GORAB, Elliott E., 42, passed away September 16, 1998 in Tucson. Born October 4, 1955 in Passaic, N.J. Survived by wife, Kim Gorab; stepson, Joshua Munson; parents, Ernest and Eleanor Gorab; mother-in-law, Rhoda Munson and two sisters-in-law, Valerie Schrader, Lorie Munson. Memorial Service for Elliott will be Thursday, September 24, 1998 at 7:00 p.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL. KENNEDY, Wanda L., 52, CMSgt. U.A. Air Force, passed away September 18, 1998. She is survived by her parents, Edward and Alma Centofante of Rockport, Texas. Chief Kennedy has a distinguished career in the Air Force that spanned 27 years. She was scheduled for retirement in April of 1999. She will be cremated. Memorial Service 9:00 a.m. Friday, September 25 at Davis Monthan Air Force Base Chapel #1. There will be no calling hours. It is requested that in lieu of flowers, donations in Wanda's memory be made to Tucson's Veteran Hospital/Hospice or Tucson Medical Center Hospice. Arrangements by BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. KENT, Richard M. 'Dick' 93, passed away September 19, 1998. He was born in Bradford, Pennsylvania and at age 14 moved with his family to Binghamton, New York. He first arrived in Tucson in 1928. Mr. Kent owned and operated hotels in Tucson, Ajo and Yuma, Arizona. He was a life member of the B.P.O.E. and was an active member of the Tucson Chamber of Commerce where he served on the Rodeo Executive Committee and was a Chairman of the Film Industry Promotion Committee. Mr. Kent was also a member of the Tucson Downtown Merchants Association, was President of the Ajo Chamber of Commerce, and a member of the Ajo Rotary Club. He leaves his wife, Deola; daughters, Ruthann (Philip) Grace of Paradise Valley and Sandra (Ray) Lord of Tucson; sons, John R. (Susan) and Larry C. (Andrea) of Tucson; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandsons. Friends may call 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 25, 1998 at ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, 1050 North Dodge. Funeral Services will be conducted at B.P.O.E. Lodge 385, 2404 E. River Road at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 26, 1998. The family suggests donations to A.E.A. LANNON, John J., of Tucson, went to be with his Lord on and Savior on Sunday, September 20, 1998. He will be missed and loved forever by his children, Kenneth Christopher, Phoebe San Angelo and beloved grandson, Phillip San Angelo, Jr., all of Tucson. Family in Ohio also survives him. He served his country with bravery in World War II, receiving a Purple Heart Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, and a European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with two Battle Stars. He retired from the U.S. Civil Service at Davis-Monthan AFB. Graveside Services will be held at 11:00a.m. on Friday, September 25, 1998 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd. LAUGHLIN, Doris A., 90, passed away September 21, 1998 in Tucson. She was born April 3, 1908 in Providence, RI to Edith and Fred Cousins. She was a lifelong member and past Worthy Matron of the Seekonk, MA Chapter of the Order of Eastern Star, a professional Secretary, and since retiring to Tucson, a homemaker. She is survived by her husband, Thomas of Tucson; daughters, Judy (Dan) Sullivan of Clarksville, MD and Sue (Bill) Loe of Firth, ID; her sister, Winifred (Andrew) Ewart of Seekonk; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held Thursday, September 24 at 2:00 p.m. at Tucson Estates Chapel, 5900 W. Western Way. Donations may be made in memory of Doris to Carondelet Hospice, 1802 W. St. Mary's Rd., Tucson, AZ 85745.

RAMIREZ, Josie P., 88, of Tucson, passed away September 21, 1998. Preceded in death by husband, Avelino Ramirez; sons, Ruben P. Romero and Roy P. Romero; parents, Angelita Pina and Eugenio Pina, Sr. of Arivaca, Arizona; brothers, Eugenio, Jr. and Jesus Pina of Tucson; sisters, Angelita Leon and Gabriela (Nina) Rodriguez of Tucson. Survived by son, Robert P. Romero (Michelle) of Tucson; 11 grandchildren of Tucson and California. Also survived by many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, September 24, 1998 at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. Rosary will be recited at 9:00 a.m. Mass will be offered at 9:20 a.m. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. Arrangements by CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, INC.

