VERDUGO, Maria, 50, of Tucson, died January 24, 1999. She was a lifelong resident of Arizona. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in her name may be made to the Blake Foundation of Guardianships of Arizona. Arrangements by HEATHER MORTUARY, 1040 N. Columbus Blvd., an Aftercare Provider.

WOOD, Eileen C. On Monday, November 30, 1998, age 68, Eileen Wood began her walk with our Lord. Wife of Kenneth Wood; mother of Walter Wood and Elizabeth Korte; grandmother of Caitlin and Nicholas Korte; sister of Anne Bowler and Mary Ketterle (Ted); sister-in-law of Penny Kaercher (Ray) and Dolly Bowler; she was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Thomas Bowler, Jr. Services were held at St. Athanasius Church in Pgh, PA. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, January 30 (10:30 a.m.) at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, Tucson.

JAMES BENEDICT BRADY, a Tucson resident for 40 years, died January 25, 1999. He was born January 18, 1922 in County Down, Northern Ireland, and came to the United States at the age of five.
He is survived by his wife, Dottie; by sister, Mary of Long Island, New York; by children, Patricia Mary (Frank) of Tucson, Dr. Michael James of Tucson, Lt. Col.Terrance Clifford USMC (Maggie) of Monterrey, California, Shivawn Marie of Benson, Arizona, Jacquelyn Monica (David) of Tucson and Officer James Atkinson (Lily) of Houston; and by grandchildren, Rita-Marie, Kellen, Bailey and Travis.
Jim served as a C-47 crew chief with the U.S. Army Air Corps in WWII, and among his decorations are battle stars for North Africa, Anzio, Normandy, the Bulge and the Invasion of the Rhineland. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1963.
He attended the London School of Economics, and received a Bachelor of Science degree from Northern Arizona University and a Master of Education from the University of Arizona. Following his retirement from the military, he became involved in international construction management, and worked in Iran, the Virgin Islands and on the Diego Garcia project.
He was a member of the Elks and the Knights of Columbus, and was active in his church; he once had a personal audience with Pope Pius XII.
He will be missed by his family, friends, church and country. Funeral Service 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 29 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL, 6910 E. Broadway. Friends may call from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m.Friday, January 29 at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Interment will be in Ft. Huachuca, Arizona. There will be a Memorial Service at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 5150 N. Valley View Rd. at a later date.

BRIGHT, Richard Edward, 72, born July 24, 1926, beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, was called by our Lord on January 26, 1999. He is survived by loving wife, Doris; daughters, Susan (Joseph) Martell, Debby (Gillam) Scogin; brother, Arthur (Eileen) Bright; sister-in-law, Alice A. Bright; aunt, Janette Bahr; grandchildren, Doug and Laurie Speckmann, Harmony Bright, Gillam, Richard and Jeffrey Scogin, Lisa and Paul Martell; great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Kevin Speckmann, and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Richard was a machinist for Tucson Electric Power, retiring after 25 years of service. Where there is love life is too short, we will miss him dearly. Whenever we see a mountain pine we ill remember him in our heads and in our hearts. Our family is deeply grateful for the services and understanding given to us by the Carondelet Home Hospice staff during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, our family suggests donations be made to Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 4520 W. Ajo, Tucson, Arizona 85746. Memorial services will be held at Mount Zion Lutheran Church, 4520 W. Ajo, on Friday, January 29, at 11:00 a.m.

BROCK, Raymond H., of Tucson, died January 25, 1999. Survivors include son, Michael Brock of Gilbert, Arizona; daughter, Barbara Romanski of Colorado; stepsons, Mark Stevens of Virginia and Tim Stevens of California and eight grandchildren. He was honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy C.B's as a Aviation Machinist Mate and also retired as a Aerospace Tool & Die Maker. Private family burial to be held at Holy Hope Cemetery. CAMPBELL, Elizabeth 'Sister', 76, passed on January 24, 1999. Quietly, she was a pillar of strength for her family and community and simply a joy to be with – just ask anyone who was blessed with the opportunity to be in her presence. Visitation will be held at Evergreen Mortuary & Cemetery, N. Oracle Rd & W. Miracle Mile, 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 28, 1999. Services will be held at Mt. Olive, 403 E. Lee St., (at corner of 4th Ave.) Friday, January 29 at 1:00 p.m. Please join a family gathering in Rillito following the services.

