CHARLES W. DUNCAN, 71, of Tucson, passed away Sunday August 23, 1998, after losing his battle with ALS.
Charlie was an avid volunteer at Armory Park Senior Center, where he was the best dancer in Tucson. All his friends knew if something needed doing they could call on Charlie.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jenny; son, Harold of Detroit; daughter, Donna of Mishawaka, IN; son-in-law, Bob; also a stepson, Tom; two step-daughters, Cindy and Lisa, all of Evansville, IN; brothers, Elbert of Madisonville, KY, and Arelis; and sister, Beatrice, both of Evansville; 12 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren; there were many nieces and nephews who loved him. Charlie had more friends than can be listed.
Charlie was a member of the Armory Park Sr. Center, Eagles, Moose, VFW and the American Legion.
There will be a memorial service on September 11th at 10:00 a.m. It will be at Bring's Memorial Chapel, 236 Scott St.
Also there will be a memorial service at Osceola United Methodist Church later in September in Osceola, IN.
Charlie's friends may make contributions to ALS Foundation, c/o Carolyn Janz, 942 W. Grant Rd, Tucson, 85705.

GILLESPIE, Ella May, born June 26, 1904, passed August 25, 1998. Preceded by her beloved husband, Sam and daughter, Daisy Conn, she is survived by daughter, Emmalee Cregar; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. The devoted hub of her family, Ella May will be most remembered for: friendship; gracious hospitality; her love of beauty, travel and bridge games; lovely watercolors; and especially for her strong, loyal, plucky spirit. Graveside services will be held at Evergreen Cemetery, Miracle Mile and Oracle.

GRAFTON, Florence 82, of Tucson, died August 24, 1998. Life memories will be shared at the Graveside, 11:00 a.m. Sunday, August 30 at East Lawn Cemetery. Services conducted by VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd., 327-6341.

HOFFMAN, Philip Darrel, 82, of Vail, AZ went to be with our Lord on August 18, 1998. He was a wonderful person. An unselfish man with a big heart, always a kind word and a beautiful voice. He proudly served his country in World War II as a member of the U.S. Army Remount and in Special Services Entertainment Division. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Union for 46 years, as well as a rancher who loved the outdoors and wide open spaces. He will be greatly missed by his wife and partner of 52 years, Madonna and his children, Paul (Sharon) of Michigan, James (Carlene), John (Vickie), Pete (Joyce), Philip, Martha, Phyllis (Gary) Wood, Madonna (Brad) Hupp, Linda (Duane) Scott, Mary (Lonnie) Dull, Esther (Ron) Gamble of Arizona; his 21 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; his sisters, Betty Andrea, Lucille King and Dottie Yeager; brothers, Joe (Josephine) and Albert of PA. He was preceded in death by sons, Steve and Joe; parents, Minnie and Charles; sisters, Lillian and Mertle; brothers, Ernie and Allen. Memorial Service will be held at Casas Adobes Baptist Church, 2131 W. Ina, August 29, 1998 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Alzheimer's Assoc, American Cancer Society or St. Mary's Carondelet Hospice.

JACKSON, Russell Francis, 90, died August 24, 1998. Father of Russell (Susan K.) Jackson Jr. of Santa Maria, CA and Suzanne (Dr. Robert) Snow of Chandler, AZ; grandfather of Lloyd Patrick O'Dell of Phoenix, Karen Kartchner of Tucson, Kathleen O'Dell of Tucson and Kimberly Algya of Dallas; brother of Frederick L.Jackson of Durham, CT; great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive. KENNEDY, Judith Jean, 54, of Tucson, passed away August 12, 1998. Arrangements by family owned ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, Dodge Chapel.

LONG, Susan D., 59 years old, of Tucson, AZ, formerly from Jamestown, Ohio, after spending a lovely day with her grandchildren, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital on August 22, 1998. Born December 18, 1938 in Jamestown, Ohio to David and Gladys (Call) Scott, was married to Ronald Lee Long on May 18, 1957. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Lee Long; parents, David K. Scott and Gladys M. (Call) Scott; brothers, James G. Scott and George Rogers. Survived by children, Crystal, Ronda, Angie and Ronnie; grandchildren, Jerry, Karrie, Justin, Ashleigh, Ryan and Scottie; brother, Terry Lee Scott (Col. Retired U.S. Army). Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 28, 1998 at EAST LAWN PALMS CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Road. Friends may visit one hour prior to service. Interment to follow at East Lawn Palms Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart Association or Kidney Foundation.

