June 18, 1934 – August 3, 1998
Passed away August 3, 1998 and is in Paradise with the Lord Jesus Christ. Preceded in death by parents, Felix and Ramona Valdez. Loving wife of 43 years and survived by husband, Fred; devoted mother and grandmother. Survived by son, Fred Jr. and daughters, Aida (Kurt) Den Baars, Vivian (Tony) Kulp, Cece (Mike) Salcido and Anna (Michael) Lioy; grandchildren, Erin, Jonathan, Tony, Elena, Anthony and Nicholas. Survived by five brothers and two sisters, Alex Sr. (Sally), Elias (Nellie), Arcenio (Norma), Manuel (Panchita), Felix Jr. (Helen) and sisters, Evelina and Margaret Valdez. Mary was a beautiful, loving, caring wife. She was a devoted catholic and a member of the third order of Saint Francis, the Legion of Mary and a Eucharistic Minister at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish. Special thanks to the staff at the hospice unit at St. Joseph's. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Carondelet Foundation, 350 N. Wilmot, T/A 85711. We will all miss her dearly. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6, 1998 at Our Mother of Sorrows Parish, 1800 S. Kolb Rd. with interment to follow at Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Bring's Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway.

SCHWANENBERGER, Charles B. (Chuck), Passed away August 1, 1998. A Tucson, Arizona resident since 1952. Born in Wheeling, WV, January 7, 1924. Preceded in death by son David; his parents William P. and Elva Manners Schwanenberger and sister Betty Schwanenberger. Survived by his wife of 51 years, Betty (Bond) Schwanenberger; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Laurie, grandchildren Bryan, Brittani and Brianna Schwanenberger; his brother William G. Schwanenberger, Wheeling, WV; sister Madalyn (Gerald) Eddy, Woodsfield OH; numerous nieces and nephews. Served in the United States Navy from 1943 to 1946. Graduated from West Liberty State College, West Liberty, WV, in 1950. Retired after 31 1/2 years as a contract administrator at Hughes Aircraft Co., Tucson, AZ. Member of West Liberty State College Alumni Association, Wheeling B.P.O. Elks No. 28, Destroyer Escort Sailor's Association (Arizona and National Chapters). As per Chuck's request there are to be no services after cremation. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to West Liberty State College Foundation, Black and Gold Club, West Liberty, WV, 26074.

YALL, Dr. Irving, 75, of Tucson, died August 3, 1998. He was a retired Professor of Microbiology and Scientist at the University of Arizona, a member of the U of A Retirement Association; and was a US Army WWII Veteran. He is survived by his wife, Jency Yall of Tucson; and uncle, Morris Weinstein of Tucson. Graveside Service, Thursday, August 6, 11:00 a.m. Congregation Anshei Israel Section of Evergreen Cemetery with Rabbi Joseph Weizenbaum officiating. Arrangements by EVERGREEN MORTUARY & CEMETERY, N. HANSEN, John R. 'Koegel' age 57, died July 27, 1998 in Tucson, Arizona. He was born in Abilene, Texas and a tradesman for many years. Surviving are his wife, Sandra of 135 Mooney Ave., Syracuse, NY; two daughters, Sheri and Debra; three sons, Roger, Stephen, James; two sisters, Shirley Richer and Barbara Burke; a brother, Howard Koegel; his mother, Laura Koegel, several grandchildren. Services are Friday, 11:00 a.m. Graveside in White Chapel Memory Gardens, DeWitt, NY. Calling hours are 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. Thursday at the Maurer Funeral Home, 300 Second St., Liverpool, NY. Contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 7145 Henry Clay Blvd., Liverpool, N.Y. 13088.