SMITH, Christopher Q, 18, of Tucson. He was born February 14, 1980 in Beaumont, Texas. He passed away unexpectedly September 21, 1998 in Tucson, Arizona. He is survived by his mother, Stacia Lynn and her husband, Lt. Col. Stanley G. Harmon; father, Richard L. Smith; sisters, Shelby Lynn Harmon and Courtney Smith; brothers, Craig Smith and Stephen Smith; maternal grandparents, Alvie and Clara Whatley; paternal grandmother, Anne H. Smith; paternal grandfather, John W. Smith, Jr. and his wife, Royce Ann; aunts, Gaynelle and her husband, Kenneth Belaire and Lisa Smith; uncles, Cliff Smith and his wife, Teri, Jeffrey Smith and his wife, Lisa. Christopher and his family are past residents of Virginia. He graduated from Sahuaro High School Class of 1998. He recently enrolled and was a student at the Chaparral Career College and excelled at accounting. Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 23, 1998 at HUDGEL'S SWAN FUNERAL HOME. The Funeral Service will be held at 9:00 a.m. Thursday at Davis-Monthan Air Force Base Chapel One. We will meet at the funeral home at 0800 Thursday and go to the base in procession. Interment will follow at All Faiths Memorial Park.

James McIlroy Fritz, MD, FACS
Born to Dr. Lief Fritz and Janet McIlroy Fritz in Dubuque, Iowa on October 13, 1916. He died suddenly at age 82, Monday, September 21, 1998. Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Frudden Fritz on March 17, 1992. He is survived by four children, Jan (Mrs. Ralph Wilson – Az), Judy (Mrs. John Montgomery McClung – Md), James Robert Fritz – AZ and Heidi (Mrs.Brian Ashby – AZ). He is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jim grew up in Dubuque, graduated from Exeter Academy, earned a BA degree at Princeton, a BS degree at the University of Chicago in 1939. An MD degree was awarded by the University of Chicago in June, 1942. He continued at Chicago in internship and residencies in both general and thoracic surgery and earned his boards in both specialties by 1949. He then served as an instructor for two years in the University Clinics teaching program. He was active in the US Naval Reserve as a lieutenant until 1946. Jim moved to Tucson to join Drs. Cogswell and Czerny in 1952. Two years later he joined Dr. James O'Hare to form an active and outstanding relationship in a practice of thoracic surgery. Over the years, additional skills were added at St. Vincent Hospital in Los Angeles. Joined by Drs. Ross Magee, Eric Ramsey and later the prominent heart surgeon, Dr. Robert Anderson, innovative surgery, including the first open heart surgery in Southern Arizona, was performed. Jim was the first physician to use radioactive isotopes in the diagnosis of pulmonary disease. He was author or co-author of many articles in medical journals. Dr. Adib Sabbagh and Dr. Fritz took a large team to Iraq where they performed many cardiac operations. Jim retired in 1987 and could look back on an outstanding career, one that touched a great number of people. A loving father with a curious mind, a superb and caring physician, Jim will be missed. Arrangements are through Wolfrey Peace Chapel. Remembrances, being arranged, will be private.

GILLIES, Alan Terry, born November 9, 1926 in Montclair, New Jersey, died September 17, 1998 in Tucson, Arizona, where he had resided for the past 17 years. He was the Vice-President-Creative Writing Director for J. Walter Thompson Advertising Agency in NYC. He was the author of Side Door to Heaven (1958) as well as the author of numerous short stories. In 1975, he was awarded the CLIO Award in recognition of outstanding Public Services advertising for the American Red Cross. He is survived by daughters, Joyce Bullock, Harrisonburg, VA, Julia Kowal, Rockaway, NJ; son, Thomas Alanson Gillies, Tucson, AZ; sisters, Priscilla Worthington, Pemberton, NJ, Beverly Babcock, Westover, MD; brother, Charles P. Gillies, Wayne, NJ and 10 grandchildren. He will be sadly missed by family and friends, including Joan Kessler Gillies. Memorial Service to be held at Picture Rocks Retreat House at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 25, 1998. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Red Cross.