LUPORI, James, 90, Chicago born businessman, Marana cotton farmer and Tucson resident since 1945, passed away August 24, 1998. Preceded in death by Norma, his wife of 63 years. He is survived by their two children, Jeri (Nick) Coulas of Claremont, CA and Jim (Kathy) Lupori of Tucson; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Private services. SAUNDERS, Florence B., 84, passed away August 23, 1998. Survived by husband, C.A. Saunders; son, Frank; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren and brother, Tim Foley of Susanville, CA. CLARK, Peggy B. 93 years young, entered the Gates of Heaven into GOD'S arms on August 15, 1998 at the Cascades Assisted Living facilities. Her wish to join her beloved husband, Merrell who passed away in 1981, after 56 years together was fulfilled and she is now happy and at peace. She is survived by a niece, Mrs. C.L. (Flo) Davis of Texas and nephew, Bill Manny of Phoenix; her 'special family, ' Esther and John, Gil, Shari, Brooke, Shannon, Gabe and Rick Feldman. Also very special friends, Andrea Hopper, Denis Cournoyer and Polly Thompson. Peggy was a 'people' person, full of life, love and laughter. She cared about everyone and they returned their love, as well as care and comfort right to the very end…Darlene and her Assisted Living Staff at the Cascades and the Carondelet Hospice Staff. Peggy also leaves many other close friends from Tucson, El Paso and Fredericksburg, TX. Peggy often said she was 'blessed' with the love of so many, and the life she had with Merrell, and on the ranch in Las Cruces, NM as a child. Peggy was the niece of the infamous Judge Roy Bean of TX, her father was Sam Bean, his brother. A service of Love and Memories celebrating the life of Peggy B. Clark will be held Friday, August 28 at the Cascades, 201 N. Jessica, Tucson at 1:30 p.m., 3rd floor. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Carondelet Hospice, 1802 W. HANSEN, George Edward 'Bud', 79, of Tucson, formerly of Billings, Montana, passed away at Pinetop of a sudden heart attack on Saturday evening on August 22, 1998. After serving in the Army during WW II, he went to Cooke City, MT and became a outfitter and guide and as the owner of the Double Arrow Dude Ranch. In 1952 he moved to Billings, MT and went into the Real Estate Business. By 1959 he had formed the Bud Hansen Agency. He is the original Past President of the Montana Realtor Assoc. and while in disposition was active in setting up the State Realtor Exam. He is a life member of the Billings Board of Realtors. He served as Representative of the Real Estate Assoc. and a State Representative of the International Traders Club which is a subsidiary of the National Associates of Real Estate Boards. He worked with the first GRI (Graduate Real Estate Institute) held in Bozeman, MT. Survivors include his wife, Donna of Tucson; children, Dona Frey of Absarokee, Bradley Hansen of Silver Springs, MD, Valerie Hansen of Nashville, TN, Douglas Hansen, Lynn Hansen and Laurie Catton, all of Billings and Greg Hansen, Julie McLeod of Tucson and Jan Korsten of Stanfield; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Bud will be missed by his family and many friends.

KARPISCAK, Martin Milan, Sr., 87, died August 25, 1998. Father of Dr. Martin (Lee) Karpiscak of Tucson. Longtime member of SOKOL USA. POOL, Randolph R., Born September17, 1905, passed away August 24, 1998.A Tucson resident since 1929. He wasthe former owner of the Green Lantern Restaurant, member of the Eagles, Elks and Moose Lodge. Beloved father of Norma J. Plank, Rae Jean Catanese, Mary Lou Flood (deceased) and Richard E. Pool (deceased). Beloved grandfather and great-grandfather. Roger W. 'Buck' Rodgers, 86, of Tucson, AZ, died Sunday, August 23, 1998. He is survived by wife, Grace J.Rodgers; five children, Darryl (Gladys) Rodgers, Karen (Norm) Herschelman, Jeff (Shari) Rodgers and Gary and Bruce Rodgers; stepson, Jim (Pam) Adams; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Buck was an active member of Casas Adobes Congregational Church, past member of SW Conference Board of UCC, active in Northwest Interfaith and supporter Habitat for Humanity. Memorial Services will be held at Casas Adobes Congregational Church at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, August 29, 1998 with Dr. David Smith and Minister Emeritus Rev. Ray Plumlee officiating. SULLIVAN, Mark Clay, passed away Monday, August 24, 1998 in the hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, after a courageously long battle with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He was raised in Tucson and is the son of John Earl and Marjorie Anne Ball Sullivan. He was born on November 4, 1957 in GA and moved to Tucson at 18 months of age. A 1975 graduate of Cholla High School, he worked in the movie/TV making industry in Tucson prior to moving to Elk City, OK. He is survived by wife, Belinda and three children, Frank Clay, 16; Jesi Elise, 14 and Jon Mark, 11. Funeral to be held in Elk City, Saturday, August 29th at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, his parents request memorial may be made to the 'Mark Sullivan Cancer Fund', Legacy Bank, P.O. Box 1199, Elk City, OK 73648.