KIEREN, Chester John, 56, originally from Globe, died August 2, 1998 of illness related to chronic lymphocitic leukemia. Loving Husband, great Dad and a wonderful Grandfather, he is survived by his wife, Sally; children, Tim (Amanda) Kieren, Cindy (Wallace) Byerly and Bryce, Noel, Sarah and Elder Jared Kieren; grandchildren, Cristy and Sabrina Byerly and Stuart and Joshua Kieren and brother, Robert Kieren of Globe, AZ. Mr. Kieren served in the LDS Bishopric of the Institute 1st Ward and coached many of the boys of Tucson North Stake. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 6th at LaCholla Ward LDS Church, 939 W. Chapala Drive, with Bishop Corby Gardiner officiating. Friends may call at the church from 9:00 a.m. until service time on Thursday, August 6. Arrangements by BRING'S MEMORIAL CHAPEL, 236 S. Scott.

LIMBERT-ELLIS, Cynthia Ann. Cindy of Louisville, CO, died of natural causes on June 24, 1998. She was 43. She was born September 10, 1954 in Cincinnati to Donald Limbert and Lorraine Dick Limbert. She married John Ellis on June 25, 1994 in Boulder, CO. Mrs. Ellis was a Special Education teacher at Myers-Ganoung for approximately 14 years in the Tucson Unified School District. She moved to Boulder, Colo. four years ago, where she also taught Special Education. Survivors include her husband of Louisville; her parents of Cincinnati, and a sister, Carol Lerch of Oberlin, Ohio. Memorial Services will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Sunday, August 9th at Rincon Congregational Church Church at 122 N. Craycroft, Tucson, with Rev. Lumsden officiating. Services will conclude with the release of balloons. In lieu of flowers, at her husband's request, contributions may be made to Casa de los Ninos, 1101 N. 4th Ave., Tucson, AZ 85708.

LUNSFORD, Earl Newton, 83, of Tucson, died August 4, 1998. Born in 1914, he died three days short of his 84th birthday. He was born in Sioux Falls, S.D., attended school and graduated from Washington High School. After serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater during World War II, he returned to Sioux Falls and worked for the John Deere and Ford Motor Company dealerships. In 1967 he and his wife, Marjorie Spitler, moved to Tucson because of Mr. Lunsford's failing health. They observed their 55th wedding anniversary in 1997. He is survived by three nephews, Lance Seidel of PA, Walter Seidel of VA, and Dan Seidel of DE; one niece, Mary Ann Synan of VA; five great-nephews, three great-nieces; and one cousin, John Lunsford of Marion, IN also survive. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the family plot in Mt. Pleasant, Sioux Falls, S.D. with full military honors. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

MANNING, Betty Lou, 71, of Tucson, died July 30, 1998. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd.

MOORE REED, Judith Gail, age 44, passed away Sunday, August 2, 1998. She is survived by one son, Rick Trimmer; one daughter, Kristi Trimmer; and her mother, Joann Moore, all of Tucson; one brother, Tom Moore (Sherida) of Hayden, Indiana; three sisters, Areta Finch and Beverly Jo Smith, both of Tucson, Debbie Alvarez (Fred) of Holbrook, AZ. Also surviving are five nephews and one niece. Judith was preceded in death by her father, Earl Moore, who died in 1985. Funeral Services will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, August 6, 1998 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOME DODGE CHAPEL 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway).

PIERCE, John J., 79, of Tucson, died August 3, 1998. He is survived by loving wife of 61 years, Pearl; loving children Beverly Cauffman of Tucson, Hope Neilson of Puyallup, WA., and John Pierce of Redmond, WA. John was a beloved grandfather of 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is survived by two sisters, Cecil Johnson of Duluth, MN. and Betty Harkey of Jacksonville, FL. John was a veteran of WWII, serving in the US Navy. John was loved by his family and friends and will be dearly missed. Memorial service will be held at Streams of the Desert Lutheran Church on August 7, 1998 at 11:00 a.m., located at 5360 E. Pima Road, Tucson, AZ 85712. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Streams of the Desert Lutheran Church Memorial Rose Garden.