KUHNS, Emma B., 88, of Tucson, died September 15, 1998. Emma was an accomplished horse woman and a member of the El Conquistador Saddle Club. Mother of Albert J. Kuhns of San Antonio, TX; four grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Memorial Mass Friday, September 25, 1998 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church. LOPEZ, Connie, 63, of Tucson, passed away September 19, 1998. Survived by mother, Luisa Alvarez; daughters, Cynthia Granillo, Joann Mendoza, Christine Granillo and Nadine Granillo; sons, Teodoro Granillo, Francisco X. Granillo and Tito Vargas; 26 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by many brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews. She will also be missed by her friends and co-workers at University Medical Center. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 25, 1998 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave., with Rosary recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be offered on Saturday, September 26, 1998, 9:30 a.m. at St. John's Church, 602 W. Ajo Way. Interment to follow at Holy Hope Cemetery. George P. Moffat III, 57 years young, lost his valiant battle with Melanoma on Monday, September 21, 1998 in Tucson. Born on April 26, 1941 in New York City, George was raised in Scarsdale, NY. He attended Scarsdale High School where he was active in choir, lettered in soccer, rifle and track, and graduated in 1959. He then attended Perkiomen College Preparatory School in Pennsburg, PA, where he lettered in baseball, graduating in 1960. George married his devoted wife, Donna, in 1964, and received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Arizona in 1965. His activities at the U of A included Symphonic Choir, Choraliers and captain of the rifle team. He worked in the insurance business until he developed co-ownership and assumed presidency of Tucson Commercial Carpet in 1972, which is continuing its 26th year of successful business. George is remembered in the community for his past participation with barbershop quartet singing, Southern Arizona Light Opera Company (SALOC), Rotary and Sertoma; and his recent participation with Business Information Club (BIC) since 1972, Limited Edition, Red Letter Edition, and Board of Messiah Sing-Ins. He was an active member of Christ Church United Methodist where he sang with the church choir. George was an ardent U of A sports fan. He attended every home football and basketball game for many years, until his recent illness. He was also an active member of the U of A Alumni Association. His favorite pastimes included, but were not limited to singing, walking Sabino Canyon, traveling, and watching television game shows (and was even a five time winner on 'Concentration' in 1969!) His deep appreciation and love for Arizona sunsets, mountains and monsoons will never be forgotten, nor will his sarcastic sense of humor. His passion for music will follow him in heaven, as they must have been short a tenor there. George's last minutes and seconds of life were shared by his wife, and four of his closest friends who were loving enough to sing him into heaven–literally. Our 'Rug Man' will be sorely missed, but will carry us through our lives with music.Husband, father, brother, friend, and tenor…we will all one day reunite with you. He was predeceased by his parents, Palmer and Marion Moffat of Tucson. George is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Donna; sons, Dr. Robert (Heather) Moffat of San Diego and William Moffat of Tucson; daughter, Diane Sausman (Aaron) of Everett, WA; sister, Gail Hudson (Phil Olsen) of Honolulu; brother, John Moffat (Karen Lerner) and nephews, Daniel and Kenneth Moffat, all of Bellingham, WA. Special thanks to his doctor and staff for their extraordinary efforts and TMC Healthcare workers on unit 650 for their loving care and support. George would want donations to be made to any one of the following: University Cancer Research at the U of A, American Red Cross, The Blake Foundation, and the Board of Messiah SingIns. Memorial Service to be held on Monday, September 28th, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ Church United Methodist, 655 North Craycroft with Reverend James Stewart officiating. MORSE, James Edward, born July 14, 1933 in Hammond, Indiana, died suddenly on September 16, 1998. Beloved husband of Mary Pick-Morse. Survived by daughters, Cheryl (Donald) Davaul, Cindy (David) Perez and son, James E. Morse II (Ramie). Also survived by nine grandchildren. Served eight years in the US Navy, Korean War Veteran. James received his Associate Degree in the Science of Opthalmic Dispensing Technology in 1974 and was a fellow in the National Academy of Opticianry. Previous owner of Kachina Optical(s) of Tucson. James was a Mason for close to 30 years and past Worshipful Master of the John Wayne Lodge F & AM. Past member of the Sabbar Shrine of Tucson. He retired in 1997 after 12 years as a Correctional Officer with ASPC-Tucson. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. September 26 at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL, 5225 E. Speedway Blvd. Visitation will be held Friday the 25th of September from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at WOLFREY PEACE CHAPEL. Services to be performed by the Tucson Masonic Sojourner, Minister Charles Barfoot and the Veterans Affair. James was loved dearly and will be missed by many.