THELEMAN, Amy J., 101, died August 17, 1998 at La Canada Care Center. Miss Theleman was born January 28, 1897 in Davenport, IA, daughter of Edward and Caroline Johnson Theleman. Services were held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 27 at VALLEY FUNERAL HOME, 2545 N. Tucson Blvd. Pastor Martin Jensen officiating with interment at Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Palo Verde Christian School, 2151 N. Palo Verde, Tucson, AZ 85716. She had worked many years in the credit dept. of Peterson Harned Von Maur department stores in Davenport, before retiring to Tucson 1953. Amy was a former member of the Eastern Star and the Palo Verde Baptist Church. Survivors include a niece, nephew and many dear friends.

TURR, Dorothy H., 60, of Tucson, died August 25, 1998. Survived by husband, Daniel B. Turr; sons, Craig Maness of Tucson, Randy Maness of CO, Stephen Turr and Brian Maness both of NJ; daughter, Karen Turr of MA; brother, Michael Don of Tucson; sisters, Frances Balog of NJ and Michelle Pellegrini of Safford and eight grandchildren. WALLER, Marjorie 'Marge' Craven, (74). Died August 25, 1998, born in Indianapolis, Ind., raised in Dayton, Ohio. Graduate of Depauw, University, where she was known as 'Kitty'. A Tucson resident since 1946, Mrs. Waller was a pioneer in Tucson television in the 1950's as a writer, producer and on dash camera talent. A respected actress, she preformed in numerous theatrical productions, movies and television shows. Survived by husband, Arthur B. 'Art'; brother, Jay Craven of Florida and daughter, Armenal Prindle Gorman Oomens (Mitchell); son, Stuart Jay Waller and daughter-in-law, Susan Gorman and grandchildren, Adam and Laura. The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff and volunteers of TMC hospice for their tireless efforts. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date. BAYLY, Patricia McGowan, a longtime Tucsonan, died of cancer Thursday, August 27, 1998, at the home of her son, Charles Bayly. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 5 P.M. on Monday, August 31, at the University of Arizona Newman Center, 1615 E. 2nd St. The celebrant will be Rev. Thomas Millane. Bayly, a freelance journalist, was born January 20, 1924 in Benson, MN. She moved to Tucson in 1950. She was active in real estate for several years. Bayly was a member and a past resident of the Newman Club Sustaining Board. A champion golfer, Bayly was past president of the Tucson Country Club Niners and a long time member of the City Golf Association. A journalism graduate of the University of Minnesota, Bayly worked in New York City for Women's Wear Daily and Time magazine before returning to Minnesota, where she edited the family weekly newspaper the Swift County Monitor-News, until her move to Tucson in 1950. Bayly was a feature writer and photographer for the Tucson Citizen, before devoting her time to free lance and fiction writing, real estate and volunteer work. She was predeceased by her husband, Kenneth J. Bayly, who died in 1990. She is survived by two daughters, Mary (Dennis) Nebe of Tucson, and Nora (Brien) Slawik of Maplewood, MN and one son Charles of Tucson; three grandchildren, Christina Nebe and Sean and Victoria Slawik, and one sister, Mary Jo (Lyle) Stouffer, Tucson. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Westcenter, 2105 E. Allen Rd., Tucson, AZ 85719 or American Cancer Society, 1-800-227-2345.