DUKE, Roy Dean, 38, of Tucson, passed away January 25, 1999 with family and friends at his side. We will miss him greatly because we loved him so deeply. Marcia Powell Elberson, 70, died January 24, 1999. Survived by her daughters, Clara, Annette (Les), JoAnna (Leif) and Jasemine (Ellis); grandchildren, Steve, Mishelle, Chrissy, Michelle, Mindy, Mary Angela, Amicia, John and four great grandchildren. Memorial Service 9:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 1999 at Bring's Memorial Chapel, 236 S. Scott with Rev. Howard Higgins officiating. Our family chain is broken and nothing seems the same. But, as God calls us one by one…the chain will link again. We love you.

ENOS, Edison Paul, Jr. 'Eddie' born August 20, 1966, died January 20, 1999. Predeceased by father, Edison Paul Enos, Sr. and mother, Bernice Chavez Enos. Survived by his children, Johnny, Adrian and Rowena, Enos. Also by the mother of his children, Connie Ochoa; sister, Edwardine (Anthony) Leyvas; nephews, Anthony, Jr., Clyde Leyvas; niece, Nicolemarie Leyvas; brother, James Enos; stepfather, Ambrose Cipriano and many uncles, aunts, cousins and friends. Visitation on Friday, January 29, 1999 at St. Nicholas Center, 349 W. 31st St., Tucson, AZ at 7:00 p.m. Funeral to be at San Miguel Village on Saturday, January 20, 1999 at 10:00 a.m.

FRANCO, Felicita 'Alice' O., 74, of Tucson, went home to be with the Lord January 24, 1999. Preceded in death by sister, Olga Moreno and brothers, Joe and Luis Olguin. Survived by daughter, Barbara (James) Reyes; sons, Alfred (Mary Helen) Chavez, Juan (Lupita) Hernandez and Andrew (Konokan) Franco; brothers, Tony Mata, Arturo, Manny and Henry Hernandez. Also survived by 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 28, 1999 from 4:00 to 10:00 p.m. at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY, (South Chapel), 240 S. Stone Ave.with a Vesper Service at 7:00 p.m. A Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 29, 1999, 10:00 a.m. at First Southern Baptist Church, 445 E. GAGNON, Gloria Anne, 64, died January 27, 1999. Wife of Robert Gagnon; mother of Denise (Jack) Perdue, Lisa Gagnon (Jessica Silvers), Paul Gagnon, and Marc (Ramona) Gagnon; grandmother of Felicia, Andrea, Logan and Emma; sister of Joseph Anthony Krauss. Gloria was an active member of Our Mother of Sorrows Parrish for 25 years.Rosary will be recited at 8:00 p.m. Sunday, January 31st at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church. Mass will be offered 11:00 a.m. Monday, February 1st at Our Mother of Sorrows Catholic Church, 1800 S. Kolb. Interment in Our Lady of the Desert Cemetery. Charlotte W. Munger, 82, born Sioux City, Iowa, December 1, 1916, passed away in Tucson, Arizona on January 25, 1999. She graduated from Stanford University in 1938 and was a special lady, known for her kindness to everyone, her personal dignity, and her devotion to her family. She loved, and was loved by her dear husband, Robert Prentis Munger of Tucson, who survives her, along with three loving sons, Robert G. Munger of New Orleans, Louisiana and his two children, Lee Anne McKearon and Robert T. Munger and their children, Clark W. Munger of Tucson and his two children, Matthew Munger and Michelle Munger; and John F. Munger of Tucson, and his three children, Meredith Leyva, Hilary Munger and John Munger II; as well as by her brother, Clark Watkin of Scottsdale, Arizona. She took special joy in her many friends and fellow member of P.E.O., the Junior League and the Sustainers of Junior League, as well as her dear friends of her Sioux City bridge club and her Tucson bridge club, all of whom she fondly cherished. A memorial service will be held at EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY CHAPEL, 5801 E. Grant Rd., an Aftercare Provider at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 1999. The family requests that memorial gifts be made in the form of gifts to the American Red Cross.

O'HEIR, Ruth Elizabeth, 57, died January 27, 1999. Wife of Robert O'Heir; mother of Robert (Erica) O'Heir, Jr., and Tim (Lourdes) O'Hair; grandmother of Erica, Elizabeth and Michelle; sister of Louise (Carmen) Napoli, Jean (Paul) Duncan and Michael (Marian) Olsen. Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Friday, January 29th at BRING'S BROADWAY CHAPEL. Mass will be offered 10:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30th at St. Francis De Sales Catholic Church, 1875 S. ROSS, Peter William Sr. Born February 22, 1909, died January 19, 1999 in Napa, CA. Predeceased by wife Josephine; grandchildren, James McCormick, Jr, Ken McCormick. Survived by children, Pete Ross, Jr (Connie) of Napa, CA, Josie Long, Mary Lou Ross, and David Ross, all of Tucson. Brother, J. Robert Ross and sister Elsie Ross. Also survived by 21 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Memorial mass will be said at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Hope Mausoleum, 3555 N. Oracle Rd, on Friday, January 29, 1999 with burial to follow.