SCOTT, Robert William, 47, died September 23, 1998. Son of Elenore Scott; father of Jamie; uncle of Robert Jr., Kevin and Kelly Rickert; brother-in-law of Robert L. Rickert, Sr. Mr. Scott was a member of the Salpointe High School Faculty in Tucson, AZ. and later served as the assistant Principal at Nogales High School in Nogales, AZ. Mass will be offered 11:00 a.m.Saturday, September 26th at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 1800 N. Camino Pio Decimo. Burial at Our Lady of the Desert. Donations in Robert's memory may be made to TMC Hospice, 5301 E. Grant Rd., T/A 85712. Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday, September 25th at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway.

WHITE, Stanley Calvin age 85, of Tucson, passed away September 20, 1998. Stanley is survived by his loving wife, Rauberta; son, Ronald (Betty); daughter, Sharon (Robert) Lythgoe; six grandsons and eight great-grandchildren; sister, Audrey Jameson and several nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all his family and friends. Memorial Services, 10:00 a.m. Friday, September 25th in the Chapel at First Church United Methodist, 915 E. 4th Street. FEDERMAN, Warren F., born 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, died September 24, 1998. Preceded in death by brother, Edward. He moved to Minnesota in 1974 and has resided in Tucson since 1984. Survived by his wife of 41 years, Patricia. He has two sons, Warren, Charles; and one daughter, Debra, all of Tucson. Also survived by two grandchildren, Rhiannon of Owatonna, MN, and Justin of Tucson. He is also survived by four brothers, Robert, Richard, Ronald, James; and one sister, Marilyn; many nieces and nephews. A World War II veteran, he was a life member of VFW, DAV, and NAAV, past member of So. Az. DAV Honor Guard & Ritual Team. A longtime DAV volunteer who truly knew the meaning of heart. He will be missed by all who knew him. Visitation will be on September 27, 1998 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at SOUTH LAWN MORTUARY & CEMETERY. Service and burial to follow.

Born December 11, 1964, passed away September 18, 1998. Robert worked for Tucson Cycle and Ski. Predeceased by brother, Larry Miller. Survived by wife, Lissa; daughters, Katie; mother, Juanita Ryan; stepfather, Gordon Gunwall; father, John Miller (Jean); sister, Stephanie Cormaci of West Plaines, MO; brothers, Richard Miller (Terry French), John Ryan (Elinore) Craig; grandmother, Ida Miller; nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends. Memorial Service will be held where he loved to ride motorcycles on Sunday, September 27th at noon For directions please call a family member. Robert is missed and loved by all.

RIGSBY, Michael C., 47, of Tubac, AZ. Mike went Home to be with the Lord Jesus on September 23, 1998. He is survived by his wife, Mary; daughters, Shannon and her husband, Jason Vanderpool; Heather and her husband, Eric Zerkle; his two precious grandsons, Tanner Austin Vanderpool and Casey Garrett Zerkle; mother, Edna Rigsby; sisters, Sharon, Sheila Austin and Kathy Rigsby; brother, Roger Rigsby; also a host of extended family and friends whom Mike dearly loved. He was preceded in death by father, Clifford Rigsby. Among Mike's greatest joys in life was serving the Lord and leading people to Jesus Christ. Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 26, 1998 at the Tubac Baptist Church, 2242 W. Frontage Rd., Tubac, AZ, with Pastor Gary Marquez officiating. Interment will be held with further Funeral and Committal Services in Ashland, Kentucky. Interment at Rose Hill Cemetery, Ashland, KY.