SLATER, Ben Glendon, 90, died August 2, 1998. Father of Gwenn Yaple. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

Nicholas Gary Dolan, 13 years old, died August 4, 1998 in a traffic accident near his home. He is the beloved son of Larry and Melissa Dolan; beloved brother of Jessica and Christopher Dolan; grandson of Pat and Colleen Dolan and Ruth Gardner; nephew of Edward and Janet Dolan, Lee Michael and Tina Gardner, Gary Gardner and Carrie Tucker, Eric and Lynne Gardner, Melinda Gardner and George Smith and cousin of Julia Smith, Dacquerie, Levi, Meshylla, Mikaela, Benjamin and Claire Gardner and Jolee and Thomas Dolan, all of Tucson. He is preceded in death by his grandfather, Leon Gardner. Every one of these many members of Nicholas's family will miss him more than they can say, because Nicholas was a loving, active, brilliant, and sociable boy. His many, many friends will also miss him. He would have been in 8th grade at Flowing Wells Middle School this fall. He was active in sports, including hockey, football, karate, and gymnastics, and he was a platinum honor roll student. A Memorial Service to honor Nicholas's life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 7 at St. Francis in the Foothills, located at Swan and River Roads. All friends and family are invited. FISHEL, Florence, died Tuesday, August 4, 1998 in St. Louis, Missouri. She had been a Tucson resident since 1971. Mrs. Fishel is the wife of the late Leonard Fishel; beloved mother of Arnold of Huntington Beach, CA and Norman of St. Louis, MO; loving mother-in-law of Grace Fishel and grandmother of Erica Fishel. Memorial Service Friday, August 7, 1998, 1:00 p.m. at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel, 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway)

GREEN, Charles R., passed away on August 3, 1998. married to Virginia for 25 years; also survived by brother, Ronald; sister, Marilyn; five children, Gene, Debra, Daniel, Darrell, and Victoria; 11 grandchildren, two nieces. Member of Loyal Order of Moose, Elks, VFW, Army Veteran. Retired from City of Tucson after 22 years. Memorial Service to be held at Victory Assembly of God, 2561 W. Ruthrauff, Saturday, August 8 at 10:00 a.m.

NAOMI EVELYN HOXIE, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Aug. 3, 1998. Born June 29, 1913, she was raised in Bisbee, AZ. In 1945 she moved to Tucson where she lived for the last 53 years. Naomi and her husband, Mitch, started AERO Rental, Inc. in 1947. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Valerie Jill, and husband, Mitch. She is survived by her daughters, Pam Bowles and Sandy (Vern) Palmer, both of Tucson; sons, Tom Hoxie III and Greg (Peggy Bower) Hoxie, both of Tucson; ten grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, sisters, Velma McAfee of San Carlos, Ca, and Carol (Glenn) O'Leary of Bisbee, and brother Norman (Kathleen) Adams of Tucson. A memorial service will be held at Christ Community Church, 7801 E. Kenyon Dr. on Sat. Aug. 8, 1998, at 11am. In lieu of flowers, the family suggest donations be made to Casa de los Ninos, American Lung Association, or American Diabetes Association.

Lucy Godinez Jones, on August 3, 1998 our beloved wife, mother, grandmother and sister began her eternal life with the Lord. Born November 18, 1932 in Patagonia, AZ, she is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, J.D.; loving mother of sons, John (Alicia) of Denver, CO, Tim (Diana) of Chandler, AZ and Mark (Candy) of Chandler, AZ; stepmother ofJerry Jones and Bonnie (Alec) Blumenthal of California. Adored grandmother of Ronald Johnson, Kristie Luce, Jacalyn Burcher, Natalie, Jeremy, Sheena, Leanna and Jeffrey Jones; great-grandmother of Karalyssa Burcher. Survived by five brothers, Mike, Willie, Carlos, Benjamin (Josie), Rudy and sister, Maria Elena 'Bebe' (Dave) Holtz, and numerous relatives. Preceded in death by brother, Frank; sister, Carmen Hall and parents, Luz and Anastacio Godinez. Lucy spent 17 years in La Puente, CA as an active member of the community, Youth Football, Toastmasters Intl., Little League and Boy Scouts of America. In Tucson she was an active parishioner at Sacred Heart Church and at Holy Family Church. As a member of the church Mariachi group she participated in playing at churches, nursing homes and at various fund raisers. She was involved in community service through Holy Family Church. Visitation at Holy Family Catholic Church will be held Friday, August 7th, 6:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with a Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Saturday, August 8th, 10:30 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Interment at Holy Hope Cemetery.A celebration of her life will be held immediately following at the home of J.D. Arrangements by CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

