

CASSLING, Irene M., 84, of Tucson, died April 30, 1998. She was preceded in death by her husband, Y.H. Cassling. Survivors include her son, William (Janice) Cassling; her daughter, Mary Cassling McGhee; grandsons, Eric and Patrick; and many other loving relatives and friends. Born in RockIsland, Illinois on February 3, 1914, Irene started her nursing career at Mery Hospital in Davenport, Iowa in 1932, also working at St. Anthony's Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois. Moving to Tucson in 1970, she continued her career at St. Joseph's Hospital for 10 years. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tuesday, May 5, 1998 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Cyril's Catholic Church, Wednesday, May 6 at 10:00 a.m. with interment to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

EKHOLM, Einar P., 82, of Tucson, died May 1, 1998. Survivors include his loving wife of 51 years, Irene; children, Beverly (Chris) Knoch, Einar (Debby) Ekholm Jr.; grandchildren, Todd, Ashley, Cody, Nicholas, and Kaitlyn; one sister, Ruth Parker; plus many loving nieces and nephews. Einar was a proud veteran and NASA employee for 30 years. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. Friends may call at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, 5801 E. Grant Rd., Tuesday, May 5, 1998 from 12 noon to 1:00 p.m. with Graveside Service to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.

HARRELL, George Brady, age 90, of Tucson, passed away May 3, 1998. He was retired from the US Government. He is survived by daughters, Nancy L. (Brooks) Beckner, Phyllis A. Chandler. Also survived by seven grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. Graveside Services are scheduled for Thursday, May 7, 1998 at 1:00 p.m. at Fort Lincoln Cemetery in Brentwood, MD. Arrangements by family-owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

WREN, Lyle R., 87, of Tucson, died May 2, 1998. Survivors include his sons, Logan (Mila) and Larry (Sara) Wren; and two grandchildren, Christine and Kevin Wren. Lyle spent his entire career with the aerospace industry and was a lifelong 32nd Degree Mason. Graveside Service will be held at Greenwood Memorial Park, 2300 W. VanBuren, Phoenix, Tuesday, May 5, 1998 at 11:00 a.m.

CHUMBLER, Gladys E., 75, died Friday, May 1, 1998 in Tucson. Survived by husband, Robert Chumbler; one son, Robert Chumbler Jr.; one daughter, Carol Ann Miburn; one brother, Graham Parnham; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Memorial Services will be Wednesday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. at Resurrection Episcopal Church, 7110 S. 12th Ave. Arrangements by WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway 881-0338.

DUHAMEL, Sara Jo, 56, passed away on May 2, 1998. A loving wife and soulmate. She is survived by her husband, Jonathan. Her spirit now soars free of the confines of a body that failed her. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 6 at the Ironwood Gallery at the Arizona Sonora Desert Museum, attendees may use the staff entrance. EDMONDS, Flo O., died May 3, 1998.Mother of Mary Ellen Johnson, M.D. of Connecticut; three granddaughters and six great-grandchildren also survive. FREMMING, Gordon H., Tucson's oldest premier builder passed away Saturday, May 2, 1998. He was born in Wisconsin and came to Tucson in 1941. He built Vista del Saguaro Silver Shadows Estates, etc. and developed major water companies throughout Tucson. He was past president of the Home Builder's Assoc. a 32 Mason, member of the U of A President's Club and Catalina Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Myrtle. Survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda (Dick) Lingelser of Alameda, CA and Pat (Ken) Welty of Springfield, VA; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral Service, 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 6, 1998 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, with Rev. Harold Cowart officiating. Masonic Graveside Service at Evergreen Cemetery with Adobe Lodge #41 F&AM officiating. Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 5th at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.