Elizabeth C. Schoen, 77, of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Allentown, NJ, died Sunday, January 24, 1999 after a long illness.
Born in Trenton, NJ on February 16, 1921, and an area resident for over 60 years, Mrs. Schoen was an active member, Deacon and treasurer of the Allentown Presbyterian Church. She was currently an active member of the Northminster Presbyterian Church in Tucson. She was a past Worthy Matron of the O.E.S. Sphinx Chapter in New Egypt, NJ, and previously owned and operated The Quilters Barn in Allentown, NJ.

SIMONDS, Hazel O., 101, of Tucson, died January 27, 1999. Survived by daughter, Hazel L. Dickey of Tucson; son, Charles L. (Philamena) Simonds of Anchorage, AK; six grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Graveside Service 3:00 p.m. Friday, January 29 at East Lawn Palms Cemetery, 5801 E. Grant Rd., The family would like to thank the owners and staff at Casa de Compana for their loving care. Arrangements by EAST LAWN PALMS MORTUARY, an Aftercare Provider.

SIMRIN, Henry J., 96, died January 27, 1999. Survived by his wife, Viola D. Simrin; brother-in-law, Al Salbert; nieces and nephews. Henry was a graduate of Fordham University, served with the 7th Cavalry of the U.S. Army. Was a pharmacist and with his wife owned and operated the Alvernon Drug, Swan Drug and Craycroft Drug before retirement. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 29, 1999 at Temple Emanu-El, 225 N. Country Club.Private Entombement will be at East Lawn Palms Cemetery.
Daughter of the late Royal and Grace Cowdrick, she is survived by three sons, a daughter and two daughters-in-law. Joseph H. Schoen of Campbell Hall, NY., Robert and Mary Ellen Schoen of Chesterfield, NJ., William H. and Pam Schoen of Tucson, Nancy G. Schoen-Lease of Tucson; three grandchildren, Brian, Kelly and Kristin Schoen of Chesterfield, NJ.
A memorial service will be held at Southwest Bible Baptist Church at 2861 W. Pelston and Cardinal, 1.2 miles South of Valencia on Saturday, February 6th, 1999 at 1:00 p.m.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Lupus Foundation – Southern AZ Chapter, 2583 N. First Ave., Tucson, AZ 85719 or to the American Diabetes Association.

BARRETT, Bessie Odell, left this life on January 27, 1999. Bessie was born in Ennis, KY on April 14, 1918 to John W. and Bessie B. Turner. She married Sherman J. Barrett in 1935. In 1960 they moved to Tucson from Kentucky. Bessie is preceded in death by Sherman, her husband of almost 62 years; son Gerald Barrett and granddaughter, Karen Sue Darnell both of Tucson. She is survived by her children, Barbara (James) Darnell of Tucson and John Barrett of KY; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Barrett of Tucson; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the ADAIR FUNERAL HOMES, (Dodge Chapel), 1050 N. Dodge Blvd. (at Speedway) on Sunday, January 31 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. Graveside Services and interment will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 1 in Evergreen Cemetery, Rev. Eugene Sheldon will officiate.

HAWKINS, Hellen Aillen, 87, died January 27, 1999. Wife of Paul Hawkins; mother of Natalie Miller-Orozco and Desmond Miller-Billotte; five grandsons and eight great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by son, Ronald Frank Miller and first husband, Frank H. Miller. Hellen was a long time Tucson resident member of Arizona Chapter #2 Order of Eastern Star and Mount Lemmon Womens Club. Funeral Service 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 30 at Bring's Broadway Chapel, 6910 E. Broadway with Arizona Chapter #2 Order of Eastern Star officiating. Interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery. HORAN, Charles G., Sr., 70, of Tucson, died January 25, 1999. Predeceased by wife, Juanita, October 25, 1997. Joined Navy WW II and fought in Korea. Survived by mother, Caroline Horan; sister, Mary Kay Cooper; children, Charles, Jr., Caroline Gutierrez, John, Chuck and Ramona McFarland (O'Donnell) and 16 grandchildren. Family and friend Vigil Friday, January 30, 1999 from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.at family members home.