MORGAN, Wash was born February 17, 1927 in Emmet, Arkansas and passed away Tuesday, August 4, 1998 in Tucson, Arizona. Mr. Morgan is survived by his wife, Florene of 49 years; sons, Carl, Roy, Dean, Troylee, Tracy, Berry, William and Morgan; daughters, Veta, Khissy Beyniouah Rena, Gaile McNair, Paulette DePasse, Catherine Perkins, Diane Morgan, Dreamlan Pheifer and Donna Morgan 'Kincade'; two brothers, two sisters, one uncle, 36 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, one sister-in-law and many nieces and nephews and other relatives and a host of friends whom he cherished and loved are also left behind. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 1998 at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5401 S. Park Avenue with burial to follow in South Lawn Cemetery. REMENCUS, Sr., Woodford George 'Woody' 57, died suddenly August 2, 1998 in Atlanta, GA while on a trip with his wife. He was born September 22nd, 1940 in Chicago, IL. Woody was the beloved husband for 23 years of Carollyn. He was predeceased by his infant son, Thomas and brother, Ronald. He is survived by his wife, Carollyn; sons, Woody, Jr. and William; daughter, Wendy (Rob) Halstead; his very special and loved grandchildren, Sharron Kay and Chase Austin; parents, Katheleen and Stanley Remencus all of Tucson; brothers, Brooks (Karen) Remencus, Arnold, MD, Keith Roessler and sisters, Edith (Wayne) Aardsma and Cindy (Paul) Vice all of Oak Forest, IL. He was a long time resident of Tucson. Woody had a long illness and retired from work in 1992. Before he retired he was a computer technician, and after retirement computers were his love after family. He always made himself available to any of his 'computer buddies' that needed his help. Woody was very proud of being a veteran. He was a devoted family man, and will be missed by each and everyone that knew him. He 'had a special way of doing things, ' and his family loved him for that, and will miss him so very much. It's so hard to put into words how wonderful, caring, generous, and just plain good this man was. He was very sentimental and thoughtful. No words can express these feelings adequately. If you knew him you know what a special guy he was. If you didn't know Woody, you missed knowing a truly great man. Life will never be the same without him for anyone who knew him. James D. 'JD' Roberts, born August 4, 1910, passed away August 2, 1998. Survived by his beloved wife of 68 years, Marie; son, Jim; daughters, Jeri Mills and Jaki Jameson; loving grandfather to Carmen, Kim, Kara, Denise and Kristen; loving great-grandfather to Jessica, Dylan, Robin, Austin, Ava and Elan. Member of Aaron Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Sabbar Shrine Temple and Saguaro #48 Easter Star. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend to many. SCHULZ, Jerry M., a loving son, husband, father and 'Papa', died August 5, 1998. Jerry was born April 2, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa, where he grew up. He attended the University of Iowa and served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a salesman with Crown Zellerbach for 22 years and a realtor with Roy Long for eight years. Jerry was an avid golfer. Mr. Shultz is preceded in death by his father, Walter and sister, Marilyn. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Jeanne Schulz; mother, Virginia Schulz; sister, Susan Norris; three sons, Stephen, John and Thomas; seven grandchildren, Bryan Stephanie, Brandon, Jeffrey, Kayla, Timothy and Michael Schulz. Memorial Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Friday, August 7, 1998 at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb Rd.
